What happens when NAD, creator of high-performance home theater and hi-fi components turns their attention to the iPod dock? The VISO 1, that's what. The system is a composition of curved, flowing lines and surfaces, giving the VISO 1 a beautifully organic look while enhancing the acoustic performance of the speakers.
Inside the VISO 1 is an array of sophisticated electronic circuitry. The system bypasses the DAC (digital-to-analog converter) in your Apple device to bring the digital music files into the VISO 1 for decoding by its own advanced DAC. Each of the two high-performance full-range speakers has its own amp, ensuring accurate, robust sound quality. And the two speakers are housed separately, to prevent acoustic cross-interference, keeping the sound clean and clear.
VISO was co-designed with NAD's sister company PSB, known for their high-performance speakers. Their expertise went into the VISO 1's carefully constructed woofer. It handles the low frequencies, delivering clean, full bass. A special circuit compensates for clipping, so even at maximum volume there's no harsh distortion with your music. You'll enjoy a spacious soundfield that has real presence.
The key to the VISO 1's exceptional wireless sound quality is Bluetooth aptX, a technology that retains virtually all the detail of the audio it carries. But don't worry if you don't have the latest and greatest device the VISO 1 is also backwards-compatible with earlier forms of Bluetooth. So you can wirelessly stream your music from almost any portable device and still enjoy great sound.
Enjoy video and photos stored on your iPod or iPhone on "the big screen." The VISO 1 has component video output to deliver the highest quality images from your docked player to your TV. The dock rotates, so you can orient your player horizontally or vertically.
The sound is excellent: strong bass, good mid-range and trebles. The UI is limited by what the iPod allows, so if you allow the iPod to lock, the remote with the NAD won't be able to start it playing again until you wake up the iPod from its own screen.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Limited UI
Sounds great, one of the best if not the best sounding iPod dock I've heard great price from Crutchfield and very fast shipping I would highly recommend
Pros: Bluetooth, light weight, price, sound, and it has a very long cord
It is amazing how much and the quality of sound this small system produces. It is as good as they say. I very much enjoy using it with Spotify Exteam streaming docked by Iphone. It does make a diffrence docked verses Bluetooth don't let they kid you. I am not saying it is not a quality sound but I will say it falls short of the quality that it exudes when it is docked. I have several systems that cost much more than this little dock and I will say it gives them a good run for the money.
Pros: Very small and ezy to use. Very smooth and full rang audio.
The NAD Visio exceeded my expectations. It is a perfect addition to my game room. The design, ease if use, and sound quality fantastic.
Pros: Bass response and sharpness of the highs.
Cons: There is a button to go from Ipod source to bluetooth, but no indication showing what source you are using. It isn't too much of a problem, just takes a little getting use to it.
Great sound, big volume, could have been done with less base, more high end, but great buy for the money, can fill a room or good size outdoor area
Cons: Heavy bass
Sound is great. Unfortunately blue tooth functionalty is severely limited. My devices must be close and the signal seems to cut out way to often. The only way I can use it is with my phone actually plugged into it.
Pros: Awesome sound
Cons: Crappy blue tooth...
Ended up deciding to give this system a shot to replace a Boston Acoustics desktop system, largely because the clearance price (they've updated the model) seemed too good to pass up. It turns out I would have been satisfied with it at full price. Easy connectivity, excellent sound for its size (articulates low-end particularly well), and seems to be very good build quality.
Pros: Great overall sound--to my ears, beats comparable Bose, etc. Truly outstanding articulation at low end, without overpowering. Easy bluetooth connectivity. Easy Ipod connectivity.
Cons: Stereo separation isn't as good as some comparably priced systems if compared at full price. Doesn't reproduce solo strings as well as some systems I've had before.
Easy to set-up. Sounds great. Full range with excellent bass response.
Pros: Excellent sound for the price.
Cons: Not sure if we'll use the video out. About 25ft range max with iPhone 4S bluetooth.
One of the best speakers you can buy, or for the price, buy it now!
Pros: Great sound, looks stylish, nice size speaker.
Great sound, good quality but just a bit larger than I thought.
Bought this after doing a bunch if internet research. Smokin deal for the price, used it for movies in the backyard and it provided great sound. Somehow it doesn't sound as good inside though...
Pros: Easy to use sounds great in backyard
Cons: Can't remove iPod holder, we never use it. Bluetooth does the trick.
Sounds great and has a very clear range that can be distinguished between treble and bass frequencies.
