Liven up outdoor gatherings with Definitive Technology's popular AW6500.
Rich, dynamic Definitive Technology sound meets rugged all-weather construction in the AW6500 outdoor speaker. It features some of the same advanced technologies as Definitive's highly acclaimed indoor speakers, but it's ready to stand up to the hardships of outdoor living. Install a pair near the pool, on your deck, or even in a sauna — their non-resonant PolyStone enclosures are fully sealed and built for direct exposure to the elements. And the included bracket lets you rotate the speaker up to 360° for maximum flexibility.
Definitive pairs a 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter with a 6-1/2" woofer for accurate reproduction of the voices and instruments in your music. The woofer uses Definitive's BDSS (Balanced Double Surround System) design for accurate response across a wide frequency range. A pressure-coupled, racetrack-shaped radiator reinforces the output of the woofer, for overall bass that's equivalent to that of a 10" woofer. (Pretty cool for an outdoor speaker that's sized to fit under roof eaves.) You'll get deep lows to round out the sound of your favorite tunes.
Your new speakers will probably sound better after several weeks of use than they do right out of the box. That's because the material surrounding the woofers will loosen up, allowing the drivers to move more fully. Definitive Technology estimates a break-in period of 24 to 48 hours of playback before the speakers will deliver optimum sound quality. For more information and helpful tips, check out this article from Definitive's website about conditioning your speakers.
Outdoor speakers are built tough -- they laugh at wind, rain and weather. Tuck a pair under your eaves and they'll pump out the tunes to keep everybody smiling and swaying at your next cookout or pool party. We also have some "rock" speakers that blend seamlessly into your landscaped lawn or garden.
I have been looking for some good out door speakers for my sports court. I decided to go with AW6500's. I mounted these speakers under my covered deck over looking my sports court and can I say BOOM baby. These speakers are very good sounding with great bass which my kids love while out on the court with friends. I am pushing the speakers with a Crown XLS 2002. Sound is great VERY loud and deep bass. I am very pleased so far.
Pros: Bass, Bass, and more bass
Cons: Nothing I can think of. You get what you pay for.
First time to buy any outdoor speakers. So I purchased Definitive Technology AW6500s based on previous Crutchfield reviews for my patio. Mounted under the eave as recommended. Amazing sound right out of the box. Sound quality is crisp at all sound levels.
Pros: Sharp design and very easy to install
I was looking for an outdoor speaker system to provide better bass response compared with my old Bose 151SE units. I have been very pleased with their performance to date in delivering full, accurate sound to our outdoor environment.
Pros: Rich, full sound
I just got these about a week ago and got them hooked up outside around the pool area. They sound crystal clear and great.
Love the sound quality on these speakers, nice housing and hardware, very easy to adjust and install. Bass while very good not what I expected after reading other reviews but not shabby, overall they sound fantastic. 6.5" drivers can only do so much, and my location could be better in some respects for bass response. Love the fact that these are made in Baltimore and not overseas, a true quality American product! Yah!
Pros: Nice clean sound, very spacious, no distortion with quality amp. Nice hardware, easy to mount and adjust.
Cons: Rather large, bass less than expected but without a sub to be expected. Price is up there but you get what you pay for.
excellent bass and highs
Pros: fills the void for bass in an outdoor setting
Cons: none- very pleased
Amazing full sou ding speaker. Delivers full range of sound, highs and base. I had the big Klipsch speakers outside, also great but more directional, and they didn't fill the space on the deck. These do a great job with the by p ointment the mid and high toward the listening area, and letting the base bounce of the walls and fill the space. Great choice, produces a full rich sound.
Pros: All weather, reflective, easy install, sounds great
Cons: If you have the room for them there are no cons, if space is a limited these might not work for you
Sounds really as described in reviews and by Crutchfield support team. Haven't compared with any other speaker. I need to install in the patio that's when I can really comment.
Cons: Slightly bigger than expected but I was told that's why they sound so good.
As usual Crutchfield did NOT let me down. I made a purchase back in 2008 and when the tec support helped guide me to the equipment I purchased based off of my living room layout, what I was planning on doing and what I expected with success I had to see them again for what kind of outdoor speakers to get. Again based off of my backyard layout and what I was looking to hear I was suggested to purchase these speakers. I mounted mine under the eve and to the house itself. Beautiful sound and good base. Thanks again Crutchfield
Pros: Plenty satisfied with the volume not even halfway. crisp and clear - so clear it just gives me chills - very nice sound and will help drive me to get more outside work accomplished
Cons: This might lead me to drink more often
So far the product is meeting expectations. Haven't had much time to use as of yet. Thanks
Great speaker,very rugged
I bought these same speakers for my back yard several years ago and just love the clear and crisp sound that they deliver, so I decided to buy a second pair for my garage. Because outdoor speakers tend to be made of more durable materials (e.g. some speakers use Kevlar cones and drivers) I also expect that means some compromise on sound quality, but not so with these speakers. Aside from their clarity, they also have an excellent range from lows to highs and everything in between.
Pros: *Clear, crisp sound *Speakers themselves seem highly durable
Cons: *On my older speakers (same model) I have noticed that the grills are now loose on both, just hanging off of the speaker a bit
Only had them for a short time, so far they sound great.
Great set of speakers! After hooking them up bass was good but after the break in period they ended up sounding much fuller and the bass was great! Highly recommend these!
Pros: Great bass output (after break in)
Purchased to replace old Dual outdoor speakers at our community pool. It's a large area to fill and these do it very well. Pretty good bass and very nice mid. Very easy to install with the included bracket.
I purchased four AW6500's to replace my aging Infinity Outrigger (large ones) speakers on my deck. As the Infinity's were still kicking after 10 years, they were getting a bit tired from being exposed to the elements 365 days a year (snow, rain, etc.). Everyone raves about the bass response of the AW6500's ... I honestly don't think the bass response is any better than my Infinity's were at normal listening volumes. You really have to put some power into the AW's to make them sing ... once you do, they sound awesome, but, are lacking at lower volumes, in my opinion. Now, DT claims to have a 20-40 hour' break-in' period for the sound to be at it's best. To summarize, these are very expensive, but, are worth it if you are going to push them. If you are looking for low-volume only speakers, these may not be a good choice for the cost. Thank goodness, I am going to push these on occasion. Hope that helps!
Pros: Sound fantastic at loud volumes.
Cons: Pricey Lack of bass response at low volumes.
