A pair of analog inputs is perfect for a turntable and phono preamp. This amplifier can serve as the heart of a killer desktop setup or a larger rig in a bedroom or living room.

Improved amplifier design

The nova65SE improves on Peachtree's original nova65 by combining a discrete Class A preamp with a Class D power amplifier. Peachtree borrowed the preamp design from their flagship Grand Series amps. It delivers fine detail and texture that add depth to stereo listening. The power amp is highly efficient, eliminating the need for noisy fans or bulky heat sinks. The nova65SE's clean output is perfectly suited for driving bookshelf speakers with ample power and nuance.

High-resolution upsampling DAC

If you haven't yet discovered high-resolution music, the nova65SE is bound to be an eye-opening starting point. The built-in ESS Sabre digital-to-analog converter is well-regarded in the audiophile community for its ability to reveal all the details in digital high-res files — up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. The DAC even upsamples CD-quality files as well as MP3s to make them sound their absolute best. ESS Technology's Hyperstream Modulator eliminates the timing errors associated with digital conversion, known as jitter, for clean, accurate playback of all your digital music.

Tube buffer

Nothing warms the hearts of true-blue audiophiles like a glowing vacuum tube. And nothing is better at warming up digital music than the nova65SE's triode tube buffer. When you engage it, you'll see it light up blue through the front panel window and hear how it softens the edges of digital tunes for a more analog sound. If the tube sound doesn't do it for you, switch it off and run the amp in pure solid state mode.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Peachtree Audio Nova65SE combines a high-performance, high-resolution digital-to-analog converter (DAC), a class-A preamplifier with built-in tube buffer, a high-quality headphone amplifier and a strong, yet flexible, power amplifiers that is capable of driving virtually any loudspeaker with ease and authority. Its combination of high output power, transparent sound, and digital and analog connectivity make it simple to enjoy all of your music with uncompromising sound quality. With five inputs, including a 24-bit/192kHz Asynchronous USB input you can enjoy computer and streaming audio with incredible high-fidelity sound.

Note: The wood cabinet is sourced from sustainable resources and is available in three premium finishes; rosewood, high-gloss black, and cherry. The front-panel is made from 6mm thick bead blasted aluminum with a soft cool gray finish.

Powerful Amplification: Peachtree amplifiers are rated "all-channels-driven" from 20Hz to 20kHz (full bandwidth of human hearing) to provide "real world" power ratings. Featuring an amplifier that delivers up to 65 watts per channel (8Ω) or 95 watts per channel (4Ω), the nova65SE is the perfect partner for efficient speakers, near-field desktop systems, and for listeners that value quality over quantity of sound.

Discrete Class-A Preamp: The novaSE discrete Class-A preamp output stage combines the musicality of Class-A design with the muscle of Class-D amplification. Signal paths in the novaSE have been made shorter to lower noise and improve transients. The DAC's power supply has also been upgraded with new low-ESR capacitors. The sound is smoother and has improved focus, imaging, and bass definition. Dynamics and micro-detail are greatly improved so you can hear more of what's embedded in the recording.

Selectable Triode Tube Buffer: A selectable triode tube buffer (6N1P) can be turned on for a more natural sound and feel. The tube buffer helps to add a dose of warmth and take the hard edge off compressed audio sources like MP3s. The single 6N1P triode will last years for the average listener; it's easy to change and inexpensive to replace.

High-Resolution 24-Bit/192kHz DAC: The Peachtree Audio Nova65SE features an onboard ESS Sabre upsampling DAC (Digital-to-Analog converter). The 24-bit/192kHz upsampling D/A converter transforms just about any digital source to the performance of a high-end CD player. Using a patented process called Hyperstream, the ESS Sabre DAC buffers the incoming digital bitstream and reclocks it from thousands of picoseconds of jitter to less than 3 picoseconds, before passing it through a high-resolution 24-bit/192kHz upsampling processor, which is also capable of 100dB s/n ratio.

Galvanic Isolation: Galvanic Isolation blocks electrical noise from all of the digital inputs on the Nova65SE. Computers and digital streamers are prime sources of electrical noise. Electrical noise, even noise that you can't hear directly, masks fine details and distorts the tone of music. Galvanic isolation eliminates this noise.

24-Bit/192kHz Asynchronous USB Input: The Nova65SE has a 24-bit/192kHz Asynchronous USB (type-B) input to connect your computer. The unit's USB (type-B) connection will take digital audio content from your computer and send it to the internal DAC of the Nova65SE via I2S configuration. Using the Nova65SE, you can take a pure digital audio signal from iTunes, Windows Media, or any other music management system on your computer before it goes through a sound card. Just hook up a 2.0 USB cable between your computer and the Nova65SE's USB (type-B) port; no sound card is required.

