ZVOX

Our take on the ZVOX 325

Get room-filling sound without a room full of speakers. The convenient, easy-to-use ZVOX 325 gives you full, detailed sound with your TV shows, movies, concert DVDs, and more. This one-piece system houses three full-range speakers, an internal woofer, and built-in amplification — you won't need to use a separate receiver or run wires to any external speakers.

ZVOX's proprietary processing creates virtual surround effects by manipulating the phase and timing of each channel, sending signals to separate drivers at the appropriate moment. This expands the soundstage and "tricks" your ears into thinking that sound is coming from points throughout your room.

Setup couldn't be simpler, with just one cable to plug into your TV. Control the 325 with the included remote. Automatic on/off circuitry powers the 325 on and off along with your TV. And this sleek system looks right at home below or beside your flat-panel set.

Features

Overview: The ZVOX 325 is a single-cabinet audio system for use with TVs, iPods and other MP3 players, and PCs. It combines high-quality speakers, a built-in amplifier, a built-in subwoofer, and ZVOX PhaseCue virtual surround sound processing to give you an easy surround sound solution. Since there are no speaker wires to deal with, you just need to connect the power and audio cables to get started. The unit is the same width as typical DVD players and cable boxes and can easily fit on a shelf above or below your TV.

PhaseCue: The proprietary PhaseCue virtual surround sound system manipulates the phase of the separate channels to fool the ear into believing that sound is coming from a variety of sources throughout the room. A front-panel rotary dial lets you control the size of the sound stage and the amount of virtual surround effect. Dynamic soundtracks from movies and live recorded music programs provide a rich, 3-dimensional sound, while the surround effect is somewhat less with TV programs and newscasts. Note: While the surround experience isn't the same as high-quality 5.1-channel system, the performance is much more pleasing than simply using the TV's built-in speakers.

Speaker Configuration: The ZVOX 325 uses three ferrofluid cooled 3-1/4" main speaker drivers with neodymium magnets. The drivers use the Infinite Compliance system, which connects the outer two speakers with an acoustic tube, to create a big sound from a small cabinet. The speakers are magnetically shielded, allowing the unit to be placed near a CRT TV or monitor.

Subwoofer: In addition to the three main speakers, the 325 has a high-mass, long-throw 5-1/4" subwoofer in a bandpass enclosure. You can adjust the bass output using the rotary Subwoofer Level control on the rear panel. An optional powered subwoofer can be connected via the rear-panel 3.5mm mini-jack output.

Power Output: The ZVOX 325 has a built in amplifier that drives all of the speakers. This amplifier is rated at 60 watts, however, due to the limitations of the power supply, the amplifier outputs a total of 24.3 watts.

Cabinet: The ZVOX 325 has an MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) wood cabinet.

Auto Power: The 325 has an auto-on/auto-off power circuit. When the unit's power switch is set to Standby mode, the power automatically turns on when an audio signal is sensed. (The power LED changes from red to green.) When you turn off the audio source, the 325's power will automatically turn off after approximately three minutes with no signal. You can bypass the Auto Power circuit by switching the unit to On or Off.

Inputs/Outputs: The ZVOX 325 has two 3.5mm mini-jacks on the rear panel and another mini-jack input on the front panel. Input 1 on the rear panel is for connecting your TV, PC, or other audio source. The other rear-panel mini-jack, labeled Output (Input 2), allows you to connect an optional powered subwoofer, but also acts as a second mixing input. It will only act as an input when another device is connected to Input 1. When a cable is plugged into the front panel input, the rear panel input is automatically disengaged.

Connecting To Your TV: It is recommended that you connect the 325 to the audio output of your TV. If your TV's audio outputs can be set to Variable, you can use your TV's remote control to adjust the volume. If not, use the 325's front-panel volume control or the supplied remote control.