Purchased these to replace a pair of NXG AW-6's that were installed when my home was built. Powered by a Yamaha receiver with 7.2 surround, using zone 2 for outside, the speakers are located on the ceiling of a large covered patio and are configured to take advantage of the radiators bouncing sound off the walls. The speakers are slightly bigger and heavier than the NXG's, but they're built almost identically (solid build). After just a couple of hours of use, the speakers sound clean and have plenty of volume for the area. That said, I expected more filling bass from the radiator design. While listening to music, it's still a huge disappointment walking from inside the house to the patio. Any returning guests that visit this summer will not notice that I replaced the speakers. In retrospect, I wish I had purchased a separate receiver for the patio to move out there for weekends and left the old speakers in place for casual use.
Pros: Solidly built
Cons: Very marginal improvement over cheaper speakers
After a bit of online research I settled on these speakers for my screened porch. I wanted the best bass response possible for a reasonable cost. Based on lots of online reviews and my experience with some Def Tech bookshelf speakers in my living room, I decided on the AW6500s. They were a bit more than I wanted to spend, but so far I am happy with my choice. I have about 15 hours on them and they keep sounding better, so I am really anticipating their being fully broken in.
Pros: Sound quality: very clear and detailed with very good bass for their size Ease of installation Quality construction and warranty
As mentioned by most reviews these are excellent speakers. As mentioned by most reviews, these are high quality speakers. They are some of the best speakers at this price level.
Pros: Sounds great, easy install
Cons: Cost, cost, cost
It took me a long time to decide on what outdoor speakers to purchase. I'm glad I chose the AW 6500 instead of a less expensive pair. The sound is incredible. The best part is the bass that comes thru the speakers without a sub woofer. The instructions for installation were clear and any questions were answered by one of the techs. Also ordered the preferred speaker wire so it was a complete package.
Pros: Bass sound, assistance from the techs.
I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of sound that spreads through my backyard. the speakers look good and were simple to install. spring is here so let the party begin!
These speakers do not sound too bad. They have great highs and mids. They are very efficient so a smaller amp. will make them sound good, unlike what the sales adviser told me. (ie 50W x 50W or higher) They have pretty good bass, however push the bass hard and you will get pops, like the cone slamming into the magnet. Not too impressed with that for the price. Also they have 5 and 3/8" driver, not 6 and 1/2" as advertised. They are superior to the cheap KLH and Advent models. I sent mine back and I'm happy with the PSB's I bought here. My system is powered by... Carver : CT-17 Preamp. Adcom: GFA-555 power amp. Pioneer PDR-W739 CD Player/Recorder. Polk Audio: SR-H1000 Sirius Tuner. Keep in mind they have awesome mids. and Highs, bass is descent.
Pros: Good Mids. and Highs.
Cons: Woofer pops when bass is pushed hard.
Items received on time and in good condition
I am a novice at stereos but I bought these speakers for my son for his birthday. He wanted outdoor speakers that matched a Yamaha receiver. He installed them under the eaves of a outdoor workshop and ran the wiring to a receiver that is in the workshop. Installation was simple and we had Crutchfield experts available if we ran into trouble (That is why we order from Crutchfield--expert advice and expert help.)
Pros: very nice looking. Deliver great sound.
Cons: Heavy - if you are mounting under the eaves so you must have adequate support.
I bought a pair of Definitive Technology AW6500's 18 months ago. I mounted them under the eaves of the house directed at the fire-pit in the back yard about 50 feet away. These speakers are tremendous at any sound level! Whether at the end of the night with the embers dying and the levels low, or midday with the music cranked and conversation lively, they cut through with clarity and musicality that I haven't heard from any other brand. They are never tinny, they handle the lows and mids very well, and they have a wide sound field that fills the backyard. I run them through a Denon Ceol Piccolo networked receiver. There is nothing better than sitting outside by the fire, using your smartphone to control the Denon, and having near living-room quality audio at your command. I've owned Bose and Polk Audio, and I am very familiar with Klipcsh, and I am extremely happy with my decision to buy the Definitive Technology speakers. So happy that I just ordered an additional pair to face the deck off the side of the house!
Pros: Wide sound field Smooth across the sound spectrum Great sound at all sound levels Quality of construction
I bought these based on the many sales and good reviews that I had read about them. I'm doing an outdoor-backyard theater for an area that's about 25' x 25'. When I first pulled the speakers out of the box, I was a little skeptical. I love Polk speakers and I was torn between the AW6500 and the comparable Polk Atrium 8 for my front Left and Right. I thought that the Definitive enclosure felt kinda cheap and the brackets were a little too flexible. In comparison, I also purchased the Polk Atrium 7's as my rear surrounds and I felt that the enclosures and mounting method were WAY better. I was really concerned that I was going to have to return the speakers, thinking they were going to sound cheap, but instead I really enjoyed them. I thought the volume and clarity were really good, but there was a definite sweet spot in sound direction. I ran them earlier in the day to play the radio while I set up the movie and worked in the backyard. You can really hear the sound change as you walk by. I still think they were great as L&R speakers in the movie, but if I had to do it again, I would have bought the Polk Atrium 8's.
Pros: Good clean sound
Cons: Cheap enclosure/bracket. Sweet spot listening to music.
Great sound and great Price !!!
I had heard the 5500 in a sound room of a store and bought the 6500's. The sound is really nice from these speakers. Crisp highs, the speakers were doing well with the lowes as well. Still in the break in period but so far very happy with them. They are perfect for a party if you want to crank them up. Sound nice and clear even With them at a lower level. I would recommend these speakers.
Pros: Great sound, got them in white they look good on the house.
Cons: None so far, if you want that deeper bass you will need a sub.
Replaced 16 year old outdoor speakers on pool deck with the Definitive Technology AW-6500. The sound improvement is awesome! You can really crank up the sound when needed with pure music sound. Our pool deck is now rocking to Summer Oldies.
Pros: Easy to install and pleasing appearance
Cons: So far, none!
Great sound qualities, well made. I'm very happy with the clarity and balance produced.
Pros: Great sound and looks.
Cons: 1) Banana plugs will limit the movement of the speaker within the hanging bracket - no problems without the banana plugs. 2) Expensive price. 3) Light weight - I expected them to weigh more.
I had loved what I read about them. But as usual, a little skeptical as to the final judgement. My Crutchfield Advisor told me they were spot on!! He was spot on as well!! They are AWESOME!! Could not have chosen a better set for the pool area outside!! The rest of my outdoor speakers are Bose regular outdoor speakers. These sound GREAT!!!! Blows the others away. Great Sound, Rich Bass, good indoor speaker quality for outside. Perfect for what I needed around the pool!!
