Our take on the Klipsch Reference Series RC-62

Experience full dialogue and special effects

The Klipsch® RC-62 combines advanced horn technology and solid construction to fill your home theater room with crystal-clear dialogue and potent special effects. The included feet let you tilt the RC-62 up or down, so you can aim it precisely at your listening position whether you place it on top of your TV or on a shelf in your TV stand below.

Horn technology for dynamic performance

The RC-62 uses a horn-loaded tweeter. A flared opening in the enclosure projects high frequencies toward your listening area and prevents sound waves from simply spilling out in all directions. It's the same principle that makes your voice easier to hear when you cup your hands around your mouth. This horn design brings out details in all your movie soundtracks, while reducing reflections that can color the sound. The horn also improves dynamics, for crystal-clear reproduction of everything from the faintest whisper to the loudest on-screen explosion. This expanded dynamic range and the RC-62's extremely high efficiency ensure everyone in the room enjoys powerful, "front row" sound.

Overview: The Klipsch Reference Series RC-62 Center Channel Loudspeaker combines Tapered-Array technology and Klipsch's performance and design to deliver a seamless, engaging soundstage. The RC-62 employs dual 6.5-inch Cerametallic woofers and a Tractrix horn-loaded 1" titanium tweeter in a bass reflex cabinet for maximum clarity and efficiency.

Driver Technology

Tapered-Array Technology: This center channel utilizes Klipsch's Tapered-Array Technology, a 2.5-way design that minimizes the acoustical interference between drivers that plagues most horizontal center-channel speakers. This technology allows both woofers to create intense bass, while only one works with the tweeter to produce the midrange. The result is a smooth, clear sound not just directly in front of the speaker, but off to the sides as well, where conventional center speakers often exaggerate or mask sounds.

Tractrix Horn Tweeter: The RC-62 features an exclusive Tractrix Horn which provides a more genuine, lifelike sound. In addition, behind the horn lies a 1-inch titanium tweeter with a powerful neodymium magnet motor structure to provide a unique combination of precision, clarity and effortless dynamics. The Tractrix Horn delivers a 90-degree wide by 60-degree high dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage.

Cerametallic Woofer: The dual 6.5-inch woofers of the RC-62 center channel loudspeaker features Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 6.5-inch woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RC-62's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration.

Enclosure Design

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The dual 6.5-inch Cerametallic cone woofers and 1-inch titanium diaphragm compression driver are mounted in a bass reflex enclosure which features two front-firing ports. The twin front-firing ports eliminate turbulence noise, while increased baffle ribbing around the horn mouth dramatically improves acoustics across the sonic range. The bass reflex enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a Black Ash wood-grain vinyl and an aluminum front baffle. The RC-62's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Magnetic Grille: The center channel loudspeaker features a removable magnetic grille which easily snaps into place over its cast-aluminum front baffle. The speaker can be used with or without its grille in place.

Connections

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Series RC-62 is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors.

Mounting Options

Placement: The RC-62 should be centered directly above or below your video screen. If necessary, you can place the speaker on an optional floor stand in front of and below the screen that elevates it to the correct height. Ideally, however, the speaker's front baffle should be flush with the front of the screen.

Magnetically Shielded: The Klipsch RC-62 center channel loudspeaker is magnetically shielded to prevent video interference.

Adjustable Angle: If the center speaker is well above or below the ear height of seated listeners, you can improve performance by angling the center channel slightly to compensate. Included with the speaker is an adjustable foot that you can screw into one of the two threaded inserts on the bottom of the cabinet. To tilt the speaker down, install the foot in the insert near the back of the cabinet; to tilt the speaker up, install the foot in the insert near the front of the cabinet. The center channel speaker also comes with six self-adhesive rubber feet to secure the speaker in place and prevent any damage to your stand's or shelf's surface.

Great Center Speaker

Written By TonyA, California on Friday, November 05, 2010

Outstanding center speaker, much easier to understand conversations -- even with the heavy background that is prevalent in today's movies. I'm hearing sounds I've not heard before... great experience.

Cen-terrific!

Written By ritter, Bettendorf, IA on Monday, August 09, 2010

I wanted this center to go with my RF-82 and RS-62 speakers, but the size was holding me back. I finally found an entertainment center from "Standout Designs" that was designed for a large center like this.

I always hated when speech would drop in volume, turn it up, then explosions would over-power too much. With this speaker (and a good receiver) everything maintains the proper level and sounds great. Powerful yet crisp and clear.

This is the one!

Written By Gavin, Chicago, IL on Tuesday, April 07, 2009

This single item can change your life. Have you ever hit reverse to play back what you didn't hear before? It's sound is so pristine that you will hear voices and words with such clarity that you will not believe was possible. Breath and various sounds that you never new were there in movies and in live TV news, etc. will bring you into what you are watching. My Father is 80 and has bilateral hearing aids. When he comes over, he can't hear me unless I'm screaming and he's reading my lips. But, he can hear this center channel at a normal or even low volume just fine from anywhere in the room. I am serious about music. I enjoy 5.1 DVD Audio music discs almost more than anything in the world. With these, regular CD's might as well be 8 track tapes. Many of these discs have various drum equipment coming from the center channel such as the bass drum or a rim shot. This center does more than handle it. It sounds so real it's amazing. This center makes it sound like a bass guitar or a drum, not a speaker. If you don't have this speaker, you are missing sounds that you paid for when you bought that disc or paid your cable/satellite dish bill. When you take the grill off, it takes everyone's breath away at how cool it looks. I've been in symphony orchestras and a rock band, but anyone can truly appreciate the timbre of every instrument including the human voice with this speaker. With this speaker I hear what I'm looking for. This is the one that gives you everything.

Makes your whole system better

Written By Steven, Chicago on Tuesday, March 31, 2009

I swapped out a small bookshelf speaker (great speaker itself) that was performing center channel duties for this Klipsch, and the difference is astounding. I regret neglecting the center channel previously. With my Denon 7.1 channel receiver, my entire system sounds better now because of this Klipsch center channel. Overall system volume can be reduced because this speaker provides very clean and clear sound, delivering crisp dialouge with wonderful depth and clarity.
Note that this is a farily big speaker, and make sure that you have room for it.

Klipsch Reference Series RC-62

Written By Dan, Louisville, KY on Tuesday, September 23, 2008

This thing is a monster! I can't imagine how big and heavy the RC-64 must be. Anyway, this center speaker will not disappoint. Pair this with the RF-62's and RS-52's and you'll have an amazing surround system. The reference series Klipsch are very clean and have plenty of power. This speaker is tall and deep so make sure you have the shelf space. My LCD tv is actually mounted to the stand and i had to modify it to raise my tv up about an inch to make this speaker fit. I knew that before i bought it but i wanted this speaker so i made a minor adjustment to make it work. Klipsch supplies rubber nipples to attach to the bottom of the speaker and also a screw to adjust the speaker up or down depending on your placement. Buying Klipsch was well worth the investment!