ZVOX 325

Written By PH, Blacksburg VA on Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Good little unit--decent sound, (way better than the built-in TV speakers), easy to hook up and doubles as a handy stand for our TV. Can adjust bass response to taste. May not be as impressive as multi-speaker surround-sound systems but that's not what we were after--just a good upgrade to TV sound. Crutchfield delivery was amazingly fast too!

Nice Inexpensive Audio Solution

Written By BrianM, Danbury, CT on Friday, January 20, 2012

Bought this for a client that was unhappy with the volume & clarity on his regular Panasonic panel speakers. For a small box sound is outstanding. I'm not using the remote, just the RCA Jacks on the back of the panel which handle that. I'm not a Bose fan, but it reminds me of the wave radio, really good bass good definition. ZVOX addresses tone via a front knob that actually throws the L & R speakers out of phase, I found that interesting and it works well. Good Value. I don't think this particular model is available anymore, but I'm recommending ZVOX for a low budget solution to bad TV speaker sound.
Pros:
Ease of installation, compact size, good sound, inexpensive.
Cons:
Too deep to mount under a wall mounted TV, Remote codes not available for some Univ. Remotes.

ZVOX 325

Great product!
Pros:
The sound is clear, crisp and I can hear some things that I wasn't hearing on my previous low-budget system.
Cons:
The product image is a bit deceptive. The speaker is much more substantial than what I had initially thought.

ZVOX 325 Connected to a Colby TV

Written By Daverx, Willits, CA on Thursday, November 03, 2011

My wife bought a 15" Colby/DVD so she would have TV in the kitchen. The sound was like the speaker was coming out of a tin can. Crutchfield advised me that the ZVOX 325 powered speakers would do the job, so I bought it. The only reason for the 4stars instead of 5 is getting it to work using the Colby rca connections. I was almost ready to return it when I noticed a "Phone" connection, stands for head phone. So I plugged one end in to the Colby with the provided single cable (Mini stereo plug) and the other end into ZVOX 325 Mini Port port. To my suprise, out came the perfect sound.
Pros:
For it's size it sounds as good as my Home Theater full size speakers.
Cons:
I could not get it to work, then discovered in our case we needed to use the mini cable instead of the RCA connectors.

Improves sound on tv

Written By tomr, westchester, ny on Friday, September 23, 2011

I bought this unit because the sound on my new plasma tv was disappointing. It definitely succeded in that regard. However; as my tv did not have audio outputs, the zvox had to be connected to my cable box which had a certain benefit because the cable remote could not control the volume before. Nevertheless, the cable signal now has to be turned off or the sound continues after the tv is turned off ( I have the power on the zvox on standby as instructed.) I can't use the unit for my dvd player which is one of the reasons I purchased the zvox and have to turn on the tv speakers in order to watch a dvd recording.

worth every cent

Written By Ron, Pace, Florida on Sunday, September 11, 2011

I have two of these, one for my 54 inch Panasonic G30 and another for my brand- new 60 inch Panasonic ST30 plasma. These are excellent TV's but with horrible sound system. The ZVOX 325 provides a full sound for a reasonable price. What more can I say!

Sound was worse than my LG TV speakers. Subwoofer output was non existent. Possibly a defective unit??? Returned for credit.

Maybe their higher priced units have better sound and bass ouput.

Just what I needed

Written By TomP, Akron, OH on Saturday, April 09, 2011

Look folks, some of us don't want or need audiophile experiences just to watch
TV. But we DO want to be able to hear well with our new flat screen TVs, right?
I did not want a five speaker home theater nor did I want a booming,
space-eating sub-woofer, even if it could be stored in a corner of the room and
operated wirelessly. I DID want something that would fit on a shelf in my new
TV cabinet and, well, not be the focus of everyone's eyes. This speaker does
the job perfectly. When added to the TV it is a good complement and we have had
to turn DOWN the bass because it seemed to have more than enough for the room
(which is about 15' x 20'). The clarity of the sound is fine and there is more
than enough volume. The virtual surround feature is not what you would buy this
for. Overall, a good value.
