Good things do come in small packages

Here's Definitive's most affordable, compact 6-piece home theater speaker system. The ProCinema 400 delivers expansive, room-filling sound that belies its small size and modest price. This system boasts many of the same technologies found in Definitive's top-of-the-line models, such as drivers with butyl rubber surrounds for enhanced durability and performance, and pure aluminum dome tweeters for detailed, extended highs. Its four small satellite speakers, voice-matched center channel speaker, and potent 150-watt powered subwoofer all combine to give you thrilling surround sound.

Advanced design for full, rich sound

This system uses four of Definitive's ProMonitor 400 satellite speakers to create a spacious, enveloping soundstage. Each one has an active 3-1/2" midrange driver that's pressure-coupled to a top-mounted, 3-1/2" passive radiator to help expand the speakers' frequency range. This technology increases the lower-midrange output of each speaker without increasing its enclosure size — allowing the system to deliver big sound using smaller speakers. The ProCenter 400 center channel uses two 3-1/2" midranges and two side-mounted passive radiators for crystal-clear dialogue and true-to-life sound effects.

Radiator

Ceramic coated, pure aluminum dome tweeters serve up smooth, extended high-frequency sound.

Smooth, extended highs without harshness

All five speakers have a 3/4" pure aluminum dome tweeter. Each tweeter is heat-treated to relax the crystal structure of the metal. It's then coated with a ceramic to help it produce crisp, extended highs that reveal subtle details and shimmer without a trace of edginess.

cp400subwoofer

A compact, 150-watt subwoofer delivers deep bass for high-impact special effects.

Big bass from a small box

Definitive's ProSub 400 adds the excitement of deep, rumbling low-frequency sound. A front-mounted 8" woofer coupled to a custom-designed, down-firing port and built-in 150-watt amplifier work together in harmony to give you powerful, hard-hitting bass.

Compact, easy-to-place speakers

The satellite speakers come with detachable, shelf-mount bases and the center channel comes with a leveler foot so you can easily place the speakers on shelves. You can also mount them on your walls using the keyhole slots for out-of-the-way placement. Connect the sub and tuck it under a table or in a corner, and you're ready to go.

Did you know?
Your new speakers will probably sound better after several weeks of use than they do right out of the box. That's because the material surrounding the woofers will loosen up, allowing the drivers to move more fully. Definitive Technology estimates a break-in period of 24 to 48 hours of playback before the speakers will deliver optimum sound quality. System Overview

5.1 Channel Speaker System: The Definitive Technology ProCinema 400 Home Theater Speaker System is designed to deliver equally superb sound with music or movies. The ProCinema 400 provides clear, high-definition sound from tiny, easy to place satellite speakers which can be shelf or wall mounted. The ProCinema 400 Home Theater Speaker System includes 4 matching satellite speakers, 1 center-channel speaker, and a powered subwoofer.

Pressure Coupled Radiator Design: The ProCinema 400 satellite speakers and center-channel provide clear, high-definition sound by pressure-coupling drivers to equal-sized mid/bass radiators cleverly placed on the outside of the cabinet. This technique doubles the lower-midrange radiating area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure. The result is a warm and life-like sound.

Break-In Period: The ProCinema Home Theater Speaker will sound good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.

4 Matching Satellite Speakers

Matching Satellite Speakers: The Definitive Technology ProMonitor 400 includes four matching satellite loudspeakers. The ProMonitor 400 satellite loudspeakers provide the front and rear speaker channels for your home theater system.

Drivers: The Definitive Technology ProMonitor 400 satellite speakers feature a 3-1/2" polymer midrange driver coupled to a 3-1/2" pressure-driven  lower-midrange radiator, and a 3/4" pure aluminum dome tweeter.

High Gloss Black Cabinet: The speaker cabinet is available in a high-gloss black finish. The speaker's cabinet also features a removable cloth grille.

Connections: The ProMonitor 400 satellite speakers are equipped with a pair of heavy-duty, spring-post speaker terminals to attach your receiver's speaker wire. Because the speaker terminals are recessed, you can only use bare wire or flex pin-connectors.

Mounting: The Definitive Technology ProMonitor 400 satellite speakers may be placed on a stand or shelf, or mounted on the wall or ceiling. The ProMonitor 400 features a detachable pedestal foot which allows it to fit securely and safely on a stand or shelf. The attached pedestal foot can be removed to mount the speaker to Definitive Technology's matching speaker stand (735PSTN68B, sold separately) or to wall-mount the speaker. The ProMonitor 400 can be wall-mounted using the rear-panel keyhole slot and included simple-mount brackets. In addition, there is a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back of the speaker so you can use Definitive Technology's optional mounting bracket (735PMT80, sold separately), or other manufacturer's bracket (sold separately) to hang the speaker on a wall or ceiling.

Placement: When used as front speakers, the ProMonitor 400s should usually be placed 6 to 8 feet apart and kept away from the side walls and corners. When used as rear speakers, take care never to locate the speakers forward of the listeners. The ProMonitor 400s may be angled in towards the listening position or left parallel with the rear wall according to your personal listening taste. Normally, angling the speakers in so that they point directly at the listeners will result in more detail and greater clarity.

Note: The four matching satellite speakers are not video shielded.

Center-Channel Speaker

Center-Channel: As much as 75% of a movie's soundtrack is played by the center-channel loudspeaker making it arguably the most important speaker in a home theater system. The ProCenter 400 center-channel loudspeaker is ideal for use as a center-channel speaker in conjunction with Dolby Surround Sound Pro-Logic and Dolby Digital decoding.

