Klipsch RP-HUB1 HD Control Center

The compact RP-HUB1 HD control center and wireless remote are the heart of a Klipsch wireless home theater or stereo system.

Cinema-quality home theater sound without the wires

People ask us all the time about wireless surround sound. Here's a solution we're psyched to offer, from a speaker brand that has a great track record with our customers. Combine the RP-HUB1 HD Control Center with Klipsch's Reference Premiere HD wireless speakers to build a stereo or home theater system that delivers fantastic, room-filling sound. You won't need to run speaker wire behind walls, under carpeting, or across your room.

Hear every detail

Using state-of-the-art WiSA™ wireless technology, this compact system hub transmits high-quality audio at up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution. That means that not a single detail is lost on the way to your speakers. The system even creates its own dedicated wireless network to avoid any interference with your home's Wi-Fi® setup.

How it works

The HD Control Center is the hub of Klipsch's wireless system. Rather than using a traditional receiver or amplifier simply plug all of your source components — DVD or Blu-ray players, cable boxes, game consoles, and network music players — into the hub. Audio signals are streamed to the speakers wirelessly. The hub also receives Bluetooth® signals, so you can pair your compatible tablet or smartphone.

(One important heads-up: You will need AC power for the hub and each speaker in your system.)

Simple setup and expandability

To make setup easy, this system uses a step-by-step menu that will have you up and running within minutes. Plug the hub's HDMI output into your TV, then follow the on-screen guide. A single button on the back of each Klipsch Reference Premiere HD wireless speaker seamlessly pairs it to your HD Control Center. You can start your system off with just a single pair of Klipsch wireless bookshelf or tower speakers for impressive stereo sound, then add to it over time to create a full-blown 7.2-channel home theater system. The Control Center's on-board Dolby® Digital and DTS® decoders ensure you'll hear rich, enveloping surround sound.

Build your system with Klipsch Reference Premiere HD wireless speakers

RP-440WF floor-standing speaker - Spacious, detailed sound and powerful bass make this a formidable wireless speaker.

RP-140WM bookshelf speakers - These compact bookshelf speakers make a great pair for stereo music or for use as wireless surround sound speakers..

Product Research

Features

HD Wireless Control Center: The Klipsch HD Control Center (RP-HUB1) is a high resolution wireless distribution hub that replaces complicated AV receivers and transmits audio wirelessly to Klipsch's Reference Premiere HD Wireless Speakers (sold separately). The HD Control Center creates its own dedicated WiSa (Wireless Speaker & Audio) network independent of your home WiFi to eliminate dropouts and interference caused by bandwidth constraints within your home. The RP-HUB1 can wirelessly transmit up to 8-channels of audio for a wireless 7.1ch home theater system.

Note: The HD Control Center (RP-HUB1) is specifically designed to wirelessly pair with Klipsch's Reference Premier HD Wireless Speakers and is not designed to work with any other brand of speaker.

Reference Premiere HD Wireless System: The complete Klipsch Reference Premiere HD Wireless System consists of the RP-HUB1 HD Control Center, RP-440WF floorstanding speaker, RP-140WM bookshelf speaker, RP-440WC center-channel speaker, and RP-110WSW powered subwoofer (all sold separately). The floorstanding, bookshelf, and center-channel wireless speakers feature a two-way design and utilizes the same driver and horn technology as Klipsch's Reference Premiere series. The wireless powered subwoofer is modeled directly after the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-110SW subwoofer. The Klipsch HD Control Center acts as the system's hub and directs audio wireless to each speaker. All of the Klipsch Reference Premiere HD Wireless System products offer the convenience of WiSa wireless connectivity.

