Putting the emphasis on dialogue — not commercials

Tiny television speakers tend to muddy speech, often making it difficult to follow the story. That's why ZVOX created a dialogue enhancement feature that gives voices new clarity and prominence. What's more, ZVOX knows how sponsors love to blast us out of our seats during commercial breaks. Thanks to the output leveling feature, the 320 keeps commercials on a short leash so you can just relax and enjoy.

ZVOX Z-Base V320

A whole lot of goodness in a sweet little package

This one-piece system houses three full-range speakers, a high-output woofer, and built-in amplification — there's no need to use a separate receiver or run wires to any external speakers. Plus, the system is designed to serve as a convenient base for flat-panel TVs with screen sizes up to 42". Even older TVs sit perfectly atop this sturdy wooden cabinet that can support up to 120 lbs. Place the SoundBase directly underneath your TV and you won't have to worry about making extra room for it on your entertainment stand.

Convenience is key

The SoundBase 320 is a great place to plug in your iPod® or portable player for terrific sound. It has a minijack input on the front panel for easy access. Its front-panel display lights up from behind the front cloth grille then disappears when not in use. And it learns the commands of your TV remote, giving you one less clicker to keep track of. Signal-sensing circuitry powers the system on and off along with your TV.

Features

Overview: The ZVOX SoundBase 320 is a single-cabinet audio system for your flat-panel television. It combines high-quality speakers, a built-in amplifier, a built-in subwoofer, and ZVOX PhaseCue II Virtual Surround Sound processing to give you an easy surround sound solution. Since there are no speaker wires to deal with, you just need to connect the power and audio cables to get started.

TV Compatibility: Most 27"-42" flat-panel TVs can be placed directly on top the SoundBase 320. The television should weigh 110 pounds or less. The TV's pedestal base should not exceed 22" width or 10" depth. You can also place the unit on a shelf directly below the TV, if desired.

Class D Amplifier: The ZVOX SoundBase 320 is bi-amplified, using a specially designed, highly-efficient 45 watt Class D amplifier that includes electronic contouring for superb frequency response.

Three 2" Drivers: The ZVOX SoundBase 320 uses three 2" main speaker drivers that use a long-throw design to create a remarkable wide range, and accurate sound.

5-1/4" Subwoofer: In addition to the three main speakers, the SoundBase 320 has a built-in down firing high-mass, long-throw 5-1/4" subwoofer in a ported enclosure.

PhaseCue II Virtual Surround Sound: The SoundBase 320 uses ZVOX's proprietary PhaseCue II virtual surround processing to give you rich, three-dimensional sound with movies or music. PhaseCue II, as its name implies, manipulates the phase of the separate channels to "fool the ear" into believing that sound is coming from a variety of sources throughout the room. The benefits of PhaseCue II vary greatly based on program material. Live music and well-recorded modern movie soundtracks will deliver rich, three-dimensional sound - pulling the sound out from the speakers and into the room, literally surrounding the listener.

  • Music: With music, PhaseCue II creates a very wide soundstage - it literally sounds like you are listening to speakers eight feet apart from each other.
  • Movies: When listening to a good movie, the soundtrack will envelop you - putting you in the middle of the action.

Note: While the virtual surround experience isn't the same as a high-quality 5.1-channel system, the performance is much better than the speakers built-in to most TV's.

Wood (MDF) Cabinet: The SoundBase 320 features a cabinet made of MDF (medium density fiberboard), the same material used in most high-end loudspeakers. Its low-profile design blends perfectly with most flat-panel TVs.

Disappearing Display: The SoundBase 320 features a four-digit display located behind the speaker grille that shows the current setting for volume, bass/treble, and PhaseCue II (virtual surround). It also shows when you have engaged the Mute, Output Leveling (OL), or Dialog Emphasis (DE) features. A few seconds after you stop using your remote (or front panel) controls, the display disappears completely.

Controls

Dialogue Emphasis (DE): Dialogue Emphasis (DE) provides an easy-to-use and effective method for improving the intelligibility of television dialogue. By pressing the Dialogue Emphasis (DE) function button on the remote control, the system engages a circuit that mimics the functions of a hearing aid. The frequencies used by human voices are dynamically emphasized, while other frequencies are minimized.

Output Leveling (OL): The Output Leveling (OL) function prevents large changes in volume levels. Simply press the Output Leveling (OL) button on the remote control and a sophisticated processor takes over, making soft sounds louder and loud sounds softer, so there are fewer jarring moments when switching channels or when commercials come on. This system also helps by boosting the audio levels from a DVD or Blu-ray player that are not loud enough.

