Features

Hybrid Digital Amplification: NAD has moved away from the old-fashioned power-hungry linear power supplies and Class AB output stages that waste nearly half of the energy consumed and produce heat rather than sound. Instead, NAD has developed even better performing circuits based on switch mode power supplies and Class D output stages. Once thought to be inferior to traditional topologies, this new Hybrid Digital Amplifier design is very linear over a wide bandwidth and provides consistent performance into all speaker loads, providing a dramatic advancement over previous Class AB and Class D amplifier designs.

  • Customized Hypex UcD Output Stage: The NAD C 328 uses a customized version of the proven Hypex UcD output stage. This allows for massive power with nearly immeasurable distortion and noise in the audible range. Every detail of this design has been carefully crafted and perfectly executed to deliver best performance possible.
  • Efficient Power Supply: The power supply of the C 328 is able to provide over 100 watts of audio output when needed. The C 328 can operate with any AC mains voltage from 100V to 240V and provides pure DC power to all of its various stages. This extremely efficient power supply also provides near perfect regulation of voltage across a wide range of conditions and provides a solid noise-free foundation for the amplifying stages.

Full Disclosure Power (FDP): NAD uses Full Disclosure Power (FDP), the most demanding criterion for performance measurement. FDP specifies distortion under the most extreme conditions of low impedance loads and frequency extremes, rather than the simple and easy 1kHz @ 8 ohms test quoted by many of other manufactures. NAD uses this stricter performance criterion because it more closely matches the demands of real music and real loudspeakers. Maintaining specified distortion at 4/8Ω and at 20-20kHz is a much more difficult achievement. The benefit of NAD's Full Disclosure Power is the total elimination of audible distortion at any listening level. This provides pinpoint imaging and realism with music and movies alike.

  • Continuous Power: 40 watts x 2-channel (@ 20-20kHz, into 4Ω or 8Ω, at 0.03% THD, with both channels driven)
  • IHF Dynamic Power: 90 watts 2-channel into 8Ω  or 166 watts x 2-channel into 4Ω

Bass EQ: The Bass EQ function boosts overall bass response by at least 6dB.

Digital Inputs: The NAD C 328 is equipped with two optical (toslink) digital inputs and two coaxial (RCA) digital inputs. These digital inputs will support 2ch PCM audio up to 24-bit/192kHz (not compatible with Dolby Digital/DTS).

Analog Inputs: The NAD C 328's stereo RCA inputs (2 Line/1 Phono) can accommodate all kinds of analog source components by offering ideal input impedance characteristics with linear ultra-low-noise buffer amplifiers to prevent any sonic degradation caused by inappropriate loading of the source device.

MM Phono Stage w/ RIAA Equalization: The NAD C 328 hybrid digital integrated amplifier includes an MM Phono stage with precisely accurate RIAA equalization, high overload margins, extremely low noise, and an innovative circuit to suppress infrasonic noise that is present on all LPs - all without affecting bass response.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: Built-in Bluetooth allows you to wirelessly stream your music library, music apps, podcasts, audiobooks, and other audio content on your Bluetooth source device (such as your smartphone, tablet, or laptop) to the NAD C 328. You can control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, and Volume Up/Down) from the included IR remote. You can only pair and connect one device at a time.

Note: The included antenna must be connected to the rear-panel of the integrated amp in order for Bluetooth to work.

Discrete Headphone Amplifier: The NAD C 328 incorporates a discrete headphone amplifier with low output impedance and very high output voltage capability, enough to drive even high impedance studio monitor headphones. Connecting a set of headphone to unit's front-panel 1/4" jack will mute the speaker outputs. Volume, tone, and balance controls are all operable during headphone listening.

Binding Post Speaker Outputs: The speaker output terminals consist of four binding posts to connect a single pair of loudspeakers. The amplifier supports 4Ω to 8Ω speakers. These binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single only). You'll need to remove the plastic inserts within the binding-post terminals to connect banana plugs.

