Horn technology for dynamic performance

The RS-400 uses horn-loaded tweeters. Flared openings in the enclosure project high frequencies toward your listening area and prevent sound waves from simply spilling out in all directions. This horn design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound.

Features

Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST): The Klipsch RS-400 delivers precise sonic detail through the careful positioning of two Tractrix Horn loaded titanium-diaphragm tweeters and two 4-inch woofers. By aligning the two horns at 90° with respect to each other, along with the two woofers, the RS-400 smoothly covers a 180° horizontal arc, allowing maximum placement flexibility. This unique Wide Dispersion Surround Technology delivers a new dimension of reality and convenience, and produces a smooth, seamless broad distribution of sound, which is the perfect vehicle for every surround format.

  • Tractrix Horn Tweeters: The RS-400 utilizes dual Tractrix Horns for a more genuine, lifelike sound. The square Tractrix Horns deliver a 90° wide by 60° high dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage. In addition, behind each horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a powerful neodymium magnet motor structure to provide a unique combination of precision, clarity and effortless dynamics.
  • Cerametallic Woofers: The dual 4" woofers of the RS-400 surround loudspeaker feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 4" woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Klipsch Horn Technology: Klipsch employs Horn Technology to deliver these four principles of great sound.

  • High Efficiency: Klipsch speaker employs horn technology because the horn shape is perfect for accurate and dynamic sound transmission. Greater efficiency means lower distortion, which means maximum realism.
  • Dynamic Range: Klipsch horn technology reproduces the softest sounds with remarkable clarity and detail and the loudest sounds with no harshness or distortion.
  • Controlled Directivity: Unique Klipsch horn technology means speakers that more accurately direct sound and offer a more lifelike soundstage.
  • Flat Frequency Response: Klipsch horn technology delivers exactly the sound the artist intended, with no unnatural highs, mids, or lows.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The dual 4" Cerametallic cone woofers and dual 1" titanium diaphragm compression drivers are mounted in a bass reflex enclosure which features two side-firing ports (one one each side). The twin side-firing ports eliminate turbulence noise, while increased baffle ribbing around the horn mouth dramatically improves acoustics across the sonic range. The bass reflex enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a Matte Black vinyl and an aluminum front baffle. The RS-400's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch RS-400 is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire (up to 10AWG).

Mounting: The Klipsch RS-400 features a back-panel keyhole slot for on-wall mounting and dual 1/4"-20 threaded inserts for attachment to popular adjustable wall/ceiling brackets and 3rd-party stands (sold separately). The speaker also come supplied with four self-adhesive rubber feet so you can sit the speaker on a stand or shelf securely. The rubber feet add approximately 0.3125" to the height of the speaker.

Placement: The Klipsch Wide Dispersion Surround Technology surround speakers in a typical 5.1-channel system can be mounted to side or rear walls. It is recommended that the RS-400 be mounted above the ear height of seated listeners (between 5' to 7' above the floor).

Customer Q&A

2 questions already asked

Q
which wall/ceiling mounts work best with this speaker?

A
I mounted mine on drywall walls using a single pan head screw each using the keyhole mount at the top rear of the speaker. One of them was into a handy stud behind the drywall, the other alas had no stud at the appropriate distance, so I used a screw-in zinc drywall anchor and I have had no problems. Because of the protrusion distance of the keyhole mounting plate, it is necessary to put the stick-on plastic/rubber feet on the back of the speaker - the friction additionally makes sure that there is no slip'n'slide side to side. Also, when mounted this way, the connection posts are close enough to the wall so that speaker cable terminated with regular banana plugs cannot be used - you need spades or pins. (or bare wire if you just don't care!)

Unfortunately, I am the wrong person to answer this question. I have a seven speaker set-up and this speaker is used in the middle between the front and rear speakers. Since m room is open on one side and a patio door on the other, I have them mounted on speaker stands which works quite well for me.

A
It has mounting holes on the back that you just use screws in the wall to hold it up. No Extra brackets needed.
mike  Jun 05, 2014
A
3" wood screw in the wall about 6" down from ceiling
mike  Jun 05, 2014
A
These have a keyhole type hanger on back. This works just fine with a sturdy screw in the wall with an anchor or directly into a stud.

Klipsch rs-400 surround speakers very great. I think it's money well spent '
brett  Jun 05, 2014

Chris, the speaker comes with holes for mounting already. There is no need to buy brackets of any sort. Just hang it up on a strong nail as they have some weight to them
steve  Jun 05, 2014
A
You can use a wall anchor and a screw to hang this speaker on the wall since it has a keyhole on the top rear of the speaker. Since the keyhole is on the top rear of the speaker, I had to place a small piece of wood on the bottom rear to keep the speaker straight.along the wall.

not sure what you are looking for but, yes I have this pair of speakers and I have them at ear height siting on the couch. the wedge shape gives you all the effects you could ever ask for

The Pinpoint AM24 bracket offers multiple wall-mounting options for traditional satellite speakers. And hold 12 pounds, these speakers weight is 11.9 pounds, it feet and make the mount practically invisible.

I didn't mount my klipsh RS400 on the wall or ceiling. Instead I bought the stands so the speakers themselves are about ear height. THEY ARE AWESOME!!! And oh I used a bit of Velcro on the bottoms of the speakers so they don't slide or move.
wayne  Jun 05, 2014
A
Honest I had ordered it for my surrounds, but they r too heavy to mount on my drop ceiling.. So I tried it for my front left and right.. And.. Am loving it.. Have it placed on the top of the unit.. No brackets/stands.
cyril  Jun 05, 2014

I purchased 2 sets of these, one set (R &L rear channel) I used the provided wall mount. For the 2nd set (R & L rear wide channel) I modified a set of ceiling mounts I had purchased from Best Buy years ago and attached them to the speakers using the two threaded holes on the backside of the speaker.
