Ready, aim, music!

A rigid anodized aluminum woofer produces accurate bass and mid-bass. The pivoting tweeter lets you direct clean highs toward your favorite listening spot, for a broad soundstage with well-defined imaging. And treble and mid-bass level switches let you tailor the sound to suit your personal taste and room's acoustics.

Horn technology for room-filling sound

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn," which disperses the highs evenly across your listening area. This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound. The horn also improves dynamics and efficiency, for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Slimmer chance of being seen

The '5800-W II keeps a low profile with its Slimtrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the R-5800-W II in new construction.

Features

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-wall speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 94dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

2-Way Speaker System: The R-5800-W II uses a premium 1" Titanium compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with a large 8" Cerametallic woofer in a 2-way design.

  • Tweeter: The 1" Titanium dome compression tweeter is mated to a 4" square, pivoting Tractrix Horn, which disperses the sound 90° horizontally and 60° vertically into the room. The horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter. The addition of a Linear Travel Suspension to the tweeter increases high frequency detail and smoothness.
  • Woofer: The copper-colored 8" Cerametallic woofer utilizes solid Aluminum diaphragms, anodized to add stiffness and provide perfect damping, and have a new hi-tech look that also delivers increased rigidity for even tighter, more defined bass. The new integrated dust caps further strengthen the cones and help ventilate the voice coils for increased driver durability.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a gold-plated pair of spring-loaded binding posts that can accept up to 12-gauge wire, single banana plugs, or pin connectors.

Tweeter/Midbass Attenuation Switches: If the speaker is installed in an acoustically bright room, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, you can attenuate the tweeter by -3dB, using the Tweeter Attenuation Switch. If the speaker is located in a corner and produces too much bass, you should adjust the Mid-bass level switch (-3dB). Both switches are located on the front of the speaker.

ABS Basket/Frame: The R-5800-W II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

Mounting Options

New or Pre-Existing Installation: The in-wall speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 9.125" wide x 14.6875" high, with a mounting depth of 3.9375". A cardboard template is supplied to measure cutout opening. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall (or other mounting surfaces) at least 3/8" thick. The Klipsch in-wall speaker features four sure-grip mounting dogs (clamps) that provide even pressure against drywall for long-term installation reliability. For new construction, purchase of the IK-800-W installation kit (714IK800W, sold separately) is highly recommended.

IR Knockout: A 1/2" diameter knockout panel is provided in the lower left hand corner of the speaker frame for installing an IR sensor.

Q
Which speaker is better for a surround sound speaker the 5800 or 5650?
bill  Feb 15, 2024
1 answer
A
The R-5650-S II is the best speaker in this series to use as surround speakers and they can be found here: www.crutchfield.com/p_714R5650S2/item.html

Q
Would these make good surround speakers?
shaun  Jan 31, 2024
1 answer
A
The Klipsch R-5800-W II would work well in a surround speaker location, Shaun. You could also consider using the Klipsch R-5650-S II surround speaker in the link below that has dual-firing tweeters. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_714R5650S2/Klipsch-R-5650-S-II.html

Q
Can this speaker be used as a center speaker?
andy  Mar 28, 2023
1 answer
A
It's possible, Andy. Technically speaking you could use the Klipsch R-5800-W in every in-wall location in your home theater for a truly voice-matched setup. You could also consider Klipsch's center channel specific option with the R-5502-W in the link below! The 5502 multi-purpose speaker performs exceptionally when in a horizontal position. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_714R5502W2/Klipsch-R-5502-W-II.html

Q
Description states "paintable SlimTrimT magnetic grille" but are they really paintable and then still usable?
kelly  Feb 12, 2023
1 answer
A
Absolutely, Kelly. You will want to make sure to use the correct methods here. A thin, light coat of spray in your color preference will produce the best results. Make sure NOT to use a roller, or thick paints as they will fill in the holes in the grill and reduce performance. These Klipsch R-5800's have exceptional sound quality for your music OR movies!
bo  Feb 13, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Will these speakers, if used as front R and front L, produce a phantom center channel with a capable receiver? I will be using the Yamaha TSR 700.
clint  Aug 03, 2022
1 answer
A
Yes. These would do nicely to produce a front-stage for home theater, even without a center channel.
zachary  Aug 03, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Will these fit in a 2x4 interior wall with half inch drywall?
andrew  Mar 21, 2022