Surround Settings: You can adjust the level of PhaseCue II virtual surround processing effect. You can select from Surround One (low effect), Surround Two (moderate effect), Surround Three (strong effect).

Tone Control: The SoundBase 320 has independent bass and treble controls. Each has a range from -4 to 4, and can be adjusted using the remote control only.

Remote Control: The included wireless remote has controls for power, input select, mute, volume, PhaseCue II effect level, bass and treble level. and DE/OL functions.

Programmable: The new SoundBase 320 can be programmed to respond to your current remote control. The illuminated display walks you through a less-than-a-minute programming cycle. Then your TV remote, cable box remote, or satellite receiver remote can control volume up, volume down, mute, and power on the ZVOX system.

Auto Standby: The SoundBase 320 will enter a low-power Standby mode after approximately 5 minutes of no audio signal.

Connections

One Cable Connection: The SoundBase 320 requires only one connection cable. You can use either analog or digital connection options to your television.

Audio Inputs: The ZVOX SoundBase 320 offers analog and digital audio inputs:

  • Digital Inputs: The SoundBase 320 is equipped with a coaxial digital (single RCA) and an optical digital (Toslink) input. The digital inputs will accept 2-channel PCM only (not compatible with Dolby Digital bitstream signals).
  • Analog Inputs: The SoundBase 320 has two rear-panel stereo RCA analog inputs and a front-panel 3.5mm analog audio input. The front panel input is handy for connecting an iPod or other portable audio device.

Q
Has anyone used this with a wall mounted TV? If so, is the dialogue and/or sound to far from TV. I would like to use this with a wall mounted 55" TV, I am placing it on the table below with the cable box. Where does the sound emanate from, The top or front face. How is the sound quality? Thanks for any information you can provide.

I don't use it with a wall mounted TV, however my Tv is sitting on top of it and the sound is pretty goo. I have it set up in my bedroom and I usually watch TV when I'm on the treadmill, even with the sound of the treadmill it's still pretty good. Hope this helps a bit.

Nelson-- I did purchase a ZVOX Soundbase 320 in November of 2013, but my TV is not wall-mounted. Therefore, I cannot answer your question about whether the dialogue/background sound is far from the TV. I can tell you that the sound emanates from the front panel and definitely enhances the sound from the TV. There is a feature I especially like called "Dialog Emphasis," which will focus the sound more on the dialog. This is helpful if you're watching TV late at night, and you don't want to disturb other people. The top of the box is solid in appearance. I'm pleased with the ZVOX.

For the money the sound is very good. The eq options are limited. Bass response is a bit disappointing d/t absent subsonics. Unless space and budget are limited I would recommend a slightly more expensive sound bar and matched sub. Pdm

Sound quality is better than what comes out of the tv's speakers. I also have the Bose Solo with another tv which has even better sound quality. The sound comes straight out the front for both uunits.

Hi Nelson, First off, I'm enjoying my SoundBase 320 a lot, having had it for two years now. The sound quality is very good, and everything still works perfectly. So I do recommend it. However, it's pretty close to my TV so any answer re the sound quality with a wall-mounted TV would be pure speculation. Just thought I'd let you know. Dan

We have the tv sitting on top of the box. I do not think the sound would be any different from a wall mount if it is not too high.We have the sound on the tv speakers turned off so there is no echo effect. The sound is much better from the ZVOX than the tv ,in fact there is no comparison between them.

My Samsung TV sits directly on top of the ZVOX unit. If your ZVOX unit will be close to the TV, then that's very close to what I've got. The ZVOX unit does provide a good deep and rich sound for your TV. We watch tons of Netflix movies on our TV via the Internet, and the ZVOX unit provides excellent sound. There's a huge difference between sound coming out of the Samsung TV and the ZVOX sound system. I will be purchasing another ZVOX sound system this year for a wall-mounted TV because I enjoy listening to the rich sound coming out of the ZVOX unit.

I don't have the dish network, but i did sync it with my cable provider and it was very easy. I think it is a good product.
arthur  Apr 04, 2014

I synced to a cable remote with no problems so I can't imagine Dish would be an issue.
ellery  Apr 04, 2014

I don't use my Zvox with a dish remote. I do use it with a Samsung TV and was unable to use the Zvox feature that allows it to be used with other remotes because the TV would disallow the use of the volume control on the remote if the TV speakers were off and remote ones in use. I use a feature the TV has which generates the appropriate response to be transmitted to the Zvox through an IR remote.

I have AT&T Universe and I was able to program their remote to work with the ZVOX unit. I think it would work fine with the DISH network. It has a feature to sync the sound to the picture.