Pros: Sounds amazing
I have a separate NAD power amp and pre-amp for my main home stereo - so I am familiar and generally pleased with the sonic attributes of their products - these drive Martin Logan speakers. The NAD VISO 1 is a well made product and for the price, its a great bargain. I have the new Iphone 5S so it does not directly hook into the NAD unit - rather I rely upon the blue tooth feature to listen to music. Although built by an audiophile company - the unit does not offer the true depth of sound you get from a full stereo system - with separate speakers. However, what the NAD VISO 1 product offers is decent bass in a relatively small package and can operate at reasonably loud sound levels without too much distortion. Sound reproduction is not colored and does not cause listening fatigue. For most listeners I believe the product will be a sound purchase. For those seeking true experience audiophile you will have to invest considerably more. Would I buy this product again? Yes - absolutely. I use this product in a second home (apartment) living room.
Pros: Well constructed, attractive package with easy interface. Decent - or very good - sound reproduction in a small form factor. Overall high quality.
Cons: Mediocre remote - almost an after thought - NAD should have spent a couple more hours of time designing this element.
A steal for price.
Pros: I played Jeannie Luc Ponty "Intuition" and I was sold.
Cons: Should have bought two more.
This review factors in available price reduction(s) due to older 30-pin iPod dock. Rating would still be very high, but current value for money is superb. To have quality sound available in different locations is important to us. The NAD Viso 1 is reasonably easy for anyone to move around and requires only line power for full functionality with a range of portable sources. We use iPod Touch 5 (with lightning adapter), or its Bluetooth 4.0, or Surface RT running Spotlite App. I am lifelong pianist/keyboardist and fairly critical of products which fail to provide 'decent' reproductions of acoustic piano recordings. The NAD Viso 1 meets my/our needs given typical listening environment(s) on quiet, private, rear decks or in activity rooms ..... garage, sewing, bedroom. NAD Support has been outstanding and has increased my awareness of VISO 1's quality amplifier and speaker designs. We are quite pleased with this purchase and are even considering a second VISO 1 for concurrent listening in multiple locations. Using an Apple TV, connecting with toslink optical digital cable allows convenient Airplay of various music files from iPod Touch 5 (or other capable sources.).
Pros: Quality, appearance, portability, ease of setup & use, remote control
Cons: iPod dock adapter and 'iffy' mounting security for Apple lightning connector devices. This is no issue for us with only two adults involved, and is far more than offset by current pricing (July 2014). iPod Classic (30-pin) would be a great alternative source.
Unbelievable! I have purchased 3 or 4 Ipod docks in my life and NEVER (even the ones I paid $500.00 for) could ever out perform the Nad Viso 1 Ipod doc. The real bonus is that I paid only $250.00 for this outstanding unit. I think I am going to get another one. Great sound, easy to operate, and has digital input so I can listen to my deck for music, news, etc. in crystal clear audio. Top it off with free shipping and a no hassle return policy, you have the best of both worlds. Thank you Crutchfield, you really nailed this one! Bob
Pros: Best analog to digital converter I have ever heard. Free shipping, great price.
Cons: Nothing except I had to choose either white or black.
This is a nice, solid, well built powered speaker. Very good sound for the size and very easy to set up. I bought a Denon Cocoon before this one, but had to return it because it would not connect to the Wifi. This unit connected with no problem. It's being used to stream I-tunes radio and Pandora from the iPhone with no problems.
Pros: We'll built. Sounds very good. Easy to use and set up. Looks good. Cannot beat this speaker for the price.
Cons: None, so far.
After an enormous amount of research on wireless speaker systems. I decided to go with the NAD VISO 1 and the current $250 price tag was a factor, but after hearing it I would have paid full price!!!! I've only connected via Bluetooth from my iPhone 5s so far and the sound is JUST AMAZING!! The BASS is amazing!!! I would give it 10 stars but the only allow 5...LOL!!! I could go on and on about this unit because it's that nice, but HEARING IS BELIEVING!!! If you are on the fence with your decision, then let me help.....BUY THIS UNIT, because you won't be disappointed!!!
Pros: THE SOUND!!! It's crystal clear and without distortion even at its loudest!!
Cons: ABSOLUTELY NONE!!!!
After doing a Lot of searching for a larger direct wire blue tooth speaker system I settled on this NAD unit. I have not been disappointed grat sound easy to set up and connect and did I say great sound and it gets loud with no distortion this unit with the old apple connection is the buy of the year get it while you can
Sound a lots better if use equalizer (adiust manually)
This is one incredible sound system. BUY IT NOW!! Take advantage of the clearance price, this is definitely worth the original price. The sound is clear, with great bass.