Pros: Sound as good as good indoor speakers. Rich base, overall GREAT SOUND!!
Cons: None really.
The best outdoor speakers I have ever purchased. I replaced a outdated set of Bose. The Definitive Technology speakers outshine the older bose in everything aspect. The ability to adjust for maximum base is outstanding. The bass is deep and rich. They are a must for any outdoor space.
Pros: Sound bass adjustments
My wife and I were delighted by the sound coming from these speakers. The highs are brilliant the midrange and bass come across with authority. Mounting them on stucco siding dose take some extra work but is very do able.
Pros: sound, appearance
The best outdoor speakers I'vre heard. Clear sound and great Bass..
Pros: Excellent sound great Bass
Love these new Definitive Technology AW 6500 Outdoor Speakers. I was thinking I would have to spend more money on a powered subwoofer to get good bass outside, but these speakers blew me away. Full rich bass sound and great mid and high range also. Our 20'x40' covered deck is enveloped in great sound now thanks to these speakers.
Pros: Easy install, sounds great, looks great too! With a little positioning, you can change the bass reflection to suit your area.
Cons: That I did not have these years ago!
Have had cheaper speakers in the past and have not been happy with the sound quality. Decided to go with a better quality speaker on my new 16'X18' covered porch. Sound quality is amazing. Am very happy with them. The installation instructions were good and the install was easy. Look forward to many years of good sound.
These speakers sound great. 75 feet out in the yard they still sound great and provide good bass. I would recommend these speakers over others I've heard.
Pros: Great sound without distortion at all volumes.
Cons: not really a con, but be aware of the size of these guys. They are not small speakers.
These speakers were easy to install in my new screened porch. They are attractive. The instructions were easy to understand, especially that the base side of the speaker needs to be near a wall or ceiling for appropriate bounce into the listening area. I have not had them up to full volume yet (again following instructions; they need to be broken in) but at low and medium volume they are magnificent. I am very happy with them and would recommend them.
Pros: easy installation
Cons: expense--but I guess high quality doesn't come free!
Speakers look and sound amazing
Pros: Great sound
These replaced Boston Voyager 7's which cost more, have less frequency response, & handle less power !!
Pros: Power handling, frequency response, & great sound.
Want an outstanding sound outdoors ? This is what you need . I replaced my Bose 151's with these Definitive Technology AW 6500's and was blown away , with the killer sound I am receiving from these speakers . I am driving them with my Yamaha RX - A1020 . Geez !!!! Enough said .
Pros: Super Great Bass . Very easy to install . Don't need to turn up the volume , to get a great sound but , you can crank these babies up , and they will fill your ears full of sounds that you have never heard before . I RECOMMEND THESE SPEAKERS FOR ANYONE THAT HAS A PASSION FOR GREAT SOUND , AS I DO . YES.....
Cons: None at all .
Exactly what you expect from DT. Great quality speakers. These have a good bass response and sound travels well around my pool. They are easy to mount and hold up well in several storms we've had thus far.
Pros: Excellent sound, easy to mount, good over all bass without a sub.
Cons: They are pricey but worth it.
incredible speakers. worth every penny. the louder you turn them up, the better they sound. powering them with a Yamaha RX-A1020. exceeded my expectations. could not be more pleased with the sound they produce.
Pros: sound produced at high volume is still crystal clear.
Good looking design and easy to install. Sound is very good and clear for balconies.
I installed these outside in my covered patio. The sound is fantastic. The bass response is excellent, even at low volume. My covered patio is 10'x30' and the sound is evenly distributed. I can play these speakers at low level and hear crisp music with great bass response, and still be able to carry a conversation. They are a bit pricey, but well worth the money if you enjoy entertaining outside and enjoy carrying a conversation without raising your voice above the speakers.
Pros: Easy installation, great sound.
Cons: A little on the high end cost-wise, but well worth it !!
Stunning sound ! I placed 4 of these 6500's across my 40 ft porch 12 ft high an powered them with a yamaha rxa 2020. Staggered the inputs starting on left , right, left, right. powered by 2 zones. Anywhere on the porch you get a stereo sound from this. Move out to the end of the pier and using Yamhas AV App, crank up the amps with your phone an shut your eyes for a outdoor concert. Sounds very nice at all levels. Nicer louder. Even nicer LOUDER. Having neighbors 500 ft away sucks. You will not waste your money buying these. Catch them on sale at Crutchfield an buy all you can. I've had mine 12 months they are as sharp as can be. I also used 4 anchors apiece because they can shake the wall. P.S. talk with their rep. He gave some fine points about these that i liked.
Pros: No work gets done after the sun goes down anymore.
Cons: Work is stacking up.
Awesome speakers. I installed them at the pool and they rock.
Love, love, love the sound.
Pros: I wanted good speakers and these definitely are.
Cons: Expensive, but worth it.
Replaced older pair of Niles with these recommended by a Crutchfield rep. I ordered them before I finished a porch project and set on them awhile before putting them up. They sound ok, but the boxes rattle at high volume and they are a lot hollower sound than the Niles. I am sure if I would have called Crutchfield they would have let me send them back and get the Niles, but I never did. I put my old 11 year old Niles up in the Pergola in the backyard, so I will end up getting the 7" Niles for my porch and put the DT's up in the Pergola. (Running them off Yamaha RX-V2600)
Pros: They sound good at low volume.
Cons: Look cheap and rattle like cheap speakers at high volume.
I installed these on my house over my patio. The speakers are just a little bigger than I expected but were easy to install. I drive them with a Crown XLS-1000 Class D amp, which is probably a bit more power than they need and not super refined. Music source is a mini headphone jack for my kids to plug their smart phones into. The speakers go plenty loud with clarity, and sound great. Bass is superb at low to reasonable volume levels, but begins to struggle if you try to make your patio sound like a club. I have no idea how durable they will be - mine are quite exposed to the Idaho elements, but have only been installed for a couple of weeks. Time will tell.
Pros: Great sound, easy to install. Generally perform per expectations, which were high based upon my experience with Def Tech..
Cons: On the large side.
I have a large outside space (1.5 acres) and these speaker provide clear sound to all parts of it. Even at high volumes there is no distortion.
Pros: Great sound, nice look (paintable), and good value.
