About the Klipsch Reference RF-62 II

Kristen Schaub

Powerful tower speaker performance

The RF-62 II uses newly machined, light-yet-rigid Cerametallic woofers with a folded edge to produce smoother mids and tighter bass. The specially treated aluminum in the cones helps to dampen unwanted vibrations and reduce distortion, while integrated dustcaps add stability. The RF-62 II also has dual five-way binding posts, giving you the option to bi-amp or bi-wire this speaker for even better performance. And the rigid, braced cabinet comes in a handsome woodgrain vinyl finish.

Powerful tower speaker performance

Looking for speakers that deliver the kind of impact and clarity that make you feel like you're right there in the movie or on the stage with your favorite musical artist? Check out the RF-62 II from Klipsch®. This floor-standing tower speaker offers dynamic, full-bodied sound that makes it ideal for larger rooms. Building on Klipsch's previous Reference speaker line, the Series II models have updated drivers and a new crossover system for even more spacious sound. Pick up a pair for stereo music, or use them as your front left and right speakers in a home theater setup.

Grille off

Horn technology for "front row" sound

All Reference Series II speakers feature a redesigned version of Klipsch's famous horn-loaded tweeter. Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn," which disperses the highs evenly across your listening area in a 90°-wide, 60°-high pattern. With their Series II speakers, Klipsch has redesigned the shape and slope of their famous horn enclosure, so your movie soundtracks and music will sound more "open," with improved dynamics and efficiency. All in all, you can count on powerful, "front row" sound that's crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Driver Technology

Highly-Efficient Design: The Klipsch RF-62 II utilizes a highly efficient design to produce more output using less power & energy for louder sound with less distortion. The RF-62 II is able to fill large rooms with outstanding, accurate, non-fatiguing sound that you can listen to for hours.

Tractrix Horn Tweeter: The Klipsch RF-62 II features a professional-grade 1.0-inch titanium-diaphragm compression driver inside a square Tractrix Horn for smoother high-end response with greater extension, enhanced imaging, and more powerful dynamics. The Tractrix Horn delivers a 90-degree wide by 60-degree high dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage. Behind the horn lies a 1.0-inch titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound.

Dual Woofers: The dual 6.5-inch woofers of the RF-62 II feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic cones. Made with an anodized aluminum, these cones are strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts their inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range. The 6.5-inch woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: For signal purity and perfect driver integration, the crossover on the RF-62 II features the finest components and Klipsch custom internal wiring.

Enclosure Design

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The dual 6.5-inch Cerametallic cone woofers and 1.0" titanium diaphragm compression driver are mounted in a Bass reflex enclosure which features dual rear-firing ports. The RF-62 II's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound and dual rear-firing ports to eliminate turbulence noise. A black metallic finished baffle around the horn mouth and dual woofers dramatically improve acoustics across the sonic range. The bass reflex enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with either a Black Ash or Cherry wood-grain vinyl.

Magnetic Grille: The floor-standing loudspeaker features a removable magnetic grille which easily snaps into place over its cast-aluminum front baffle. The speaker can be used with or without its grille in place.

Connections

Dual Binding Posts: The speaker has two sets of binding posts connected by jumpers. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Mounting Options

Feet: The RF-62 II feature two integrated front-feet and two stabilizer rear-feet with rubber bottoms so you can safely place the speaker on your tile or hardwood floors. The Reference RF-62 II also comes supplied with a set of carpet spikes so you can place the speaker comfortably on your carpet. The supplied carpet spikes add approximately 1.0-inch to the height of the speaker. The carpet spikes screw in directly to the bottom of the floor-standing speaker's feet.

Placement: The Reference Series floor-standing loudspeaker is designed to perform well in a wide variety of locations but you will get the most out of the speaker by following these simple guidelines.

  • The speaker requires a few inches of clearance behind it to allow its port to breathe and will sound best when they are at least two feet from any nearby walls.
  • A pair of RF-62 II loudspeakers should be equal distance from the wall behind them. It also helps to have the left and right speakers at different distances from their nearest side walls. This sort of staggering helps smooth the bass range.

Customer Q&A

Q
What is the width of these speakers without the rear feet? Also, mine will sit in a recessed area that won't allow for the rear feet to be extended. Will I need to get some other type of feet to mount on the bottom of the speaker? Thanks.

The width of the speakers is 81/2 inches. I think you can still use the bottom pads without the extender.

A
The width minus the rear feet is the same size as the cabinet. The base is self contained in it's own footprint. I wouldn't trap these in a corner because I bi-wire them and don't use a sub so mine have to breathe for the bass to sound good. If you are using these in a home theater setup you may be able to stuff them into a recess and let a subwoofer do that work. As for the alternate feet for the back, I think you may be able to bolt the feet straight in rather than use the extensions. You get spikes or rubber feet in the box.

Speakers are 8.50" width. Mine are in a house, on carpet. The feet in back make them much more stable. If the speakers are in a place where they will not tip over easily, then I would just leave the feet off.

8-1/2 inches, the feet supplied with the speaker can be mounted on the underside of the speaker without the extension.

I had the same problem. Just turn them so they face backwards, they can be mounted that way. Screw them down tight and your good to go, that's how mine are mounted in the narrow space between the TV stand and the tower. Hope that answers your question.

The tale of the tape on my speakers is 8 & 1/2" wide by 15 & 3/8" deep by 40&1/8" tall. The front feet sit under the cabinet and I think the rear feet could be mounted so that they swivel under the cabinet as well.

thanks gonna try and listen to them some where and compare
dennis  Dec 26, 2013

If you're running a good sub with them, then not that much difference. The RF62s will have more mid bass output at high volumes due to the extra driver. If you're not running a sub then there will be quite a bit of difference. The RF62s have a substantial amount of bass.

Sorry. No idea. I'm old school so probably got them for the size, but I have the room for them and I really like the sound and so do others...
mark  Dec 26, 2013
A
I believe you will get a more full sound out of floorstanding speakers as opposed to bookshelf speakers. What I would recommend is buying the floor speakers and using the RB-61's as surrounds. Then again, from my understanding, unless you are a serious audiophile, you may not notice much of a difference. It really is all about preference. Audition them in store when you can, and in home if at all possible.

Dennis, The RF- 62's have two 61/2 woofers opposed to the one 61/2 woofer of the 61's. I have the tower speakers in front and the bookshelf speakers for the rear. The towers have a fuller sound , but complement each other very well. Hope this helps.
bernard  Dec 26, 2013
A
thanks. it seems from the reviews for the rb61s are not the d same as mine. that the rb61 in my setup are just missing something. I am 69 and hearing is not as good as it used to be . maybe that is the problem
dennis  Dec 26, 2013
A
Since they're of the same line, I wouldn't say they are superior. However, with the RF-62 II will be capable of a lower bass extension, providing a more potent sound. In all other regards, the speakers will be quite similar.