Pros: Beautiful sound and incredible price
Cons: not very portable, it is a little heavy, but well made
sound was amazing for a unit opt this
Sound was amazing for a unit of this size and price. Bass was terrific. Plenty of volume. Exceptional value. The only reason I brave it a 4 star rating rather than a 5 star was because I could not get my older I-pod to work with the speaker. The I-pod fit perfectly on the deck but I copuld not play the recorded music from the I-pod.
Cons: lack of rca in port.
If you're a music fan and care about how your music sounds. You'll love the deep rich sound from this wireless speaker. It's not super light and small, nor is it very heavy or too large. Though it may not be the most easily portable wireless speaker available - it's certainly one of the best, if not the best, in terms of sound quality. No regrets on this purchase! Bluetooth synching with iOS and Android is quick and easy.
Pros: Top notch sound quality.
Cons: Not the most easily portable of wireless speakers. But with good speakers and component build, you're not going to get anything super light.
Bought this for my son's graduation to take to college for dorm use. Sound quality is outstanding. Very easy to use - docking (although not lightning connection) or bluetooth. He and his friends love it. The sale price made this a great value. I have now bought one for myself.
Pros: Sound quality and volume; ease of use; appearance-interesting, kind of "artsy"
Cons: It doesn't have lightning connection or apple airplay, but bluetooth works well, so for the price/quality, I do not consider this a major issue.
Incredible solid sound for that size of speaker. It was easy to set up my ipod, and iphone 5 bluetooth audio. In summary great option for those seaking bluetooth speakers.
Pros: high fidelity sound with great basd
Cons: ipod dock with 30 pin connector
Excellent quality, fills the room with crystal clear sound and surprising bass. the design works well with any interior setting. Crutchfield is second to none in service and remarkable deals.
Pros: sound, sound, sound for an iPod dock! one, if not the best on the market in its field and value for money.
Cons: of yet, nothing! does what its designed for very, very well.
Expensive, but sounds good compared to others. No separate bass or treble controls but to my ear the sound output is right on. IMPORTANT--with this model understand that the newer iPod Touch with the Lightening style connection will not work, and if you add an adapter, the height will be too long and will not fit in the designed area. This model is being highly discounted, so I assume it is on its way out. If you have an older iPod, it seems to be a good deal. Crutchfield gives excellent service.
Pros: Great full sound for the size. Good value when discounted.
Cons: No bass, treble controls. Does not work with new iPod touch with Lightening connector.
Better than I expected! Terrific sound, quality build.
Pros: Great sound!
Phenomenal sound in an attractive package at a very reasonable price. Excellent service and timely delivery. Would definitely recommend purchasing from your company to everyone.
Pros: Deep, tight bass, crisp highs, remote, attractive unit and lenghthy power cord
Cons: None so far
I'm a longtime NAD owner so I'm not surprised by the solid build and great sound quality. The unit looks great and sounds even better. Bluetooth from my iphone and ipad is easy to set up with great sound quality.
Crutchfield service was great as always
Pros: Sound quality from Bluetooth
Cons: Not compatible with older ipod
First, I was impressed with the overall packaging. I am big on quality and presentation and I could tell that someone loved this unit prior to shipping it off!!!! This wireless sysstem is a great assett to my work out room. Although unusual looking (for me), it dosen't take up too much room and packs a rich and powerful sound. I am very happy with this purchase.
Pros: This system was super easy to use. Just plug it in, and turn in on!
Great looking product with great sound, but larger than I was hoping. Docking station for Ipod/Iphone was bulky and awkward.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Bulky docking station
Sound is great
Pros: I have not heard a better sounding wi-do speaker
Cons: Need a adapter for I-phone5
The sound of this equipment is amazing, the crisp digital sound it produces is worthy of audiophile. Ease of set up and use, digital music, specially high definition, copy every sound and with no distortion.
Pros: Great sound, ease of use, modern look and good construction quality.
Cons: A bit heavy.
