Klipsch WA-2

Overview

Our take on the Klipsch WA-2

Connect your Klipsch powered subwoofer to your sound system wirelessly

Put your Klipsch subwoofer anywhere you want with the WA-2 wireless subwoofer kit. This simple, two-piece plug-and-play kit adds wireless audio capability to select Klipsch subwoofers in seconds. Plug your sub into a nearby wall outlet, connect the small wireless receiver to the proprietary "WA Port" on the back of the sub, connect the transmitter to your receiver and power, and you're done. The transmitter sends wireless audio signals from your receiver to the sub, so you won't have to worry about running interconnect cables across your floor.

I was surprised that it was so easy to install and sounds great

Great Product!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was a little concerned purchasing a wi-fi device because I thought it might introduce some lag getting the signal into the sub. Wrong. This works great. Took less than five minutes to set up. Sub is about 12' from the tuner and have not noticed any dropouts or conflicts with existing wi-fi network on 2.4 and 5GHz. Paired it with SW-112 sub and Sherwood R-925.. Not having to run a cable across the room is a huge plus. Not all Klipsch subs support the WA-2, so do your homework before purchasing. I would recommend this product!

Pros: Easy to set up. No wires! Mounts directly to back of sub.

Cons: None.

Works perfect, and solved my ground loop hum issue... Also allows for clean install / less exposed wires. I have it connected to a R-115SW sub-woofer and Yamaha RX-A3050. My transmitter is in very close proximity to the sub so I can't say how well this works if your sub is far away.

Pros: No wires Eliminated interference I had with wired connection Easy Install Attaches nicely to the back of the R-115SW with preexisting screws

Cons: Can't think of any

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased my subwoofer with the intent to connect via wire but this became a real problem as I am trying to hide cables. I noticed that Klipsch offered a wireless solution so I ordered the WA-2 module and it works flawlessly. This is a must have for any sub that accepts this component.

Pros: Very easy to install and works great. This unit also eliminates unsightly cables.

Cons: None

Sound without wires

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Once I got 2 of these set up with my 2 10" subs I was completely surprised at how well they work.

Pros: This unit makes for a very easy install works great 99% of the time.

Cons: I did find that the frequency they use is the same as my microwave that is 20 or so feet away, as a result when the microwave is being used I get random base notes coming from the subs. I wish you could choose from a couple different frequencies. It's an issue I can live with.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I hired an installer to set up my home theater system. He was skeptical about buying a wireless subwoofer audio kit because he said that he had had trouble with a number of generic kits; he said that they frequently picked up electronic interference. This one has worked fine. Really glad I got it because it eliminates a lot of wires running through the room and I can change the location of the subwoofer easily without trouble. A good buy.

Pros: Convenience to locate a subwoofer.

Cons: none

Great Wireless Option

Written by: JoeB from Arizona on December 17, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this because I wanted to add a second sub to fill in some bass nulls in a large great room/media room. I have a tiled floor so running additional wiring wasn't an option. I was hesitant of getting anything wireless to run sound, but I have to say this has worked exactly as advertised. Hookup was straightforward, but I did get a "real" LFE sub cable to go from the amp output to the WA-2 wireless transmitter...the one provided is just a low grade RCA. So far I've had no issues with this interface; I have two SW-112's run off a "Y" adapter to my Denon 3805's LFE output, one is hard wired to the front sub, the second run to the transmitter and sent to the back of the room sub. Both subs seem to need the same threshold of music input (admittedly a bit more than I'd like) to turn on in the automatic mode, so I haven't noticed any difference between the performance on the hard wired sub versus the WA-2 remote unit.

Pros: Flexibility of subwoofer in-room placement! This is a KEY to addressing room nulls for bass response.

Cons: Limited compatibility options.

No subwoofer wires

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great buy, I put my subwoofer around the room until I found the correct spot that sounded best. Not having to worry about connected up a cable of different lengths not only was less unsightly with not wire, but also gave me the freedom to put it away from the TV surround sound receiver in a better hidden location. Seem to work great and easy to install, just connect and push a few buttons.

Pros: easy to use, sounds great

Cons: more costly than a subwoofer cable

Klipsch rocks - but be careful on this!

