And they're ready to handle just about any source you can imagine, thanks to built-in Bluetooth, an onboard phono preamp for your turntable, and versatile digital inputs.

Klipsch R-15PM

The R-15PM speakers have a built-in phono preamp for adding a turntable of your choice (not included).

Ready for your turntable, TV, and more

Want to breathe some new life into your vinyl record collection? Just connect your turntable and flip the input selector switch to "phono," and you have a compact stereo system that'll fit easily in smaller spaces — no receiver or separate amplifier required.

The speakers also feature an optical digital audio input, so you can run digital sound from your TV directly to the R-15PM speakers — ideal setup for watching videos in a bedroom or guest room. A mono subwoofer output lets you add a powered sub to make movie soundtracks really come to life.

Music from your computer and portable devices

The R-15PMs also have a USB Type B input for connecting your PC or Mac®. Forget using your computer's headphone jack — this direct digital connection is the way to get much cleaner sound from your digital music files and streaming sources. But speaking of headphone jacks, the speakers also have a stereo minijack for those portable devices that don't have Bluetooth.

Packed with proven Klipsch speaker technology

Scan the reviews of Klipsch speakers on our website, and you'll see that our customers genuinely love the performance they deliver. Klipsch didn't skimp on these powered monitors, either. Each one features a resonance-deadening MDF cabinet to minimize sound degradation. Inside, a 1" aluminum diaphragm compression driver is mated with Klipsch's famous Tractrix® horn to deliver clean, clear highs. And the 5-1/4" spun copper woofer gives you solid, natural midrange and bass, with a rear-firing port to further reinforce the low frequencies.

Features

Two-Way Driver Design: The Klipsch R-15PM powered bookshelf speakers deliver room-filling sound from a two-way driver design. Each speaker includes a 1" aluminum diaphragm compression driver mated to 90° x 90° square Tractrix Horn and 5.25" copper spun magnetically shielded IMG woofer. The tweeter and woofer are crossed over at 1800Hz.

  • Tractrix Horn-Loaded Tweeter: Each speaker has a Tractrix horn-loaded 1" aluminum dome tweeter for a natural, lifelike sound. The square Tractrix horn delivers a 90° x 90° dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage.
  • Copper Spun IMG Woofer: Each loudspeaker uses a copper spun IMG (Injection Molded Graphite) 5.25" woofer for accurate midrange and midbass performance.

Built-in Amplification: The Klipsch R-15PM's "Right Speaker" employs a built-in, ultra-low noise 50 watt x 2 channel amplifier to power both speakers in the system. The built-in amplifier has been custom designed to maximize driver performance and eliminate the need for external amplification. The "Right Speaker" and "Left Speaker" are fitted with binding-post speaker terminals on the back of the cabinet and come with 16' of speaker wire (18AWG) to connect the speakers together.

Bass Reflex MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch R-15PM employs a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. The ported enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a brushed black polymer veneer. The rigid MDF cabinet utilizes internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound. No grilles come with these speakers.

Bluetooth Music Streaming: The Klipsch R-15PM active loudspeakers feature built-in Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP technology which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Windows PC/Phone, or Mac computer/laptop. You'll be able to stream stored music or music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device and control basic playback from the included remote control. Advanced playback control and song/artist information will still be done from your Bluetooth device. Once paired, the R-15PM will automatically re-connect with your device when in wireless range (up to 33').

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Klipsch R-15PM.

USB-B Input: The "Right Speaker" of the Klipsch R-15PM features a rear-panel USB (type-B) input for connecting your Windows PC or Mac computer/laptop. Through the R-15PM's USB connection, you are able to play music files (up to 24-bit/96kHz) stored on your Windows PC or Mac computer/laptop through the powered speaker system.

Optical Digital Input: The Klipsch R-15PM is fitted with an optical (toslink) digital input on the back of the "Right Speaker" for connection to a digital audio device like your TV, Blu-ray, or CD player. The speaker's optical digital input will accept 2ch stereo PCM only (up to 24-bit/96kHz).

Dual Analog Inputs w/ Phono Switch: The Klipsch R-15PM is equipped with two analog audio inputs on back of the "Right Speaker"; there is one stereo minijack (3.5mm) input for connecting a portable audio device with a headphone jack and one stereo RCA input for connecting an analog audio component. The stereo RCA input has a Phono switch which allows you to connect a turntable, so you can enjoy your vinyl record collection.

Sub Out: The Klipsch R-15PM features a mono-sub RCA output on the back of the "Right Speaker" that allows you to connect a powered subwoofer for added bass response. Your powered sub should have its own low-pass crossover.