It was time to replace my aging Bose SoundDock Portable which had served me well over the years. I checked out several devices at my local B/M stores in the $400 to $700 range with my overall objective being sound quality 1st, form factor 2nd and functionality 3rd. Listening in the store is never really helpful so I purchased a few speakers and brought them home, checking out offerings from Bose and Sonos. While they had nice form, functionality and build quality, the sound quality just wasn't up to spec. I read reviews about the NAD Viso 1 and decided to give it a shot. I ordered from Crutchfield and the shipping is first rate - got it in 2 days with no shipping cost WOW is this thing impressive! The detail and presence of music is mighty impressive. The bass is fantastic without a hint of port noise or rattling. Not only does the Viso 1 sound great up close but it projects very well across a large room or outdoors. Low quality recordings and low bit-rate MP3 files are made apparent at times and if you don't have detailed and dynamic sound emitting from the Viso 1 its due to the music files
Pros: Bang for the buck, build quality, sound quality and volume. Also very easy to setup and use
Cons: I would prefer a matte finish over the glossy
I purchased the VISO 1 as a gift for my wife, so rather than the highest possible integrity, I was more focused on a system that is easy to use and sounds good. That describes this unit exactly. We've been pumping music through it, off and on, for a week or so now, and the Bluetooth has yet to drop. The sound feels a little flat and mid-heavy, seems to lack crystalline highs and thunderous lows. Overall, though, it is more than adequate to fire up while working around the house or as background music for some 42 and cocktails. Originally, I was leaning toward the Zepplin Air, looking for the best possible acoustic recreation, but, after reading numerous reviews, I determined that going with a Bluetooth unit would save both cash and frustration, while still providing great sound. So, if you are more casual listener than audiophile, and have no desire to embark on a complicated setup, the VISO 1 comes highly recommended.
Pros: Ease of setup and usage; Reliability; Room filling sound; Value.
Cons: Lacks definition at extreme high and low end.
This unit was purchased to provide my wife portable system with decent sound quality. So far we are both pleased with the sound of this unit. It actually surpasses what I expected from a unit of this size. The only gripes, and they are small, is that it would be nice if there were an indicator showing the currently selected source and a bit more robust remote control for using a 'docked' iPod. The remote control appears to only allow you to skip forward and backward within the currently selected album or artist, you cannot fully control the iPod's navigation. But since my wife is primarily using the unit via the blue tooth link to her smart phone, this is a minor issue.
Pros: Excellent build quality, surprisingly good sound quality -- as expected from NAD.
Cons: No selected source indicator, minimal iPod control via the remote.
Wow, just got this today and its sounds great. Very happy with this purchase and with Crutchfield. I was burned by another on-line site before and I was hesitant to take another chance, glad I did.
Pros: Plays loud and clean (Not blaring but loud). Met expectations especially after reading all these reviews.
Just received by Viso 1 today and am very happy. It plays loud and hits pretty hard. I can't imagine there are many other wireless music systems that match this NAD for $299. For the price this system can't be beat.
Sound is incredible. It was pricey but the sound is one in a million. I have a Samsung sound bar that I bought with my TV (both from Crutchfield, ofcourse :)) and that was playing my music before. However, the bad thing about this was I could only play from my PlayStation 3 which was old music I put on there. And the sound bar sounded good but after a certain volume level it lost detail and I could hear hisses, pops, and a high pitch screech which was annoying. So I finally chose the NAD Viso and got that home I was super stoked! I just have to turn the NAD Viso on connect my laptop with the Bluetooth feature which takes seconds, and I can listen to music right from my laptop anywhere in my room/house. Freaking sweet!! And if I feel like plugging in my IPod classic for some more music choices then I can just connect it to the front connector. I have to say that the Bluetooth feature really makes this system that much more awesome. Nice bass response, not rumbling, window shaking bass but it is a nice solid bass. The amps for each speaker creates great response from the speakers and clear, music that sounds alive and real.
Pros: Bluetooth, amps for each speaker, ported bass, and the best part is that it is sold by Crutchfield.
Cons: Pricey, the IPod connector is sensitive so my IPod doesn't just connect I have to play around with it before my IPod actually connects, sensor for remote is at the bottom near the ON light which is not so convenient.
It's as good as my Bowers & Wilkins speaker with the added convenience of portability. I usually leave it in the sunroom and move it out back while we are in the pool. It has exceptional sound even with the noise from the water features of the swimming pool going. I can only crank up the NAD VISO about two-thirds without blowing out the neighbors! It sounds great whether it is hooked to my iPod directly or using the Bluetooth. The bass is as good as promised. It really is an awesome sound system. We play everything from The Beach Boys to Flo Rida to Mozart and it reproduces the highs and lows wonderfully. I am very pleased with this purchase!
