The Reference Premiere Series difference

Never one to rest on its laurels, Klipsch has been busy refining and improving its designs to create loudspeakers that blow the doors off of its loyal followers' expectations. The new Reference Premiere Series builds on the acoustics and technologies of Klipsch's classic Reference Series, with important enhancements that provide an even more intense listening experience.

Klipsch RP-250C center channel speaker

With its Hybrid Tractrix horn and Cerametallic woofers, the RP-250C center channel speaker effortlessly delivers clear, powerful Klipsch sound.

Hybrid horn technology for dynamic performance

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's newly designed Hybrid Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. Compared to previous Klipsch models, this horn design delivers a wider sweet spot with more precise placement of instruments and vocals. Even the horn material itself has been upgraded to molded silicone rubber that helps decrease resonance for smoother, warmer highs.

Klipsch RP-250C Tractrix horn port

The RP-250C's Tractrix horn shaped port cuts down on air turbulence, reducing noise and distortion.

A horn that can enhance bass, too

Look around the back, and you'll see that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion.

High-tech woofer design

The RP-250C's Cerametallic™ woofers dish out smooth midrange and articulate, well-defined bass. Klipsch makes its cones out of specially treated aluminum that's strong yet lightweight to dampen and prevent distortion. With the Reference Premiere Series, Klipsch also gave these woofers newly developed titanium voice coil formers that allow more linear movement for enhanced efficiency, lower distortion, and extended low frequency response.

Features

90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.

LTS Tweeters: Behind each Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Cerametallic Woofers: The dual 5.25" woofers of the RP-250C center-channel loudspeaker feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 5.25" woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RP-250C center-channel speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies (1800Hz) offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

Bass Reflex MDF Enclosure: The Klipsch RP-250C employs a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing Tractrix port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. Utilizing Tractrix geometry, the all new Reference Premiere bass port allows for the most efficient, fastest air transfer from the cabinet  for a clean, powerful low frequency response. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Magnetic Grille: The center-channel loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its polymer front baffle.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-250C is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Placement: The RP-250C should be centered directly above or below your video screen. If necessary, you can place the speaker on an optional floor stand in front of and below the screen that elevates it to the correct height. Ideally, however, the speaker's front baffle should be flush with the front of the screen.

  • Rubber Feet: The center channel speaker comes with four self-adhesive rubber feet to secure the speaker in place and prevent any damage to your stand's or shelf's surface. The rubber feet add approximately 0.125" to the height of each speaker.
  • Adjustable Angle: If the center speaker is well above or below the ear height of seated listeners, you can improve performance by angling the center channel slightly to compensate. Included with the speaker is an adjustable foot that you can screw into one of the two threaded inserts on the bottom of the cabinet. To tilt the speaker down, install the foot in the insert near the back of the cabinet; to tilt the speaker up, install the foot in the insert near the front of the cabinet.

Customer Q&A

4 questions already asked

Q
What is the minimum distance from the back of the speaker to the wall? RP-250C has the back firing Tractix port. My entertainment center has shelves 11" deep which leaves 1" before the speaker overhangs the shelf.

Mine sits about 4 inches from a wall. Sound seems to be OK. Not sure how the sound would be affected if the speaker was closer to a wall. I guess is that all you can do is try it out to see if you like what you hear. Good luck.

You should be ok I have two flat against the wall they still sound great My only worry would be having the speaker covered on all sides the air flow could be greatly reduced causing the speakers to fail quicker

Q
I have a Klipsch Quintet speaker system driven by a Yamaha rxv479 receiver. I'm looking for better dialogue. Would the Klipsch rp250c be a good upgrade/replacement to my current (Klipsch Quintet) center channel speaker and compatible with what I have? I would just be replacing the center channel.

Yes, it would be an improvement and should be compatible with your existing system. The sound clarity from this center channel speaker is incredible! We feel totally immersed in what we're watching because we can hear what the subjects are saying, no more: 'what did he say' questions in the middle of the movie. When I get some time, I'm going to re-watch some of the movies I have on DVD to see what I missed. Highly recommended.

Hi, i replaced a quintet center with the rp250c. Dialogue is excellent but a bit bright, you may need to lower the treble. Also keep in mind i am running mine with the 280s and it sounds great, but it may overpower your quintets if those are your other speakers. The 250 also has very good bass response for a center, the port design works extremely well. Hope this helps. Good luck with your purchase....

The only thing I can tell you is that I am satisfied with the 250c. I have an onkyo receiver and the center channel replaced a speaker co. smaller center channel.
richard  Nov 22, 2016

I have the RP-250C as my center speaker and get very realistic sound, especially dialogue. It may have something to do with your receiver, but I love to center speaker and it's dramatic look.

Do not know the power handling capacity of your current system. It they r similar to the Klipsch sub-woofer then you should have no problem with integrating the sub into your system. I bought it and it works wonderfully.

cgm11, the rp250c is probably going to be your best bet if you're trying to improve the center channel of your Klipsch system. You will likely notice that its sound quality is different and much better than the rest of the Quintet speakers, but keeping in the Klipsch family will yield a much closer match than going with a different brand. Over time, consider upgrading the R and L mains of your system to Klipsch Reference-series bookshelf or standing speakers and your Qunitet system could augment nicely as surrounds. You probably don't want to go any higher in quality than the Reference-series for now though, I think the disparity of sound quality might become distracting. But in my opinion, the pr250c is the way to go. I pair mine with my 15-year old Klipsch Reference-series bookshelves and a Yamaha RXV590 receiver and the sound is smooth and rich. Good luck!

I had some hesitation about upgrading my center channel, but I can say with no hesitation that the upgrade was well worth it. I can't speak about the klipsch quintet but I can tell you that the rp250c is awesome. I had no idea what I was missing with my older center channel. I hope this helps.

Q
The placement section describes an "optional floorstand" for the RP-250C. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't seem to find it. Does this optional floor stand have a specific name, product number, sku number, etc? Thanks.

Thanks for your question. The only thing Crutchfield carries that is compatible with this speaker would be the stand listed below. If you have further questions I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_051NFC18B/Sanus-NFC18-Black.html
