Lifelike sound = a more engaging home theater experience

It's funny, but the better a surround speaker is, the less you notice it. Klipsch's RS-52 II features an angled driver design that spreads ambient effects over a diffuse soundfield, completely enveloping you. This design helps this speaker produce great sound even if you place it in a less-than-ideal location. Building on Klipsch's previous Reference speaker line, the Series II models have updated drivers and a new crossover system for even more spacious sound. Hear movie sountracks live and breathe, from soft sounds like falling rain to the roar of a dragon swooping overhead. Plus, the stylishly curved grille gives it a low-profile look in the back of your room.

Horn technology for "front row" sound

grille off

All Reference Series II speakers feature a redesigned version of Klipsch's famous horn-loaded tweeter. Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn," which disperses the highs evenly across your listening area in a 90°-wide, 60°-high pattern. With their Series II speakers, Klipsch has redesigned the shape and slope of their famous horn enclosure, so your movie soundtracks and music will sound more "open," with improved dynamics and efficiency. All in all, you can count on powerful, "front row" sound that's crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Check out the rest of our Klipsch lineup, and build a complete Reference Series II home theater system. And don't forget to add a Klipsch subwoofer for high-impact bass.

Great surrounds

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are the end of my upgrade itches. This was to upgrade my 3.0 to a 5.0 (RF-82 L/R and RC-35 center). When I was running cables for these (before arrival), I used some standby bookshelf speakers to help determine how far off center to have these on my back wall for a 5.0 setup. I could tell 1) I had been missing a huge amount of immersion due to not having the surround content around me, and 2) I was able to exactly pinpoint the speaker location to where it sounded a bit artificial. Once the RS-52s were up, I found that I love the design of the two speakers on one. I also really like the look of these, and hate the look of the models before and after (I like the rounded grill). Listening to these, I had direct sound, and the reflections off the side wall to where I could not precisely locate the sound, but it wrapped around me. They are hefty to have some good output, but light enough not to be too concerning. I am looking forward to the many movies to come in the next few weeks that will highlight these biggies.

Pros: Hefty, but still light enough. Looks nice, as large as they are. Fantastic sound Matches my fronts (RF-82) perfectly

Cons: Large (whadya expect?!)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It has been about 2 months and I have finally got all speakers hooked up.

System is as follows. Yamaha RX-A1020 (Crutchfield) 2 X Klipsch RF-52 II Floorstanding Speaker (a different retailer) 1 X Klipsch RC-52 II Center Speaker (another retailer) 4 X Klipsch RS-52 II Surround Speaker (Crutchfield) 1 Technics 110 disk cd player (18+ years old) 1 Technics SH-GE70 Graphic EQ (used for light show more then anything else) 1 Samsung BD-F7500 3D BluRay player 1 BenQ W1070 3D projector 1 SVS 12" Sub Room size is 22 feet long 11 feet wide and 10 foot ceilings Surround speakers were placed at about 6' from the floor. First movie I watched was The latest Star Trek movie. The sound from all speakers were beyond my wildest dreams. You can actually her the rear surround speakers compared to my old Onkyo with a full Bose acoustimass setup these speakers will rock your world. In my case it made me jump in my seat as when the klingons fired on the away teams ship the sound came from the rear to the front of the room and I literally jumped in my seat. The old Bose never gave me that feeling. I wish I would have done this years ago. My setup now feels and sound in my opinion better then going to the theaters.

Pros: Artie from Crutchfield was way more help them what I got from Klipsch customer service read my cons below. .

Cons: One thing I was wearry about thought is I contacted Klipsch customer service and they were no help at all. They pushed me on to the dealers. I sent them an email stating my room dimensions and asked what would be the best way to go as I did not want to over buy speakers but I also did not want to under buy speakers. It did upset me that they would not answer the question or at least try to guide me in any way. Shame on Klipsch. I was just trying to not get bent over on my purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Before I purchased these surround speakers as replacements in for my 5.1 setup, I had no idea that how much I was missing in the lower frequency range. I had always assumed that the rear channel didn't put out anything below the upper mid-range.

Pros: Great sound High Efficient Aesthetically Sound

Cons: None

Driver Technology

Highly-Efficient Design: The Klipsch RS-52 II utilizes a highly efficient design to produce more output using less power & energy for louder sound with less distortion. The RS-52 II is able to fill smaller rooms with outstanding, accurate, non-fatiguing surround sound that you can listen to for hours.

Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST): The Klipsch RS-52 II delivers precise sonic detail through the careful positioning of two Tractrix Horn loaded titanium-diaphragm tweeters and two 5.25-inch woofers. By aligning the two horns at 90 degrees with respect to each other, along with the two woofers, the RS-52 II smoothly covers a 180-degree horizontal arc, allowing maximum placement flexibility. This unique Wide Dispersion Surround Technology delivers a new dimension of reality and convenience, and produces a smooth, seamless broad distribution of sound, which is the perfect vehicle for every surround format.

Tractrix Horn Tweeters: The RS-52 II utilizes dual Tractrix Horns for a more genuine, lifelike sound. The Tractrix Horns deliver a 90-degree wide by 60-degree high dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage. In addition, behind each horn lies a 1.0-inch titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound.

Cerametallic Woofers: The dual 5.25-inch woofers of the RS-52 II surround loudspeaker feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 5.25-inch woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RS-52 II's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

Enclosure Design

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The dual 5.25-inch Cerametallic cone woofers and dual 1-inch titanium diaphragm compression drivers are mounted in a bass reflex enclosure which features two side-firing ports (one on each side). The twin side-firing ports eliminate turbulence noise, while increased baffle ribbing around the horn mouth dramatically improves acoustics across the sonic range. The bass reflex enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a Matte Black vinyl and an aluminum front baffle. The RS-52 II's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Magnetic Grille: The surround loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its cast-aluminum front baffle. The speaker can be used with or without its grille in place.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Series RS-52 II is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Mounting Options

Rubber Feet: The surround speaker comes supplied with four self-adhesive rubber feet so you can sit the speakers on a stand or shelf securely. The rubber feet add approximately 0.3125" to the height of the speaker.

Note: There are also two 1/4"-20 threaded inserts on the back of each loudspeaker for mounting the speaker to third-party stands (sold separately). The two threaded inserts are spaced 3.0" apart.

Wall Mounting: The Klipsch Reference surround speaker features a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied).

Placement: The Klipsch Wide Dispersion Surround Technology surround speakers in a typical 5.1-channel system can be mounted to side or rear walls. It is recommended that the RS-52 II be mounted above the ear height of seated listeners (between 5 to 7 feet above the floor).

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

I don't know where to start. I have seen these speakers on stand and I have to say the stand idea may work for you but in the end you probably will not get the sound quality you would hope for. Ideally surround speakers are best at 5-6 feet from the floor and slight angle downward. If it were me in your situation I would probably go with just the front 3 speakers and maybe a sub. The front 3 speakers I use from Klipsh the 52 II series are going to knock your socks off. At least they did mine. [ Jessie  Apr 18, 2014 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the speaker stands available and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Jeff  Jan 20, 2014 ]  Staff
