The Reference Premiere Series difference

Never one to rest on its laurels, Klipsch has been busy refining and improving its designs to create loudspeakers that blow the doors off of its loyal followers' expectations. The new Reference Premiere Series builds on the acoustics and technologies of Klipsch's classic Reference Series, with important enhancements that provide an even more intense listening experience.

Hybrid horn technology for dynamic performance

Klipsch RP-250F florrstanding speaker

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's newly designed Hybrid Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. Compared to previous models, this horn design delivers a wider sweet spot with more precise placement of instruments and vocals. Even the horn material itself has been upgraded to molded silicone rubber that helps decrease resonance for smoother, warmer highs.

A horn that can enhance bass, too

Look around the back, and you'll see that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion.

High-tech woofer design

The RP-250F's Cerametallic™ woofers dish out smooth midrange and articulate, well-defined bass. Klipsch makes its cones out of specially treated aluminum that's strong yet lightweight to dampen and prevent distortion. With the Reference Premiere Series, Klipsch also gave these woofers newly developed titanium voice coil formers that allow more linear movement for enhanced efficiency, lower distortion, and extended low frequency response.

Build a complete Klipsch system

You can build a great stereo system using a pair of the RP-250Fs, or team them with other Klipsch Reference Premiere speakers and a powered subwoofer for high-impact home theater.

Product Research

Features

90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.

LTS Tweeters: Behind the Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Cerametallic Woofers: The two 5.25" woofers of the RP-250F floor-standing loudspeaker features Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 5.25" woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RP-250F floor-standing speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies (1800Hz) offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

Bass Reflex MDF Enclosure: The Klipsch RP-250F employs a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing Tractrix port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. Utilizing Tractrix geometry, the all new Reference Premiere bass port allows for the most efficient, fastest air transfer from the cabinet  for a clean, powerful low frequency response. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

  • MDF Plinth: The all new satin painted MDF plinth footers of the Klipsch Reference Premiere series floor-standing speakers lend an acoustically sound, authoritative stance when placing the speakers on your wood, tile, or carpeted floors.
  • Magnetic Grille: The floor-standing loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its polymer front baffle.

Dual Binding Posts: The speaker has two sets of binding posts connected by jumpers. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Rubber or Spike Feet: The floor-standing speaker comes with rubber and spike feet. The included rubber feet offer safe placement of the speaker on your tile or hardwood floors. The included optional spikes are intended to increase stability on carpeted floors; spikes are not recommended for hard surfaces. The rubber feet simply stick to the bottom of the speaker's MDF plinth, while the spikes screw into the bottom of the speaker's MDF plinth.

  • The rubber feet add approximately 0.125" of height to the speaker.
  • The spike feet add approximately 0.875" of height to the speaker.

Placement: The Reference Premiere series floor-standing loudspeakers are designed to perform well in a wide variety of locations but you will get the most out of the speakers by following these simple guidelines.

  • For optimum performance, Klipsch suggests placing the speakers 6'-15'apart. They may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging. The listening position should be approximately 1-1.5x the distance separating the speakers.
  • The floor-standing loudspeakers should be equal distance from the floor and the wall behind them. It can also help to have the left and right speakers at different distances from their nearest side walls. This sort of staggering helps smooth the bass range.
  • The speaker requires a few inches of clearance behind it to allow its port to breathe and will sound best when they are at least two feet from any nearby walls.

Q
Hello, I have a vintage Mcintosh MA230 integrated tube amp that only puts out 30w of continuous power. Would this amp pair well with these speakers? Thanks, Jimmy
chi  Sep 16, 2018

A
They are highly efficient but wasn't sure about 30W powering them. I read some reviews and two of them have power similar to yours and said they work great. I would chance it. They are great speakers for the $.
antone  Sep 22, 2018
Q
The details on Crutchfield say that the power of these speakers is 125W (same as RP-260F) but Klipsch website spec sheet says 100W - any clarification?
benjamin  Apr 13, 2017

A
They can handle 125w all day don't worry. These towers fill up the room with full sound. Add at least a 100w sub to compliment the towers for that low end. I cut mine off at 80Hz.
clarence  Apr 17, 2017

The sticker on the back of my speakers say 100 watts.

This is one speaker. While answering this request, I see that they have this speaker on sale (299.99). This is a great deal and no Crutchfield did not ask me to say this. :-). The speakers sound great!