Cons: Installing requires the anchors to be exactly 9" apart. I installed into the mortar between bricks and found it difficult to get the separation to be that exact.
Phil Lesh's base on good old Grateful Dead sounded great right out of the box. I didn't even mount them yet. Very satisfied. So clean and crisp. Fun to do yard work with superior sounds. I have to pause the music when I mow because I don't want to miss a thing.
Pros: Sound and base response.
These speakers have great sound and extremely great base the rear firing base is great brings big sound to the out doors
Pros: Easy install great sound
Better sounding that the bose 251 and klipsch kho7 that it replaced.
Pros: I am hearing instruments very clear and bass it better than expected. Can take a lot of power although pretty loud at only 100 watts of a HK stereo receiver.
Cons: None yet.
I always thought of outdoor speakers as having a cheap sound. These brought an instant smile to my face after laboring over half a day running wire from amp - under house to screened porch at end of house and mounting them to the wall. Very nice bass and clear highs. Pleased.
Pros: Great sound. Small size.
These speakers replaced my Bose 151's - those were good - but not great. They lacked depth and sharpness. I was hesitant to spend any money whatsoever but absolutely am in love with these speakers. First day they were installed, I spent 4 hours just sitting out there listening. Buy them - you won't be disappointed!
Pros: sound quality and range for outdoor speakers
Cons: a tad pricey, but you get what you pay for
Did a lot of homework, if you want to do it right the first time outside? Then combine the Sony 1040 receiver and the 6500 Def Tech speakers. No need for subwoofer at all! AWESOME!!!
After reading the glowing reviews here and elsewhere, I bought a pair of these speakers to replace my trusty Niles Audio OS-20's that had given 13 years of faithful service - and provided great sound - out on our lanai.
Break-in of audio components can be important, and I was surprised to find that the owner's manual actually addressed this topic. Impressive! Though these speakers were destined for outdoor use, I initially connected them to my main 2-channel system for initial break-in and evaluation. At first they sounded a bit flat and congested, but they opened up noticeably after only a few hours of playing time. By the time I had logged the recommended 40 hours, I had spent several very long and enjoyable evenings sitting in front of these speakers, marveling at how well they acquitted themselves in a mega-bucks audiophile system! They have a nice, even tonal balance, and are clear and detailed. And they actually do a few audiophile tricks surprisingly well; I was particularly impressed with their imaging, soundstaging, and their dynamics. Unbelievable for a relatively inexpensive pair of outdoor speakers!
In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with these speakers for outdoor use. And you may just find that you'll want to use them indoors, too!
Pros: Nice build quality Even tonal balance Clear and detailed sounding Great imaging and soundstaging for an outdoor speaker Mid-range is unusually realistic for a speaker in this price range
Cons: Positioning for best sound outdoors can be tricky. You'll want to experiment with placement in order to maximize bass response and minimize boominess / boxiness.
One of the best outdoor speakers on the market today. I love the passive "sub" feature which helps with applications without subs. Imaging is fantastic and the build quality is solid.
Pros: Reasonable price, unobtrusive appearance, fantastic sound quality for any speaker (indoor or out), passive "sub"
These speakers are absolutely phenomenal. We bought these to replace our worn out outdoor speakers around our pool and patio area. I researched for two months before deciding on these. The price seemed reasonable after reading the other positive reviews on blogs. I must say these speakers sound better than others out there that cost a lot more. The reproduction of the music (highs, mids and lows) is more than I expected. To put it plain and simple our neighbor called the cops on us the first night that I installed them. Well worth the money!!
Pros: Great sound. Easy to install.
I have heard several different sets of Definitive Technology tower speakers over the years and have consistently liked their full range sound and neutrality. That is what got me interested in the AW 6500. I figured they would have the same "house sound" that I like in their other models, but obviously with less low end frequency response because of their size.
I have the pair of these connected to the second zone of my Denon AVR-2808CI (110W, 8ohm), they play louder than I will ever need and their sound is reasonably full for their size. Maybe my expectations were unreasonably high, but for the price and an afternoon up and down a ladder trying out different locations under my eave, I am just not impressed. Regardless of where you place them, they have an inherent "boxiness" to them, like the cabinet is not rigid enough and resonates along with the drivers. I even played them inside set atop stands to see if I just had bad acoustics outside, but I heard the same "boxy" sound. To my ear, a decent table radio like the Sonos is more pleasant to listen to (but obviously can't be left outside).
I enjoy having music outdoors too much to send these back, so I will keep them until I find something I like better. However, once I do, I will sell these or give them to a friend. They are not bad speakers, but for the price I was really hoping to like them more. I do not recommend these without listening to them first.
Pros: Can play loud, full sound Unobtrusive appearance when mounted horizontally
Cons: Boxy sounding Placement sensitive bass For the price I would be sure to shop around because I don't think that these are worth it.
These speakers are awesome! It's hard to believe such great sound comes in a small package. I recently finished my deck and was looking for a pair of speakers that would give me some good sound at a good price. I've had them for a month now and had two parties since then. Received many compliments on the speakers...was asked for their details so they could purchase them too.
Pros: Easy to mount and position. Amazing bass and sound. Don't waste your time looking buy these.
I just completed renovating my backyard with a 1400 sf deck, half of which is covered by a roof extension and a 12' x 12' gazebo. I installed two of these speakers inside the gazebo area (pointed inward) and two on the roof extension pointed outward. I connected them to a Yamaha RX-A720 and use AirPlay to play music thru them. Mostly light rock, easy listening type of music. I was skeptical whether or not I would need a subwoofer to get decent bass response from outdoor speakers such as these, but as it turned out my worries were unfounded. These speakers have really great bass response and are crystal clear, no subwoofer required! I am extremely happy with the quality and amplitude of the sound. Overall fantastic speakers.
Pros: Great volume from such a small speaker Great bass response Crystal clear highs and midrange
Cons: None noted.
Absolutely amazing sound. Mounted horizontally against the siding on the wall above the sliding doors behind my deck. I hooked them up to an 80s vintage high end Tanberg 100 wpc amp. I auditioned them with a soundboard recording of the 5/1/81 Hampton VA Dead show and was completely floored! The soundstage is spectacular. Sounded like Jerry was coming from my neighbor's yard! Despite being outdoors, the bass response from the passive radiator is not lacking and even needs to be toned down at times. These speakers would still be worth the money if they cost more:-)
Pros: amazing soundstage, great response across the spectrum including the low end
Very pleased with the Definitive Technology AW 6500s. I attached two AW 6500s under my new patio pergola. They provide very dynamic sound in my outdoor area and we're very pleased with the sound quality. We looked at many other speakers, but ultimately settled on the 6500s because they provide the best bass response for the dollar.