Written by: KW from Tampa, FL on August 15, 2013

Klipsch, in my opinion, is the best of the best - you cant beat it with the price levels I play in $500 to $7k.... Here is the trick - THIS wireless kit WILL NOT WORK on any sub that does not have the PROPRIETARY WA port....!! I didnt read that closely enough - and it could have been stressed more - if you have a sub like mine that only has a normal speaker connection - this wifi kit cant plug in to it... Klipsch is still king... i just wish they made this to service all subs and not just the ones they sell with some funny connector.

Pros: Klipsch Rocks

Cons: This kit does NOT connect to all subwoofers - just theirs that have a fancy pants extra WA connector.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit is made up of a transmitter and a receiver module, as well as a power cable for the transmitter. Setup was very simple on the sub end. Simply plug the wireless receiver in to the connector (looks like an old S-Video connector) on the sub and you're done. The wireless module is powered by the sub. On the other end (in my case a Yamaha RX-A1020 receiver) it's a little tricky because the audio connector cable is quite short. If the wireless transmitter sits on top of the receiver, it's about halfway back and does not reach the front. This isn't an issue in practice because the signal seems strong enough to pair perfectly with the sub, even though my receiver is partially enclosed in a built-in cabinet. Line of sight is not required. This module requires an included power cable, which only makes sense. Pairing the wireless connection didn't work on the first try. Pairing requires pressing both units' reset buttons simultaneously. Depending on the distance involved, this can be a two-person job. Not a big deal but after one cycle the pairing worked and continues to work each time we power off / power on the system. Don't be confused by the instructions referring to red LEDs on the unit, either - they are green and only green.

Pros: Flawless sound Steady, stable connection Gives you lots of flexibility in your system setup with no wiring hassles

Cons: No real cons

Easy to set up and love the fact that I can place my sub anywhere in the room without running a cable. This made it easy to determine the best spot from an appearance and sound quality perspective.

Pros: Convenience

Cons: Concerned about the difference in sound quality versus wired, but I haven't notice any yet.

Features

Overview: The Klipsch WA-2 wireless subwoofer kit is designed to add simplistic wireless capability to select powered subwoofers. The Klipsch WA-2 wireless subwoofer kit consists of two components; a wireless Transmitter & wireless Receiver. The WA-2 wireless subwoofer kit makes adding a powered subwoofer to a new or existing speaker system much easier, because it replaces the need for a separate subwoofer cable that traditionally must be connected between the receiver and the powered sub. Now, you can easily place your powered subwoofer where it both sounds and looks best in the room since you're not restricted by an audio cable.

Compatibility: The Klipsch WA-2 wireless subwoofer kit  is compatible with select Klipsch, Energy, Mirage, and Jamo brand powered subwoofers that have a "WA-Port" on the rear-panel. Compatible subwoofer includes (as of 7/24/2012):

  • Klipsch: SW-110, SW-112, SW-115, SW-308, SW-310, & SW-311
  • Energy: ESW-M6 & ESW-M8
  • Mirage: MM-6, MM8
  • Jamo: Sub 800

Note: Up to four WA-2's can be used simultaneously.

Wireless 2.4GHZ Communication: The Klipsch WA-2 wireless subwoofer kit (WA-2) operates wirelessly over the 2.4GHz frequency range with a wireless transmission range of up to 50'. Because of its advanced automatic channel selection technology, the WA-2 wireless subwoofer kit does not interfere with, nor has interference from any other wireless systems in your home (such as your wireless network or wireless phone system).

Automatic Pairing: The two-piece kit, composed of a transmitter and a receiver, conducts a simple automatic pairing process that syncs the transmitter and receiver the first time they are used; after that, your compatible powered sub is automatically activated when ready for use.

Two-Piece Kit: The Klipsch WA-2 wireless subwoofer kit consists of two components; a wireless Transmitter & wireless Receiver.

  • Wireless Transmitter: The wireless Transmitter is fitted with stereo RCA jacks that connect to your home theater receiver's LFE/subwoofer output port (via the included 15" audio cable; Y-adapter maybe required). You will also need to connect the Transmitter's external power supply to an AC wall outlet for power.
  • Wireless Receiver: The wireless Receiver features a proprietary 4-pin connector which plugs into the "WA-port" of your compatible powered subwoofer. There are two keyhole slots on the wireless Receiver which allows you to mount the unit to the back of your powered sub. The proprietary 4-pin "WA-port" connector provides audio signal to your powered sub and power for the wireless Receiver.