WiSa Wireless Technology: Through the use of state-of-the-art WiSa (Wireless Speaker & Audio) technology, the Klipsch Reference Premiere HD Wireless System delivers unmatched wireless audio performance and ease-of-use. WiSa technology transmits 24-bit audio at sample rates up to 96kHz/second, with robust error recovery for uninterrupted listening enjoyment. With extremely low latency (<5mS) and negligible speaker-to-speaker delay, it offers flawless wired-quality performance and reliability. WiSa technology operates in the relatively unused 5.2 to 5.8 GHz UNII radio frequency spectrum, reliably transmitting uncompressed audio from 2ch stereo to 7.1ch surround, along with system configuration and calibration data. It has a range of approximately 30'.

Simple Wireless Speaker Setup: The Klipsch Reference Premiere HD Wireless System gives you the ability to place speakers anywhere in your room without running speaker wire through walls or under carpet. Klipsch's proprietary Smart Speaker Selector provides a single-button solution on the rear of each speaker that seamlessly makes the connection to the HD Control Center without the need for speaker wire or a complicated AV receiver.

High Res 2.0-7.1ch Audio: The Klipsch Reference Premiere HD Wireless System can deliver 24-bit/96kHz audio in configurations ranging from 2ch stereo to 7.1ch surround sound, supporting both Dolby Digital Plus (7.1ch) & DTS (5.1ch). You can select from a variety of Surround Modes:

  • Direct: All content is decoded and played back in its native format and number of channels (up to 7.1ch).
  • Stereo: Takes any input material and plays it through only the left and right speakers. If the source is not in stereo, a stereo mix will be derived from the input source.
  • All-Channel Stereo: Plays a stereo signal through all speakers in the system. This mode will downmix any surround information to stereo before routing to the speakers (up to 7.1ch).
  • Dolby Pro Logic IIx: Dolby Pro Logic IIx processing is applied to the incoming source with the decoder configured for Movie, Music, or Game. Dolby Pro Logic IIx creates channels for speakers that are not present in the native audio format for up to 7.1ch audio.
  • Dolby Digital EX: Dolby Digital EX processing is applied to the incoming source to create virtual rear channel information for up to 7.1ch. Only valid for system with surround & surround back speakers present.
  • DTS NEO:6: DTS NEO:6 processing is applied to the incoming source with the decoder configured for Movie or Music. DTS NEO:6 creates channels for speakers that are not present in the native audio format for up to 7.1ch audio.

HDMI 2.0 w/ 4K Pass-Through: The Klipsch HD Control Center (RP-HUB1) is equipped with four HDMI 2.0 inputs and one HDMI 2.0 output. The HDMI inputs and output support up to 4K video pass-through and up to 7.1ch Dolby Digital Plus or 5.1ch DTS audio.

  • HDCP 2.2: Only the hub's HDMI 1 input and HDMI output support HDCP 2.2 signal handling, a requirement for 4K Ultra-HD copy-protected content from Ultra HD Blu-ray players, 4K streaming services, and cable/satellite providers.
  • ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature of the hub's HDMI output allows audio to be sent from your ARC-enabled TV to the RP-HUB1 through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to your television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your TV.
  • HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control): HDMI CEC Consumer Electronics Control) allows for shared remote control functionality over HDMI.
  • Standby Pass-Through: The HD Control Center has the ability to pass through video and audio from the last active HDMI input while in standby mode.
Note: 3D video is not supported. The HD Control Center does not feature analog video inputs or outputs.

Digital & Analog Audio Inputs: The Klipsch RP-HUB1 is fitted with both digital and analog audio inputs. The HD Control Center is equipped with two digital inputs; an optical (toslink) digital input and a coax (RCA) digital input. Both digital inputs will accept up to 5.1ch audio (up to 24-bit/96kHz), including Dolby Digital & DTS formats. The unit also features a stereo RCA analog audio input for 2ch analog sources.

Bluetooth Music Streaming: The Klipsch HD Control Center features built-in Bluetooth A2DP technology which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Windows PC/Phone, or Mac computer/laptop. You'll be able to stream stored music or music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device to the Klipsch RP-HUB1. Playback control and song/artist information will still be done from your Bluetooth device.

