Our take on the Klipsch Reference One

by Dave Bar
with_inline remote

Amazing Klipsch® sound you can take with you everywhere

If you love your music and the convenience of your iPod® or iPhone®, too, Klipsch made the Reference One headphones just for you. These powerful yet lightweight 'phones pack a huge sonic punch, delivering your tunes with realism and clarity while offering an amazingly comfortable fit. Your music will sound detailed and natural, whether you're rocking out to a killer guitar riff or relaxing to a smooth jazz beat. Klipsch also designed the Reference Ones in conjunction with Apple® to provide easy control of the music loaded on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad®.

Switch between your calls and music with ease

imageone_remote A three-button remote control built into the headphone cable lets you conveniently answer and end calls, control the volume of your calls or music, and pause, play, or skip through your songs. You can even take calls on your iPhone hands-free, thanks to an in-line microphone. The mic features echo cancellation that keeps your voice clear so you won't have to worry about surrounding noises drowning you out.

Hands-on or hands-off, you control the show

The Reference One makes controlling your player and your music a snap. The plus and minus buttons let you adjust the volume up and down, while the middle button handles the rest. When listening to music, press the middle button once to play or pause your tunes, twice to skip forward a track and three times to skip back. For phone use, press the middle button once to answer and once to end the call. You can also use the middle button to take advantage of the voice control feature on the latest iPhone and iPod touch models. Just hold down the button and say your command.

Comfort, good looks, and convenience

Each pivoting earcup features high-density memory foam wrapped with soft natural leather for hours of listening comfort. The earcups also create a tight seal to help minimize outside noise and enhance bass, so you can enjoy your music at lower, safer volumes. And since the noise reduction is passive, no batteries or active electronics are ever needed. These 'phones feature a stylish black and copper finish and leather accents, including a cushioned, leather-covered headband. The durable, tangle-resistant cable prevents snarls while the supplied clothing clip helps keep it in place when you're on the move. The earcups even fold flat to fit nicely in the supplied case for storage and travel.

40mm Drivers: The Reference ONE stereo headphones cover a wide frequency range with accurate detail and delivers strikingly realistic sound with a moving coil 40mm dynamic speaker.

Passive Noise Cancellation: Each lightweight, pivoting ear cup features premium leather and a special high-density memory foam for hours of listening pleasure and superior passive noise-cancellation, which blocks out ambient noise and provides enhanced bass. And unlike active noise-cancelling headphone designs, the Reference One does not require batteries.

On-Ear Pads w/ Adjustable Headband: The Reference ONE headphones feature cushioned on-ear pads and an adjustable leather headband for a comfortable fit.

3-Button Mic + Remote System: Thanks to its advanced 3-button mic and remote system,  the Reference ONE offers control of your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad. The built-in 3-button remote control lets you answer and end calls, turn the volume up and down, and control music playback (Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Skip). Unlike other headsets, the Reference ONE positions its mic and remote at the cable yoke to create a more natural feel when answering calls and controlling music. The mic is a highly intelligible 360° design with echo cancellation, so you will be heard crystal clear and will not have to worry about the external noise around you. The Klipsch Reference ONE is compatible with the following Apple iPod, iPhone, and iPad models (as of 8/14/2012).

Perfect Headset for me

Written By Airevolt, Bloomfield, NJ on Sunday, September 02, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
before i bought this i read a lot of reviews about this item from other sites and a couple of people said that you need to "break-in" this headset for 3-5 days 'til you get to it it's full potential. well that's true in my opinion. i had beats tour and beats solo which i think had great bass, this however, had great everything, lows, mids highs just perfect. the clarity of the audio is awesome feels like you hear 5.1 surround. i was listening to new age acoustic and had gotten too relaxed. i fell asleep and woke up the next morning while i still had it on and my ears didn't hurt at all but with beats tour you will feel strain in ear. solo already has weight + batteries so imagine the feel & strain. i listen to a lot of different music and this headset can definitely perform. from john legend to robin thicke. from dj khaleb to waka flaka flame. incubus to red hot chili peppers. from tantric to megadeth. from slipknot to lamb of god. in my opinion it is an ideal headset for a normal listener or to an audiophile like me ( i think). i am more addicted to sound quality now than i was before. i was using my gaming headset 5.1 surround to listen my music audio which was $179 bought this headset at Crutchfield with less cable management ,less weight, very comfortable & has superior audio quality i'm hooked. the clarity of the audio is amazing i'm glad i bought it.
-very clear audio and you do not need to equalize anything just a perfect blend of sound -great lows, mids, highs ... yeah the bass is great! -lightweight -very comfortable -i hear other sounds that i never knew was part of the song very cool! -outside noise is reduced and at low volume you could hear something but muffled of course not unless you're using an in-ear headset.
-discontinued -item is no longer available for purchase

An Audiophile's Best Friend

Written By Rahul, Richmond, Virginia on Monday, August 20, 2012
These headphones are fantastic. For the price point you won't find anything close, period. You will hear sounds in music you've listened to countless times before. The staging and equilazation of music is unreal. A great set of headphones, excellent price, and they look like they're straight out of Tron. Highly recommended. Get ready to have your buddies borrow this one all the time.
Price, weight, comfort factor, impeccable sound quality