IR Remote: The Klipsch R-15PM includes an IR wireless remote control for wireless operation of the powered speaker, plus control of your Bluetooth paired devices. The remote offers easy access to system features such as dedicated source selection, volume up/down, play/pause, and previous/next track. Make sure to point the IR remote at the IR sensor on the "Right Speaker".

AC Power: The Klipsch R-15PM's "Right Speaker" which is equipped with the built-in amplifier must be plugged into an AC power outlet using the included 68" detachable AC power cord.

Q
What is the length of the speaker wire that connects both units?
david  Feb 25, 2023
1 answer
A
You get a 16' Length of 18AWG speaker wire included with the fantastic Klipsch R-15PM's, David. IF you need a longer length, make sure to add the amount a-la-carte using our 18-gauge Crutchfield speaker wire in the handy link below, sold by the foot. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CSW18/Crutchfield-Speaker-Wire-18-gauge.html

Q
Do these speakers automatically turn on when they sense an input signal? I notice they turn off after a period of time. I want to keep them on all the time.
william  Feb 06, 2023
1 answer
A
You have a couple of ways to power on the Klipsch Reference R-15PM's, Bill. Generally to turn them on, you can turn the volume knob up a bit as the newer models have the power button on the rear panel removed. When no music is playing, they may power off to save power. If you have them in a location where getting to the rear panel is inconvenient, the included remote control can be of good use for power on/off. No signal sensing turn-on listed in the factory manual after checking it out. I hope this helps!

Q
On the 'Features' page under 'Bluetooth Music Streaming', it states, "Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Klipsch R-15PM." Can you tell me what Bluetooth technology, if not the actual devices, might be incompatible with these speakers?
tom  Feb 05, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Tom, and thank you for your question. That note is also on other Bluetooth speakers that allow control over devices using the speaker manufactures remote control. as well. What your device would need to stream to these speakers is Bluetooth protocol A2DP. If your device has that, it can stream to these and most all Bluetooth speakers. Bluetooth protocol AVRCP is control over a device using the speaker controls, or an included remote. If your device does not support that, you would still be able to stream to these, you would just have to control the device on the device (AKA smart phone). Unfortunately due to the fact there are hundreds of Bluetooth devices, there is not an incompatibility list. We have sold thousands of this model, with no reports of incompatibility.

Q
are they new?
phil  Jan 13, 2023
1 answer
A
Aside from the occasional outlet stock item, which would be listed as outlet on our website, all items that we carry are new from the manufacturer.
zachary  Jan 18, 2023 (Staff)
Q
are these new?
phil  Jan 13, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Phil, and thank you for your question. New as in not used, or refurbished, yes. New as in a new release from Klipsch, no. We have been selling this model since 2016.
hogan  Jan 13, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can these be used on there sides?
james  Jan 09, 2023
1 answer
A
That would probably be ok if you need to lay them on the sides to fit your specific install, James. There is no mention of horizontal placement in the information for the Klipsch, also no specific warning against it in the manufacturer's documentation. The good news is these Klipsch would sound great in any orientation! I hope this helps.

Q
The Bluetooth on my old iPod that I want to use as the audio input may be incompatible with the R-15PM's. Should that turn out to be the case, would it be a workable alternative to use a USB-A female to female connector between the USB- A iPod male output cable and the USB-A male end of the provided USB-A to USB-B cable, then plug the USB-B cable into the speaker?
tom  Dec 19, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Tom, and thank you for your question. If your Ipod is not compatible with the Klipsch Bluetooth chip, the USB in will not be either. It can decode files from a PC or MAC, it just does not mention decoding from an Ipod so its very unlikely. If these Klipsch R-15PM do not work well with your Ipod, we can exchange them, or if your Ipod has a headphone out, that would work into the AUX input on the speaker.

Can these speakers be paired to a smart phone ?
sundown  Dec 08, 2022

Yes, these are Bluetooth enabled speakers that can receive Bluetooth from other Bluetooth compatible devices such as a smart phone. You can stream music from your phone to these speakers.

Q
Has anyone ran the Fluance PA10 high fidelity phono amp through these? also, if not, which would sound better? or both?
brian  Nov 23, 2022
2 answers
A
Depending on turntable I'd say you are likely five with these powered speakers with phono input built in, as the Fluance is not anything too high end. Fluance RT85 I'd put money into subwoofer before I invested in stand alone pre-amp
bill  Nov 23, 2022
A
We do not have access to Fluance products to demo and compare their sound to the phono preamp stage in these speakers. Hopefully one of our customers have used the Fluance with it and will chime in with their thoughts.

