The SoloCinema Studio makes a statement with its streamlined, elegant design and powerful five-channel sound.
Some people want a sound bar that blends into their décor. Others want something that catches the eye, prompting "oohs" and "ahs." The SoloCinema Studio from Definitive Technology can generate fawning praise for its cool design without looking ostentatious. The slim, cloth-wrapped bar delivers five-channel sound and looks good doing it — either mounted on the wall or resting on a stand. The wireless subwoofer offers discreet placement options while filling in the low frequencies that really bring movies to life. Together, they'll upgrade your TV's sound by leaps and bounds, without requiring a total redesign of your living room.
While some sound bars amp up your TV's sound in stereo, the SoloCinema Studio offers a true 5.1-channel listening experience. Five discrete channels allow more details to shine through with movies and TV shows. With HDMI connections and built-in Dolby® and DTS® surround processing, this system is ready to show off your Blu-ray discs and DVDs in all their multichannel glory. The bar's nine drivers and Definitive's Spatial Array™ processing create a huge soundstage with realistic surround effects, backed by enough power to fill large rooms. Plus, those HDMI connections make it easy to switch between sources like disc players and streaming media boxes without having to switch your TV's input.
If you plan on wall-mounting the SoloCinema Studio, you're probably interested in a very clean look with as few wires as possible. In that case, you'll appreciate the sound bar's Bluetooth capability for streaming music wirelessly from your compatible smartphone, tablet or computer. So when you're entertaining, it's easy to load up a playlist and fill your living room with music. Plus, anyone with a smartphone can get in on the action, streaming tunes stored on their device or from music services like Spotify® and Pandora® Internet radio.
The SoloCinema Studio's remote isn't just for simple volume up and down. You can raise and lower the subwoofer's volume, to help fine-tune the bass response — great for late-night viewing so low-frequency rumble doesn't wake sleeping kids. Also, there's a separate volume control for the center-channel drivers. This is where most of the dialogue for movies and TV shows is output, so it's easy to bump up the volume to better understand on-screen conversations.
Add big sound to your TV without a roomful of speakers. Sound bars require minimal space and wiring, and their sleek designs complement today's flat-panel TVs. Most sound bars have their own built-in amplification, so you won't need to use a home theater receiver. Some models use advanced surround processing and carefully aimed speaker drivers to simulate the effects of a full home theater audio system.

Problemas con la coneccion al TV,estoy seriamente pensando devolverlo.
Problems with TV connection. Am seriously considering returning it.
Five stars for what this sound bar intends to be. This really sets itself apart from the others at all volume levels. I don't have to tell you what an expert I am (I always roll my eyes when others try to). Suffice it to say I have been an audiophile for a number of decades and know a practical solution when I see it. For apartments, condos and lofts, this will kick out plenty of good, well defined sound with little fuss whether music, Game of Thrones, movie action or dialogue. Set up was easy. An actual center channel with separate volume control as well as separate bass volume adjustment allow for good balancing for whatever genre or volume level. There are no rear channel speakers behind you, which is both the attraction and the drawback. If you have limited space (don't put rears right behind your freaking ears) or just want it to be easy, uncluttered and sound decent, it is perfect and, yes, the extra bucks make a quantifiable difference in sound. Sound bars have come of age.
Pros: Ease of set up/operation. Bluetooth works well. separately adjustable center and bass channels. Sub kicks well and accurately for a wireless. There is an optical audio in as well as the HDMI.
First, let me state that this soundbar sounds amazing. However, the negatives have forced me to send it back. The user interface (UI) needs major work and yes, I had the latest firmware which was emailed to me by Definitive Tech Support. Being that this is an HDMI switching unit, it's great for decoding different types of audio signals and also capable of an on screen display (OSD). The problem lies in the firmware. There is considerable lag between remote commands and response from the unit. The OSD often becomes distorted; the screen resolution seems to have an effect on it. I'm talking about the OSD going from a nice, centered volume display to being half-way visible in the upper left side of the screen. I could not get the learning function of the soundbar to work, even after exchanging the unit for a new one. The subwoofer developed a turn off pop. On two occasions, the subwoofer immediately started playing upon system turn on, with what appeared to be, playing at full volume for no reason at all. (Possibly damaging the subwoofer driver). Turning off and on the unit corrected this. Lastly, the remote control IR receiver seems to have a limited response in relation to the angle of the remote. Seems like the remote needs to be centered with the soundbar for it to work.
Do not recommend at this price point. Consider Yamaha (love mine) or Sony.
Pros: Sound quality is good.
Cons: Entire UI is a major pitfall of this unit. Easily trumps the sound quality.
We purchased this sound bar back in August to go along with our new TV. At first we were very impressed with the sound output and clarity, but soon started having problems. At random intervals the soundbar would simply shut itself off. During a typical day of viewing, it probably happens 4 or 5 times. As you can imagine it is a very annoying bug. We contacted the company and they had us do a firmware update (didn't work) then they sent us a replacement. The second unit began shutting itself off the first day we had it hooked up. At this point either we've been incredibly unlucky or there is a design/software flaw that needs to be sorted out.
