About the Peachtree Audio nova125

Woody Sherman

More power to you

Peachtree Audio's original Nova integrated amp/DAC was an instant classic when introduced: versatile, impeccably built and impressively capable. But the power it generated topped out at 80 watts into 6 ohms, and for some, that wasn't enough. Peachtree heard the input from their fans, went back to the design lab, and came up with the nova125, a refined re-imagining of that earlier model. From the muscular, ultra clean 125 watts of power it generates into each channel, to the redesigned asynchronous USB input/DAC combination that tames all digital sources, the nova125 stands ready to serve as the beating heart of your audiophile music system.

Refined, warm, and detailed

Subtle refinements will help you wrest every bit of musical enjoyment from your music library. A single 6N1P triode vacuum tube, inexpensive and easy to find, sits at the core of the switchable preamp stage, and will warm and smooth your file-based and streaming digital music sources on demand. It can also be switched on for the built-in headphone amplifier, for a pleasing private listening experience.

Galvanic isolation on all digital inputs means your music won't be contaminated by electrical noise, a common problem with computer sources. And rest assured, "jitter," a common source of musical degradation from computer sources, won't be a problem. The processing path features a 24-bit/192kHz asynchronous USB input and an ESS Sabre 9023 upsampling DAC. Together they buffer and reclock all digital bitstreams so that jitter errors amount to less than 3 picoseconds. You don't need to know how much that is. You just need to know it's inaudible.

One-box solution

If you had to pick a component, just one component, that would truly "up your game" when considering a stereo system, the Peachtree Audio nova125 would be an excellent place to start. Not only does it sound great and power the world's most demanding speakers, it looks great too, with a stylish, modern flair and three finishes to complement your listening room decor.

Integrated Amplifier

Overview: The Peachtree Audio Nova 125 is a 125-watt x 2-channel integrated amplifier with digital and analog inputs and outputs so you can connect both your digital and analog audio components. The Nova 125 has a USB input for your computer, in addition to three digital inputs for other digital sources (like Squeezebox, Wadia iTransport, Sonos, Roku Soundbridge, and SiriusXM tuners). It also has one stereo analog input for docking stations, CD players, tape decks or phono preamps. If you want to add a subwoofer or outboard amplifier, the Nova 125 features a preamp-output output.

125W x 2Ch Amplifier: The 125 watt per channel Power Amp is the newest generation of Class D technology. It takes audio performance to a whole new level with advances including extended bandwidth, improved dynamic range, and exceptionally low distortion. These high current output stages can comfortably drive any speaker load from 2 ohms. This amplifier has enough muscle to power any speaker you use and sounds great at any volume.

Tube Buffer: The Tube Buffer (6N1P)can be switched on via a button on the remote control to add a dose of warmth and take the hard edge off compressed audio sources like MP3s.

High-Quality D/A Converter: The Peachtree Audio Nova 125 features an onboard ESS Sabre 9023 upsampling DAC (Digital-to-Analog converter). The 24-bit/192kHz upsampling D/A converter transforms just about any digital source to the performance of a high-end CD player. Using a patented process called Hyperstream, the ESS Sabre DAC buffers the incoming digital bitstream and reclocks it from thousands of picoseconds of jitter to less than 3 picoseconds, before passing it through a high-resolution 24-bit/192kHz upsampling processor, which is also capable of 96dB s/n ratio.

Galvanic Isolation: Galvanic Isolation blocks electrical noise from all of the digital inputs on the Nova 125. Computers and digital streamers are prime sources of electrical noise. Electrical noise, even noise that you can't hear directly, masks fine details and distorts the tone of music. Galvanic isolation eliminates this noise.

Regulated Power Supplies: The Peachtree Audio Nova 125 employs 11 regulated power supplies for the DAC and transformer-couples each digital input stage so noise associated with ground problems and switching power supplies is eliminated. The Nova 125 features a multi-voltage, switchable, toroidal power transformer. For international use, the Nova 125 allows you to switch its voltage.

Tube Window: The Nova 125 features a tube window which allows you to view the glow of the unit's tube.

Audio Connections

24-bit/192kHz Asynchronous USB Input: The Nova 125 has a 24-bit/192kHz Asynchronous USB input to connect your computer. The unit's USB type-B connection will take digital audio content from your computer and send it to the internal DAC of the Nova 125 via I2S configuration. Using the Nova 125, you can take a pure digital audio signal from iTunes, Windows Media, Front Row, or any other music management system on your computer before it goes through a sound card. Just hook up a 2.0 USB cable between your computer and the Nova 125's USB type-B port; no sound card is required. The Nova 125 can decode MP3, MP44, WMA, FLAC, AIFF, WAV, and Apple lossless codecs; with resolutions of 16-bit/44.1kHz, 16-bit/48kHz, 24-bit/88kHz, 24-bit/96kHz, 24-bit/176kHz, and 24-bit/192kHz.

Analog Input: The Nova 125 if fitted with a single stereo analog RCA input for connecting an external audio source, such as your CD player or Tape deck.

Digital Audio Inputs: The Nova 125 is equipped with one optical (24-bit/96kHz) and two coaxial (24-bit/192kHz) digital inputs for connecting external digital audio sources such as your Blu-ray/ DVD player or cable/satellite box.

Pre-Out: The stereo RCA preamp-outputs allow you to use an external amplifier with the Nova 125; they also provide connections for a powered subwoofer.

Speaker Terminals: The unit's binding-post speaker terminals are clearly marked red-positive and black-negative for proper polarity connections. The amplifier's binding-post speaker terminals will accommodate bare wire (up to 10AWG), banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, and spade-connectors.

Headphone Output: The Nova 125 has a "Class A, tube" headphone section. The Peachtree Audio Nova 125 utilizes a front-panel, 1/4" headphone input which mutes the speakers when headphones are plugged in.

Remote Control

Remote Control: The Nova 125 comes supplied with an IR remote control which is easy to use. The remote control offers the same functions as the Nova 125's front-panel controls, plus adds a mute button. The remote is powered by two "AAA" batteries (not supplied). The remote control IR sensor is located in the center of the Nova 125's front-panel.

I have a pair KEF R300 speakers 8ohm 20-120 watts. I read that an amp needs to be 50% more powerful to drive them. I'm confused what Peachtree amp is right for these speakers?

I don't have any experience with 6 ohm speakers, so cannot say for sure. I have emailed Peachtree directly with my own questions, and they answered quickly.