Sub Out: The NAD C C328 is equipped with a mono-RCA subwoofer output for connection of a powered sub. The subwoofer out features a fixed low-pass crossover set a 100Hz.

IR Remote: The included IR remote provides wireless operation of the C 328 hybrid digital integrated amplifier and basic playback control of your connected Bluetooth source device.

RS-232 Port: The RS-232 port allows connection to a compatible PC or external whole-house control system. NAD is a certified partner of Control4, Crestron, RTI, URC, AMX, Savant, & Elan.

Auto Sense & Auto Standby: The Auto Sense feature enables the C 328 to wake up from standby mode when triggered by an active analog or digital source input with an audio signal. The C 328 can also be setup to automatically go into standby mode if there is no user interface interaction and no active source input for 20 minutes.

Q
Is this amp 40 or 50 watts RMS? NAD's site says 50, but your site says 40.
samuel  Feb 25, 2022
4 answers
A
I've had this same question for a while now because I already own the amp and want to start looking into some lower sensitivity speakers. There is conflicting information regarding watts (40 vs 50) on multiple retail websites, reviews, and even NAD's own website. As evidence of my scrutiny, I got in touch with NAD's customer support team two separate times and asked this topic question. First answer was simply "40 watts," second answer was a bit more thorough, stating the c328 and c338 are essentially the same amp. Same DAC, same watts (50), same everything except the c338 has Chromecast. Also curious, the physical back side of the c328 says 80 watts total (so 40 per channel??) End of the day, I guess I'll hook it up to some speakers and see how it powers them.
max  Apr 07, 2023
A
NAD site rates Continuous Output at 50 watts but measures Total Harmonic Distortion up to 40 watts. Difference may be the way Crutchfield chooses to define power? Hope this helps.
myron  Feb 25, 2022
A
The power rating is 50 watts into both 4 and 8 ohms, with dynamic power up to 80 watts in 8 ohms and 150 watts in 4 ohms. Hope that clears it up.
stephen  Feb 25, 2022
A
According to my information it is 40 watts into either 8 or 4 ohms.
michael  Feb 25, 2022
Q
Does the NAD 328 have switchable voltage ?
john  Nov 25, 2021
1 answer
A
There is nothing that indicates that it has switchable voltage. The owners manual makes no mention of switchable voltage and there is nothing on the back panel that would allow access to any kind of voltage variance switch. Usage in the US and Canada is no problem.

Q
Is this unit ok to be paird with bright sounding speakers?

A
I love nad but the volume control on this model is terrible. I don't recommend it
mark  Nov 15, 2021
A
I would think so. It's an excellent amp, which I have enjoyed very much. I have it paired with Jamo 809 towers which are a little on the forward sounding side. I think it's a great piece.
mark  Nov 15, 2021
A
Yes. It has a neutral to warm sound. It is a solid 40 watts into both 8 and 4 ohms, so should be fine with medium to very sensitive speakers. If your room is very large, then you might want an amp with a little more oomph, in the 75+ watt range. For my small room it is just fine, fills the space when I want it to. It can make my Wharfedale Dentons and Cambridge Audio Minx X301 subwoofer perform very well.
stephen  Nov 14, 2021
A
Mine is paired with the klipsch rp500m speakers. I would say they are bright sounding speakers and in my opinion the match up is great.
michael  Nov 14, 2021
A
What "bright-sounding speakers" are we talking about? Do you like a "bright sound" emanating from your speakers? If so, the NAD will be fine. It will not of itself generate a bright sound, since, in my experience, the NAD is neutral sounding and does not bring additional brightness to a decent system. Having said that, I should add that I am 72 years old, with hearing that is gradually less sensitive to high frequencies. You may find the system too bright if you still retain high frequency response, but I do not think k it won't be the fault of the NAD.
roy  Nov 14, 2021
A
It depends if you want to adjust the treble manually. The 328 only has a bass boost, no other adjustments. If you use a DAC and stream from a computer then you can use a parametric filter for adjustments. In general, I found the 328 to be neutral sounding using ELAC debut 6 speakers.
steve  Nov 14, 2021
Q
Can I use 6ohm speaker with this ?
kiet  Apr 11, 2021
2 answers
A
Yes. According to the NAD specifications in the manual. It references 8ohm and 4ohm. 6ohm is fine.
joseph  Apr 23, 2021
A
Yes. My Wharfedale Denton 80 speakers are rated at 6 ohms and this unit drives them wonderfully. Usually I have the volume set between -30 and -20, and the latter is quite loud in my 12 x 18 listening room. I listen to a lot of classical music and jazz, and the dynamic range the unit can emit is excellent.
stephen  Apr 23, 2021
Q
Is it 40 watts rms or peak?
andrew  Mar 23, 2021
1 answer
A
Dynamic power into 8 ohms is 80 watts, into 4 ohms is 150 watts. The data sheet can be found on the NAD c328 page under downloads