Pros: Good balance across lows, midrange and highs Easily controlled with TV remote
Cons: Doesn't stay powered on consistently Cheap, lightweight remote control
Ok. To start, let's get one thing straight. IT'S A SOUND BAR! To think you're going to get true Dolby Digital surround is not going to happen. That being said... This is a powerful, well balanced system. The bar is very crisp and accurate with its highs and mids. It's size is perfect for my 55" LED, and it's very subtle in its design, so it doesn't stick out like some sound bars do. It fits right in. Now... While it does have somewhat spacious sound, it does not have any effects that simulate surround. At least none that you can control. Everything sounds like it's right in front of you (which it is). I have a somewhat small room in which I use this system, so I thought it may bounce of the walls to create a more "reflective" surround experience. That's not happening. It doesn't disappoint me at all though, because the overall sound it produces is just AWESOME! The wireless sub is simply incredible. For an 8" woofer this thing punches and rumbles like it's much larger. It's also decently sized to go just about anywhere you could think of. I have a monster home theater system in my family room for when I want to fully engulf myself in THX sound, but again... The DT SoloCinema Studio system does NOT disappoint. I have found myself watching more of the movies that I would normally watch on the bigger system, and don't even give it a second thought. I would definitely recommend this to anyone seeking a great high quality sound bar.
Pros: Well balanced, powerful sound for its size. Can separately control center channel and subwoofer volume. (the center channel control is great since many movies have quiet voice tracks and explosive effects) Can be programmed to use television remote to control master volume, television, sound bar system and bluetooth power on and off, as well as some other soundbar bar functions. Plenty of HDMI inputs Simple, straight forward setup Crutchfield's 60 day guarantee!! The list goes on...
Cons: No ARC HDMI, so you have to use optical input if you want to have all of the sound through one channel.
Very hard hitting wireless sub along with crystal clear sound from bar.
Pros: Adjustable bass
Cons: None so far
For music, sounds great. Have not tried it for movies. The sub is actually pretty hard hitting. My only issue is that it does not support ARC (Audio Return Channel). So basically, if you were streaming Netflix or Hulu from your TV and you wanted the sound to come out of the soundbar, you would have to have another cable (in addition to the HDMI) for the sound. This would not be an issue if you used a Roku or a DVD player, or any other source to stream your Netflix. The issue is only present when the Netflix or Hulu app is on your TV.
Pros: Sound, sub.
Cons: No ARC
Been testing this sound bar system for about 3 weeks now. Easy setup, good looks, finicky remote....Highs, mids, lows, Bluetooth, wireless sub, awesome simulated 5.1 surround, adjustable woofer and center speaker, on screen menu, great looks, plenty of Inputs.....I can go on.... I have owned all types of 5.1 systems and thus by far simplifies all the wires and mounting, blah. That goes with those systems. During movies like 300, Transformers, GI joe, etc, I am immersed in the sound and action... That is the true test of audiophile greatness. This sound bar system is an all around great buy. No other system compares, not even the Sony, with the sound quality, options (night mode), looks, and warranty, plus the 60 day money back guarantee from Crutchfields. I haven't found any surround sound system within this price range that is remotely comparable in quality or performance. Even the high end Bose doesn't offer Bluetooth.... If I am paying this much for a system, it needs to be self cleaning and at least have Bluetooth...
Pros: Setup, sound, looks, Bluetooth, all around system, adjustable center, and sub
Cons: Remote is slow to react... Have to press the buttons a few times....
Great sound, awesome sub, horrible remote. The Bose 1 SR is still the best at giving the illusion of surround sound.
I was not sure what to expect with purchasing a soundbar. I have had a few family members purchase Bose surround sound systems and I have to say that I was impressed, but not blown away. My co-worker purchased the highly rated Vizio soundbar, but for me it just didn't wow with its design. I continued my research and stumbled across the Solocinema Studio from Definitive Technology. The price is obviously very steep, but Definitive Technology did a great job with their design and obviously their reputation among audiophiles is a cut above the rest. Bluetooth capability was a big sticking point for me and from all the soundbars that I researched, except the Definitive Technology, was that Bluetooth pairing was finicky and unreliable. After almost a full week of beautiful sound and the ease of pairing my devices thru Bluetooth, the soundbar has surpassed all my expectations! Lastly, it is almost a win-win situation with Crutchfield's money back guarantee. You have nothing to lose from trying this product, except not knowing the sounds that you are missing!
Pros: *Bluetooth Pairing *Sound quality (when John Legend, who knows what great sound is supposed to sound like, uses your products it has to be excellent) *Design *Excellent Sound *Packaging *Superb Sound
Cons: *The volume buttons on the remote do not respond every single time.
This product has surpassed all my expectations for sound quality from a soundbar application.
