General Features
Product Overview: The Kodak ESP9 is an all-in-one machine for
your home office that allows you to
quickly print beautiful photos and high-quality text documents, copy important documents,
scan photos, forms, or even thick notebooks. You can also send and receive faxes
in color or black-and-white, and print directly from PictBridge-equipped digital cameras and camera phones.
LCD Monitor: The 3" LCD monitor displays photos, messages,
instructions, and menu items. You can navigate through the menus using the 4-way
navigation buttons. You can also monitor ink levels and the Wi-Fi signal
strength.
Control Panel: The ESP9 has a large intuitive touch control panel with
an adjustable angle. In addition to the 3" LCD monitor, the control panel has
numerous control buttons and status icons for most of the printer's operations.
Memory Card Slots: The printer has multiple slots on the front panel
for inserting memory cards. Only one memory card can be read at a time. The ESP9
supports the following memory cards, used in most digital cameras:
- XD: xD-Picture cards
- MS: Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, and MagicGate, Memory Stick
DUO (with adapter), Memory Stick Pro DUO (with adapter)
- SD: Secure Digital (SD) cards, Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC),
Multi-Media (MMC) Cards, mini-SD (with adapter), micro-SD (with adapter)
- CF: Compact Flash (Type I and Type II, including MicroDrives)
Auto Document Feeder: The Auto Document Feeder on the top of the
printer accepts up to 35 sheets of plain paper for copying and/or faxing.
Wi-Fi/Ethernet Connectivity: The ESP9 can be connected into your home
wired (Ethernet) or wireless (Wi-Fi) 802.11b/g network.
Optional Bluetooth Adapter: With the optional Kodak Wireless
2.0 USB Bluetooth Adapter (available from the manufacturer), you can print JPEG/EXIF
image file types from Bluetooth Wireless Technology-enabled devices such as
camera phones, PDAs, PCs, and digital still cameras. The adapter has a USB
dongle which plugs into the front panel USB port.
USB Interface: The printer has two USB ports. The
front-panel USB (Type A) is for connecting external devices to the printer. This
USB 2.0 Full Speed port can be used with PictBridge-compliant cameras and USB
Flash Drives. The rear-panel USB (Type B) is for connecting the printer to your
computer, and is USB 2.0 High Speed compliant.
Ink Cartridges: The ESP9 uses a 6-color, 2-cartridge pigment-based ink
system. There is a dedicated black ink tank for text, and another 5-color
(including black) cartridge for photos. You can monitor ink levels on the
control panel, and in the printer software. You can purchase the ink cartridges
separately (738BLACK and 738COLOR) or in a combo pack (738COMBO).
Printer Features
Print Head: The ESP9 uses a micro-precision
printhead with 3,840 nozzles firing 2.7 picoliter and 6.5 picoliter ink drops. The printer is capable of printing color photos with a high resolution of 9600
optimized dpi (dots per inch).
With a 1/2-inch swath height, there are fewer printhead passes, resulting in
faster print speeds.
Print Sizes: The ESP9 can make
various sizes of text documents and borderless photos. It can print using the following
paper sizes:

4 x 6 and 5 x 7 index cards, A4 and 8.5 x 11 transparency, Envelopes (C5,
C6, A2, Designated Long, and US #10), and Greeting Cards (4 x 5.5 and 4 x 8)
Print Quality: You can select "Normal", "Best", and "Draft" for text
documents. There is also a Photo mode for printing your snapshots.
Print Speeds: The printer has
the following print speeds:
- Black Text:
up to 32 pages per minute
- Color
Text: up to 30 pages per minute
- 4 x 6 in. Borderless Photo: approximately 28 seconds
Two-tray Paper Feed: The ESP9 features two paper trays:
- Top Tray: The top tray is a dedicated photo paper tray, which
will accept up to 40 sheets of photo paper, sized 4 x 6 inch, 4 x 7 inch, or
5 x 7 inch.
- Bottom Tray: The bottom tray can accept up to 100 sheets of 20 lb
plain paper or 40 sheets of 10 mil photo paper. Paper sizes from 4 x 6 inch
to 8.5 x 14 inch can be placed in the tray.
Duplexer: The ESP9 has a built-in duplexer, which saves paper by
allowing you to print on both sides of the page. Two-sided printing is possible
on plain paper only, and requires the printer to be connected to a computer.
Auto-Detect Media: The printer can automatically detect plain paper,
photo paper, and transparencies. When Kodak Photo paper is used, the barcode on
the back of the paper is detected and the image quality is optimized
automatically for best results.
PictBridge: You can connect
this printer directly to any PictBridge-compliant digital camera. PictBridge is
a standard that allows you to connect a PictBridge-compliant digital camera
directly to a PictBridge-compliant printer and make prints, regardless of brand.
Fax Features
Fax Overview: The Kodak ESP9 allows you to send and receive black and
white as well as color faxes. You can assign and use quick-dial setting for
frequently used fax recipients, and select a number of fax options from the
control panel.
Fax Phonebook: The ESP9 lets you store up to 60 fax phone numbers in
the Fax Phonebook. Those fax recipients that are frequently used can be assigned
a single-digit Quick Dial number for quicker dialing. On a Windows PC connected
to the printer, you can create and manage the Fax Phonebook using the supplied
Home Center software.
Fax Reports: You can generate the following reports from the Fax
Setting menu:
- Print Fax Confirmation Page: Prints details about faxes, one fax
at a time, based on the menu setting
- Fax Settings: information about the printer and a summer of the
current fax settings
- Fax Activity Log: details about the last 30 faxes sent and
received
Fax Settings:
- Speed: 14.4 kbps
- Resolution: Standard, Fine, Photo
- Brightness Settings: -3 to +3
Scanner Features
Overview: The ESP9 can scan text and images and convert them
into electronic data, which is sent to your computer. The printer must be
connected to a computer in order to scan using the ESP9. You can scan to the
Kodak Home Center (included in the software), a memory card or USB flash drive
connected to the front panel of the printer, to a third-party scanner software
application, or as a file on your computer.
Saving Scans: Scanned documents can be saved as a .pdf (Portable
Document Format), or .rtf (Rich Text Format). Images can be saved as a .jpeg
(Joint Photographic Experts Group) file. Multiple originals can be scanned at
one time and saved as separate files.
Optical Character Recognition: The ESP9 is compatible with Optical
Character Recognition (OCR), allowing you to edit documents after they are
scanned (.pdf and .rtf formats only)

Copier Features
Overview: The ESP9 can also be used as a copier, allowing
you to make color or black and white copies of documents and images. You can make up to 99 copies of an
original. One-touch copying is possible without having a PC. You can load up to
35 pages of plain paper documents in the Auto Document Feeder for copying.
Copy Settings: On the control panel, you can set the following:
- Quantity: 1-99 copies
- Copy Size:
- Document: same size, fit-to-page, or scale from 20% to 500%
- Photo: 4 x 6, 4 x 7 (high def), 4 x 12 (panoramic), 5 x 7, 8
x 10, 8.5 x 11, Wallet (2 x 3)

Best, or Draft
- Color: choose color or black & white

Kodak All-in-One Printer Software: The ESP9 comes with the
Kodak All-in-One Printer Home Center Software on CD-ROM. The software is
compatible with your Windows XP or Vista computer or your Macintosh OS X
computer. With the software you can:
- scan pictures and documents
- enhance and copy pictures
- enhance and print images
- configure settings for printing, copying, and scanning from the control
panel
- access the Kodak Tips and Projects Center website
- order supplies from the Kodak website