Pros: Superb overall sound quality
As all def-tch speakers, these are the best in $200 price range you can buy. I hooked them up with Maranz 7007 receiver and the sound is just amazing. The whole spectrum from highs to lows is there. My backyard is 300' deep and you can clearly hear the music all the way in the back. Playing loud music with lots of bases easily reorganizes glassware in my kitchen cabinets hanging back to back with my speakers. Highly recommended, you're not gonna regret it.
Pros: Base is so good, you think there is subwoofer
Great outside speakers. I have Definitive speakers inside, but was amazed that their outside speakers sound so clear and the bass tones do not vibrate the speakers when I am playing dance music.
Pros: Sound quality is amazing.
Cons: None so far.
Mounted to a pretty open back wall of my home. Nothing above or around them for sound to bounce off of. They sound amazing. Running with a Sonance 260x3 MKII using pre outs from my Denon Receiver. Their bass is impressive. Much fuller sound than the Yamaha's they replaced. Paired them up with 2 Polk Atrium Sub10s and it sounds excellent. Very pleased and would buy again!
Pros: Amazing sound quality, Bass response
The idea: Find a solution to deliver music to the deck and backyard. Big clear sound was a must.
The choices: I was trying to decide between a Soundcast Outcast portable music system and static, wired outdoor speakers.
Ultimately I decided to go with wired speakers and I couldn't be happier. I selected the DT AW6500 after considering other outdoor speaker options and decided that spending a few more extra dollars for a better pair of speakers would be money well spent. Boy, was I right!
One of my main concerns was having sufficient bass response without the use of a subwoofer. I really didn't want to have to spend extra money on a subwoofer just to get adequate base outside. I mounted the AW6500's under the eave on the back of the house with the racetrack radiator aimed at the wall. My expectations were low on just how good bass could be coming from two outdoor speakers with 6-1/2" woofers and I was blown away. I found myself having to turn down the bass quite a bit as it was thumping quite loud.
What pleased me the most is the sound coming from these despite being hooked up to a cheap 20 year old Sony STR-SE391 receiver. I wired them using 14AWG at a run of about 35 feet from receiver to speakers. I'm happy to say that there is no need for a subwoofer. There is nothing more satisfying than spending perhaps a little more than expected on a piece of equipment only to have it exceed your expectations and day in and day out prove that it was money well spent.
Pros: Build quality, sound clarity, bass response when installed with radiator reflecting off a wall
Excellent speaker! great hi and bass from a fairly compact unit..
Pros: Great sound, and capable of covering a fairly large open area
This is my second set of these speakers. They are awesome!! I have a pair in my backyard as well as my garage. They really put out some nice sound from top to bottom.
Pros: They sound great!! Look Nice too. They truly are a very nice sounding speaker
They were a little pricey for my budget, but after reading several outstanding reviews, I bought them. No regrets, worth every penny. I an not an audiophile, but I can really her the bass and clairity. You can't go wrong with these. Although I did not paint mine, the grilles are removable and paintable and the speakers/brackets can be painted if you really want to camouflage them.
Good speakers, exactly as described. Good price (got 'em on sale). Great service! The Crutchfield team was very knowledgeable, not just about these speakers but also comparable speakers. It really helped in making my decision.
Pros: clear mids and highs but you'll have to boost the bass a little if you like a lot of it. I'm still breaking them in. (according to Mfg. recommendations)
Sound great, mounts easy, adjusts nicely. These fit great underneath the eave of my house on my patio. I was very pleased with the sound dispersion for our outdoor area. Even at low volumes the low end comes through.
Pros: Very easy to mount.
Perfect speakers for my outdoor system-great sound, definitely best bang for the buck!! These fit great underneath the eave of my house on my patio.
Pros: Great sound and price
Pricey, but well worth the $$. Made some stands out of 1" PVC pipe that are a 2'x2' cubes with a PVC roof and floor (for protection from the sun & rain) and the speakers mounted in the middle so that we can easily move them around in the yard or machine shed. The PVC roof and floor also make them sound even better and protect them even if tipped over or turned upside down. We are still playing them on volume setting # 3 (10max) and have about 12 hrs on them. Using a Sony STR-D1011 Receiver with continuous RMS power output of 8 ohms, at 20 Hz-20 kHz, 130 W + 130 W..
Pros: Solidly built, sturdy mounting hardware, angle easily adjustable, nice fit and finish.
These really are superb. I'm using them to fill my backyard. Mounted under the eaves, and pointing down, I can't believe the sound they put out! Excellent presence, and surprising bass.
Pros: Awesome sound. On sale
These are great speakers! Installed them around a swing pool deck and when I really put the power to them they respond with excellent sound and good full range for out door speakers. I would suspect that the base response would be even better if I hand them mounted against a wall or under a soffit. As it is they still sound great.
Pros: Easy to use mounting brackets and solid sound performance across the board.
Cons: To really get them to fill out they do need a good bit of power. You are going to need a solid strong amp pushing these speakers if you are going to get the most out of them.
These are excellent speakers. They play the audio spectrum very well, especially for outdoor speakers. The installation is easy and Crutchfield provides great tutorial videos for the newbie. I am used to good sound and have very nice indoor set ups. I was very pleased with the sound dispersion for our outdoor area. Even at low volumes the low end comes through. I suggest anyone not used to buying better speakers should read the conditioning article available. If you are not aware, it takes several hours of use before the drivers are at their best. I highly recommend these if you are thinking of upgrading or adding sound to your outdoor areas.
Pros: See review
Excellent speakers, excellent sound, good highs, good lows, good mids. Hooked up to zone 2 of denon 2312.
Only have for 3 months now so we'll see if they hold up.
Pros: Great sound Sturdy mounting brackets Simple yet elegant design
Cons: None yet
If you are looking for some very good sounding outdoor speakers the AW6500 is the way to go. My Yamaha 2010 at 140 watts a channel is a good match.Being able to control the Amp with my I-pod is great,if this is not an option for you I would get the volume control out side by your speakers. As normal the Crutchfield team did a great job in helping me choose what I needed for my application.
Pros: Good bass for being outside. Easy to install.Turn them up,they can handle it.
