You might think that you can't have stereo sound in that hallway or nook because of limited space. Think again. The Klipsch® R-1650-CSM reproduces both channels of a stereo mix with a single speaker in-ceiling design. It boasts a 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer for tight bass, plus two 1" dome tweeters for clear highs. The R-1650-CSM is a great choice for listening to your tunes in the kitchen while preparing meals, or enjoying background music in the den while entertaining guests. Plus you can paint the grille to blend beautifully into any room's décor.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the R-1650-CSM in new construction (or a room that's undergoing major renovation).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this nice Klipsch speaker in the ceiling in my renovated bathroom, and it really sounds great. Whether news, talk radio, or music the sound is excellent, and the stereo separation works better than I expected. I'm very pleased (and so is my wife!).

    Mounting Options

In-ceiling Design The Klipsch R-1650-CSM in-ceiling speaker can be used in bathrooms, closets, hallways, or anywhere multiple speakers would not be practical.

Stereo Input: The R-1650-CSM has dual spring clip terminals to accept signals from both left and right channels. The dual voice coil woofer sums the low frequencies from the stereo input to mono. The upper frequencies are handled by individually for the two channels by a coaxially mounted dual-tweeter array, to preserve the stereo effect. The terminals accept up to 12-gauge speaker wire.

Drivers: The R-1650-CSM is equipped with the following drivers:

    • Tweeters: two 1" polymer dome tweeters
    • Woofer: a 6-1/2" polypropylene dual voice coil woofer

Basket/Frame: The R-1650-CSM has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor (a clear paint mask is supplied to protect the drivers from overspray). The aluminum mesh grille is also paintable.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 35 watts RMS (140 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 70 watts.

    Mounting Options

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 8.33". For new construction, purchase of the IK-650-C installation kit (714IK650C) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2' or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

    Customer Q&A

    Crutchfield asked
    Why did you buy this?

I have 7.1 Surround Sound in my bedroom and have been using an older Klipsch center channel. I wanted to improve the quality of the center channel to complement my Denon 4100w I am using to drive the setup. Last year I bought a complete set of Klipsch Reference Speakers for my main listing area and I am very satisfied with the performance. This new center channel should provide more clarity to my overall experience. [ JOE D  Jan 28, 2016 ]
