Lose the loud commercials, gain spacious sound

I remember hearing years ago that TV stations were no longer allowed to crank up the volume during commercial breaks. Well, they seem as loud and annoying as ever. Thankfully, ZVOX's “output leveling” mode tames startling spikes in volume when ads come on.

For the sounds you actually do want to hear, ZVOX uses special processing to spread out the sound. The AV200 offers a nice simulated surround effect that makes shows, movies, and sports pleasant to watch.

Features

AccuVoice TV Speaker: The AccuVoice TV Speaker (AV200) is specifically designed to produce room-filling sound, while rendering crystal clear dialog. It uses three high-performance speakers, an acoustically stable aluminum cabinet, and a 30-watt Class D digital amplifier to create warm, natural, realistic sound. Aluminum allows ZVOX to make the speaker very small, but still acoustically correct, because the metal is strong and has very low resonance.

Built-in Hearing-Aid Technology: This tiny TV speaker utilizes ZVOX's proprietary (patent-pending) AccuVoice technology to solve the dialog clarity problem with many of today's flat-panel TVs. AccuVoice mimics the function of a hearing aid by isolating voice frequencies and lifting them out of background sounds. ZVOX's advanced digital processor analyzes TV programs and movie soundtracks, and when it detects voices it instantly activates computer algorithms that bring voices forward. The frequencies used by human voices are dynamically emphasized, while other frequencies are minimized. You'll hear crystal-clear dialogue, even at lower volumes.

PhaseCue Virtual Surround Sound: The AccuVoice TV Speaker (AV200) uses ZVOX's proprietary PhaseCue virtual surround processing to give you rich, three-dimensional sound with movies or music. PhaseCue, as its name implies, manipulates the phase of the separate channels to "fool the ear" into believing that sound is coming from a variety of sources throughout the room. You choose from 3 PhaseCue Virtual Surround Sound modes.

  • Surround 1: Low virtual surround effect and strong vocals for enhanced vocal clarity.
  • Surround 2: Moderate virtual surround effect and moderate vocals for most program material.
  • Surround 3: Strong virtual surround effect and moderate vocals for movies.
Note: AccuVoice cannot be used in conjunction with a PhaseCure Virtual Surround Sound mode.

Output Leveling: If you've ever been blasted out of your chair by a too-loud commercial, or by a cable channel that's twice as loud as another channel, you'll love the Output Leveling (OL). Just push the "OL" button and a sophisticated compression system takes over, making soft sounds louder and loud sounds softer, so there are fewer jarring moments when switching channels or when commercials come on.

Note: AccuVoice and Output Leveling can be activated simultaneously.

Bass & Treble: The ZVOX AV200 speaker has independent bass & treble controls. Each has a range from -4 to 4, and can be adjusted using the remote control only.

Digital & Analog Inputs: The ZVOX AccuVoice TV Speaker has one optical (toslink) digital input and one analog stereo minijack (3.5mm) input. The digital input will support 2ch PCM and 5.1ch Dolby Digital.

Sub Output: The The ZVOX AV200 speaker features a minijack (3.5mm) subwoofer output for connecting a powered subwoofer if you want more bass out of the system. The powered sub should have a line-level input and a built-in low pass crossover.

Remote Control: The ZVOX AV200 comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the speaker. The included wireless remote has controls for power, input select, mute, volume, surround effect level, bass & treble, as well as AccuVoice and Output Leveling functions. The AV200 can also be programmed to respond to your TV or satellite/cable remote control. Once programmed, you can control volume, mute, input, and power with your TV or satellite/cable remote. There are also Power, Volume, and Input control buttons on one end of the soundbar speaker.

Note: Many newer TVs are coming with RF remotes and don't offer IR functionality. In this case, you would not be able to program the soundbar and TV remote to work together.

Hidden Display: The AccuVoice TV Speaker (AV200) features a four-digit display located behind the speaker grille that shows the current setting for volume, bass, treble, and PhaseCue (virtual surround); plus shows when you have engaged the Mute, Output Leveling or AccuVoice features. A few seconds after you stop using your remote (or side-panel) controls, the display disappears completely.

Mounting Options: The ZVOX AccuVoice TV Speaker measures only 17.0625" (w) x 3.0" (h) x 3.3125" (d), and can fit almost anywhere. The speaker can be placed on a table top or wall-mounted using its integrated keyhole slots.

Q
zvox turns on and volume indicates on but no noise comes out of television. It is connected directly to tv and my service is through a cable company. Zvox is NOT connected through cable box. Can it be fixed or must I purchase a new remote?

If you purchased the product from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. They can walk you through the settings on the product and see if there may be a fix. I just bought one of these and would like to add a subwoofer what are my options?

I am sorry but I do not have any information on options regarding addition of a subwoofer. I use my ZVOX as a standalone system.

Q
Given the voiced enhancement with this speaker, is there some way it could serve as the center channel speaker in a standard 5+1 surround sound system driven by a Yamaha receiver (using Klipsch speakers), i.e., have the Yamaha drive all but the center channel and use the Zvox for the center channel?
douglas  Apr 14, 2019

A
I only use for BBC shows and movies as dialog is difficult and Zvox is a great improvement. I use Polk center speaker with 5.1 for alost all other TV broadcast. can not be any help to your question.