I was looking for a great outdoor speaker to add to our Pool Area... Sunken Bar needed great sound... added a roof on the bar - these speakers sound great with roof to bounce the bass off of... without the roof - they sounded really good - but with it added - they sound great. 2nd night they were up - roof wasn't done - they went through their 1st Monsoon - no issues as expected. Previous reviews made me purchase above and beyond the BOSE - glad I did... the sound is much fuller than Bose.
Pros: full sound - great speakers
If you are looking for outdoor speakers, look no further. I have heard almost every outdoor speaker out there and the Def Tech 6500's are far and away the best sounding outdoor speakers under $1,000. Bass reproduction is superb and mids and highs are fantastic. Mounting and bracket are easy and smart. They can get loud, more than enough for my half acre lot. Crazy high recommendation.
Pros: Sound, sound, bass, value, everything.
Cons: None (would have been nice if they came with mounting hardware)
To be honest and upfront, I haven't given these speakers the recommended 20-40 hours break-in period before writing this review. That said, they sound great! Highs and mids come through nicely, and bass is definitely present, assisted by the radiator. They aren't mounted near the house, so there's not really anything for the bass to reflect off of either. They also weathered their first storm with flying colors only two days after I hooked them up. It rained so hard that I couldn't see the end of my street a mere six houses away. The next day after the storm, I sat on my deck, fired up the receiver, and happy to hear them still working and sounding great. My wife also hit them with water from the hose while she was watering plants, got worried for a second, and remembered they're waterproof.
They're being powered by a Pioneer VSX-1021 K on Zone 2 (which is also awesome, different music/volumes in the living room and kitchen than outside is just fun to do) and at full volume I'm ready to move away from them a bit. Makes me wonder what my neighbors think! If you were pushing them with more power, I can only imagine crisper sound and enough volume to fill a decent space.
Pros: Clean sound, good price, waterproof!
Cons: None yet
Powerful speakers when connected to a Yamaha r-s500 receiver, they sound clear even from a distance.
I replaced a 15 year old pair of Polk Audio M5 outdoor speakers which had served me well but one blew out. These are actually an upgrade in my opinion with better bass and crisper highs. Simple and easy bracket design made for an easy swap out and for the price point, I think these are a very good value. Highly recommend these Definitive Technology products and will consider their family of products first when looking at future purchases.
Pros: quality build, simple and effective hanging brackets, excellent sound with strong bass and crisp highs
Cons: none noted yet
I purchased these to replace some 8 yr old Bose 151s. After removing one of the 151s, and replacing it with a AW 6500, I played some music to see the difference. The difference blew me away. These are just excellent, and probably are the best outdoor speakers I've ever heard. I have a surround sound with all def tech speakers, and my wife could care less about the sound. She listened to these, and I actually got a "wow" out of her.
Pros: Great separation, with excellent bass, mids, and highs
Cons: None so far
These Def Tech outdoor speakers replace an aged Paradigm Stylus 250 which served me well over the past 10 years. My comments will be for my initial impression since I have just installed. The Def Techs are about 25% larger and provide about 25% better bass. The highs and mid-range are comparable but the planar woofer does add the expected sonic value.
I like the sound. The installation was not a replacement in kind because of the size. I had to move a few inches from the vertical wall. No big deal though it will add some time to the installation.
My wife even noticed a difference who is usually ambivalent to musical subtleties. I think the sound will continue to evolve as we pass the break-in period. I am looking forward to it.
Pros: Better bass Nice design -
Cons: Could use better guidance around installation recommendations.
Can't imagine a better pair of outdoor speakers. They sound fantastic on my deck. Plenty of bass. Super clean Mids & highs. I'm proud to own these speakers.
Pros: Fantastic sound.
After some research, decided to purchase and install a pair of these speakers about 35 feet apart below the soffits of a two story home, mounted to the siding. The sound is just amazing, as it projects incredibly well throughout the main entertainment area of my yard (large inground pool and patio spanning an area of about 100 x 80. The most impressive part of these speakers is the combination of bass performance and sound quality /projection at even lower volume levels.
Should also note that I purchased the white ones and paint/primed them as indicated in the instructions to match my siding. Hardest part of the job was snaking the speakers wires through the siding over long distances.
Pros: Great sound. Paintable to match home.
Cons: Lack of paint templates to cover the speakers while painting (had to cut my own). You need to get your own mounting hardware as well, but that is acceptable (used Wing-Its)
These speakers sound really great. I have had them about 2 months now. They are attached to my outdoor patio ceiling about 10' apart next to the house wall. The installation into stucco took about a half hour and the provided brackets made it very easy. The speakers have very good low bass due to the 4 x 10 passive radiator that is facing the ceiling while the other drivers are angle down at about a 45 deg angle. I have them connected to an older DENON 2802. I have clear sound throughout the backyard (about 90' x 25') even though they are under the patio. I recommend these speakers and all other deftec's because of their high quality and excellent sound.
Pros: Quality, Clear highs, Pretty good bass, Ease of install
Cons: None so far
We wanted sound on our patio for a graduation party for our niece and our son. I picked through the prices and the reviews and settled in on the AW 6500. Tested them indoors and they seemed ok. Then mounted them outdoors... They keep our pool party rocking! Great overall performance for an outdoor environment. Plan on another set for the covered patio.
Pros: Bass response is impressive
Cons: Not built in the USA, would pay more if it was.....
sound great and worth the price
Pros: very good separation in sound
Cons: should have a left and right speaker so you can direct tweeters when mounted
I have Bose 251's on my house over the patio...I had an 2nd set of off brand speakers for the other side of the patio....after replacing the 2nd set with these speakers...they just blew my mind. They are incredibly clear. The Bose are going to be taken off the house and will now be the 2nd set of speakers...the bass is 3x's better than the Bose. Don't waste your money on the 251's..these are clearly the better speaker. The only thing to remember is, these speakers are pretty big.
Pros: Nice clear music, excellent bass.
Cons: Wish they added more holes for hanging them on my house for they are too spread apart for my application.
I am a speaker snob and didn't expect much out of these, but I was pleasantly surprised. The sound quality is actually quite good and the bass radiator does a good job of reflecting sound off the outside wall. Of course, they only go so loud in an outdoor setting, but I think they are adequate. Looking forward to my next party to really test them out.
Pros: Good sound quality. Bass better than expected.