Q
When connected to a TV will the TV remote control the volume of the R-15PM?
scott  Jul 27, 2021
1 answer
A
No. You'll have to use the included remote to control the speaker volume. I actually reduced my number of remotes by switching to the RP-15M, but that's me.

Q
With the Klipsh Ref R-15 PM, Can you increase the speaker cable length between the speakers to 40' Go up to 16g wire?
sheldon  Apr 08, 2021
5 answers
A
You could use cable that long although the speakers are really not designed for that type of distance listening. 16g wire is not necessary due to the wattage of the speakers. Increasing the gauge of the wire will not really make much difference with a 60 watt speaker. I use mine as near field speakers in a workstation environment. I added a sub to the get the full spectrum of fidelity possible.
philip  May 07, 2021
A
You should be able to the the speaker wire are regular like most speakers have on them.
paul cecil  May 07, 2021
A
Yes, I did an old fashioned splice job with some speaker wire that was in the back of drawer.
steven s  May 01, 2021
A
Yes, that is a normal distance for 16g wire but no more than 48'. I ran my speakers in my office 50' apart but used 14ga wire. I also connected these to the Klipsch subwoofer, when I kick out Van Halen, Toto, or Deep Purple - the building rocks!
tom  Apr 30, 2021
A
Yes, shouldn't be an issue.

Q
What is the alternating current input?
apolinario  Apr 05, 2021

The speakers are powered. They have a 110v alternating current outlet input on the speaker with the amplifier. 110v alternating current is what you get from an electric outlet in the United States.

Q
do Klipsch have wireless for rear speakers ?
albert  Apr 03, 2021
2 answers
A
These are meant for stereo playback and are not designed to work with other speakers for a surround sound setup. We have other gear that is designed for surround sound and some can work with wireless rear speakers. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on such a setup
jason  Apr 18, 2021 (Staff)
A
If you wanted to connect your rear speaker output to a bluetooth transmitter (inexpensive ones are available), you could transmit to a set of these as rear speakers. However, there is a significant lag in the audio with Bluetooth, so if they were in the same room as your front speakers and the fronts were powered directly from your amplifier, the delay would drive you crazy.

bill  Apr 15, 2021
A
yes for sure unless it has some crazy hook up's I'm not aware of.
louis  Apr 14, 2021
A
YES. I use the speakers with my wireless turntable with no receiver. I just checked the back of the main speaker and there is a PHONO hookup in the back for the white and red phono jacks, so I am pretty sure you should be set to go!
mark  Apr 14, 2021
A
Yes. because these are powered speakers there's no need for a stereo receiver or preamp. The turntable can plug right into the speakers with RCA cables.
mike  Apr 14, 2021
A
Yes, we have an old Phillips 312 with a moving magnet cartridge connected directly to the phono inputs and it sounds great. If the cartridge you have is a moving magnet (unlikely) or ceramic (extremely unlikely) type you may need a new cartridge for best results. If you told 15-year-old me back in the 70's that you could plug the turntable directly into the speakers and it would work, I probably would have asked you to share what ever you'd been smoking.
jim  Apr 14, 2021
Q
Can I use these speakers with my Sony STR- DH 520 ? Wired or wireless?
larry  Mar 15, 2021
1 answer
A
WIRED: Page 27 of your manual shows, in the VIDEO output group, two analog RCA output plugs that may be able to be connected to these speakers' 3.5mm input jack. I CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL WORK, BUT THAT IS THE ONLY ANALOG AUDIO OUTPUT I SEE ON THIS UNIT. BLUETOOTH: If you have to push the signal some distance, you may want to attach a Bluetooth transmitter to those outputs and use the speakers' Bluetooth feature to capture the signal. If you have wired speakers connected to the Sony and you want to use Bluetooth, make sure that the Klipsch and the wired speakers are far enough apart that you can't hear them at the same time. Bluetooth has a ~100-300 ms. delay that will drive you crazy if you can hear sound from both speaker sets. If you go the Bluetooth route, I have had good luck with the "Avantree Oasis Plus Certified aptX HD Bluetooth 5.0 Transmitter Receiver", but there are cheaper ones on the market (these also work well with my Avantree headphones). Final note on bluetooth: once they're paired, you should be in good shape, but you can get interference and cross-coupling, so if you have Bluetooth connection issues, you should shut off the bluetooth services on all the other devices in your house (including your phones) when you are pairing.