Q
I have an Onkyo RZ 800 with 135W per channel. Would this speaker at 125W hold up at high volume? Should I look for something with more handling capacity?
james  Jun 22, 2016
6 answers
A
James, yes I would look for something with more power to handle 135 watts. The Klipsch 250s are nice, but in my opinion would run hot and wouldn't be able to handle a steady dose @ 135 watts. My Onkyo receiver is rated at 95w and the 250s handle them pretty well. You may consider the Klipsch 280s if you want to stay with this brand. Felix in NY
felix  Jul 08, 2016
A
you'd never be able to stay in the same room withany speaker if you were able to pump 135w into them. these are really efficient speakers so you would never get close to putting all that wattage into them. Go to the next size up if you are worried. All of the Klipsch sound equally superb to me.
ralph  Jun 22, 2016
A
I have these speakers connected to an Onkyo NR3030 (135W per channel) for front reference speakers and they have handled high volume (music and movies) for me with no problem. Great sounding speakers (once worn in) and look great. Hope that helps.
edward  Jun 22, 2016
A
Would check with a Crutchfield rep to make sure your receiver won't over power the 125W speakers My receiver is 100 W and the speakers are fine. Crutchfield rep helped with selecting the right speaker wattage
james  Jun 22, 2016
A
Depends on how loud you normally listen. I have them with a Yamaha Aventage 1050 that's 110 wpc in my HT system. They are very efficient and get to loud levels pretty quickly. -10 db for me is about as loud as I'd ever watch a movie. YMMV.
john  Jun 22, 2016
A
James these speakers are so efficient I doubt if you would use more than a few watts! You would never use 135w watts continuously for any speaker that I know of. I would be more concerned about how clean is that first watt of the onkyo. If you just want loud you will be alright. If you want high quality sound I would look at a different amp. Just my opinion. Good luck. Craig

I have NAD VISO THREE with 50w ×2. Will it sound great with this Klipsch RP-250F?

I have mine connected to a Sansui delivering 30w rms X2 and they sound great. Nice highs and a solid low end.
stephen  Apr 18, 2016
A
I have RP-250F speakers coupled with a 40 wpc Marantz PM5005 and I am familiar with the NAD sound, which is a bit different from the Marantz. The Klipsch speakers are very fine speakers for the price and your 50 wpc NAD will drive them to painful volume levels with ease (unless you live in an auditorium). The sound should be crisper than some speakers, but that helps provide an excellent sound stage and phenomenal transients. I find that the speakers can sound harsh with some CDs that are poorly recorded or mastered. This applies to a lot of rock and pop music. With high quality CDs they will open your ears to a whole new world. Same would apply to vinyl. The only problem you might encounter is if you have a smallish room with hard-surface walls that will reflect (and distort) the great high frequency response of these speakers. That could present a problem for any good speaker, though. Of course, what speaker sounds good to anyone is always quite personal. However, you can confidently give these a try with Crutchfield's great return policy. That's what I did, and my wife really loves them, too! Good luck!
marvin  Apr 17, 2016

You need at least 90 watts per chanel to power these speakers. If not they will be under-powered and you won't hear the full-mid-low range of frequencies these speakers are capable of providing.

most definitely

Q
I wish I could listen to both RP-250F and RP-260F? Did anyone have a chance do listen to both? What were your impressions?
juraj  Feb 09, 2016

A
I listened to the RP-250Fs after following write ups on their performance around mid summer last year. Unfortunately the retailer didn't have the RP-260's available to compare, which for some reason I haven't been able to find many in the northeast that have them on display. Anyhow, the 250s sound extraordinary! My family and I listen to all kinds of music ( R&B, Rock, Hip Hop, and Jazz) and these speakers don't miss a beat with any of these genres. The clarity and tone is clear and tight, there were sounds on some of these songs that I never heard before. Any chance I get, I re-play old cds to really listen to all of the instruments and vocals. My listening area is 30 x 25, and these speakers fit perfectly regarding footprint and sound output. I'm sure the RP-260s sound just as good, but they would've been overkill for my needs.
felix  Feb 12, 2016
A
The 250 is great for a smaller area and the 260 - with more power - for larger rooms . I didn't listen to both, but when I told my Rep what my room size was, he immediately recommended the 250s. They are magnificent speakers - crisp and clean. They replaced a set of Klipsch Heresys that lasted 42 years. Old CDs and DVDs will sound better. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

No...look to the RP280FA reference speakers at Crutchfield (or your favorite store) if you want Klipsch Dolby Amos enabled speakers.

They are very nice sounding, but are just straight speakers. A bass speaker in back and two in front. I believe a Dolby Atmos unit requires an upward pointing speaker,

No. They require the separate atmos speakers that sit on top of them.

Q
Hi, I am looking for a floorstanding speakers that are good at low volume listening. Would these Klipsch RP-250f good at low volume listening at night. Amps to be used will be either Cambridge CXA60 or Musical Fidelity M3i. Do the speakers give me dynamics and extended bass I'm looking for at low volume? Thanks.

A
Big problem with low volume bass. Easily solved by adding a sub woofer. I would listen to Polk and Martin Logan in same price range before I buy
james  Oct 06, 2017
A
The Klipsch RP 250f has not disappointed yet. I have them as my front speakers in my home theater. I had my doubts and thought they wouldn't be loud enough, but anything more would be overkill. They sound great at low volume and at high volume they beg for more power. Good lows, clear mids, and crisp highs. If you want a bit more low end add a powered sub and adjust it accordingly.