Pros: Great sound system and Crutchfield is an awesome company. I bought my first car stereo from Crutchfield for my Trans Am in 1979 and they always deliver as promised! When the delivery guy handed this box to me he said "Whatever this is, it will probably rock, because Crutchfield only carries great products." I thought that was funny but I agree.
Cons: An attachment for the remote to keep it handy would've been nice.
Sound is exactly as good as you hope, which is GREAT! Low end is crazy good. Room ambiance and stereo separation is terrific - I've used this in a small room (11 x 12) and large (22 x 30) with the same great results. Also works great as a "sound bar" for your flat screen TV via the optical IN port. Got a "WD TV Live" or similar streaming HDMI device to watch movies and TV shows from your home PC on your flat screen TV? The optical OUT can feed the sound to your VISO's optical IN to get BIG SOUND while you watch the picture on your TV.
Pros: Compact, ridiculous sound quality, powerful, excellent analog-to-digital conversion, solid construction
Cons: remote could be much better (very) minor - wish the power cord plug was positioned differently to avoid pressure if the unit rocks backwards.
I tried a Sonos Play 5 first, the sound was OK, however it was difficult to connect and I had to play around with the bridge location. In the end the connectivity just wasn't good enough so the customer service folks at Crutchfield and the tech support folks were excellent and helped me swap to the VISO 1. WOW, what a difference, superb sound quality and up and running in less than 5 minutes. Took it out on the porch and had the neighbors round admiring the sound. I'm very happy.
Pros: Great bass and mid/high range.
Cons: Still got an iPhone 4S, so I'm OK, presumably NAD will come out with and adaptor for the 5, or Bluetooth works really well.
I was looking for the best product within this price range. I looked at every product that I could find within my budget including reading several reviews.. The NAD Viso 1 fit the criteria and met my expectations.
Pros: The performance for the price is very good. I was very pleased with the bass extension for a product this size. My other concern was how well it would fill a 19 ft x 15 ft room. The Viso did not disappoint..
Cons: I wished the product had Airplay capability. This is the only reason why I did not give it a 5 star rating..
Great product! Wonderful sound and as easy to setup and use as "falling over.". And, as usual, Crutchfield's service and delivery was "Way above average".
The only downside I've had was with the "remote" but since I'm using the Viso on my bedside table it's a "non-iissue" for me. The remote was "DOA" and could not be revived even with new batteries. RIP
Pros: Looks great, sounds greaat
Cons: Sad Remote
It is likely that at 65, I am one of the older buyers of this type of product. Frankly, I was surprised that a unit that is relatively small compared to the types of floor standing speakers purchased over the years, could put out such high quality sound. Not bass heavy like the Bose SoundDock 10 that I was able to preview locally, but seemingly true to the original recordings. Used in an open room measuring app. 15' x 20', the NAD provides all the volume we will ever need for a variety of music including rock, classical, and country. I used an IPod Classic as the direct source, and bluetooth for the current generation of IPad. Sound is considerably better from the direct source and adequate thru bluetooth from Pandora or YouTube. Portability was not an issue for us - the object was to get the best sound with the smallest footprint without going crazy with the price. I think we got our money's worth and then some.
Pros: Clear, true sound with good reproduction from bass to treble. Since that actual sound is by far the most important thing, I gave the NAD five stars in spite of the issues below.
Cons: Really cheesy remote. For the price, I would not think that an on/off button would be too much too ask. It may be just my limited experience with bluetooth, but for people that are really interested in the actual sound (as opposed to convenience, etc.), I think that it is disappointing. Tends to cut-out for about a half-second on a random basis. Hopefully, as the technology improves, that will no longer be an issue.
Set up in seconds and sounds great. Came in a large box that barely fit in my car. But the unit is of a manageable size. Solid. Heavy, but well balanced and carries very well using the metal bar that mounts the ipod as a handle. Should carry easily from room to room, or into the car to carry to an event. I would remove the ipod before moving the unit.
The sound is big enough to fill a large space. The clear, well balanced sound earns the Viso 1 an undeniable 5 star rating.
I can't hear my phone ring when the unit is on. I guess I could turn the volume down, but that is unlikely. What a pleasure to have such great sound from a single table-top unit.
Pros: Has a video output, which I have not used, but will allow me to view videos or photos from my ipod on a large monitor. The clip that holds the ipod in place is is solidly built and has a cushion on the top that will keep from scratching the ipod. It feels like it would take real abuse to damage this clip. There is a handy little button on the top to mute the system.
