Old component stereo revitalized
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
So glad to have components back on line. Receiver works as promised so far. Replaced 1985 Pioneer amp and tuner with this. Does a great job driving 4 old 150 watt vintage cabinet speakers. 2 of the speakers are 1974 Pioneers, other 2 1984 Pioneers. Old, but amazing sound. This receiver brings out the best in all my old components including a 1974 Pioneer turntable, which has always been my baby. The FM has great reception, far better than I've ever had. The Soft Clipping is a great option. I just leave it on. For an old component guy, this unit is a great pick. So glad it does have the MP3 pin connection. The quality of sound when listening to my MP3 is fantastic. I also must say I noticed, when finally deciding to buy this unit, that there was a scratch and dent available. I've never purchased a scratch and dent, EVER! However, after speaking to one of Crutchfield's advisers, I'm glad I did. I'm still not exactly certain why it was even considered a scratch and dent, and it saved me $120. Although I had to buy a preamp, through the preamp my turntable sounds better now than it did in 1974, amazing.... All in all, after driving myself crazy researching, I'm glad this was my pick. After being happy for 30 years plus with my vintage system, this replacement serves justice to my well preserved original pieces. The customer care and advise were both spectacular. Crutchfield's customer service, advise and fast shipping made me a believer.....
Pros: Great power, sound and RCA inputs. Creates very pure sound with almost no distortion. Like that it has connections for a powered sub-woofer, MP3. Soft clippings and radio blending controls are very nice options. I'll never use the 2nd zone option, but for some it would probably be very useful. For stereo component lovers, I think this receiver is the one.
Cons: I'm not crazy about the wireless controller, but really, other than volume I wouldn't use it anyway. No phono jack. It does have turntable option with a preamp, which I purchased. I have plenty of room for my components in my stereo space. This receiver does require quite a bit of room. If you have the need for a compact sized receiver, sadly, you may need to look at other options.
