Dolby Atmos Elevation Speaker: The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-140SA is a Dolby Atmos enabled home theater speaker which adds the Dolby Atmos elevation effect to any existing home theater speaker system to create an atmosphere of rich, detailed sound, or can be used as a surround speaker

Dolby Atmos: Dolby Atmos delivers captivating, object-based sound that places and moves audio anywhere in the room to bring entertainment alive all around the audience. With Dolby Atmos sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, to fill a home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail and depth. Learn more out Dolby Atmos here.

Klipsch Design Philosophy: The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-140S delivers on Klipsch's speaker design philosophy; low distortion, high efficiency, flat frequency response, broad dynamic range, and controlled directivity.

Tractrix Horn Technology: Klipsch Tractrix Horn technology allows the RP-140SA speaker to meet the directivity and sensitivity specifications that Dolby requires for Dolby Atmos enabled speakers. This is what has allowed Klipsch to produce its unique two-way speaker and horn-loaded design, in a Dolby Atmos enabled speaker.

Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-140SA features proprietary Hybrid Tractrix Horn technology coupled with a Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) titanium tweeter to produce the most effective release of sound waves for clean, natural listening experiences. The horn's outer layer is silicone-based rubber, which eliminates resonance of the horn housing, improving detail and resolution. The LTS tweeter ensures minimized distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

  • 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horn: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.
  • LTS Tweeter: Behind the Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Cerametallic Woofer: The 3.5" woofer of the RP-140SA loudspeaker features Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range. The woofer also employs a rubber surround for added durability. A design that when paired with the Tractrix Horn-loaded LTS tweeter combines for incredible high efficiency.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RP-140SA speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

Sealed MDF Enclosure: The Klipsch RP-140SA employs an acoustic suspension enclosure for tight accurate bass. The sealed enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a premium wood-grain polymer veneer and a polymer front baffle. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Magnetic Grille: The Dolby Atmos enabled loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its polymer front baffle.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-140SA is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Mounting Options: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-140SA offers flexibility when mounting the Dolby Atmos enabled speaker.

  • Rubber Feet: The Dolby Atmos enabled loudspeaker features four integrated rubber feet so you can sit the speakers on top of your existing front tower loudspeaker securely. The top of your loudspeaker needs to be flat and measure at least 6.0625" (w) x 11.4375" (d).
  • Wall Mounting: The Klipsch RP-140SA speaker features a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied).

Q
I plan on using these speakers for the rear of my surround sound system. Is there a way to wall mount them close to the ceiling (possibly at an angle) and retain sound quality? My ceiling are lower, about 7.5ft., and I'm trying to keep all of my speakers wall mounted if possible.

Yes you can, It shows in the manual about wall mounting, page 8,

WE PUT OURS ON TOP OF OUR MAIN KLIPSCH FLOOR SPEAKERS TO BOUNCE THE SOUND OFF THE CEILING. THIS IS PERFECT. THEIR SHAPE IS DESIGNED FOR THAT. IF YOU WANT TO HANG THEM, YOU MIGHT ASK THE CRUTCHFIELD TECH FOLKS ABOUT TURNING THEM UPSIDE DOWN SO THE SOUND WOULD STILL BOUNCE OFF THE CEILING, WHICH IS PARAMOUNT. ALSO, IF YOU DO, BE VERY CAREFUL TO DO A VERY STRONG MOUNTING. WE HAVE BIGGER REAR SURROUND SPEAKERS AND I WORRY EVERY TIME OUR GRANDSONS VISIT AND SIT AT THE DINNER TABLE, DIRECTLY UNDER THESE HEAVY SPEAKERS.. THESE KLIPSCH SPEAKERS HAVE DOUBLED OUR APPRECIATION OF OUR ENTIRE SOUND SYSTEM.. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, AS IS CRUTCHFIELD.

These are designed to be hung on the wall. The are drilled with screw holes precisely for this purpose. Mine are mounted 6" from the ceiling. Please be away that they are designed as "height"cleaners. They have a different tonal balance due to the needs of Dolby Atmos.
drew  Jan 20, 2019
A
I mounted mine to the wall at ceiling height using the keyhole mounting that's built into the speaker.
vincent  Jan 19, 2019
A
It's my understanding that these particular speakers only work properly if sitting in top of something so they project the sound up to bounce off the ceiling.