Cons: While the clip that hold the ipod in place is well built, the ipod is only gently secured, and could possibly fall out if the unit is jarred. There is a tiny blue light at the bottom of the unit to indicate when the unit is turned on. It is not visible when I am standing in front of the unit. While it is nice that the light is unobtrusive, it is difficult to tell if the system is muted or off. A second light for mute mode would be handy.
I bought this because I was looking for something to act both as a sound-bar for my cheapo TV, and an iPod dock. This product fit the bill perfectly. I'm not an audio buff, but I think the sound is great. It's not going to blow the roof off and wake the neighbors, or shake the walls with bass, but if you just want to fill a living room with music it'll do fine.
The set up is easy. Stick your iPod in the front, plug the digital audio from your cable box in the back, and power it up. And if you want to play music from your cellphone or laptop, just pair up the bluetooth and away you go. (The audio quality from the bluetooth is also surprisingly good; indistinguishable from the other sources.)
Crutchfield's service & tech support were also first rate. (I had some trouble with the menu on the cable box and after going through tech support phone menu help with Time Warner, it was a great relief to speak to an actual intelligent human being at Crutchfield.)
The bluetooth connection worked perfectly first time,
Pros: 1. High build quality & design. 2. Excellent audio quality. 3. Very easy to use. 4. Acts as a soundbar for that cheapo flat screen TV you bought. 5. Plays music (or radio, podcasts, etc.) from your smartphone or computer.
I have been searching for quite some time for a compact iPod sound system that isn't compact in sound. My most recent effort was in Bose's Wave Music System III, which I obtained with the valuable 90-day return option if not satisfied. I returned it within 1 month as it was woefully incapable of handling its own low end, causing rattling and overloading sounds at volume levels significantly below the maximum volume number available. That was very important to me, and all it took to pack it back up. Then I got the NAD Viso 1, which was instantly distinguished from the Bose product simply with how it felt in my hands. For the same price market, that noticeable difference should not exist. And then I turned it on and played some select tracks from the iPod and have never looked elsewhere. The unit has absolutely incredible, room filling bass, with crisp highs and beautiful mid-ranges. And it can handle the higher volume levels as compared to the seemingly feeble Bose unit. Whether compared in price, performance, or appearance, there truly is no comparison here. The NAD sound system is an excellent performer.
As with all speakers, placement is critical. We put the bass port against a grantite backsplash and under the secretarial station in the kitchen. When we stream paid Pandora via bluetooth the fidelity is simply amazing. This is the best part of this speaker, using the IPhone as your remote and shifting from Itunes to Pandora. The mids are clear and concise, the bass thumps and our kitchen is transformed. Also very nice is that with the handle its so easy to drag to the patio or bedroom although I have yet to avail myself of the video input. Crutchfield packed it well and shipped it free--calling to confirm order. I would recommend them and this awesome stereo wholeheartedly.
I've heard em all, and this is hands down the finest sounding iPod speaker dock on the market. Costly, but you get what you pay for. Bluetooth teathering is seamless.
Tremendo,me permite oir la radio directa de mi smartphone
Tremendous piece of equipment!
Pros: Me permite oir la radio directa de mi smartphone It lets me listen to the radio directly from my smartphone
Cons: No contras No consCrutchfield response on May 15, 2012 Translation provided by Crutchfield's Spanish Sales & Support team. Visit our new Spanish-language site at www.crutchfieldenespanol.com:
The pros: Nice , the sound is very detailed, clear and distortion free even at the maximum volume, you really have to hear it. The bluetooth is cool too, you can stream Pandora, I heart radio or Slacker radio from you iphone or blackberry.
The cons: It lacks deep bass, but I don't think any system this size will create good bass. The looks, its ok, but I wish the iphone dock was in a different location this would give it a better appearance.
In my opinion the great sound makes it worth the somewhat high price.
First and for most this is my first time ever writing a review on a product. Let me begin by saying Crutchfield is the Best company to buy your electronics from; they got the best sales representatives, tech support and customer service. I don't know any other store that can do things they can do for you; very friendly too. Now, this NAD Viso 1 will probably be the best iPod dock you'll ever use. I started with the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air, which is a great product but pound for pound this NAD is the winner. Not only the great Bass and clear sound that come out of it but this unit can be a home theatre, computer (laptop, desktop) speakers and more. Unfortunately with the Zeppelin Air, you can only play music from iTunes stored on your computer wirelessly; won't support any video sound when u for example want to play a youtube video. Bottom line, if you're looking for an iPod dock or a great music system, look no further, this is it. And this review is coming from a person who cares a lot about sound. Couldn't find any little problem with this one. Best by far!