Q
In 2015, bought a Reference R-10B sound bar w/8" sub that has Bluetooth connectivity. The sub is used with the Bluetooth connection on opposite side of living room from sound bar. Would the R-15PM bookshelf speakers also hook up wirelessly to the R-10B sound bar? Is the R-10B to old of a product to properly connect, or is there a better bookshelf speaker option from Klipsch that I'm not seeing?
robb  Mar 21, 2020
3 answers
A
The subwoofer that came with that R-10B soundbar is paired to the sound bar with a specific RF frequency. It will not pair with any other Bluetooth devices, including the R-15PM speakers. They do have a subwoofer output to add a traditional wired subwoofer or one with a wireless transmitter.
casey  Apr 20, 2020 (Staff)
A
I don't know about the r10b, but I have had a great experience with the r15pm. I connect to my computer via Bluetooth. I listen to music frequently in my office to a wide range of music. Highly recommend the 15pm
david  Apr 19, 2020
A
I am not qualified to answer the connectivity question, but I can recommend the R-15PM speakers ?? highly. I use them all the time for background music ?? primarily. BUT, they easily couple with powered Klipsch subwoofers. I like the front firing, front ported models, especially where room volume may be an issue. That combination, well under $1k, would be a better sound system than likely 98% of Americans will experience in an age of little Bluetooth boxes (that I love and use, btw).

There is no bass or treble control. Other than the signal inputs and outputs, there is only a volume control.

There is no bass or treble control. I find the speakers to be well balanced for all types of music. I have the speakers connected to an iMac. They sound great (transparent) up close and cranked up at a distance. If you want to shake the walls hook up a powered subwoofer to an output on the powered speaker.

eritomend  Aug 29, 2018

You can use either. The R-15PM features a mono-sub RCA output on the back of the "Right Speaker" that allows you to connect a powered subwoofer for added bass response so, you can use almost any powered subwoofer model you'd like. I hope that helps. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan

Does a driver need to be downloaded to connect a Mac using the provided USB cable?
kevin  Jul 15, 2018

I'm using the USB on a windows machine, not familiar with Mac, sorry but for windows it was just plug and play so I would think it would be same for Mac.

I had to manually select it the first time on the Mac, (System Preferences>Sound>Output Tab "Select a device for sound output"), but after that it recognizes it each time it's plugged in. You still need to select it on the speaker input by selecting USB on the Speaker remote or using the input knob (LED should be white for USB) .

Q
Sorry if this is a dumb question... Does Bluetooth transmitt in stereo? I thought hi-fi stereo was all it? If not then why do they package two speakers together?
jay  Mar 20, 2018
6 answers
A
Yes, they play as a stereo pair (not mono) with distinct left and right channels.
jennifer  Apr 08, 2018
A
Bluetooth being a digital connection (wireless) can transfer data of any form. When the device connects, it uses a predesignated profile, dictating the way that device can be handeled. So when connecting your device sending the data knows the recieving device (R-15PM) is a stereo device. Thus sending a stereo signal. In sort, yes.
michael  Apr 03, 2018
A
Yes, Bluetooth carries stereo. Because of the limited channel capacity on many Bluetooth connections, the stereo information is often compressed and "lossy"; therefore, the music may not sound as good as it would over a wired connection. I have used a Bluetooth connection between my laptop computer and the Klipsch R-15PM speakers to play music, and the music sounded okay to me.
david j.  Apr 03, 2018
A
Yes, Bluetooth is capable of stereo; I use it often with these speakers.
david  Apr 03, 2018
A
Yes, it is in stereo. You're going to have to trust me on this one. I am sure Crutchfield will have an article somewhere about it, but I stream in stereo both with these speakers and in my car.
robert  Apr 03, 2018
A
Yes, most modern Bluetooth devices (including the R-15PM) support the Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP standard, which supports high quality 2.1 stereo transmission. With the R15-PM, you also have the option of multiple hard wired connection types (and the ability to switch between sources using the included remote).

We bought a Sony Multichannel Audio Video Receiver from Crutchfield some years ago. Its attached to a Sony Bravia TV and a Sony Blue Ray Dvd player, a Logitech Squeezeplay Internet Radio, a CD player, etc and plays through an Audio Source Set of Front and Back Speakers with a Subwoofer as well. The Center speaker is an Infinity dual .My question is speaker could I add a Klipsch front speaker to this such as the Klipsch RP-15M?