  • System Requirements: The Nova65SE supports Mac computers with OSX 10.6.5 or newer and Windows PC with XP, 7, or 8. Windows PCs will require an additional USB audio driver for playback of 24-bit/192kHz music files (CD-ROM with Windows USB Audio Driver included).
  • Compatible Music Files: The Nova 125 can decode MP3,WMA, FLAC, AIFF, WAV, and Apple lossless codecs; with resolutions of 16-bit/44.1kHz, 16-bit/48kHz, 24-bit/88kHz, 24-bit/96kHz, 24-bit/176kHz, and 24-bit/192kHz.

Optical & Coaxial Digital Inputs: The Nova65SE is equipped with two optical (toslink) and one coaxial (RCA) digital inputs for connecting external digital audio sources such as your Blu-ray/DVD player, cable/satellite box, or Apple TV. The optical digital inputs support up to 24-bit/96kHz, while the coaxial digital input supports up to 24-bit/192kHz.

Analog Input: The Nova65SE if fitted with a single stereo analog RCA input for connecting an external audio source, such as your SACD play, phono-preamp & turntable, network player, or AM/FM tuner.

Audiophile Headphone Amplifier: The Nova65SE has a "Class A, tube" headphone section. The Peachtree Audio Nova65SE utilizes a front-panel, 1/4" headphone input which mutes the speakers when headphones are plugged in.

  • Output Power: 117mW into 32Ω or 182mW into 300Ω  (0.1% THD)
  • Output Impedance: 4.7Ω
  • Frequency Response: 20Hz to 20kHz (+/- 0.1dB)
  • THD+N: 0.006% (300Ω, 0dB, 1V in)

Binding-Post Speaker Terminals: The unit's binding-post speaker terminals are clearly marked red-positive and black-negative for proper polarity connections. The amplifier's binding-post speaker terminals will accommodate bare wire (up to 10AWG), banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, and spade-connectors. Use speakers with a nominal impedance between 3-16Ω.

Pre-Out: The stereo RCA preamp-outputs allow you to use an external amplifier with the Nova65SE; they also provide connections for a powered subwoofer.

Remote Control: The Nova65SE comes supplied with an IR remote control which is easy to use. The remote control offers the same functions as the Nova65SE's front-panel controls, plus adds a mute button. The remote is powered by two "AAA" batteries (not supplied). The remote control IR sensor is located in the center of the Nova65SE's front-panel.

USB Charging Port: The rear-panel USB (type-A) charging port provides a 5-volt DC output for mobile devices that charge via USB. This USB port does support audio playback.

12V Trigger Output: The 12V trigger output (3.5mm) enables power on/off control of another component with a 12V trigger input.

Q
How would one attach a sub to this? I don't see a sub out but someone else was talking about a sub. Audio newbie here.

This amp does not have a dedicated sub out connection. What must be done to connect a powered subwoofer to it, is use the Pre-Out jacks on the back and run an RCA cable from those jacks to a subwoofer equipped to handle the RCA input. You should actually only need one line since bass is a mono signal carried in both left and right channels, but go ahead and use both if the subwoofer is so equipped. It is important to note here that the Pre-Out signal is full range frequency, not preprocessed for low frequency bass only and is made primarily to send a signal to another amplifier if you want to run more full range speakers or a biamplified speaker. This amp is excellent when used for its intended purpose which is a high quality stereo amplifier, such that you would connect it to front channel speakers capable of carrying full range without the need for a subwoofer. Unfortunately, most new speakers these days can't produced enough low end so people add a subwoofer, but there are some good new speakers out there that can get the job done and they are not all huge in size. This amp also requires about 20 hours of run time from its first use in order to start getting rich tonality and lower bass output from the main speaker outputs.

The preamp out on the back is the subwoofer output.

Yes, you plug the single lead into the "Pre Out". I used the lower one of the two, on the back, left side of the unit looking at it from the back. Black colored RCA plug in.

Wesley, on the back panel there is a set of RCA outputs labeled "Pre Out". These are right next to the "Aux In", and can be used to attach a subwoofer. Enjoy!

There's a pre-out line. Regular RCA cable.

I actually recently purchased an SVS sub for this amp, and you can indeed connect a sub to it via the pre-out inputs. You have to use a standard red/white RCA cable and from there just control the volume and crossover on the back of the subwoofer.
