Coming back home after dark, it's comforting to know that this motion-activated light will automatically turn on when you pull into your driveway. You can even set the timer so the light stays on long enough for you to negotiate a path strewn with toys and see to slip your key in the lock.

The light is solar-powered, so you don't have to pay an electrician to hook it up or pay big electric bills. Just use the supplied cable to connect the solar panel to the floodlight. The sun's rays will charge its built-in battery so the light is ready when you need it.

Great solr light

I would give the product 5 stars ... it is a very bright light and so works great ... the missing star is because one of the two units I bought had the decorative metal frame fall off the solar panel as I was installing it. However I plan to buy two more of the lights. I have an earlier model that has worked well for 3 years while I have several discount models from elsewhere that only lasted a year.

Pros: very bright, works well

Cons: The mounting svcew is very small and easy to drop and loose on the ground, Also a decrotive frame on the solar panel fell off as I was installing the light.

Best invention ever. I live in Hawaii with sunny days all year round. These lights are perfect. I have 5 of them all around the perimeter of my house. My daughter lives in the mountain on the North Shore where it gets pitch black at night. We bought some for her too. It's really nice when you come home at night and the lights come on when you walk up to your gate and around the house. Energy/money savings are a bonus. Highly recommend them.

Pros: Saves money, saves energy, self sustaining, bright, super easy to install

Cons: Wish they had a switch to stay on longer

I was surprised at how bright this light is, I really didn't expect this much light from a solar-powered light. So far it works great and I plan on buying another one in a few months for the other side of my house.

Pros: Bright light, easy to install.

Cons: None

Good but not great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Based on the solid reviews, I purchased this light to use in my backyard for when the dog goes outside at night. Love the fact that it doesn't require any hard wiring and setup was a breeze! One and only knock is that I expected better illumination of the yard... it adds light but no where like a wired flood light would. I'd recommend this for security or to shine at an entrance (to unlock a door in an otherwise dark space) but if you're looking to light up your whole yard, there are probably better choices.

Pros: Quick and Easy Installation No elecrtrical wiring needed Good appearance / quality

Cons: Not bright enough to illuminate like a hard wired flood light would

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have had this product installed for over 7 months now. Absolutely love it -- very, very bright, good throw and looks great. Works every night like clockwork, without fail.

As Jon B mentioned above, It does take a bit of fidgeting to get the sensitivity where you want it -- so it doesn't come on too often but yet it does when you need it. I'd say that's the one thing about this light is it takes some time to do this -- and it's a bit awkward since you'll probably have to be on a ladder to do it. You might have to do it on successive nights as well -- I had it set where I thought I wanted it, then had to go back the next night and retweak.

There is a hotspot also, it's brightest in the center of the illumination dims outward from there, but even so it's still very very bright even outside of the hotspot.

Haven't had the water problem mentioned above, but our light is mounted under an overhang so it doesn't get much weather.

We looked at many lights before buying this one here and have no regrets and would not hesitate to buy it again or recommend it 100%. An excellent product!

One flaw noted

Would have given full five stars if not for fact lens is not water-tight and allows rain/snow
melt to enter the lens and collect on inside bottom of lamp. I drilled small weep hole at
bottom of lens to drain. Lens should have been properly sealed by manufacturer.

The hands down best of solar security lamps

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought two of these because of the price point on this site. The aluminum casing
attracted me because I live in the Northeast and I want these things to last for a while.
They are easy to set up and install. But it will take a few days to get your motion sensor
sensitivity at your desired response level. Yes, this is the brightest solar powered light I
have ever seen, it easily rivals my neighbors electric powered security flood light for the
brightest. If you have a three story house and you hang them high up, the light will cover
about a 30 foot radius, the light will not cover your entire back yard or drive I
am glad I purchased two. Great product, no need to keep looking.

Overview: The MAXSA Solar Motion-Activated Security Light (item # 40227) is powered by the supplied external Solar Panel and is activated by passive infrared motion sensors. The Solar Motion-Activate Wedge Light is easy to install, and perfect for decks, patios, balconies, entrance doors, garages, driveways, carports, walkways, backyards, farm sheds, pool areas, and stairs.

External Solar Panel: The supplied external Solar Panel charges through the day and coverts direct sunlight to electricity to charge the battery inside the Security Light. The Solar Panel connects to the Security Light via its attached 15' power cord. The Solar Panel features a durable weatherproof housing to protect it in all weather conditions. The Solar Panel has an adjustable head so it can mounted either on a flat or angled surface or rooftop. The Solar Panel is mounted using the supplied mounting screws and wall-anchors. The Solar Panel should be mounted in an area where it can receive 6-8 hours of daylight per day.

Note: Before its initial use, the MAXSA 40227 should be left in the direct sunlight to charge for three days.

Motion Activated Security Light: Using the stored energy from the connected Solar Panel, the 80 Super Bright LEDs inside the Security Light turn on automatically at night when motion is detected. The Security Light's 80 Super Bright LEDs illuminates a broad coverage area at 250 total lumens. When the battery is fully charged, this Solar Security Light can activate up to 180 30-second intervals. The Security Light features a swivel head which allows the lamp to rotate 360 degrees and angle up/down or left/right. The Motion Activated Solar Security Light features the following adjustment settings:

  • Time Period Adjustment: The time period control sets the duration that the Solar Security Light will be illuminated when activated. The time period is adjustable over a range of 10 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Motion Sensor Adjustment: The sensitivity of the motion sensor of this Solar Security Light will be affected by temperature. The Security Light's motion sensor has a field of vision of 120 degrees at a distance of 25 feet, when the surrounding temperature is 75 degrees. The cooler the temperature the more sensitive the motion sensor will become. Use this adjustment to set the sensitivity of the motion sensor to compensate for environmental temperature changes.
  • Light Level Adjustment: The LUX dial controls the natural light level that initiates operation and prevents the Security Light from operating during daylight hours.

Note: The LED lights in the Solar Security Light (40227) will last up to 30,000 hours and should never need replacement.

Rechargeable Batteries: Included in the Security Light are three AAA 2100mAh Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries. These batteries should last for approximately 3 years.
