Tweeter

Dual 5-1/4" woofers produce robust midrange and bass frequencies, which are turbocharged by 5-1/4" bass radiators at both ends of the cabinet (see more photos). This clever design doubles the lower-midrange radiating area without increasing the size of the enclosure. A 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter produces extended highs that reveal nuance and subtle detail without a trace of edginess.

Size comparison

You can place the ProCenter 2000 on a shelf using the included leveler foot, or mount it on your wall using the threaded inserts. This speaker is voice-matched with Definitive's complete ProCinema series, and can be paired with any ProCinema surround or subwoofer. To create a high-performance ProCinema system, pair the ProCenter 2000 with four ProMonitor 1000 satellites and a ProSub 1000.

Did you know?
Your new speakers will probably sound better after several weeks of use than they do right out of the box. That's because the material surrounding the woofers will loosen up, allowing the drivers to move more fully. Definitive Technology estimates a break-in period of 24 to 48 hours of playback before the speakers will deliver optimum sound quality. For more information and helpful tips, check out this article from Definitive's website about conditioning your speakers.

Product Research

Overview: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 2000 video-shielded center-channel speaker utilizes state-of-the-art components (BDSS driver coupled with a pressure-driven planar low-frequency radiator, a pure aluminum dome tweeter, a uniphase crossover network, and a non-resonant PolyStone cabinet with low diffraction construction) in order to achieve the most lifelike sound possible in your listening room. As much as 75% of a movie's soundtrack is played by the center-channel loudspeaker making it arguably the most important speaker in a home theater system. The ProCenter 2000 loudspeaker is ideal for use as a center-channel speaker in conjunction with Dolby Surround Sound Pro-Logic and Dolby Digital decoding.

Driver Technology

Pressure Coupled Radiator Design: The ProMonitor center-channel speaker provides clear, high-definition sound by pressure-coupling Definitive's exclusive BDSS technology drivers to two equal-sized mid/bass radiators cleverly placed on the sides of the center-speaker. This technique doubles the lower-midrange radiating area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure. The result is a warm and life-like sound.

BDSS Technology: Definitive Technology's Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) driver offers a wide-bandwidth accurate frequency response, broad dispersion, low distortion, and detail retrieval; so you hear more the music with greater accuracy and enjoyment. BDSS drivers incorporate the following design features.

  • Balanced Double Surrounds: The speaker's balanced double surrounds support the cone at two points to provide better mechanical stability for longer, more linear excursion, and improved damping to suppress parasitic cone resonance.
  • Mineral-Filled Polymer Cone: The ProCenter 2000 features a deeply drawn mineral-filled polymer cone engineered using sophisticated 3D modeling techniques for wide range performance.
  • Waveguide: The cone's integrated waveguide smoothes off-axis response for broad, even dispersion and better imaging.
  • High Temperature Voice Coil: The driver's high temperature, oversized, lightweight vented voice coil offers improved power handling and quick transient response. The voice coil is also lengthened to increase linearity and lower distortion.
  • Magnet Structure: The driver's magnetic system is optimized by finite element analysis to maximize magnetic flux in the gap for high efficiency and linear excursion.
  • Die-Cast Alloy Basket: The die-cast alloy basket minimizes ringing and vibration while the open area minimizes back wave reflection.

Drivers: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 2000 features two 5-1/4" BDSS driver coupled to two side-firing 5-1/4" pressure-driven planar low-frequency radiators, and a 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter.

Break-In Period: The ProCenter 2000 loudspeaker will sound good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.

Enclosure Design

Non-Resonant PolyStone Cabinet: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 2000 uses a non-resonant PolyStone cabinet with low diffraction construction. The speaker cabinet is available in a high-gloss black or white finish. The speaker's cabinet features a removable cloth grille.

Connections

Binding Posts: The ProCenter 2000 is equipped with a pair of gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.

Mounting Options

Mounting: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 2000 can be mounted on a stand or shelf; or even wall-mounted. The ProCenter 2000 has two threaded inserts (1/4"-20) on the back, which can be used with a pair of optional Definitive Technology ProMount brackets (735PMT90, sold separately) or other manufacture wall-mount bracket (sold separately) to mount the ProCenter 2000 on the wall.

Placement: The Definitive Technology ProCenter 2000 can be placed above or below your television.

Angle Adjustment: The ProCenter 2000 loudspeaker has a simple built-in device which allows you to adjust the vertical angle of the speaker. There is an adjustable rubber-foot on the bottom-rear of the speaker cabinet. when you set the center-channel speaker down, the speaker will lean back and rest on this foot. By varying how far you screw in-and-out the foot, you can adjust the vertical angle of the speaker. It is recommended that you aim the center-speaker so that it aims directly towards the height of the listeners' ears.

