Turn your iPod, iPhone, or iPad into an audiophile-quality player
Wadia created a sensation when they introduced the innovative 170iTransport the first dock capable of bypassing an iPod's built-in DAC and analog circuitry to deliver a pristine digital audio signal. Building on that dock's success, Wadia worked their magic again and now proudly introduces its latest creation, the 171iTransport. This impressive new model is the first certified "Works with iPhone" dock to provide pure, bit-perfect digital output from the iPhone. It also lets iPad® users turn their tablets into high-end media servers, for enjoying the best possible sound and picture on a home audio/video system.
Serious upgrades for enhanced performance
Along with new iPhone and iPad capability, Wadia gave the 171iTransport some serious upgrades that add up to true audiophile-level performance. You get higher-performance power supply components and premium-grade circuit boards, for powerful dynamics and tighter, more tuneful bass. Plus advanced clocking circuitry provides vanishingly low jitter levels you'll hear greater transparency and smoother, more detailed sound. Wadia also added a beefy new coaxial digital output jack, as well as an optical digital connector for more hookup versatility.
Great video, too, and some cool extras
The 171iTransport features component video outputs on its back panel, which can be used to feed video signals to your TV. Enjoy photos and videos from your player with all the rich color and detail they contain. You also get an all-new metal remote that offers advanced control of your docked iPod, iPhone, or iPad select tracks, albums, and even playlists with ease. Wadia includes an assortment of docking inserts for your specific iPod, as well as a special new wired dock adapter that snaps into the top of the iTransport, and connects to your iPhone through a short harness. This keeps an iPhone's cell phone transmissions away from the delicate circuitry inside the 171's chassis, and makes it easy to connect an iPad, as well. And like the original 170iTransport, Wadia encases this extraordinary dock in a heavy-duty cast aluminum chassis, with a handsome powder-coated finish.

Wadia 171iTransport Reviews

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I was disappointed at first when it arrived to learn that I needed to also buy a D A C to make it work. My Jolida amp has no internal dac and no optical input. spent another 350.00 to buy a vdac , hooked it all up and WOW the music is great. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is that The description should be clear that you have to buy additional gear if your amp is like mine. Great piece of equipment.
Flawless - Bit Perfect.
My CD player has external (digital audio) input(s) and a really good upconverting internal D/A converter. I find i don't play CD's anymore once I have ripped them (lossless format) to (one of) my Classic iPods and can play them back from my i171 through my CD player digital inputs. @ this price it is a must buy unless you are happy with 256Kb or less, compressed files.
Of course, there are many nice external D/A converters that would do justice to the Wadia i171 (or visa versa). The Wadia i171 remote is MUCH improved over the i170 remote, but I think sound reproduction of the Wadia i170 is flawless also.
Pros: Seems truly bit perfect.
Cons: You gotta be kidding. OK, needs an external D/A converter. May be bigger than it needs to be.
You are reading this of courses since you have a iPod recorded ( with music) in loss- less format and want to integrate it (iPod) into your main system and want the best possible sound.
Once I connected the iPod Classic and Wadia i170 with a decent D/A converter I was hooked on the possibility of a great way to bypass loading gobs of CD's on a good player and listening to music as long as I cared to change CD's.
Wadia was thinking ahead years ago,and had a solution. The i170. The i171 takes a quantum leap with the new remote. Luckily, I don't have golden ears that can hear the differences in cables, but I can hear garbled and the difference between compressed and lossless audio files.
Pros: Great (true bit perfect) sound
Cons: I guess more expensive than next competing device. (Cambridge Audio ID 100)
An amazing device
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I gave this five stars because it does exactly what it says it will do, this little black box can turn your tiny iPod into a killer music machine. I have Oppo and Harmon Kardon disc players and the best sounding music I got before I bought the 171 iTransport was from DVD's. The iTransport sounds really great with your iTunes 256 kbps files and it sounds utterly fantastic when listening to WAV files. Some music sounds better than others just because of the way they were recorded but every song on my iPod sounds better than any of my CD's, how is that possible??? It took me a long time to cough up the money for this machine but thank goodness I finally did because it's rekindled my love of music. It has a nice remote with it but I haven't quite figured out the best way to use it. The only downside so far is the iPod is still little and when I'm looking for a song I have to get up and go over to the system and look at the iPod face. I have made some playlists and that works well. I suppose there is a way to put the menu on your TV but haven't tried that yet. The iTransport gets 5 stars because it brings so much depth, timbre, space and warmth into your music. It's SONIC!

