Our take on the Peachtree220

by Woody Sherman
Peachtree Audio

With a fine component like the Peachtree220 stereo power amplifier, fancy words aren't really necessary. It's Peachtree. And it delivers 220 watts per channel of pure, controlled power from an attractive, low profile package that they're proud to put their highly-regarded name on. If you've spent any time listening to Peachtree products at all, you'll know that we've said enough for you to make a sound decision.

But hey, since you asked, we'll tell you more things you'll want to know. Instantly available clean power is the spark that ignites your music, and the '220 has plenty of it. You'll notice cleaner imaging and more extension on both ends of the audio spectrum as your speakers have the power they need to reproduce demanding frequencies and dynamic range.

The '220 takes both balanced XLR stereo inputs and unbalanced RCA stereo inputs. Two sets of high-quality 5-way binding posts will host speaker cables with banana plugs or spades, or just bare speaker wire.

This amplifier features a Class D design which delivers crisp treble and floor-shaking bass. It runs cooler than many other amps. And if you run 4 ohm speakers, the 220 will give you an even more impressive 400 watts per channel.

This Class D amp sounds as good as my AB amp

Written By AlexM, Florida on Friday, July 18, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Yamaha DPS amp and Forte Audio FT-1 AB amp were insufficient in powering my PSB Gold speakers. By moving the Forte to power center, back and back effect speakers I now had room to power the front speakers. This amp doesn't have the punch I was hoping for; that's my only complaint. However, with a Subsonic sub, the bass is not an issue.

Now the good: it's like you purchased new speakers. I never used this system for music. Now songs I'd heard countless times sounded different. Honest, I'm not just saying "different" for effect. I honestly heard sounds that were NEVER there before. The kids and highs are just great.
Pros:
Easy set up, crisp sound and powerful. Open box model (which looked brand new) was 1/2 price of MSRP. Tech support guys at PeachTree Audio were very pleasant and took time to answer any questions that I had.
Cons:
The shape takes getting used to. I think it'd be great as a center piece or something that sat under my iMac, but it's shape and color stands out like a sore thumb in my stereo rack. Sometimes different can be good right?

Great Bang for the Buck

Written By MarkD, New York, NY on Thursday, May 08, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's pretty easy to find negative opinions about Class D amplification. After hearing this amp I'm pretty sure the detractors either haven't heard a Class D amp or haven't heard latest technology. I bought the Peachtree to power a pair of ribbon speakers and couldn't be happier. The bass response is excellent and I've found nothing fatiguing about the highs. This amp compares favorably with any I've owned and is the best I've heard at this price. Given its superior efficiency, Class D should be the future of amplification.
Pros:
bass response, plenty of power, sound great at low volume, great bang for the buck
Cons:
none that I've encountered

high end entry

Written By cb, rolla mo on Monday, April 14, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm glad I made this purchase, also purchased a preamp from a different company at the same time. The combination allows listening longer with more enjoyment than with my previous unit, a high-powered receiver. I can hear "into" the music better, more clarity with noticeably less distortion on complex passages. The amp is both clean and authoritative, good grip on the bass without sacrificing detail in the mids and highs
Pros:
See above. Also very good value, especially at the sale price
Cons:
None

Beautiful...

Written By Dave P, Mystic, CT. on Tuesday, December 17, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to run my fronts -- a pair of PSB Synchrony monitors. I had been using the Marantz 7005 system but wanted some more "oomph" for music listening. My gosh, what a difference. I am no literate audiophile, but I hear things I've never heard before. The clarity is incredible. Very highly recommended!
Pros:
Awesome. Beautiful in its simplicity in design.
Cons:
None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For 33 years I have dreamed of owning a high end powerful amplifier. Turn up the volume and the sound is perfect. No distortion. Tremendous performance with Peachtree Nova Pre and and a pair of Definitive Technology Studio Monitor 65s and ProSub1000s. A truly invigororating experience!
Pros:
Affordable, elegant and sophisticated
Cons:
None

There's no replacement for displacement!

Written By AMB, Frisco, TX on Friday, October 26, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What can you really say about an AMP when your just an average joe that's buying his first power AMP and not really having any real world expectations? Well this is my 3rd PeachTree component so there was absolutely no question on build quality or performance in terms of my other 2 PeachTree components. So I made the plunge knowing that if for whatever reason I needed to send it back, Crutchfield would take care of things without question! My receiver: Onkyo 809 (135 Watts) Speakers: Polk RTi A7's & Polk 550i Subwoofer (Not powered by AMP, just for reference). Its a nice system without the AMP and would be happy with its performance till the day its retired but ONLY if I was never exposed to the "Mr. Hyde" side that this AMP brings to the table.

I can say, well very happy to say that if your pushing some decent speakers and you grab a handful of that volume knob giving it a good twist for the first time, you just might have to wipe a tear from your eye. The performance increase is just incredible and from that day forward, you will never, EVER buy a new sound system without an AMP. It brings the missing piece to what you set out to do in the first place and thats to have a system that provides bass thats tight, clear and can truly feel, mid range you didn't know was possible and highs that are crisp and easy on the ears.

So happy and I hope that this review helps you decide!
Pros:
Its all pro's!
Cons:
You are forever jaded and will never consider a sound system without an AMP ever again!

1 question already asked

will it work with my klipsh heresy 6 ohm speakers. also need a sub output? [ Robert  May 29, 2014 ]
2 answers
  • Robert, It should work well. I have used the 220 with Paradigm 100s and Golden Ear Triton 2s, with great results with either pair of speakers. Both sets of speakers dip into the 4-ohm range at one or more frequencies, and the 220 handles this with aplomb. As for the sub output, that will be a preamp function [ CARL   May 29, 2014 ]
  • You should not have a problem with a 6 ohm speaker since it supports both 8 & 4 ohm configs. No sub output on this unit. You can find additional info on the Peach tree site. [ STEVEN   May 29, 2014 ]
