A smart balance of performance, size, and value

Klipsch® has a no-compromise attitude when it comes to speaker performance — which is why the conveniently sized, modestly priced RB-51 II bookshelf speaker can sound so good. They offer up dynamic, full-bodied sound that makes them ideal for medium-sized rooms. Building on Klipsch's previous Reference speaker line, the Series II models have updated drivers and a new crossover system for even more spacious sound. So they're equally impressive whether you're watching a movie or listening to music.

Grille off

Horn technology for "front row" sound

All Reference Series II speakers feature a redesigned version of Klipsch's famous horn-loaded tweeter. Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn," which disperses the highs evenly across your listening area in a 90°-wide, 60°-high pattern. With their Series II speakers, Klipsch has redesigned the shape and slope of their famous horn enclosure, so your movie soundtracks and music will sound more "open," with improved dynamics and efficiency. All in all, you can count on powerful, "front row" sound that's crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Cabinet construction

High-tech driver design

The RB-51 IIs also use newly machined, light-yet-rigid Cerametallic woofers with a folded edge to produce smoother mids and tighter bass. The specially treated aluminum in the cones help to dampen unwanted vibrations and distortion, while an integrated dustcap gives them a cleaner look and adds stability. And the rigid, braced cabinets come in a handsome woodgrain vinyl finish.

Check out the rest of our Klipsch lineup, and build a complete Reference Series II home theater or stereo speaker system. And don't forget to add a Klipsch subwoofer for high-impact bass.

Why choose bookshelf speakers?

Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.

Awesome surround speakers

Written By Jwall121988, Michigan on Monday, May 04, 2015

Just got these to use as my surround speakers in a 5.1 set up. I have them running with all Klipsch speakers. I must say that these guys aren't being used that often simply because the surround effects only come every so often while watching shows/blu-ray movies, but when they do come, they sound so good its unbelievable. They make my old surround speakers sound like pure garbage. I can actually HEAR what is meant to be heard finally to my left and right. Its really quite awesome. I love how they look, they feel incredibly solid, and Im really happy I bought these bad boys.

Pros: Awesome clear sound Amazing design Build quality is top notch

Cons: none

Small Package - Robust Sound

Written By Beatinski, New York on Monday, April 27, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a set of older US made Klipsch towers, which of course, sound better. That said, these fit the bill surprisingly well where I needed a set of smallish speakers. At low volume they actually sound more full than their larger counterparts, yet they can adequately fill a room surprisingly well. You don't feel the bass with these, however, and for better or worse, your room doesn't vibrate. On the other hand, they are excellent for giving you decent range at lower volume while not bothering neighbors. These speakers perform well and will require decent input sources.

Pros: Surprisingly full and robust for their size. Excellent low volume range. Solid heavy cabinet. Strong midrange.

Cons: Made in China. Is this really necessary?

I own pair of original cornwall speakers and have several other klipsch products.this product is outstanding.

Outstanding speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are the centerpiece of my new music-only room, along with my venerable Klipsch KSW-10 sub. I have owned Klipsch products for over 30 years, and these speakers fully live up to the legacy and sonic expectations one has when purchasing a Klipsch product. With the recent price drop due to the new line of Klipsch Reference speakers, the RB-51's present an incredible value as well.

If you are in the market for a superb bookshelf speaker, the RB-51 is definitely a very strong contender, and if you're on a budget, I am not aware of any speaker that provides as much quality sound for the money.

Pros: Great Dynamics, Realistic Sound Reproduction, Clear

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Exelente bocina para un cine en casa pero para escuchar musica en estéreo creo que hay mejores por el precio. Es una bocina elegante si la quieres lucir.

Excellent speaker for a home theater, but I think that for the money there are better speakers for listening to music in stereo. It's an elegant speaker if you want to show it off.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to compliment my 30 year old Klipsch floor standing speakers. I wanted a little more highs in the room and they seem to fit the bill perfectly. I just spent some money having my Dual 1229 turntable refurbished and let me tell you, going back to listen to vinyl again is such a treat. I had forgotten how nice it sounds.

Pros: Wonderful speakers at a great price.

