The Reference Premiere Series difference

Never one to rest on its laurels, Klipsch has been busy refining and improving its designs to create loudspeakers that blow the doors off of its loyal followers' expectations. The new Reference Premiere Series builds on the acoustics and technologies of Klipsch's classic Reference Series, with important enhancements that provide an even more intense listening experience.

Hybrid Horn technology for dynamic performance

Klipsch RP-240S surround speaker

With its two Hybrid Tractrix horns and dual 4" Cerametallic woofers, the RP-240S is built to effortlessly deliver clear, powerful Klipsch sound.

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's newly designed Hybrid Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. Compared to previous Klipsch models, this horn design delivers a wider sweet spot with more precise placement of instruments and vocals. Even the horn material itself has been upgraded to molded silicone rubber that helps decrease resonance for smoother, warmer highs.

High-tech woofer design

The RP-240S's dual 4" Cerametallic™ woofers dish out smooth midrange and articulate, well-defined bass. Klipsch makes its cones out of specially treated aluminum that's strong yet lightweight to dampen and prevent distortion. With the Reference Premiere Series, Klipsch also gave this woofer a newly developed titanium voice coil former that allows more linear movement for enhanced efficiency, lower distortion, and extended low frequency response.

Product Research

Features

Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST): The Klipsch RP-240S delivers precise sonic detail through the careful positioning of two Tractrix Horn loaded titanium tweeters and two 4" woofers. By aligning the two horns at 90° with respect to each other, along with the two woofers, the RP-240S smoothly covers a 180° horizontal arc, allowing maximum placement flexibility. This unique Wide Dispersion Surround Technology delivers a new dimension of reality and convenience, and produces a smooth, seamless broad distribution of sound, which is the perfect vehicle for every surround format.

90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.

LTS Tweeters: Behind each Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Cerametallic Woofers: The dual 4" woofers of the RP-240S surround loudspeaker feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 4" woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RP-240S surround speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies (1700Hz) offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

Sealed MDF Enclosure: The Klipsch RP-240S employs an acoustic suspension enclosure for tight accurate bass. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Magnetic Grille: The surround loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its polymer front baffle.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-240S is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Mounting Options: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-240S offers flexibility when mounting the speaker.

  • Rubber Feet: The surround speaker comes supplied with four self-adhesive rubber feet so you can sit the speakers on a stand or shelf securely. The rubber feet add approximately 0.3125" to the height of the speaker.
  • Wall Mounting: The Klipsch surround speaker features a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied). There is also a 3/8" threaded insert on the back of the speaker for use with 3rd-party wall-mount brackets (sold separately).

Placement: The Klipsch Wide Dispersion Surround Technology surround speakers in a typical 5.1-channel system can be mounted to side or rear walls. It is recommended that the RSP-240S be mounted above the ear height of seated listeners (between 5'-7' above the floor).

Q
Is RP-240s compatible with Yamaha RX-v681 AVR and audiosolutions overture 203 fronts and audiosolutions overture 201 Centre?

A
Thanks for your question. For details on determining compatibility with the Klipsch RP-240S and the rest of your system, I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They can offer more specific information to help you make an informed decision.

Q
Is there a "dead zone" with these speakers? Also if they are mounted in the corner as the design would suggest is possible, do I have to worry about sound deflection? My listening area is open on one side. Would mounting one in the corner and one flat on the wall ruin the sound?
kenny  Jan 05, 2017

A
It is hard for me to answer regarding "dead zone" because your listening hear could be different from mine - but I have loved my Klipsch speakers from the day that I opened up the box. I don't hear any dead spots or the area that I have them in - the sound has been exceptional. I have one of the speakers sitting on a shelf next to stairs leading up to my main level in the house - it is not mounted in a corner and the sound for me has been great. That has been my experience with the Klipsch speakers.

Q
Do I just need to buy one speaker to produce the surround sound effect or I need to set up 5.1 or 7.1?
tim  Oct 06, 2016
3 answers
A
You will need at least 2 rears for the surround effect. 5.1 is center, 2 fronts, 2 rears, and subwoofer. 7.1 is center, 2 fronts, 2 rears, 2 surround, and subwoofer. Either configuration will give you the surround effect.

HI tim, yes i think 5 speaks are perfect for a surround sound, i have 5 anda subwoofer with exilent bass, its my get away system from my world outside,it makes u think your in a private concert.
kennith  Oct 06, 2016
A
If you want a true surround sound you need the whole enchilada - what makes surround sound work is when you hear different sounds from different areas in the room. You hear the speeding car coming from the back speaker and someone talking from the one in front of you. Truly wonderful experience. the bass speakers makes it - I love when it rumbles the seat your sitting in, feels like you are there. The Klipsch speakers are the best - love mine!.
scot  Oct 06, 2016
Q
what is the volume of this product?
tanvirul  May 03, 2016
3 answers
A
The volume is comparable to the output potential of any of the Klipsch Reference Premiere speakers. Even when pairing with the floor standing 250fs, if you turn up the 240s' output on the receiver the speaker can handle it.
nicholas  May 03, 2016
A
Loud when needed, quiet when appropriate
daniel  May 03, 2016

Great volume for these speakers, made the rear of my room come alive
jason  May 03, 2016
Q
How do these work? Are the used rear center? Or so u use them at ear level next to my head? Do I need two or 4 for a rear surround setup? Or just use bookshelf speakers next to my head?
ryan  Jul 29, 2018

A
I use them as the surround speakers in a 5.1 set up. I have them pointing 90 degrees facing the seating area at about 7 ft from the floor which make it 3 feet above ear level. I had to set it that way due to room configuration. They replaced a pair of Bose 151's and what a difference it made. They have greatly expanded the surround experience.
charles  Aug 01, 2018

Excellent and great sounding speakers . I have two of them on each side of our theater chairs. Both at ear level.
jason  Jul 31, 2018

I have 2 240s that I use for rear surround and I have them placed at ear level. They provide a better surround given that they are bipolar. They are awesome
henry  Jul 31, 2018
A
These are designed to be the surrounds in a 5.1 system so they would be placed off the each side of the listening area. If you are using a 7.1 set up with rear speakers I would not use these for the rears. They are specifically designed to be non directional and function best as the surround side speakers. They work great for that. Good luck. Hope that helps.
eric  Jul 31, 2018
Q
I want these for rear speakers where do u mount them? behind or directly across from the sitting area?
joseph  Apr 27, 2018

A
I followed the recommendations in Klipsch's product literature - mine are mounted alongside the seating area, just below the ceiling. I've really enjoyed these!
william  May 01, 2018
A
ideally just behind you on a 45 i have mine above me only place that worked and they fill the room fine.
timothy  May 01, 2018
A
Aloha, I mounted them behind the main listening area.