Overview: The NAD VISO 1 is a digital music system for your Apple iPod or iPhone, & Bluetooth enabled device. The VISO 1 digital music system combines the engineering expertise of two iconic Hi-Fi companies - NAD Electronics & PSB Speakers. The NAD VISO 1 provides smooth, accurate, & clear sound with an airy, 3-dimensional soundstage.
NAD Direct Digital Amplifier: At the heart of the VISO 1 is NAD's proprietary Direct Digital amplifier technology. NAD's Direct Digital amplifier technology eliminates all analog circuitry & offers very high efficiency & low power consumption.
Bi-Amplification: Each loudspeaker in the NAD VISO 1 is directly coupled to its own amplifier channel (50W sub, 15W right speaker, 15W left speaker), eliminating power-robbing passive crossover components. Since the exact load condition for each amplifier channel is known, power output can be optimized to make the most efficient use of the overall power available. The system's total amplifier power output is 80 Watts (50 watts to sub & 15 watts to each speaker).
PSB Speakers: NAD teamed up with its award-winning sister company, PSB Speakers, to make the NAD VISO 1 the ultimate compact music system for your iPod/iPhone or Bluetooth enabled device; with a pair of advanced full-range drivers & a single high power-handling woofer.
Note: The system's total frequency response is 50Hz to 20,000 Hz or 33Hz to 28,000 Hz (-6dB).
Digital Soft Clipping Circuit: The NAD VISO 1 also employ a Digital Soft Clipping circuit to prevent harsh distortion & possible speaker damage when playing at loud volume levels.
Near Field: The NAD VISO 1 includes a special feature that subtly reduces the amount of high frequency power to optimize performance for "near field" listening. You may prefer this setting if you listen at a very close distance or have a very small room.
Bluetooth aptX: The NAD VISO 1 uses a new version of Bluetooth called aptX, which is a "Hi-Fi" version offering the same performance as a wired connection. The built-in Bluetooth aptX wireless high-fidelity reception allows many Bluetooth enabled device to seamlessly integrate with the NAD VISO 1. This allows wireless integration of your iPod touch, iPhone, & iPad; as well as Android & Windows-based smartphones or tablets.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the VISO 1.
iPod/iPhone Dock: The NAD VISO 1 features a 30-pin Apple connector which allows you to dock your iPod or iPhone for audio/video playback, remote control, & battery charging. The system's docking cradle can rotate 90°, allowing for 'portrait' or 'landscape' orientation of your iPod or iPhone. The NAD VISO 1 plays the music stored on your iPod or iPhone in its native digital form, completely bypassing the limiting audio circuits of the iPod/iPhone. As a result, your iPod/iPhone's audio is optimized by the NAD VISO 1's Direct Digital technology for pure sonic performance.
Component Video Output: The system's rear-panel Component Video Output sends iPod/iPhone video to your connected HDTV while playing the sound track. The Component Video Output supports 480p & 576p resolution.
Apple Device Compatibility Chart: The VISO 1 is compatible with the following iPods, iPhones, & iPads (as of 6/5/2013).
|Apple Device||Generation||Tested Version||Connection Type||Media Type||Control Type||Display Type||Charge|
|Bluetooth||Dock Connector||Audio||Video Output||Remote||iPod/iPhone||Song/Artist Text||Track #|
- *Requires Apple's Lightning to 30-pin cable (sold separately) in order to dock with this system. Does not work with Apple's Lightning to 30-pin adapter; will not fit in dock.
- Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.
Remote Control: The supplied IR remote control provides wireless operation of your docked iPod/iPhone or Bluetooth connected device. The remote offers basic playback controls; such as Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, & Skip Previous/Next. The remote also provides Source, Volume Up/Down, & Mute controls. The remote is powered by a single CR2025 3V lithium "coin-type" battery.

