Peachtree Audio's D4s are true high-end speakers in every way. These little dynamos dish out larger-than-life presence, whether you're listening to discs or digital files. It's no wonder they've picked up The Absolute Sound Editor's Choice Award and Home Theater's Editor's Pick.
Each D4 has a 4" long-throw woofer and vented voice coil, so bass sounds natural and strong. A silk dome tweeter lays on the musical detail without pushing it in your face. The result is terrific fidelity and value. Plus, the D4s are built with thick MDF, so when you lift one you can feel and see the high level of craftsmanship. The beautiful real-wood veneer cabinets are hand-polished to bring a touch of elegance to your room.
To get more kick from your digital music, pair these speakers with one of Peachtree's acclaimed integrated amps, and enjoy audiophile sound direct from your computer.
Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.
Great sounding speakers. Listen to your music the way it was intended to be heard.
Pros: Great sound
Beautiful speakers with excellent sound. Decent and tight bass for their size. Construction is top quality.
Pros: Very good sound, small size, excellent construction, beautiful.
Cons: Relatively expensive.
These bookshelf speakers sound much bigger than they are. I did add a sub-woofer but even with out I was very pleased with the low end that they produce. The speakers are warm, balanced with enough punch to make listening to wide range of musical styles sound great. For the price, they are quite the bargain.
Pros: Warm, balanced, versatile. Big sound for a small speaker.
Amazing sound. I am still breaking in the speakers but after about 20 hours I'm getting some great sounds. I selected several well-engineered and mastered CD's and a high-level digital file (FLAC) to try out after break-in. The first was a CD: Beethoven Symphonies 5 & 9 by the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Herbert Von Karajan. Gorgeous sound. In the 9th you can detect such subtle nuanced sounds. On the vocals you can pick out each individual artist. I am not sure I have heard a better recorded playback of these two pieces than on this amp and speakers. Next was a CD: Classic Sessions by Marty Grosz and Hot Winds. Felt like they were here in the room with me the music was so clear and precise. The piece with the triangle in it just sparkled.
For playback from my Apple computer I chose Derek and the Dominoes Layla and Other Love Songs in a FLAC file using the VOX player. Great sound. Very bright.
These speakers only have 4" woofer and are rated just below 58 in bass, but I was having trouble figuring out exactly what bass I was missing on the orchestra pieces. I had planned to buy a sub-woofer but not sure I really need one with these speakers. I'll listen some more and decide later. Right now I'm just enjoying them.
I paired the speakers with the Peachtree Nova 65se amp, and I got hi-fi level results with this system.
Pros: Bass seems to be far more responsive than specs. Overall sound is bright and clean when needed, full and rich as required. They seem to do everything well. And they look great - housings are A+.
Outstanding bookshelf. Sounds even better than it looks!
Given my extensive search for passive, wood veneer desktop speakers, I'm quite confident that the D4's are the best among options. They meet and exceed my expectations in both sound and build quality. My only wish or thought is that perhaps they could've went with some type of metal infused woofer. My understanding is that rigid woofers produce better sound. I don't know if that understanding is relevant to these speakers though. So this is just a thought, wish or observation. Regardless, I have them paired with a PSB 100 desktop subwoofer, so the full range is covered, to the point of giggles and laughs. I'm totally content and confident that these speakers are the ultimate solution for desktop and HTPC audio.
Pros: Build and sound quality.
Cons: 1) Left speaker emblem was marred. Subsequently, I removed the emblems, carefully with a heat gun. My guess is a hair dryer will work the same. Left no traces of adhesive or damage once properly removed and they look a million times better without the emblems. Don't know why amateur emblems were affixed to the face of an otherwise flawless and magnificent finish. 2) They're expensive for desktop speakers.
Overall sound is superb. I'm the owner of 7 pair of high end speakers, 3 subwoofers, and 5 high end amplifiers, and also a proud owner of a bunch of lower quality equipment. These speakers are at the very TOP of the list. Paired with a Marantz integrated amp from crutchfield (the 80 watt 2 channel amp) and playing only high quaility digital music from laptop through an excellent USB DAC. This setup has me pleased soooo much. Other combinations did not me please me. These speakers sound great and I'm finally done searching for that perfect sound at least for a few months.... Now if my wife could only understand why this setup sounds so much better than the last few...
Pros: Awesome sound even when played loud. Music just sounds better out of these speakers. Incredible build quality - very heavy for their size. Beautiful in cherry finish.