Gain Control: The transmitter's input gain control compensates for varying output levels of different home theater receivers, allowing maximum performance with any system.

I have a pair of Klipsche RF-280F speakers that I recently bought along with a Denon AVR-5200W Receiver from Crutchfield. The remaining speakers I am ordering fill out a 5.1 system. The last system that I bought, again, from you was a Kenwood KV8540 along with Polk Audio Speakers. My receiver is still working however it was time to update. When I first hooked up my Denon receiver and turned it on it blew me away. I still have a lot to learn about it and have not had the time to do so. [ MICHAEL T  Jan 17, 2016 ]

3 questions already asked

I'm not sure as it still uses a cable from the A/V receiver to the transmitter, although it will be shorter. I use two of them with two subs and I replaced the aforementioned cables with really nice shielded ones just to be safe. They are working great and have been for the last 6-8 months. I think you can, but you need two sets of WA 2. Need to split the subwoofer out and connect each Sender to it . It will be simpler if you have a 5.2 receiver ( 2 sub pre-out) the receiver of the wa-2 can't be split. I had two wireless Sub transmitter before of different brand . There is an interference on the signal if I put the units receiver too close, so I would recommend to some distance between the two receiver . I'm not sure if this is the case with the wa-2 . Just letting you know my experience. By the way there is a signal Booster in the Sender which may help if you split the sub pre-out from the your receiver , in case there is a signal loss. I have no problem at all with my set of WA-2. I hope this help. [ ALFREDO  May 18, 2015 ]
Hi, the answer to your question, I don't have the ans. Cus' I never tried it, I can only assume that will not work cus' the transmitter and receiver should match , putting another receiver to the other sub might result to a distortion on the output, hope this answer your question. [ ART  May 18, 2015 ]
Not to the best of my knowledge. There is only one wireless channel available. [ Jan  May 18, 2015 ]
Yes it wll work, provided no metal of any kind is infront of the remote box, [ ART  Aug 08, 2014 ]
I think so. I have mine inside a wood cabinet 15 feet away from the sub. [ Dan  Aug 04, 2014 ]
I also have my reciever in a closet and the wa-2 works great. I did notice the sub would hum when the crossover was in bypass never researched why. My sub is about 12ft away and around a corner from the closet. I recomend and would purchase again. [ RYAN  Jul 29, 2014 ]
Yes it work but follow the distance that say the instruction [ JUAN R  Jul 29, 2014 ]
Hi Pete, I believe the range is around 50 feet so you shouldn't have any problems with wireless communication between receiver and sub. Even though my gear is placed all together in the same room, I'm extremely happy with the wireless receiver. It was an easy setup and I haven't had any problems. Hope this helps you out. [ CHARLES L  Jul 29, 2014 ]
hi pete. yes my receiver is in a closet and the sub is out in the room and it works great. hope that helps. steve h. [ STEVEN  Jul 29, 2014 ]
I know it works across the room and from hanging off the back of the entertainment center but I have not tried it through walls. The entertainment center is about 3 ft. deep with lots of stuff inside between the transmitter and the receiver (WA-2). Since you mentioned this I might try it to see. [ ROBERT  Jul 29, 2014 ]
Pete - I have the transmitter located in a stereo closest with closed door connected to the sub about 25 feet away. No problems with wireless. Have never dropped and had to repair. Mark [ MARK G  Jul 28, 2014 ]
Sorry but not sure, as all of my components are out in the open! [ MICHAEL W  Jul 28, 2014 ]
This may help. I have two subwoofer for my stero which are tower speakers by Paradigm, one klipsch RW 12- 11 with W A transmitter the other with Rocetfish. I have to stand across this transmitters to play my music from my SMARTPHOE to the USB PORT located in front of my receiver . I noticed that the signal connection from the Rocetfish will stop if I stand in front for about 60 sec. or so ( blinking red ) This never happened with the WA- 2 I'm not sure if you need a little opening from your closet or not. [ ALFREDO  Jul 28, 2014 ]
My unit isn't in a different room or closet, but the sub woofer is in the back of the room behind all of our furniture and seems to work without any issues. I think it may be fine, but maybe check Crutchfield return policy in case it doesn't work. [ BRIAN  Jul 28, 2014 ]
Mine is working great with sub about 30' away from receiver. The receiver is in an enclosed cabinet set into an alcove with a wall on three sides. [ BRITTON  Jul 28, 2014 ]