  • aptX & SBC Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the HD Control Center offers support for the aptX codec for higher quality audio streaming from select Android devices. aptX audio coding technology provides even better sound quality with lossless, CD-quality streaming for compatible aptX-compatible smartphones, like many Android smartphones with OS 4.0+.
  • SSP (Simple Secure Pairing): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled device to the Klipsch RP-HUB1 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the HD Control Center, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. Only one device can be connected and played back at a time.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Klipsch RP-HUB1.

Audio Adjustments: The Klipsch HD Control Center offers several audio adjustments to make sure the system sound its best in your room and for your application.

  • Speaker Calibration: Right out of the box, the Klipsch RP-HUB1 is acoustically matched to all speakers in the Klipsch Reference Premiere HD Wireless System, You can manually customize the output level of each individual speaker and determine the distance of each speaker in the room from your primary listening position, if you desire a more tailored sound.
  • Subwoofer EQ: You will need to indicate subwoofer placement (All, Corner, or Other) in order to optimize its performance. You can also activate a Low-Volume Bass Boost to enhance bass dynamics and richness and lower listening volumes.
  • Listening Modes: Choose between three Listening Modes - Natural (default/normal), Dialog (increases vocal clarity), or Night (compressed dynamic range).
  • Lip Sync Delay: The HD Control Center is able to compensate for synchronization issues between audio and video by allowing you to adjust the audio delay.

On-Screen Menu & Front-Panel Display: The HD Control Center features a front-panel display which indicates source input & volume level. You can adjust the brightness level of the front-panel display. The RP-HUB1 also features an On-Screen Menu for system setup & audio adjustments. You can choose between English, French, or Spanish text.

Remote Control w/ IR Input: In addition to basic top-panel controls (Power, Source, Volume, Mute), the RP-HUB1 comes with an IR remote for full wireless operation of the HD Control Center.

Power Save Mode: The HD Control Center will automatically revert to standby mode after approximately 30 minutes of inactivity in order to conserve energy.

Firmware & Software Updates: Once you register the Klipsch Reference Premiere HD Wireless System, Klipsch will offer free firmware & software upgrades which can be downloaded from their website onto a USB thumbdrive and inserted into the HD Control Center's USB "Service Port". As a result, you can stay current with the latest Klipsch technologies while expanding your system over time.

Q
Does it work with other brands' WiSa speakers like Bang & Olufsen Beolab 20s??
landy  Nov 15, 2017
1 answer
A
I don't have experience with that brand and model, however, as long as ithe speakers are Wisa certified, they should work.

Q
Can someone tell me SOME way to pass 4K HDR video to my Sony 4K HDR tv and the sound to the Klipsch Hub? Iâ??m now struggling with this setup with an Apple TV 4K. To get 4K hdr video content I have to connect the Apple TV to the Sony TV directly via hdmi and then route the audio back to the Klipsch Hub via optical. Obviously this limits my sound options. Help? Any suggestions are welcome. Even adding an additional receiver or device.
mark  Nov 01, 2017
1 answer
A
You should be able to send a full (non-compressed) 5.1 audio signal from your Sony TV to the Klipsch HUB via the HUB's HDMI-ARC output (audio return channel). This feature allows audio to be sent from your ARC-enabled TV to the RP-HUB1 through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to your television. That way you can enjoy HDR video content with components connected directly to your TV; and still listen to surround sound audio on your Klipsch HD wireless system. For more details or to discuss further, please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks!

Q
Any advice on how to optimally set up this system? I just set it up and I'm not too impressed with the overall power of the system. Sound quality and ease of setup are very good, just no oomph. Also it seems like Klipsch has no intention of upgrading the software which has very little customization, given that the firmware is from May 2016.

Not sure what "oomph" you might be expecting. Could the acoustics of your listening space be an issue? I get all the oomph I can stand at partial volume, but our acoustics are excellent.

