Get stunning sound from this compact, high-performance DAC/amp combo

When your entire music collection resides on your iPod® or your laptop computer, and your radio comes from the Internet, a traditional A/V receiver makes little sense. You no longer need a big, heavy box with a full array of analog audio inputs.

All you need is what you get with the Wadia 151 PowerDAC Mini: An audiophile-grade amplifier, a high-end digital-to-analog converter, and a few digital audio inputs (including USB) in a small, lightweight box.

Shown with optional matching iPod dock

The 151 PowerDAC mini is the perfect companion to Wadia's 170iTransport iPod® dock.

Stacks with Wadia's acclaimed iPod® dock

Add Wadia's matching 170iTransport iPod dock and a pair of good bookshelf speakers, and you've got a great-sounding audio system that's at home in your office, den, bedroom, or kitchen.

For compatibility with ultra-high resolution music files, the USB input accepts 24 bit/96 KHz data, and the other inputs accept 24 bit/192 KHz data. All input signals are upsampled to 24 bit/384 KHz to create a more spacious and natural musical presentation.

Everything you always wanted in a stereo receiver, except the radio

An integrated amplifier is essentially a receiver without a built-in AM/FM tuner. You get power to drive your speakers, audio controls, and inputs for music source components. Connect an iPod, a computer, a network music player, or any other device that can play Internet radio, and you may find you have no need for an AM/FM radio.

Great DAC - power amp needs work

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds great. It is a little underpowered for an amp. You need to have fairly efficient speakers or just not play very loud. Otherwise, truely excelent DAC! Power is on the back and can not be switched on and off from the remote. I hooked this

Pros: Makes the best out of the digital sound.

Cons: wish amp had a little more power. Its size is a little large compared to other brands. You must reach behind unit to turn on and off -- can NOT use the remote control to turn on and off (what were they thinking???)

I purchased the dac/amp 151 and hooked it up to my model 5s, which is not an easy drive, the like power.. I listen to jazz at moderate levels and sometimes take it up a notch and the unit does very well. I find it most pleasant in the detail of instruments, soundstage is outstanding. The bass control is very good, although in other reviews i have read on a lot of sites, most don't think it does enough. I have found it to be very good, no it doesn't replace a high current 75 watt amp, but it isn't made to do that. The unit is now driving my model 14 speakers which is not an easy drive and at moderate levels it is doing what it suppose too , very musical. This unit is perfect for small spaces with good speakers is outstanding is every measure. Yes i am going to move to a larger amp due to a louder volume, but for detail and musical, it is outstanding.

Almost Perfect DAC/ AMP

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Evaluated the Wadia 151 performance in 3 categories:music, movies,&PC
games.Hooked up to a pair of B&W CM-1 speakers using a high end PC as playback
unit.Connected my PC to the 151 via an Audioquest USB & a pair of Audioquest
Rocket 33 bi-wire speaker cables.Music is lively & 3 dimensional from mid to
high volume levels.Details are rarely lost even at the amp's max volume.Stereo
imaging is accurate & well balanced between my CM1s. Santana's "Black Magic
Woman"sound delightfully crisp..not bad for a USB sound! Most of my lossless
songs ranging from country to heavy metal sound rich & full.Though the 151
reproduction sound more digital, its nonetheless exciting & powerful.BluRay
playback of Avatar was close to rivaling the intensity of a dedicated home
theater system. My best experience w/ this little amp is in FPS gaming like
Crysis & Battlefield Bad Company 2.Gunfire & ambient game effects sound so
realistic!Explosions are solid but not Earth shattering.Overall, the 151 excels
in the mids & high frequencies BUT ALMOST ALWAYS appear to lack the power to
drive heart thumping bass. This is one of my gripes w/ the 151,not enough oomph
in the lower frequencies. But still good enough especially given it's diminutive
size w/c sits perfectly on my desk. With its sturdy all metal construction &
gorgeous looking front LCD window, the 151 is fantastic.I highly recommend this
to anyone w/ limited space & for near field listening applications w/ either a
small or high efficiency monitors.

Overview: The Wadia 151PowerDAC mini is an all-in-one digital amplifier solution. The Wadia 151PowerDAC combines a high-performance DAC, robust amplifier, and variety of digital inputs.

Aluminum Chassis: The Wadia 151PowerDAC mini features an aluminum chassis with a small, lightweight footprint.

LED Display: The Wadia 151PowerDAC mini is equipped with a front-panel LED blue-backlit display and discrete control buttons (input, phase, mute, volume +/-).

Integrated DAC: All audio signals fed into the Wadia 15PowerDAC mini are processed exclusively in the digital domain throughout the entire signal path from input to speaker outputs.

24-bit/384kHz Upsampling: The unit's digital inputs are directly fed into a powerful digital signal processor (DSP). The toslink and coax digital inputs, can accept up to a 24-bit/192kHz input data rate (USB: 24-bit/96kHz). Once the data enters the system, Wadia's data sampling technology uses a spline interpolation algorithm to up-sample all incoming data to 24 bit/ 384kHz for high performance conversion. The algorithm reduces interpolation error and creates highly accurate representations of the original performance.

DirectConnect Digital VolumeControl: The high resolution digital audio signal is modulated into Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) output using a proprietary digital algorithm. Up-sampled and filtered data is sent to the digital amplifier stage and managed by the DirectConnect digital volume control. This allows the data to still remain in the digital domain while additional current is applied to the signal in a manner that optimizes transient response and minimizes distortion.

50-Watt Amplifier: The high-resolution digital audio signal is amplified and delivered to your connected loudspeakers by a conservatively rated 50-watt x 2-channel @ 4-ohm (or 25-watt x 2-channl @ 8-ohm) digital amplifier.

4 Digital Inputs: Four selectable digital inputs including USB (type-B), Toslink, and (2) coax S/PDIF, allow you to connect your computer, game system, iPod dock (such as the Wadia 170iTransport), and other streaming audio sources.

5-Way Binding Posts: The Wadia 151PowerDAC mini features two pair of 5-way insulated gold-plated binding posts.

Remote Control: The Wadia 151PowerDAC mini includes an aluminum full-function IR remote control for wireless operation of the unit. The remote operates off of two "AAA" batteries (included).

Power Rating: 50 watt x 2-channel in 4-ohm @ 1kHz, 25 watt x 2-channel in 8-ohm @ 1kHz

Dynamic Power: 100 watt x 2-channel in 4-ohm @ 1kHz

Distortion (THS+N): 1kHz @ 1 watts = 0.03%, 1kHz @45 watts = 0.11%

Frequency Response: 20Hz to 20kHz +/-07 dB

Power Requirements: AC 90 - 264V, 50/H60Hz, 1.2 - 0.5A