Cons: none.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Klipsch RB -51 II bookshelf speakers are providing sound quality far beyond my fondest expectations. Replacing larger bookshelf speakers, the Klipsch speakers provide distinct and accurate sound for any type of music including symphony orchestra, voice(s),small ensembles, and individual solos. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and fullness of bass, not that of loud and boosted bass. These speakers provide lushes. full and accurate sound. Thank you Klipsch.

Pros: Full, accurate sound.

Cons: None noted.

Speakers for the "musical purist"

Written By JerryR, Georgia on Saturday, March 14, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I enjoy music very clear! If I want additional "effects", I'll use my receiver's equalizer & effects processors. Klipsch speakers provide the utmost in clarity. Even if you enjoy your music "tweaked", you have to start with an accurate sound. Admittedly, the RB-51 does not accentuate a booming base (which I do not usually want) but that is the sub-woofer's job. I've been a musician/composer for 40+ years & like to be able to hear every note, no matter how complex the music.

These speakers also do a great job in film mode - fantastic music & crisp dialog. Very versatile. Coupled with Crutchfield's unparalleled customer service, they're a home run!

Pros: Clarity. Accurate music reproduction. Klipsch speakers ... biggest bang for the buck that I know of.

Cons: None

I had been using some suped up Minimus 7's for my front speakers. Now that I have my Klipsch Speakers, I have moved them to the rear for surrounds. I am hearing more depth, fullness and staging and just great clarity than ever before. Very happy with this purchase!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

How can you go wrong with Klipsch speakers, they are great. But what was even more awesome was the customer service from Crutchfield!! When I received the speakers and took off the front cover, to my disappointment one of the speakers was torn right off the box and laying on the bottom of the speaker box. I called Crutchfield and told her my problem. She immediately e-mailed a pre paid return postage slip AND sent me out brand new speakers that day with out first checking out my returned damage speakers. I have bought numerous other equipment from Crutchfield and this was my first time having a problem. This experience confirms what many other customers have stated concerning Crutchfield great customer service and I will NEVER buy from anywhere else!

Pros: Great speakers and even greater customer service.

Cons: None

So far so good!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Currently using them in a 2.0 (stereo) setup attached to a pioneer vsx-824 receiver. Only have had the setup for a few days but out of the box they are very clear. I haven't purchased a sub woofer yet so I am currently running full range through them and they do reproduce fairly low frequencies. Obviously the low frequencies are going to be reproduced much lower (spl) than the mid/high frequencies, so add a sub woofer if you like a lot of bass that you can "feel" in your music, but if you want to just "hear" it they do the job pretty well so far!

Amazing sound for the price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been an audiophile for quite a while some high quality headphones and car speaker systems so I finally decided to buy some house speakers. My final decision was between these, some definitive speakers and some polk audio and after 5 days of searching review after review I ended up with these and couldn't be happier. These sound orgasmic and make my music ten times more enjoyable to listen to! I mainly use these for listening to music and they sound amazing in every category from classical to dubstep to rap. When I do hook them up to the tv they bring such lifelike sounds that it raises the whole experience. I bought a cheap 10 inch powered woofer with these and it makes for a great system. In the end I bought it here from Crutchfield because it has a built in warranty and the service support. Originally I would've gone with amazon but for a warranty its like an extra hundred so these guys won and are much better customer support. Thank you Crutchfield!

Pros: Sound amazing whatever kind of music I play pretty strong bass for their size can get extremely loud, I've never been able to max them out because my ears would most likely start bleeding Extremely stylish and cool looking

Cons: NONE

It was time for an upgrade for speakers, 20 years was a long time. I was so impress with the quality of craftsmanship of the speaker. I was blown away of the clarity and bass these bookshelf speakers have. For the size of the driver these put our great volume level. Action movies are more enjoyable now with these speakers.

Pros: Very clean response and tight bass, sound amazing.

Cons: Non.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am using these as my front speakers in my 7.2 setup in my living room. I purchase a new entertainment center that did not allow enough room for my klipsch floor standing speakers. I debated much larger bookshelf speakers, but for a living room these have plenty of sound for movies and music. If you were using them as stand alone you may want to go larger, but when accompanied by my 12" sub and surround, they are more than sufficient .

Pros: Good sound in a small package.

Cons: none.

Excellent!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these to not too long ago and I am very pleased with their performance. They are being driven by a SONY STR - DN840 and they are awesome. Music, movies, whatever... the sound is fantastic. Although these don't have huge drivers, they do have quite decent bass response when used without a subwoofer. I would totally buy these again.