I use this system in a house in UT, built with no basement and no easy way to wire speakers. Same experience, system does not have as much window shaking power as a wired system with a high quality receiver. But, if you have the wireless sub that will help, and there are adjustments that can be made to the hub settings that should also help. I can't tell you which to adjust, I am traveling and have no access to the Hub but I have been able to get enough sound and low freq to irritate the folks next door if I don't watch the volume at night. Also, if you are using 5.1, program rear speakers as side speakers to get the right signal to rear speakers. If you are not using towers for front speakers, changing to towers will also help. Good luck.

Does this hub allow expandability into a multi-room system, or is this primarily just a single room home theater system?
ara  Aug 01, 2017

A
As far as I know, one room up tp 7.1. I also would like to do additional speakers in another area but need to talk to Klipsch. My setup now is 5.1 in one room and works well.
allen j  Aug 03, 2017
A
No. The hub is intended for a single room setup only.

Q
Does this system have a headphone 'out' jack of any size? Or perhaps wireless headphone 'out'? Thanks in advance....

A
The Hub does not have any output Jacks other than one Output to TV HDMI. I don't have wireless headphones and so don't know if the Klipsch wireless headphones would work with the RP-HUB1 HD Control Center. The Crutchfield tech support folks should be able to find that out for you.
john  Mar 25, 2017
A
This does not have a external jack , or wireless headphone jack.
carlos  Mar 25, 2017
A
Sorry -- No. The Klipsch Hub consists mainly of several inputs. The only output port is HDMI 2.0 and this port is intended for your video system.
wayne  Mar 25, 2017
A
There is no output headphone jack on the hub. It's Bluetooth connect is an excellent input connection but am not aware of its utility for wireless output. D
douglas  Mar 24, 2017

The only output on the unit is an HDMI output that could go to your TV. No headphone jack.

No but it does have Bluetooth so I listen to Spotify from my iPhone or iPad... the system Is crazy! Buy it...seriously. I've had Mine 9 months and it's amazing... towers plug into a wall outlet(protected) as does the sub...didn't buy the bookshelf speakers ...so 2 towers and a sub... blows up my place

Q
Can you use this hub and wireless system in conjunction with a traditional wired system? I have a Dennon Receiver and Definitive Technology Towers that I don't want to give up, but want to add additional speakers to the system via wireless.
james  Sep 03, 2016
2 answers
A
This is how I use the hub. My older Denon receiver (4806) has RCA pre-amp outputs for surround speakers. I've connected that surround output to the analog input on the hub, and then use the hub to drive two of the wireless Klipsch speakers for the surround channel, while retaining my wired speakers for the front and center channels.
richard  Mar 24, 2017
A
I have not tried this myself, yet, but the only way I have been able to think of trying is to route output from your existing receiver into the hub, which accepts 4 HDMI, 1 Coaxial, 1 Optical and one AUX inputs. I do not know if that would introduce latency into the sound generation but that is the only thing I can think to try.
john  Sep 06, 2016
Q
I'd like to buy the hub and the Klipsch RP floor speaker as i transition away from my Sony home theater. In the meantine I plan to just use Klipsch for music without TV. I plan to connect my Mac/iphone via HDMI cable and HDMi adapter. Does that result in audio quality loss? Is bluetooth connection better?

I've only played music via Bluetooth. Sounds great. Easy to set up and control what you're listening to, even from another room.