Cons: Limited volume in a large yard.
great sound and great price
This speakers replace a pair of Russound Outback speakers that had been plugging away for the past five years on the back porch. As a previous reviewer mentioned it takes about 40 hours to break these speakers in. However right out of the box they sounded pretty good. Currently I'm using a very old Adcom 545II amp to drive them. The sound is well balanced, with a minimal midrange peak, and the bass is very good, for a speaker of this size. They are very efficient, so it doesn't take to much power to actually knock squirrels out off the trees in the back yard. Currently using a Logitech Touch, with the iPeng app, so I can happily control the sound remotely from the hammock with a smart phone. For the price these are very good outdoor speakers, highly recommended.
Pros: Balanced sound. Good base response.
Cons: 40 hour break in period, but, sometimes you gotta wait for the cake to bake.
Excellent sound and a great price. Bass response is excellent for outdoor setting. Paired with a Denon AVR 1912 as a remote set of speakers. Good match.
Pros: Easy to mount and connect up. Enjoying them.
I put a pair of these in my covered patio. They give great sound and a substantial amount of bass for outdoors. I highly recommend.
Great Speakers!!!!!!! I was really on the fence about what to get, I splurged on these, and have been extremely happy with them. I though they were a little pricey, but went for them anyway based upon the reviews and purchased 2 of them to put out by my pool. I am happy, and they were well worth the money. I have them hooked up to my sonos system. They just earned a repeat customer!!! Thanks Crutchfield!
I conducted exhaustive research and there simply is not an outdoor speaker with better "specs" than these for their size. After hooking them up (75 watt per channel Onkyo) I quickly assessed that they were worth about $350, not $500 a pair. After a decent break-in period (recommended by Def. Tech.) they loosened up and improved greatly...and now are well worth the $500. They will solidly hit the advertised 40 hz on the low end. I think the only better setup would be a separate subwoofer, which I considered building. They also seem to handle the power so well I plan on upgrading my amp as they seem to just begin hitting their sweet spot about the time my Onkyo is running out of head room. I mounted them on the house wall about 1 foot below the ceiling of my covered deck.
Pros: Best frequency range for size.
Cons: stickers a pain to remove (frustrating)
Great product. Connected four AW 6500s to my sound system, and the sound is excellent.
Just finished wiring the AW6500s to a Sonos Zoneplayer 120 and couldn't be more pleased. They sound very good. Crisp, clear, and the bass was surprisingly satisfying. They just fit under my eaves, so they will be somewhat protected. I used banana clips to connect them, looks professional and easier to remove than twisting the bindings. The ZP120 has a perfect amount of power to drive them and I have turned the bass up to my liking. Only thing I wish was better was the mounting bracket. It's fine to mount the speaker, but only allows the speaker to be tilted up or down. It would be great if you could turn left or right. I would definitely recommend these speakers to others!
After much research I settled on purchasing a pair of these for the new outside patio. They arrived as promised and I couldn't wait to hook them up. I couldn't have asked for more. I am powering them with a Sony STR-DN1010. The sound is rich, loud and full ranging. Even in a large open area, the bass comes through and the highs are crisp and clean. These are well worth the money and completely outperformed a pair of Bose 251's in every way. You will not be disappointed!
It is difficult to pick outdoor speakers partly because there are very few reviews on them. Having Definitive speakers for my living room and after speaking to DefTech support for suggestions, I decided to purchase those 6500 and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.
The sound is very clear, separation is excellent, and bass is good too (for outdoors). I have placed the speaker's "baffle" facing the wall to improve bass which worked the best for my setting.
- Even if those speakers are relatively efficient they definitely like a relatively powerful high quality amplifier (I have Harman Kardon and a Marantz amps for my system)
- if you are looking for tons of bass you might want to consider pairing them with a sub-woofer
- Play around with positioning to get the best sound
Overall I am very happy with this product and the service received by Crutchfield, all their videos made my choice and installation easier too.
I am using these speakers for my backyard oaisis. I have almost 1 acre of land and with these speakers turned only 1/2 way up can hear them all the way back with perfect clarity. I'm using a Sonos Z100 to power them and there is more than enough sound/power to spare. I was somewhat dissapointed that the speakers were "lighter" than I thought they would be and that they didn't come with the mounting hardware (screws and such, just the bracket) for the cost I thought they would be a little more solid feeling and would come equiped with all the mounting hardware needed.
Got tired of the muffeled sound I was getting out of my polk's. These speakers are about twice the size and deliver outstanding sound - the bass is just like being inside - lots of good sound no matter what the volume level is set at. Makes it fun to sit outside and listen to again while enjoying the heat and humidity.

Overview: The Definitive Technology AW series all-weather outdoor speaker allows you to enjoy your music outdoors in domestic or commercial applications. The AW series all-weather outdoor speaker utilizes specially developed materials and components to achieve a high level of durability, dependability, and sound quality.
Note: This speaker is sold individually.
Pressure Coupled Radiator Design: The AW series outdoor speaker provides clear, high-definition sound by pressure-coupling a BDSS technology driver to a racetrack-shaped mid/bass radiator cleverly placed on the opposite side of the enclosure. This technique offers a total bass radiating area greater than an 8-inch woofer to belt out powerful bass that fills outdoor areas.
BDSS Technology: Definitive Technology's Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) driver offers a wide-bandwidth accurate frequency response, broad dispersion, low distortion, and detail retrieval; so you hear more the music with greater accuracy and enjoyment. BDSS drivers incorporate the following design features.
Drivers: The Definitive Technology AW6500 features a 6-1/2" BDSS driver coupled to a 5-1/2" x 10" (racetrack) pressure-driven low-bass radiator, and a 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter.
Break-In Period: The AW series outdoor loudspeakers will sound good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.
Polystone Non-Resonant All-Weather Enclosure: The Definitive Technology AW6500 features a fully sealed (air and water tight) design, aluminum grilles, and rugged PolyStone enclosure, which allow it to be fully exposed to the elements and still reliably deliver their indoor speaker sound quality for years of outdoor listening enjoyment.
Note: The AW series speakers utilize special components and material for outdoor use. However, you will achieve the longest life of the speaker by positioning it to minimize direct exposure to the elements as much as possible.
Available Colors: The Definitive Technology AW6500 comes in either a Black or White (paintable) finish.
Binding Posts: The AW6500 is equipped with a pair of gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.