A
Yes, 1/2" drywall and 2x4 walls works just fine with these speakers. Very nice design with great looking grill and excellent sound!
kyle  Mar 22, 2022
A
If it is standard construction, it would fit.
robert  Mar 21, 2022
A
I believe they will fit but it will be a tight fit. I'm putting these in a wall that is a foot deep so I have plenty of room. You may want to call Klipsch to confirm...
matt  Mar 21, 2022
A
Should fit, yes. I have 2x6, but more than 2"clearance behind
barry  Mar 21, 2022
Q
Can I use these speakers with a 100 watts per channel Yamaha receiver?

From Klipsch spec sheet: Recommended Amplifier Power - 100W
jonny  Mar 10, 2023
A
No I currently use mine with a Yamaha MX Dash-A5200 at 150 W per channel
shawn  Jan 23, 2022
A
50 WATTS RMS (200 WATTS PEAK) SO I WOULD SAY YES. CALL TECH TO BE FOR SURE. I USE THEM FOR MY SUROUND SPEAKERS IN MY THEATHER ROOM. NO ISSUES. I HAVE TOWER SPEAKERS FOR FRONT AND SATELLITE FOR MY REARS.
matt  May 27, 2021
A
I don't see why not. I plan to use mine (not installed yet) with a parasound amp rated at 75watts. I suppose you could harm them if you send too much current, but I am no engineer.
robert  May 27, 2021
Q
how do i aim the horn in klipsch r 5800 in wall speaker?
benjamin  Feb 09, 2020
1 answer
A
It only moves left or right. While installed you push on the horn housing firmly and push either left or right.

Can these speakers be used outside under a patio?

Q
May I assume this can be mounted vertically or horizontally?
christopher  Mar 16, 2018
2 answers
A
Works either way
daniel m  Mar 17, 2018
A
Should be fine horizontal. The weight won't be balanced in the horizontal, so a little easier to get level when vertical IMO.
jon  Mar 16, 2018
Q
Will a "back box" be necessary for installation or could a sound absorbing mat and/or insulation be used also with some kind of silicon caulk used in the crevice of the drywall and the studs?
jim  Oct 11, 2016
4 answers
A
Mine are installed in exterior walls in New England so no boxes were used. They sound incredible as is. If you are mounting in interior walls I would consider boxes or just pushing in some insulation and taking it in place so it has about 1-2 inches between speaker and installation so they can breath. These are sealed and are not vented so no heat/cooling loss. Simply cut the hole, run the wire and they have flaps that fold out and grad the drywall to secure them in place. Grills are magnetic and paintable. I did not paint them. We change the color of that room every 3-4 years so keeping them white to match the trim. They blend in nicely. Almost flush.
brian  Oct 12, 2016
A
I didn't use any back box. But all of my walls are exterior. The sound is very good. I just have a little spray foam insulation around the speakers.
chris  Oct 11, 2016
A
i used these as rear surround sppkrs in wall with no back box". and works fine .the space between studs is your enclosure .Caulk is totally not needed.
carl b  Oct 11, 2016
A
I went straight into the wall with nothing but rolled insulation behind. No modification. They sound incredible.
adrian  Oct 11, 2016
Q
There is a large metal post in the area where my center channel speaker should be placed. What center channel speaker can I use (not in wall) can I use with these speakers?
dennis  Mar 14, 2016
2 answers
A
Center channels are overrated. Get two good towers and go without a center. You'all never miss it. Most amps can do a phantom center from the twin towers and it will beat any center re frequency response.
brian  Oct 12, 2016
A
I used the in wall speakers as my center channel and they sound great. I'm not sure what to recommend. But you could possibly consider building a small wooden enclosure to mount these speakers and place where you want. It would a little more work but it would allow you to be consistent in your speaker use.