BEST SOUNDING SYSTEM ,IT HAS ITS OWN AMP.FOR THE MONEY BETTER THAN BOSE . [ GILBERTO Feb 28, 2015 ]
All you need to do is just plug it in and enjoy. This is the best sounding speaker I have heard, I've been looking for something to use with my iPhone and iPod that had room filling sound, the viso 1 is incredible!! Unbelievable sound, you will not be disappointed. [ TROY Feb 26, 2015 ]
Just plug and play. The unit has a built in amp. [ GILBERTO Feb 25, 2015 ]
It's self contained. You can hook and iPod or iPhone directly via the jack on the front, you can connect via Bluetooth, or you can hook other audio sources in via an optical cable. Be aware that if you're hooking up a newer iOS device you'll need an adapter as this version of the radio has the old style connector. It's worth the price difference to go this route vs the newer one with the Thunderbolt connection. [ JASON T Feb 25, 2015 ]
Hi David, Just plug in the one AC cord that comes with it. No other cords/wires necessary. It has a great sound. We really like ours. [ DEBBIE Feb 24, 2015 ]
Just plug it in. [ Allen Feb 24, 2015 ]
Just plug in and play/ Bluetooth works great [ STEVEN Feb 24, 2015 ]
Hi, Just plug it in and ready to go. [ Ronald Feb 24, 2015 ]
David, This unit is completely self-contained. The amplifier and speakers are built-in and all that is required is for you to plug it into an AC outlet. Of course, you will need an Apple iPad or iPhone that is an older model with the larger 32 pin connector and NOT the newer, smaller Lightning connector. For instance, Since I got my wife her new Apple iPhone 5S, we now use the older iPhone 4S to stream music when used with this NAD Viso model and it works perfectly. Needless say, that's why Crutchfield has such a great price for this particular unit. But again, when paired with the proper Apple devise, it's an excellent piece of goods. [ Stephen Feb 24, 2015 ]
Just plug in your iPod or connect with blue tooth, plug in AC and it works. 5 minutes top. [ Willliam Feb 24, 2015 ]
Yes. In fact, the unit comes with one of each type of power cord in the box (North America/110v, EU/220v). [ KRISTOPHER Oct 10, 2014 ]
I do not recall Luis. I returned the purchase because the blue tooth was cutting in and out and the remote was less than good. The sound was pretty amazing. [ JAMES R. Oct 09, 2014 ]
Yes. It's rated 100-240 v;50/60hz. A ts version will need an outlet adapter. [ MICHAEL J Oct 07, 2014 ]
I would ask an electrician to answer this question. I wouldn't want to give you a wrong answer. I use it on a standard 120 volt US household outlet. [ DEBBIE Oct 07, 2014 ]
Hi Luis, No, The one I have is the 120 volt version, there may be an adapter from manufacturer for this. [ Ronald Oct 07, 2014 ]
Yes. The unit, as I received it from Crutchfield, actually includes two detachable AC mains power cord - one for European version models (C version) and one for North American version models (AH version). On the rear of the unit, where you plug the AC mains plug in, it states specifically that it will operate on 120-240 volts and 50 & 60 Hz. [ Stephen Oct 07, 2014 ]
It does not look like we currently have a wall bracket for this model. I would recommend contacting NAD directly: http://nadelectronics.com/contact [ Jeff Jan 07, 2014 ] Staff
No, there is no BFO for SSB reception on this radio. AM mode only on the Shortwave bands. [ GARY Dec 27, 2013 ]
No, but you can hook up a cd player or dvd/blu ray player to the unit to play cd. The unit works with ipods, iphone, or any device that has bluetooth. [ GARY Dec 16, 2013 ]
This is not a CD player. It is designed for connecting to an iPod or iPhone. [ Jeff Dec 16, 2013 ] Staff
The adapter coverts the older ipods to the lightning connection on the iphones and newer ipods. No problem. BTW, the sound is superb and the blutetooth works great. [ Richard Dec 16, 2013 ]
It does not, you will need to buy a 30-pin lightning adapter, if it doesn't already have one. I bought the NAD Viso after contemplating for months on this and a few other systems. I received this and when I played it I was stunned. Sound is amazing, bass response is accurate and punchy. Very clear, detailed sound. This blows away the Denon Cacoon away, there is no comparison. [ TREVOR Dec 14, 2013 ]
Hey Greg, The lightning adapter will work with an iPhone 5 but the iPhone mount on the Viso 1 will not work well. It does not open far enough for the iPhone 5 + the adapter but I can still mount it at an angle. I have not heard the Denon Cacoon but I've had the Viso 1 for about a week now and researched it for quite a while ad overall it sounds very good. My only other experience with higher end systems for apple family is the B&W Zeppelin and to me they sound very much alike. Hope this helps. Daniel [ Daniel Dec 14, 2013 ]
I don't know what the "30 pin to lighting adapter" is but I will tell you I have had a NAD Home component sound system for years, and decided to try this Viso. What I did was get the Bose comparable and the Viso, and place them side by side at my home. Listened to them for two days, and sent the Bose back. No worries. Jerry [ RICHARD Dec 13, 2013 ]