Mounting Bracket: The AW6500 outdoor speaker features an integrated galvanized steel mounting bracket and unique enclosure shape which allow a full 360-degrees of rotation for maximum placement flexibility. The AW outdoor speaker, using the integrated mounting bracket, can be oriented horizontally or vertically. The mounting bracket allows you to mount the speaker to an outdoor wall or under the eve of your home. The integrated mounting bracket can also be used as horizontal stand, if you want to simply place the speaker on a table or shelf. The mounting bracket is also removable, if you one to place the outdoor speaker in a vertical position on a shelf or table.
Note: The AW speaker can be mounted vertically or horizontally, but remember to always point the speaker in such a way as to allow water to roll off the driver cone and/or low bass radiator.
Placement: Position the AW series loudspeaker as close as possible to the area where you will be listening to it. Pointing the active driver baffle towards the listener while the low-bass radiator side faces the wall or ground gives you the ideal balance of clear mids, extended highs, and low-end bass even in the tough acoustic conditions of the outdoors. The AW speaker has a very wide dispersion patter; however, if you are trying to cover a very large area, you will be better off using multiple pairs of AW speakers in order to achieve and even distribution of sound. With multiple pairs you will avoid having areas where the sound is tool loud and others where the sound is not loud enough. One pair of AW series loudspeakers will cover approximately 200-400 square feet of listening area at moderately loud levels. Try to point the speaker directly at the listening area.
Definitive's AW 5500 and AW 6500 outdoor speakers provide dynamic, full-bodied sound. Their ultra-rugged build means they can be fully exposed to the elements.
I did a bit of research and these seemed like a good speaker. It turns out they are a good speaker. [ Randy Dec 14, 2015 ]
Love these outside speakers! Full range of sound. Lasting quality in the harsh Colorado environment! [ KEN Jan 21, 2016 ]
The sound quality is amazing and has more lows than other comparables. Best bang for my buck! [ Chad Dec 16, 2015 ]
High quality outdoor speakers. Sound great. Purchase influenced by Definitive Technology brand name. [ Thomas Dec 04, 2015 ]

Yes. Mine are mounted horizontally and work quite well. [ MICHAEL Mar 27, 2015 ]
Yes. Vertical or Horizontal mounting. [ CRAIG Mar 27, 2015 ]
Can't see why not [ THOMAS M Mar 26, 2015 ]
Yes these speakers can be mounted horizontally. That is how i have them mounted on my pool house. [ BRIAN C Mar 26, 2015 ]
I mounted mine horizontally on pvc stands for portability. I faced the bass down at about a 45 deg angle but can be easily adjusted or rotated in the mounting brackets that are included. We love ours. [ JAMES Mar 26, 2015 ]
Absolutely - Mine were initially set that way and I ended up moving it to vertical position - but it can be. [ MARC Mar 26, 2015 ]
Absolutely... Just have the subwoofer side facing a wall/ceiling for optimum effect.. [ AJEET Mar 26, 2015 ]
absolutely. That is how I have mine installed. [ JON Mar 26, 2015 ]
Yes, I have them mounted horizontally. [ Jay Mar 26, 2015 ]
I'd say yes but you should take into consideration that the bass cone is in the back and is better reflecting off a wall. [ PATRICK Mar 26, 2015 ]
Yes they can. My speakers are mounted horizontally to my house. [ DOUGLAS A Mar 26, 2015 ]
Yes they can. They sound the best if you can get the base speaker facing a solid surface. Ie under your ages. [ Corey Mar 26, 2015 ]
No, they must be connected to a receiver using speaker wire. They are very clear sounding and great for all weather. [ DAVID W Dec 03, 2014 ]
I have my speakers connected to a Denon receiver. I plug my iPhone into my receiver and listen to my music without any problem. [ MICHAEL Dec 01, 2014 ]
Although very efficient these speakers are going to require some amplification to truly perform to the level that they are capable of delivering. If you have an amplifier/receiver and connect your iPad to the receiver than yes, otherwise I think you may be disappointed with the sound quality. If you don't want to run an amp/receiver I would recommend a self-powered option. Good luck! [ CHRIS Dec 01, 2014 ]
I have mine connected to an iPad through the Sonos connect amp. There may be other ways to connect but this works very well for me. [ Corey Dec 01, 2014 ]
They need to first be connected to an amplifier. [ CRAIG Nov 30, 2014 ]
Hi Peter, They are not self powered so must be connected to a receiver first. I bought a $300 receiver that includes "AirPlay". The speakers are connected to the receiver and I can connect my iphone to the receiver wirelessly using AirPlay. The receiver is also connected to my wifi network so I can play music on my computer to that rig instead of my computer speakers. [ PATRICK Nov 30, 2014 ]
Not directly. I Hard wired the outdoor speakers to a receiver inside my house, running the wires around the dryer vent. I attached an Airport Extreme to the receiver so I can control everything from my iPhone, iPad, or Powerbook from outside. [ THOMAS M Nov 30, 2014 ]
Yes. But you would still need something to power them as they are not self powered. So the ipad would connect to Aux of amp or receiver and then that connects to speakers. [ ARNOLD Nov 30, 2014 ]
George I live in Michigan and I always take these down around the end of October and store them for the winter [ JERRY Mar 10, 2015 ]
to be on the save side bring them in I do and I live in Texas Mike [ MIKE W Mar 10, 2015 ]
George, I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Foothills in California and we get cold weather and snow every year, so I always take my Definitive Technology 6500s down in November and keep them inside and put them back out in late March. It only takes a few minutes and I'm sure preserves the speaker components. I'm sure you could leave them out; however, I'm sure it would shorten any speakers life. [ JAMES R Mar 10, 2015 ]
I would recommend taking them down during the off season when not in use. I live in North Carolina, winters nowhere near as harsh as Michigan. Take mine down 1st of November & put them back up in May for pool season. [ JOHNNY Mar 10, 2015 ]
I live near Chicago. I bring them in for the winter. They are very easy to detach from the brackets (no tools required). My last speakers were outside for 10 years though and were not nearly as good as these. [ WILLIAM Mar 10, 2015 ]
I live in nebraska so we have the same climate..I leave mine outside all year and they still sound great..but mine are underneath my house eave on my deck, which also has a roof on it, so they dont get sunlight, wet, sun exposure etc. [ NICK Mar 10, 2015 ]
They are wired speakers and if you are using them outside you should use ground rated speaker wire. Wired still is the way to go for the best sound quality, and these speakers are a great choice for outdoors. [ MATTHEW Sep 06, 2014 ]
These speakers need to be wired. [ WILLIAM Sep 05, 2014 ]