Overview: The Wadia 171iTransport is specifically designed to transform your iPod, iPhone, or iPad into a high-resolution audio/video media server. The iTransport combines the convenience of personal audio with the performance and connectivity of your home audio/video system, delivering bit-perfect digital audio signal via S/PDIF coaxial or optical output, DVD quality video via component outputs, and built on a sleek aluminum chassis. The 171iTransport allows you to experience true audiophile sound quality and superior video performance by integrating your iPod, iPhone, or iPad into your home Audio/Video system.
Aluminum Chassis: The Wadia 171iTransport is built on a precision-engineered aluminum chassis for exceptional performance and durability. The unit is also supported by four vibration absorbing isolation cones.
High-Quality Circuit Boards & Clock Circuitry: The Wadia 171iTransport utilizes premium-grade circuit boards and advanced clocking circuitry for dynamic, transparent, detailed sound with less jitter distortion.
True-Bit Digital Audio: The 171iTransport bypasses the digital-to-analog conversion and analog output stage from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad when connected via digital coax/optical. By providing a pure digital audio output from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad, the 170iTransport enables performance that is only limited by the resolution of your audio files stored on the iPod/iPhone, and the overall quality of your audio system. In other words, the 170iTransport makes it possible to achieve true audiophile performance from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
Note: Wadia recommends storing music on your iPod/iPhone in the highest bit rate for optimum sonic performance. Storing music files at higher bit rates will require substantially more storage space on your computer and iPod/iPhone, however, the sonic improvement is self-evident. The highest available quality is achieved by importing music into iTunes as WAV files. Another good option for storing music in iTunes is Apple Lossless.
iPod/iPhone Dock: The 171iTransport is fitted with a top-panel iPod/iPhone dock connector to connect your iPod/iPhone device. The 171iTransport is compatible with iPod classic (80/120/160GB), iPod nano (2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th gen), iPod touch (1st/2nd/3rd/4th gen), and iPhone (2G/3G/3GS/4).
Note: The 171Transport includes the following iPod/iPhone dock adapter inserts - iPod video (for the Classic), iPod nano (3rd gen), iPod nano (4th gen), iPod touch (2nd gen), and iPhone 3G, If your iPod or iPhone does not already come with an iPod/iPhone adapter insert, it is highly recommend you purchase one from the Apple Store for a proper fit.
iPhone/iPad Adapter Cable: For optimum iPhone antenna performance, the 171iTransport comes with an adaptor that includes a tethered cable so the iPhone (2G/3G/3GS/4) can be connected while outside the aluminum chassis. This also allows for connection with your iPad.
S/PDIF Digital Output: The 171iTransport is equipped with a digital coaxial output and a optical digital output that connects your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your AV receiver.
High-Resolution Component Video Output: There is a high-resolution component video output which lets you playback videos and photos stored on your iPod, iPhone, or iPad on your connected television.
Note: The Wadia 171iTransport only acts as a high-performance pass-thru for video signals. Picture performance is limited to the quality of the material stored on your iPod/iPhone.
No Song/Artist Information: Song/artist information and Album cover art will not be displayed on your connected AV receiver's LCD screen or TV screen. Song/artist information and Album cover art will still need to be viewed from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad's screen.
Wireless Remote Control: The 171iTransport comes supplied with an IR (infrared) remote control that allows music and video navigation of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. You can also continue to control your Apple device from its clickwheel or touchscreen. The following functions can be controlled by the included IR remote.
- Menu Navigation and Selection
- Fast Forward/Reverse Track
- Skip Track (Previous/Next)
- Skip Album (Previous/Next)
- Skip Playlist (Previous/Next)
- Shuffle (On/Off)
Note: Although the remote has volume and mute buttons, they are not functional for this unit.
Power Supply With Charging Capability: The Wadia 171iTransport operates on standard household AC current using the supplied external AC power adapter and detachable power cord. The 171iTransport will charge your compatible iPod or iPhone while docked. The 717iTransport will not charge the iPad.