Q
I currently have a Onkyo A-9555 integrated amplifier paired with Polk Audio monitor 40 series II speakers and Polk psw-10 sub, and I primarily listen to CD's and vinyl records. How would the sound quality of the NAD compare ?
aaron  Aug 05, 2020
4 answers
A
Yes it will...nice built in DAC, good amp and has a phono stage as well
peter  Aug 08, 2020
A
Hi Aaron, I never have Onkyo A-9555 so I can't answer your question about that. This NAD is great on playing old vinyl and Bluetooth but not so good on CDs.
aurel  Aug 06, 2020
A
Looks like the frequency response on the Onkyo is rated a bit better than the NAD. 10 Hz-60 kHz Frequency Response for the Onkyo, and Response Bandwidth: 20 - 20000 Hz - SNR - 95 dB - THD - 0.03% for the NAD. I guess it depends on your subwoofer, but I think the one you have starts around 30 Hz. I am very happy with the sound quality of the NAD. I haven't done a side by side comparison, but I know Onkyo WAS a great amp several years ago, but the NAD brand was always held in higher regard. That may still be the case, not sure. Either way, I am a life-long fan of NAD products and am very happy with it, especially for vinyl. Hope this helps!
benjamin  Aug 05, 2020
A
I haven't heard the Onkyo but given a choice I'd go with the 368. I bought a 328 from crutchfield and it won't turn the sub off. I switched to a 368 and it works fine. It sounds incredible. But Crutchfield would not help solve the problem.