This particular speakers (Klipsch RP-15M) is a powered speaker set, which is meant to use without an audio receiver. Only way it can be connected to your receiver is, if the receiver have a pre-amp connection. if you want to use the receiver as the power source the you might want to look into a non powered speaker like the Klipsch Reference R-15M. Hope this helps

It also has a TOSLINK port that allows a digital connection, which most CD players support.

Yes, I have done this. There is a set of standard RCA input jacks you can use. They are there for a turntable, but they have a switch so you can change the inputs from phono to Line-in.

Yes, there's both an optical and a standard RCA jack. A CD player will attach to either.

Is there an optional grill to cover the front? I like the product but find the bare speakers ugly. Thanks.

Unfortunately there are no grill covers for the speakers. And no easy way to fabricate your own and attach some. that was my one objection to this unit as well. But all of the other plusses (especially the sub woofer out put) made me pull the trigger and buy them anyway. I got used to the look because the sound is amazing after about 40 hours of break in time.

There is no grill to cover the front, even if they offer it as optional there is no way to attache it. I wish there was a grille cover, my kids are constantly touching the woofer. Sound is awesome.

I don't recall seeing anything like that in the box. All a matter of personal taste, I guess. They do look good once set-up next to other equipment and perform well.

Hey Gary! This is Jane with Crutchfield. I have these speakers in my living room right now! What a nice sound! These do not have a grill to cover them. Thanks for reaching out! I hope you have a good day!

Hi Gary - I bought the Klipsch Reference R-15PMs earlier this year. I didn't see an option for an optional grill; in fact Klipsch products, as a brand, are often recognizable by their unusual copper-colored woofers.

No cover offered. The gold cone is a Klipsch trademark so they do not cover their speakers.

Unfortunately they do not come with a grill. Actually they are very unique looking, especially when you see them in person.

A
No, these come without grills, and there's no provision for grill mounting.

can these be added to home theater speakers as side speakers as well ?

No i don't think they can be from what i read in the users manual as they have to be powered so they would not allow any signal through them.

A
NO. I would not recommend trying to integrate these speakers with another system of theater speakers. I tried using the Klipsch R-15PM speakers in parallel with another set, and there was a noticeable audio delay between the two sets; sounded like an echo.

How does a subwoofer connect to these speakers?

It has a subwoofer output on the speaker. I bought a subwoofer that works with a wireless kit,R-112 sw, from Klipsch. You can use a wire if you do not want to spend for the kit. The manual shows you the connection. Would have put the link but they do not allow links in responses. Go to the Klipsch site and search for the speaker. It will have the link to the manual.

The speaker has a subwoofer output at the back of it.

See page 3 of the R-15PM Owner's Manual (available at Crutchfield's webpage on the Klipsch Reference R-15PM). I haven't tried setting up a subwoofer yet, but according to the Owner's Manual, there is a "SUB OUT" (labeled jack 6 on Owner's Manual page 3) for a single-cable direct connection to a powered subwoofer. The connection is an RCA-type mono output. The RCA-type mono cable needed is not included with the R-15PM speakers, but that type of cable is common at most audio stores, including Crutchfield. The R-15PM includes a remote control that can control the SUB OUT signal's amplitude -- one way to control the volume of the bass coming from the subwoofer. No doubt most powered subwoofers have a knob or remote control as well to manage volume. Many powered subwoofers -- for example the Klipsch Reference R-110SW Subwoofer at Crutchfield -- have a RCA-type line feed input (jack LEFT/LFE or L/LFE) that provides the jack needed to complete the connection at the subwoofer end. So to connect the R-15PM to a subwoofer, simply use an RCA-type mono cable to connect the R-15PM's SUB OUT jack to the power subwoofer's LFE jack. An alternate way to connect the R-15PM is to use a wireless subwoofer kit like the Klipsch WA-2, available at Crutchfield. I haven't done thorough research, but it appears that the Klipsch WA-2 kit will work well with the Klipsch R-15PM and a Klipsch powered subwoofer like the R-110SW. Hope this answer helps. David

There's a sub out on the right monitor so you can just direct wire it.
clayton  Jul 13, 2016
A
There is a sub-out on the 'master' speaker. You can either run a subwoofer cable( single RCA type) to your sub and be done or if your subwoofer supports it (R115sw, R112sw, or R110sw) you can buy a wireless subwoofer kit and connect the transmitter to the master and the receiver to the sub and you are done. There are easy to find pictures of the ports available on the back of the speaker from Klipsch. It is really easy.

I'm using these with a fiio DAC and it sounds better using the DAC then the digital input, that makes me question if there's direct amp. I know this doesn't answer your question, but thought it might help.