Pros: Full, rich sound, separate dialogue volume control, great dynamic range, excellent surround simulation.
Cons: Remote is finicky; sometimes the sub-woofer (Bluetooth connected) has to be paired again.
Got the delivery today. The sound bar and sub were built nicely and solid. I placed the bar on the TV console. I have a 55" TV and the bar looks a little bulky. I wish it were 2-3" shorter. However the hookup is extremely easy. Then the sound...very natural and clear. By "natural", I was comparing my previous Sony and Bose. The human voice come out of those two sets are more like coming from a person talking through a microphone. But the voice from this sound bar is just like a person talking in front of you! The sub is powerful too. The sound can really fill my room at only about 3 quarters of maximum, despite that I have a large and 12' high ceiling room.
Pros: 1. First and most important, great sound of 5.1! 2. Easy setup 3. Can adjust the center channel manually. 4. Blue tooth is easy to work with, I got my iPad connected in few seconds. 5. Streamline design.
Cons: Not really, maybe the look...I think Definitive Technology should make it a little more nice-looking at this price, like the Bose CineMate 1 SR. I really like the look of that!

SoloCinema Studio System: The Definitive Technology SoloCinema Studio is a two piece home theater system which consists of an active soundbar speaker and wireless powered subwoofer. The system has been designed to deliver a virtual 5.1-channel sound experience without the need for an AV receiver or rear speakers. Its the perfect compliment to your high-definition flat-panel LCD, LED-LCD, OLED, or Plasma TV.
Spatial Array & TruSurroundHD4 Technologies: The Definitive Technology SoloCinema Studio incorporates Spatial Array and TruSurroundHD4 technologies, unique patented technologies that create an immersive surround sound from one soundbar speaker without the need for a room full of speakers. Spatial Array Surround technology uses subtle, but complex directional cues to completely free the sound from the speaker enclosure and convince your ear/brain listening mechanism that you are surrounded multiple speakers. TruSurround HD4 elevates the sound from the speaker axis, accentuates the perception of deep bass, adjusts the high frequencies making voice and dialog much clearer, and provides a greater enveloping sound. Since both of these technologies do not depend on bouncing sound off walls, it works in virtually any room and set-up configuration.
Dolby Digital/DTS + Dolby Pro Logic II Processing: The SoloCinema Studio supports Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1ch format for maximum audio performance. You will enjoy music and movies with full dynamic impact and the highest definition, clarity and detail. The system also offers Dolby Pro Logic II processing which transforms stereo content into full-range surround sound.
Analog + Digital Connections (including HDMI): The SoloCinema Studio soundbar speaker has a full-array of inputs including HDMI (3), digital optical (1), and analog (1) allowing you to connect your Blu-Ray player, cable/satellite tuner, gaming console as well as a legacy source such as a VCR. The three HDMI inputs support both audio (up 5.1ch) and video (up to 1080p) signals for convenient hookup and neat wire management. There is also a HDMI output that feeds the audio/video signal (up to 5.1ch/1080p) from your AV source through the soundbar speaker to your flat-panel TV. The optical (toslink) digital input supports 2.1ch to 5.1ch audio. The analog (3.5mm) input supports 2ch audio only. There is also a USB port for firmware updates only.
Audio Enhancements: The SoloCinema Studio system offers a variety of audio adjustments to enhance your overall listening experience.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Definitive Technology SoloCinema Studio supports Bluetooth A2DP which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, laptop/computer, etc.. You'll be able to stream stored music or music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device. You will continue to your Bluetooth-enable mobile device for music navigation and to view song/artist information.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Definitive Technology SoloCinema Studio.
Remote Control: The SoloCinema Studio system puts you in control, simply and comfortably with its ergonomic IR remote. As you slide your finger over the remote you'll notice that all the controls are shaped with concave and convex forms to make it easy to use even in the dark. It fits perfectly in your hand, your thumb naturally falling on the most often used control (Volume). For greater convenience, you can program the SoloCinema Studio to respond to the power, volume, mute, and source select commands of your TV or cable/satellite box remote. The soundbar speaker's IR output and the included IR flasher allow the unit to be placed in front of a TV (for example, when used on a table top) without disrupting your TV's remote functions. The soundbar's IR input can be used for custom home automation systems.
Mounting Options: The SoloCinema Studio soundbar speaker offers a variety of mounting options. Supplied hardware enable the soundbar to be placed in one of three places; flat on a shelf under your flat-panel TV, raised above your TV's integrated pedestal stand, or mounted on a wall. The supplied magnetic riser feet enable you to raise the soundbar speaker (up to 5/8") in order to clear your TV's pedestal stand. If you prefer to wall mount the sound bar, it has built-in keyhole slots (spaced 32" apart). Because the powered subwoofer is wireless, you can select practically any location that best fits your lifestyle and décor. The subwoofer's unobtrusive cube form factor tucks out of the way nicely behind furniture.