Are you able to mount this to the wall?

Yes, it has mounting brackets on the back. I would suggest getting the Bose unit instead, as this item did not function for long.
andrew  Dec 31, 2018
A
Yes, there are 2 "keyhole" shaped holes in back. 2 screws in a solid base and the speaker slips right over the screw heads.

yes slots are 12 inch centers- use wingits or molly type drywall anchors

It should work and sound great. How long it works I can't vouch for. Consider the Bose unit, as I have never had problems with Bose.
andrew  Apr 24, 2018
A
Not sure. There are 3 ways to connect to the ZVOX (viz., output from source like a TV to the ZVOX) 1. Using the supplied Optical Digital Output Jack (sometimes called a "Toslink") 2. Using the supplied Minijack Analog Audio Output Jack (3.5 mm) or headphone jack--mini plug to mini plug 3. Using the supplied Red and White RCA Analog Output jacks. Hopefully, one of these 3 options will work with your tower computer. All cords are supplied with the ZVOX which is a very nice feature of this speaker product. Good Luck!

I control my TV audio through my Yamaha Receiver. Can I connect the ZVOX AV200 Accuvoice to my receiver or does it have connect with the TV speakers?

If your receiver has a headphone output jack, I believe that would work. Be aware that the ZVOX also has a volume control on it's remote. Hope this helps.

I am very sorry that I don't know the answer to your question. I purchased this for my father-in-law last Christmas and connected it directly to the television speakers. He is 93 and thinks this is the greatest thing in the world!
judy  Dec 04, 2017

No on both. The ZVOX is amplified, with no ARC. It will connect though the PCM output on your TV.

I do not have a Yamaha receiver. Connects through the TV speaker system.

Q
How can this incorporate with a 5.1 Pioneer surround system? I have a 65in Samsung HDTV. Don't want to lose the Dolby Digital effects of surround.

The way the AV200 works is to lower the bass, raise the treble and combine all channels so hearing impaired people can hear better, in effect cancelling out any surround action. It can be used as a center channel speaker. I prefer some surround action, however some people can't listen that way. The AV200 has an option also to keep volume levels the same for all viewing (commercials are not louder) and that is worth it. I am using it for TV sound for my mom, sounds somewhat tinny, but she can hear it better than the TV speakers.
andrew  Jan 10, 2017
A
Can't do it. This is a Powered unit. You need a Soundbar designed to work with a surround sound receiver. I know that Def Tech makes one. Good luck.
wendell  Jan 09, 2017
A
You can plug the AV200 into the optical output of your Pioneer and use both at the same time. But I think you will lose the advantage of the AV200's emphasizing speech frequencies.

Q
I wear hearing adds and have difficulty hearing voices. My TV is a Samsung LED Series 6000 manufactured in July, 2011. It has rear facing speakers. I need a soundbar that is especially good with voices and projects the sound forward. Is this one the correct choice, for my purpose?
robert  Nov 25, 2016

A
Maybe, this unit does offer a feature that seems to project dialogue. I also am a Hearing Aid user. It is without question 100% better than the speakers in my 60" Vizio. ZVOX builds a outstanding piece. Hope this helps.
wendell  Nov 28, 2016

I also have a Samsung TV and bought this product to improve the poor sound quality that's common with flat screen TVs. I would recommend this product which I find has helped lift voices above background noises and music. The Accuvoice setting dramatically increases the clarity of voices on programs with poor audio quality. My brother-in-law has hearing loss and he thought the Accuvoice sound was clear. This product also has adjustable treble/bass and surround settings that also help improve overall sound quality. It is easy to install. I think your TV has an optical digital output jack, but if it doesn't, you can use the analog signal cable that is also included with the sound bar. ZVOX has a good reputation and this product has received favorable reviews. For the price, it's a great value.

Dear Robert B., My wife and I are both "hard of hearing." We have a wonderful, and very expensive, Panasonic 50" plasma TV. It has wonderful speakers--but--we still have difficulty understanding the words of a movie, and especially the words of the sports announcers. In July or August or this year I read about a new soundbar by ZVOX to be on the market in September. It was one advertised as one using hearing aid technology. We, as many other "older people," have difficulty with hearing people with crowd noise in the background. Our hearing is diminished severely in the high frequency range. Well, as is said, "To make a long story short," on September 4th I ordered that new soundbar--from Crutchfields. It is the zvox AV 200 AccuVoice. To say that we are happy with it is an understatement. We are thrilled! Robert C.

I wear hearing aids too. My Samsung TV is connected to the ZVOX AV200 through the optical audio output. I have it sitting in front of the TV and use "Accu" or "SD 1" mode for voice boost. Seems to work well at the volume setting of 7 for me. Depending on your hearing, the volume setting may be different. Some voices sound a little tinny but I can hear them fine. You may also want to check out Bose an Yamaha.
