Our take on the Kodak Zx1

From the beach to the slopes, shoot high-def video of your travels with Kodak's Zx1. This tiny video camera records high-def 720p videos and 3-megapixel still photos onto light, portable SD or SDHC™ memory cards. It features a rugged, vertical design with rubberized port covers and stainless steel paneling, so it can withstand rain, snow, and sand. A 2" LCD screen and straightforward control panel help you capture, play back, and edit your videos with ease. And since the camera weighs just 3.2 oz., you'll find it incredibly convenient to carry around in your pocket for capturing everything from family reunions to spontaneous gatherings with your friends.

Worry-free video recording and easy sharing
The Zx1 provides fully automatic video recording — simply press the record button and the camera takes care of the rest. It captures great videos in either bright or dim lighting, and uses digital blur reduction to keep your shots clear. Connect the Zx1 to your compatible HDTV using the included HDMI cable to share your movies with family and friends. You can also easily upload videos to YouTube™ using the included USB cable and the video editing software built right into the camera. Pre-charged "AA" rechargeable batteries and a convenient wall charger help you get started as soon as you open the box.

    Features

Overview: The Kodak Zx1 is a pocket-sized digital video camera that is capable of recording high definition and standard definition video and digital still images. It has a 2" LCD screen for recording and playing back your videos and still images.

File Format: The Zx1 records video in H.264 (MOV) format with AAC-LC mono audio. You can choose between the following formats:

    Format Recommended Use
    HD60:
    720p (16:9) @ 60 fps
    HDTV, with slow motion playback
    HD:
    720p (16:9) @ 30 fps
HDTV, smaller files for easier sharing
    VGA Web ready videos
    JPEG 3MP (2048 x 1536) still images
    (interpolated)

Internal Memory: The camera features a built-in 128 MB internal memory. Approximately 10 MB is available for image storage.

SD/SDHC: Optional SD or SDHC (high capacity) memory cards can be used to store videos and still images. The Zx1 can accept SD/SDHC cards up to 32 GB.

Lens: The Zx1 has a fixed focus 4.1mm, f/2.8 lens. The focusing range is 27.6" to infinity. The camera also has a 2x digital zoom.

Keypad Control: You can control the Zx1 using the built-in keypad. In record mode, you can start/stop recording, zoom in/out, and select a recording mode. In playback mode, you can play/pause the current video, raise/lower the volume, select previous/next video, delete videos, or fast-forward or fast rewind through the current video.

Playback Modes: During video playback, you can fast forward and fast rewind in 4 different speeds: 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x. You can also play in slow motion in either direction in 4 different speeds: 1/2x, 1/4x, 1/8x, and 1/16x.

HDMI and A/V Outputs: The Zx1 allows you to view your videos on your HDTV via the supplied HDMI cable (mini-HDMI to full-size HDMI). You can also connect the camera to an non-HDTV using the supplied A/V cable with mono audio and composite video.

IP43 Rated: The camera is resistant to the elements. It has rubberized doors to protect all ports, while the stainless steel panel gives it strength. It is rated IP43, which means it gives protection against entry of objects larger than 1mm (i.e. particles of dirt), and protection against water spray from an angle of up to 60° from vertical (such as falling rain or snow).

Optional Remote Control: The Zx1 has an infrared eye near the lens for use with an optional remote control (available from the manufacturer).

Power Requirements: The Zx1 operates on two "AA" batteries. Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries are recommended. Two pre-charged Ni-MH batteries are supplied with the camera, along the K630 Kodak Mini-Charger. The charger fits both "AA" and "AAA"-sized rechargeables. The supplied batteries charge in approximately 12 hours in the K630 charger. The camera also works with the KLIC-8000 Lithium-Ion rechargeable digital camera battery, as well as alkaline "AA" batteries.