Q
Can I match the procenter 2000 with my BP9060 or would the cs9040 or cs9060 be a better center?
lawrence  Aug 22, 2022
1 answer
A
Great question! Technically the CS-9040 or CS-9060 would be the ideal match, but the ProCenter 2000 would also be a fine option. Our advisors would be able to help with reviewing your needs and helping to recommend the best pick of the three. Give us a call at 1-800-324-9695.

Can I match the procenter 2000 with my BP9060 or would the cs9040 or cs9060 be a better center?
lawrence  Aug 22, 2022
1 answer
A
This ProCenter 2000 most likely could be used with decent results L. B., but they are not an exact voice match for the BP-9060 towers. The CS9040 or the CS9060 in the corresponding links below are not only a true voice match to your Definitive Technology BP9060 towers, they will both outperform the ProCenter. Now is a great time too with the sale going on, you can almost get the CS9040 for the same price as the ProCenter. No reason to compromise on your setup! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_735CS9040/Definitive-Technology-CS-9040.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_735CS9060/Definitive-Technology-CS-9060.html

You sure can. They would work well together in a home theater system as they voice match each other.

Q
Can I mount this on top of my TV?....65" Samsung Fairly thin LED ..I currently have a Samsung sound bar, but it is only a couple inches deep..I

A
Don,t try to mount this from your T/V . Instead hang it from your ceiling . It works better! You could damage your T/V beyond repair ! It,s a very good speaker but it it is heavy ? I love mine !
tim  Nov 29, 2018
A
Only if a wall mount for the speaker is used. The ProCenter 2000 is too big and heavy to set on top of a a TV.
john  Nov 28, 2018
A
If you wall mount it yes, I would think so. I wall mounted my 55" Sony and have the center speaker directly below on my entertainment stand.
sean j.  Nov 28, 2018
A
Hi, I think you can, but to be honest I dont think it will look very good. Is a wide speaker so putting it on top will not match with your tv. I think it will look better below or on top of a shelf below your tv.
juan  Nov 28, 2018
A
Not easily as its heavy and much larger than a couple inches. I'd advise in front, below the TV or maybe on the wall above the TV
john a  Nov 28, 2018
A
Probably not. It's a great sounding center, but about 8" deep. I have mine below the screen in a media cabinet. It's more of a direct line to seating height that way also.
bennett  Nov 28, 2018
A
Without a kit to hold it, i would say no. My sony xbr will not be able to hold it.

Q
I have DT SM55 for fronts for a HT . I would like to know if the DT Procenter 200 or DT CS9040 be a better match for a center channel ? Thanks.

A
I have the Def Techs BP9040 as my fronts and the Def Tech Pro2000 center channel. The sound of the Center Channel is spacious, warm and crisp. My speakers are connected to a Denon X4200 which I am using a Harman Kardon PA5800 external amplifier for the main power source.
ricky  Jan 14, 2018
A
Hi Jeff, IMO, with your setup, I'd go with the Pro 200. The CS-9040 is more suitable for the BP-9040. By the way, the Pro 200 sounds awesome. Very solid center channel speaker.
luis  Jan 14, 2018
A
j- I don't think I am the best one to ask. I have BP9000 series front speakers so I can't give you a good answer for match. I have the CS-9040 and found it to really clarify speaking in movies compared to the other centers I have bought. If the speech is hard to understand and/or muddy, you can't go wrong with the CS-9040. Hope this helps. d-

Q
Will this work in a cabinet behind my flat screen? There is 4" of space from the bottom of the flat screen to the shelf this would sit on in the cabinet.

My ProCenter is 6.5" high
michael  Nov 22, 2017
A
Probably not, the speaker is pretty big. Sorry.
matthew  Nov 22, 2017
A
Measured from the surface of whatever surface the speaker is sitting on to the top of the speaker is 6.5" so if all you have is 4", it won't fit.
terry  Nov 22, 2017
Q
Can this be stood straight up?
greg  Apr 06, 2017
6 answers
A
It does not have any provisions/options for standing on its ends.
garsia  Apr 08, 2017
A
No, because of the design of the speaker, it is meant to lay on it's belly.
william  Apr 08, 2017
A
I'm sorry I've never tried that or thought about it. It's mounted on my wall now so I can't do much playin with it.
matthew  Apr 07, 2017
A
No, it's specifically made that it will be laying as it shows in pictures, first of all sides a roundish so it will not stend on it side. And secondly there is pasive bass membranes, or what ever it's called, on each side If you take grill off this membrane actually moves when sound level is high, very noticeable on my SM 65 definitive speakers
lili  Apr 07, 2017
A
No, I don't think that would work. However, it is a great speaker.
jeffery k  Apr 07, 2017
A
No.
ralph  Apr 07, 2017
Q
Could I use this as a LCR speaker configuration?
wayne  Jul 29, 2016

It is not optimized to work that way. It is the matching center channel speaker for ProMonitor 1000 speakers: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_735PMON1KB/item.html I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101
