Great Klipsch performance in an affordable speaker

The R-2650-C II's 1" silk dome tweeter delivers clean, clear sound. The 6-1/2" woofer adds warmth and heft to the sound of movies and music alike. Klipsch speakers are renowned for their high efficiency and room-filling sound.

Slimmer chance of being seen

The R-2650 II keeps a low profile with its SlimTrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the R-2650-C II in new construction.

Features

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-ceiling speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 91dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

2-Way Driver Design: The Klipsch R-2650-C II uses a high-quality 1" silk dome compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with a 6.5" polypropylene woofer in a 2-way design.

  • Tweeter: The low-resonance, 1" Silk Dome tweeter recreates high frequencies with reduced distortion.
  • Woofer: This dense, yet lightweight, 6.5" polypropylene woofer can reproduce authoritative bass.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a pair of spring clips that can accept up to 12-gauge wire or pin connectors.

ABS Basket/Frame: The R-2650-C II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

Mounting Options

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 8.1875". For new construction, purchase of the IK-650-C installation kit (714IK650C, sold separately) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2' or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

Customer Q&A

Q
Will these work with a 4 ohm amp?
john  Jan 03, 2022
1 answer
A
Your amp is likely stable down to 4 ohms meaning that it can work with speakers 4 ohms and up. Give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 with the model of your amp and we'll be happy to confirm that for you!

Q
Would you recommend these as your Atmos speakers? I already have my rear speakers in the ceiling so these would be placed just above or in front of the sitting area. I am concerned about not being able to aim the tweeter.

A
I bought two pairs of these speakers to use in my atmos setup and I love them. When purchasing these I was also concerned about not being to aim the tweeter but after hearing them action, I am very pleased with my purchase. Hope this helps.

Q
What is the distance between the speakers and mounting hooks? Looking to install these to ship-lap + drywall, so it will be about 1 1/4" - 1 3/8". Will the hooks grab that deep?

Not sure. Can't find definitive spec. I would guess max grab is about 1". Call Klipsch to be sure.

Hi, thank you for your question. The only information that has been published regarding mounting The Klipsch R-2650-C II shows installation will need to be into drywall at least 3/8" thick, your installation should not pose an issue, but you may wish to reach out to Klipsch for further information on that. You may reach them at 800-554-7724.

I utilized the Klipsch pre-construction bracket as I was doing a basement finish. The bracket added 3/8" thickness to my 1/2" drywall which left 3/8" for it to grab. You should be ok up to 1 1/4", don't think it will work if you need more than that.

No, does not swivel.

Q
Can the Klipsch R-2650-C II be enclosed? I'm concerned about insulation getting into the speaker. It is my understanding some in-ceiling speakers should not be enclosed.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I'll give the plastic bubble wrap a try and see how it works. Great idea!

SPEAKERS ARE GREAT, SOUND GOOD - THE INSTALLATION BOOKLET SAYS NOTHING ABOUT ENCLOSING THE SPEAKERS. I WOULD GO TO KLIPSCH.COM AND ASK THE QUESTION. I DID NOT ENCLOSE MINE AND INSATLL WAS VERY SIMPLE. IF YOU CLEAR A SUFFICIENT AREA OF INSULATION YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY WORRIES. BOTTOM LINE ASK KLIPSCH.

These speakers were installed in my home ceiling with attic insulation above them. I have had no issues with my situation whatsoever after 2 years of use. Sound is great. If concerned, you might be advised to contact the manufacturer.

Yes at least I did. I was also concerned about laying on the speakers. What I did, I went to Home Depot and purchased a roll of that silver plastic bubble insulation wrap that they sell (I surmise you can purchase at many hardware stores). I then made baskets large enough to completely cover the speaker . I formed the wrap into bowls cutting and stapling them together. For me our home was pre-wires, so I just cut the holes from below and just before I installed the speakers I placed each insulated bowl above the felling hole. I felt that it solved to things. It kept insulation from touching the speakers and I feel it will help direct the sound into the room. Hope this helps.....

On my installation I have mine in a fake ceiling so insulation is not a problem I honestly cannot say if it should be inclosed or not if you enclose it to protected from the installation I would make a big enough enclosure so there's no interference from a sound box effect but them people put speakers in boxes all the time.

Sorry I didn't enclose them