Drivers: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 400 features two 3-1/2" polymer midrange drivers coupled to two side-firing 3-1/2" pressure-driven lower-midrange radiators, and a 3/4" pure aluminum dome tweeter.

High Gloss Black Cabinet: The speaker cabinet is available in a high-gloss black finish. The speaker's cabinet also features a removable cloth grille.

Connections: The ProCenter 400 is equipped with a pair of heavy-duty, spring-post speaker terminals to attach your receiver's speaker wire. Because the speaker terminals are recessed, you can only use bare wire or flex pin-connectors.

Mounting: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 400 can be mounted on a stand or shelf; or even wall-mounted. The ProCenter 400 includes a detachable stand with integrated rubber feet for placing the center-channel on a shelf or stand. The center speaker also has two threaded inserts (1/4"-20) on the back, which can be used with a pair of optional Definitive Technology ProMount brackets (735PMT80, sold separately) or other manufacture wall-mount bracket (sold separately) to mount the ProCenter 400 on the wall.

Placement: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 400 can be placed above or below your television. The center-channel speaker is not video shielded.

Powered Subwoofer

Powered Subwoofer: The Definitive Technology ProSub 400 is a compact, high-quality powered subwoofer with a built-in 150 watt amplifier, down-firing 8" woofer, and ported enclosure woofer for rich, satisfying bass. The Definitive Technology ProSub 400 subwoofer can be used in your home theater or music speaker system.

  • 150 Watt Amplifier: The ProSub 400 employ's a built-in 150 watt amplifier for explosive, dynamic bass response.
  • 8" Subwoofer: The ProSub 400 features a down-firing, long-throw 8" woofer for rich, deep bass.
  • Down-Firing Port: The ProSub 400's custom-designed, down-firing port enhances its rich bass performance.

Cabinet: The ProSub 400 features a matte black vinyl-wrapped cabinet.

Controls: The ProSub 400 offers volume control and a fixed 140Hz low-pass crossover to integrate the powered sub with your stereo or multi-channel audio system.

  • Volume Control: The level control allows you to perfectly adjust the volume of the subwoofer to match your system and room as well as to fulfill your own personal sonic preferences.
  • Fixed Low Pass Crossover (140 Hz): The Definitive Technology ProSub 400 powered subwoofer has a fixed low pass crossover of 140 Hz. The low pass filter cannot be turned off.

LFE Input: The Definitive Technology powered subwoofer has a low-level direct LFE input for Dolby Digital soundtracks, which bypasses the crossover network. If you are connecting the subwoofer to an AV receiver without a dedicated subwoofer or LFE preamp output, but does features a stereo RCA output, you will need to use a stereo RCA cable along with an RCA Y-adapter.

Note: There are no speaker-level inputs or outputs.

Auto Turn-On Circuit: The powered subwoofer has a special power circuit which automatically turns the powered subwoofer on when a signal is fed to the loudspeaker and turns it off when there is no signal present, so it does not require an on-off switch.

LED Indicator: The red LED on the back panel of the powered subwoofer will light up when a signal is sensed and the amplifier turns on. It will automatically turn off with the powered subwoofer, a little while after the signal is discontinued.

Rubber Feet: The ProSub 400 features four integrated feet with rubber tips so you can place it securely and safely on your home's floor.

Placement: The Definitive Technology powered subwoofer has been designed to operate at frequencies generally below 140 Hz. Because low-frequency information in this range essentially is non-directional, your subwoofer can be located anywhere in your listening room that is most convenient. Also the continuously variable low-pass filter operate at a very fast roll-off, ensuring great performance wherever you place the subwoofer. There are, however, some general rules that you should bear in mind when locating the powered sub.

  • For maximum output the subwoofer should be placed in a corner or against the wall.
  • Corner placement will increase the subwoofer's efficiency, which in turn will increase your system's maximum output and improve the dynamic capability of the subwoofer.

Q
What is the weight of the satellite speakers? Need this info before choosing speaker stands.

Mine weigh 23.4 oz each.

Hello Margo, I can only give a guess as I do not have anything to weigh the individual speakers. The total pounds of all the speaker components--the subwoofer, center speaker, front speakers and back speakers, 6 pieces in all, is approximately 30 pounds. I lifted one speaker just now and it feels like 3-4 pounds at the most. So I do not think it will be hard to find stands to fit your needs. The center speaker can go on stand where your widescreen is sitting as the manual says this particular component should be as close to the TV as possible. The only thing I warn about is finding a way to keep the speakers from falling off the stand)s) you select as the speakers like to travel because of the sound vibrating against the speaker stands and you do not want the speakers to travel to the floor--I suggest finding stands that have a ridge on them to keep the speakers in place. To bypass this possibility you could attach the speakers to the wall. Best I can do. Jeff

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. I am able to play several different devices via my wifi enable receiver including computer. I replaced sub woofer with an older Infinity one that I had.....sound is absolutely awesome. Hope that answers your question.

I believe this system is designed to connect to a surround sound receiver. The receiver unit will need to have left and right front channels, left and right rear, center and possibly subwoofer output. The satellite speakers do not have an independent power source.

Can you put these on speaker stands?

One would have to find the right stand. The foot print of the satellite speaker is tiny.. so you would need a tiny stand. I mounted these to the wall with a bracket system.