Pros: Solid construction, excellent sound at all volume levels, decent bass response.

Cons: None

I just purchased and wall mounted these speakers in my home. I listened to a number of speakers in the store they have set up in the "speaker room." These were the best to my ear. They are crisp at the high end and do a very thorough job throughout the low and mid-range.

Pros: Quality made, attractive, and priced right.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are ok speakers. Not very musical but good for movies in a home theatre setup. I had these with the matching center RC52II and returned them all. They just did not do it for me. The surrounds are awesome though. I did keep the RS42II but decided to go with a different brand fronts and center. The customer service is absolutely fantastic with Crutchfield. The receiver I bought (Yamaha Aventage 1010) with these did not turn on so they sent me a new one. That one has a loose HDMI port, guess what... they are sending me a new one no questions asked. It is not Crutchfield's fault the product has a defect. The 60 day return policy is industry leading.

Pros: Good for movies. Very handsome looking speaker. They just don't sound very good. Crutchfield customer service is top notch so when you do make your decision on speakers etc... Crutchfield will take care of you. No they did not pay me to write this review, I just know how it is to get bad service. Do not worry about that with Crutchfield.

Cons: The titanium tweeters are not as musical as the aluminum tweeters. Voices sound muffled even after much PEQ manipulation. I really tried to like the Reference II series speakers but B&W just sound so much better. I wish they (B&W) allowed Crutchfield to be a mail order seller, but it is not their (B&W) business model to allow mail order sales.

Driver Technology

Highly-Efficient Design: The Klipsch RB-51 II utilizes a highly efficient design to produce more output using less power & energy for louder sound with less distortion. The RB-51 II is able to fill smaller rooms with outstanding, accurate, non-fatiguing sound that you can listen to for hours.

Tractrix Horn Tweeter: Each Klipsch RB-51 II features a professional-grade 1.0-inch titanium-diaphragm compression driver inside a square Tractrix Horn for smoother high-end response with greater extension, enhanced imaging, and more powerful dynamics. The Tractrix Horns deliver a 90-degree wide by 60-degree high dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage. Behind each horn lies a 1.0-inch titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound.

Cerametallic Woofer: The 5.25-inch woofer of the RB-51 II features Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic cones. Made with an anodized aluminum, these cones are strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts their inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range. The 5.25-inch woofer also employs a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: For signal purity and perfect driver integration, the crossover on the RB-51 II features the finest components and Klipsch custom internal wiring.

Enclosure Design

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The dual 5.25-inch Cerametallic cone woofer and 1.0" titanium diaphragm compression driver are mounted in a bass reflex enclosure which features a single rear-firing port. The RB-51 II's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound and a rear-firing port to eliminate turbulence noise. A black metallic finished baffle around the horn mouth and woofer dramatically improve acoustics across the sonic range. The bass reflex enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a Black Ash wood-grain vinyl veneer.

Magnetic Grille: The bookshelf loudspeaker features a removable magnetic grille which easily snaps into place over its cast-aluminum front baffle. The speaker can be used with or without its grille in place.

Connections

Binding Posts: Each bookshelf loudspeaker is equipped with one pair of sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of speaker cables and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Mounting Options

Rubber Feet: Each bookshelf speaker comes supplied with eight self-adhesive rubber feet (4 for each speaker) so you can sit the speakers on a stand or shelf securely. The rubber feet add approximately 0.3125" to the height of each speaker. There are also two 1/4"-20 threaded inserts on the back of each loudspeaker for mounting the speaker to third-party stands (sold separately).

Note: The two threaded inserts are spaced 3.0" apart.

Wall Mounting: Each Klipsch Reference bookshelf speaker feature a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied).

Placement: The Reference Series bookshelf loudspeakers are designed to perform well in a wide variety of locations but you will get the most out of the speakers by following these simple guidelines.

  • Place the front left and right speakers on shelves or stands with their tweeters at approximately ear height for a seated listener. When used surround sound speakers, they normally perform best when placed slightly higher than ear level.
  • The bookshelf loudspeakers should be equal distance from the floor and the wall behind them. It can also helps to have the left and right speakers at different distances from their nearest side walls. This sort of staggering helps smooth the bass range.