Hello, AnnaPav. I have the Klipsch hub and a 5.1 wireless configuration of speakers. I have tested both the latest iPhone and Android-based Samsung devices with the Bluetooth audio, and I find both devices produce excellent audio with the Klipsch gear. In particular, most Samsung devices produced after 2013 include the aptX audio standard for Bluetooth. The Klipsch hub supports aptX too. The result is CD-quality audio over the Bluetooth connection. Apple iOS devices do not yet support aptX, but I find the audio over Bluetooth to be near CD quality in any event. I have not tried to connect Mac/PC audio to the hub via HDMI, but I would expect the quality to be excellent. The HDMI standard is built, in part, around high-end digital audio for video content, so I can't imagine that it would fail to provide excellent two-channel audio (provided the hub does the digital to analog conversion and not the Mac/PC or the iPhone). I find that the hub is about three years behind current audio codecs for movie soundtracks. I hope Klipsch will "catch up" to current standards (and include Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio) in future firmware upgrades for the hub. For two-channel audio, the hub does a respectable job now. ...hope this helps.
wayne  Aug 28, 2016
A
I have only connected my iPhone to the klipsch control module with Bluetooth and the quality is good for both music and audiobooks. Don't have any experience connecting my Mac to the system with hdmi. However, hdmi is specifically designed to provide best quality video and audio.

I am using my hub as a stereo amp. I am not hooked up to my TV. As far as I can tell you don't loose anything. I have mine hooked up to my iMac. Works great.
joe  Aug 28, 2016

I haven't noticed any sound quality loss using HDMi or Bluetooth. If there is, it's not really obvious. Works great with either connection

Q
It appears that this system does not support the typical Blu-Ray sound encoding - Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. Does that mean you need a Blu-Ray player that will do the decoding and output PCM to this system?
patrick  Jul 20, 2016
4 answers
A
Hello, Patrick. At the present time, the Klipsch hub does not decode high definition digital signals like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. The hub relies on the decoding facilities built into high-end BluRay players (like the Oppo); it will direct the PCM output to the appropriate channels (depending on your configuration: 5.1 or 7.1). It is my understanding that Klipsch may offer HD decoding in its hub at a future date (along with Dolby Atmos), but the current model is limited to: Dolby PLIIx Movie/Music, Dolby EX, DTS Neo:6 Cinema/Music, Direct, All-Channel Stereo, and Stereo. I consider the absence of high definition decoding in the Klipsch wireless system to be a serious flaw in an otherwise fantastic system. I remain hopeful that Klipsch will correct this oversight in the near future with either a firmware update or a replacement hub.
wayne  Jul 24, 2016
A
Patrick, I am sorry that I can't answer your question. I am using the RPHub as a stereo. I don't have it hooked up to my TV. Sorry, Joe
joe  Jul 21, 2016
A
Yes. The processed stream will pass through to the system.
brian  Jul 20, 2016
A
Ive had the system for a couple months and hooked up a very cheap less than $100 Sony Blu-Ray player and have had no issues with sound playback. I have the hub hooked into an optoma projector and have used a Roku stick, PlayStation, x-box, blu-ray and even a raspberry pi hooked In thru hub with zero issues with sound playback. Bluetooth function also works. In addition I also have used a Logitech harmony universal control and the hub is supported. I'm very happy with system except for the subwoofer is area of weakness for me. The sub is a little understated for me but those that have come for a movie night are impressed so could just my ears being picky.

Q
does the control unit support HDMI - ARC?
holger  Jun 15, 2016

Absolutely: "ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature of the hub's HDMI output allows audio to be sent from your ARC-enabled TV to the RP-HUB1 through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to your television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your TV. " You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the Hub's main webpage. I hope that helps! Q
HDMI upgrade - will the unit also support HDMI 2.0a?
holger  May 24, 2016
1 answer
A
We have not done any testing to see if this will support HDMI 2.0a (latest HDR format support). Given its recent release to the market and that Klipsch only rates it for HDMI 2.0, I do not expect it to support 2.0a. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
so would this replace the traditional receiver as my Blu-Ray and DVR player would be connected via HDMI to the Control Center?
holger  Feb 17, 2016
1 answer
A
That's correct; rather than using a traditional receiver or amplifier, you'll plug all of your source components - DVD or Blu-ray players, cable boxes, game consoles, etc. - into the Klipsch RP-HUB1 HD Control Center. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159
