Product Research

Features

Overview: The On-Q In-Wall Cable Access Port consists of a WP1014 cable access strap with a Decora wall plate. It is white in color, and facilitates running A/V and computer cables inside of the wall. It is designed to work with a standard J-box.

Unterminated: The in-wall cable access port does not have terminals, but a 2-1/8" x 3/4" opening for cable access. The opening is protected by white nylon bristles for a clean look. Since the port is not made for any specific type of cable, virtually any type of cable can be used with this access port.

Q
Would you need a backless bracket/junction box to adhere this too the drywall (for a finished wall)?

A
a junction box is the correct way but you could probably glue it to a wall
travis  Aug 31, 2020
A
Yes, just an open back electrical box. Either blue or orange

I would use a bracket. if you are very careful you could cut a smaller hole and use wall anchors. But such an installation will be much more fragile. It may also make your hole size smaller than you want. Measure twice cut once.

Q
Will a regular 3 prong power cord (for a TV for example) fit through the opening?

no it will not work. the opening is to narrow.

I like this design and have installed 5 of these. My experience is that it depends on the plug configuration. Some plugs will fit through but a 90 degree twist is required. On the "beefier" plugs, detaching the brushes (2 strips) from the rear of the plate is needed to create a larger temporary opening. After pulling the plug through, the brushes can be reattached. Depending on the device end connection, I've also found it simpler to use a fish tape (wire coat hanger works too) and pull the 110v line "up" since the device connection is often smaller than the 110v plug end. Hope this helps.

A
No, I had to run other end through.

I mounted this on my ceiling and put the three prong plug from my projector through it without any trouble. It looks really good once installed.

Q
will I be able to fit both hdmi and cat5 cables in the On-Q in wall cable access port?
michael  Aug 15, 2015

A
Absolutely. There is a fair amount of space. I would estimate that you could place 4-5 well insulated HDMI cables through the opening.
david  Aug 16, 2015
A
Yes. I've got 2 HDMI cables and an optical audio cable running through mine with enough room for 2x that.
james  Aug 16, 2015
A
Yes, the only one that was hard to get through was the power cord just do that one first.
henry c  Aug 16, 2015
A
It's a pretty big opening ... I bet you could run 6-8 cables thru it
jeffrey  Aug 15, 2015
A
Yes, but it will also depend on what is behind the wall.
andrew  Aug 15, 2015
Q
How big is the hole opening? Not the dimensions of the plate itself, but the dimensions of the hole you would put the cables through. Thanks!

3/4" wide by 2" long
todd  Jan 07, 2022

Use an old work box and pull cables into box then install port cover plate and pull cable through port opening.