Q
What model will sit on the RP-400F speaker I just purchased? Reference Premiere RP-140SA , R-41SA or RP-500sa

A
I just realized that you may have purchased the RP-4000F floor standing speakers in which case i would go for the RP-140SA. These will fit both acoustically and aesthetically best with the RP-4000F. The RP-140SA will fit nicely on top.
james  Nov 19, 2018
A
I've never heard of the RP-400F, nor can I find a reference to it anywhere. I'm going to guess that if it exists then in is a Reference Premier floor standing speaker based on standard Klipsch naming conventions, Given that assumption i would say you best bet would be the RP-140SA or the RP-500SA as these are the best match for the Reference Premier line. The R-41SA is the standard Reference line and the speakers are of different construction than the RP series and not the best match. I am suspecting you may have confused the last letter of the speakers you just bought and that they are not floor standing speakers and are bookshelf speakers like the RP-400M. in this case I would say the RP-140SA would best fit on top of them. At seven inches wide they would overlap the top of the RP400M speaker surface, though since the Atmos speakers come with rubber feet you can space the feet to allow the RP-140SA to rest on top. Alternately, the RP-140SA has a steel bracket on the back.bottom making them easily wall mountable. Place them high up. Good luck, P.S. I love my RP-140SA Atmos speakers.

I took a look at the spec sheet for your speaker. the are 7.42"W/12.03"D according to Klipsch web site the 550SA, 140SA, 14SA will fit on top.. the 41SA will fit on width, but the depth is 13 inches that will over hang. I hope this helps.

Are there pre-drilled holes in the speakers to hang on walls? Elevation speakers

A
Yes, there is a very well constructed flush metal plate on the back/bottom of each unit. This plate has one centered keyhole shaped hole for hanging on a sturdy screw for a wall mount. It also comes with four quality rubber feet which you can attach for surface mount or wall mount. If I am not mistaken you can see all this in either the photos or the installation manual on the Klipschcom website. I love mine.

There is an open space designed for wall hanging. I put mine on top of the main tower speakers so the sound will bounce off the ceiling and have been very happy with this placement. These speakers are the best purchase in my memory. They have made a major difference in my sound system. Highly recommended. I bought my first Klipsch speakers (KG 2's) decades ago and Klipsch remains my only choice to this day. And, you can't do better than Crutchfield.

18awg should be fine for shorter runs, but in order to minimize losses on longer runs, such as in a distant rear surround speaker you might opt for 16awg. I use quality 16awg for all my speaker runs.
james  Oct 14, 2018

I use the 18awg. Either one is sufficient though

I currently use Monster XP wire which is around the 14-16 AWG. I also used banana plugs, but this size wire will fit under the wire nut, too, if that's what your curious about. Thes speakers are a small load so I'm sure 18 AWG would work fine as well.

Q
I have recently purchased Klipsch RP140 SA Dolby Atmos speaker. I Have presently placed them on a braket mounted on wall while drivers are facing up to ceiling but has only @ 1 meter distance from ceiling to driver is that ok? or do i need to place them on lower position? less than half of height of my wall?
shailesh  Mar 27, 2017

A
I'm using the RP140SA to provide Atmos height for my front Cornwall speakers. However, if I were setting them for rear or surround, I would first determine if a direct sound projection or a reflected sound projection was appropriate for the room size, ceiling height and target location. If reflected sound is desired, I would place them as you have but in order to determine the right placement height you should calculate the appropriate angle and distance to the target listening location...this may require a little trial and error to get it right but it's worth it...good luck and enjoy.

From a installation guidelines I used : "For optimal effect and to minimize direct radiating audio at listener level, place speakers at or slightly above the height of your ears when seated. Avoid placing the speakers higher than one half the height of your wall". I believe the reason is so that the sound can diffuse more evenly. So 1 meter sounds like it will be too high. I have placed mine on top of my 4 ref speakers (front and rear) about 58" from the ceiling. They work great. Hope that helps.