Q
How do I connect the USB output of my server to the C328 which doesn't have USB input? resently I connect it to the USB input of my PS Audio Sprout I want to replace this with the C328
florie  Apr 17, 2019
3 answers
A
There are a number of ways you could do this, but I don't think any of them are simple. They may all involve additional purchases. You will have to convert the signal to bluetooth, digital optical, digital coax or analog. Exactly how you would do this would depend on your server and what other equipment you have. I stream FLAC and other digital files to it, for example, by using an OPPO Blueray player which connects to a hard drive with lots of digital files via USB. The signal is then output via an optical connection to the NAD. I think I am using the DAC in the NAD, although the OPPO has a DAC as well. I could use the OPPO to connect via USB to a server, but I don't because of where I have positioned things in my house. If your server is connected to a computer with Bluetooth capabilities, you can stream from the server to the computer and then output the signal as a Bluetooth signal. (You could probably do this with a tablet as well.) I stream via Bluetooth a lot and the sound quality is good (surprisingly good in fact--it obviously does not make much difference if a digital signal is transmitted wirelessly or over a copper cable or over a glass fiber). If none of these solutions work with your current equipment, you could try other systems (e.g. USB to USB enabled DAC to C328 analog input or server-to bluetooth enabled streaming device to C328) but I am not sure they would be cost effective.
berl  Apr 17, 2019
A
Can you find a converter for the Optical Output? Or, a converter from USB to RCA would work. Lastly, if you can convert your server's signal to Bluetooth, that would work too. But the Bluetooth connection is not as good as Optical or RCA. Not sure this helps but that's all I can think of. Good luck!
benjamin  Apr 17, 2019
A
The short answer is yoiu CANNOT connect it to this device because there is NO USB input on this device; however, if you have RCA outputs or BlueTooth outputs you can connect it to this device....Also, Digital COAXIAL inputs or OPTICAL inputs also work. This device provides a lot of inputs, but NOT USB.
jose aleman  Apr 17, 2019
Q
can you stream tidal?
samuel  Feb 19, 2019
5 answers
A
I've not tried Tidal, however, we stream Spotify & Pandora all the time.
brian  Feb 19, 2019
A
Tidal streams high resolution lossless FLAC or ALAC files or (not lossless) AAC files. The streams have to be decoded and converted to a digital stream or analog output. You can certainly stream Tidal to a computer or iOS device which decodes, converts to a high res digital signal which it sends via bluetooth, optical cable, digital wire cable or, I think, USB to the NAD C 328. The NAD C 328 DAC will convert the signal to analog and it is then amplified to drive the speakers. So it should work fine but you will need an iOS device or Mac or Windows computer with a bluetooth, digital or analog output as an intermediary. I use mine to play streamed music all the time using the bluetooth connection. This works very well but I don't stream hi res lossless. The NAD C 328 does not allow one to boost trebble, but it works very well with my system. It is very transparent. I play FLAC and ALAC files through it, but these are downloaded files rather than streaming files.
berl  Feb 19, 2019
A
The NAD C328 is Bluetooth capable Only. As long as your bt capable device like a smartphone or tablet streams tidal it should work.
steve  Feb 19, 2019
A
Absolutely. You can stream anything you want. Even YouTube. All work great with this unit.
thomas  Feb 19, 2019
A
This unit does not support WiFi - only Bluetooth. I suppose you could use some other device connected to the internet to stream it and send a bluetooth signal to this unit. But now that I just wrote that, it makes about as much sense as buying a new Porsche and only driving it up and down your driveway. The concept of TITAL is that they stream at a higher definition than the other streaming music products, so this gain would get lost to the limitations of Bluetooth.
neil  Feb 19, 2019
Q
Can the bass / treble be adjusted via the remote?
harvey  Nov 11, 2018
9 answers
A
there's no bass/treble controls at all
walter darek  Nov 12, 2018
A
The remote only has a volume control, and a button which is the same as pushing the BASS EQ button on the amplifier. It also has a DIM button which I assume is for dimming the display. There's also a mute button on the remote. It does NOT have treble and bass controls on it.
jose aleman  Nov 12, 2018
A
Yes
martin  Nov 12, 2018
A
No. It's either on or off. No adjustment possible except to click it on, click it off. If you're streaming it's fine. You can use settings from your phone or computer app. I was told, after the fact, by a Crutchfield guy, that the pre amp is "inferior" to the NAD I had used for 30 years. Wish I'd looked into it more thoroughly. Really sucks for vinyl. Bad. But if you're streaming you'll be fine.
catherine  Nov 11, 2018
A
Not as such, but the remote does have a button to turn on or off the "BASS EQ" which boosts the bass by +6db.
andrew  Nov 11, 2018
A
yes the bass eq can be turned on via remote - but it is a bass boost if you will i.e. on/off - not a dynamic adjustment from 1-10 ....
james  Nov 11, 2018
A
Bass and treble cannot be adjusted on this unit. Bass could be boosted by pressing BASS EQ button on unit or BASS button on remote. Hope this helps.
pedro jose  Nov 11, 2018
A
No it can not
william  Nov 11, 2018
A
There is no bass/treble adjustment on the remote or amplifier just a bass boost on both. It provides an additional boost of low frequencies when using small speakers. However this amp provides a well balanced sound throughout the entire frequency spectrum. Pair it with the best speakers you can afford. That is important. I never use tone controls, instead keeping the response flat. Hope this helps.
