Great sound through innovation

NAD VISO HP50 headphones

Warm, open sound and premium construction are the hallmarks of the NAD VISO HP50 (shown in Black).

Every headphone has its own unique sound. But you rarely hear about headphones sounding like speakers. That's because a key ingredient is missing: the room. That was the driving force behind the development of the NAD VISO HP50 headphones. NAD and Paul Barton, founder of sister company PSB, worked together to come up with a pair of closed-back headphones that have a more open-air sound. The result? The HP50 have been universally raved about for sound that's natural, warm, and open, particularly for a closed-back headphone at this price.

Bringing back the sound of the room

The VISO HP50 headphones employ NAD's innovative RoomFeel™ technology. Its purpose is to simulate the sound of speakers in a room. After all, music is mixed and mastered in the studio using speakers. The sound of the room itself is a part of the listening experience as crafted by the artist and producer. RoomFeel is about delivering that experience as truthfully as possible. Through clever configuration of the drivers and acoustic chambers, the HP50 headphones are able to achieve this feat without the use of digital signal processing, for an organic sound that's inviting and smooth. Plus, you still get the benefit of noise isolation that's inherent to a closed-back, over-the-ear design.

Great looks, long-lasting comfort

The smart design of these headphones doesn't end with RoomFeel. Brushed metal and leather appointments give the VISO HP50 a sleek and elegant look. Soft earpads will keep you listening for long periods. Plus they're lightweight for commuting and travel.

Remote and mic for iPhone®

Two cables are included with the VISO HP50: one straight cable and one with a built-in remote and microphone. Use it with your Apple® device to control music playback and adjust the volume, or to make hands-free calls with your iPhone. The cable can plug into either earcup — a nice touch of flexibility for those times when you need it.

Praise for the NAD VISO HP50 from Sound & Vision

"This was an easy review to write; the NAD Viso HP50 sounds as smooth as silk, with excellent detail retrieval, a big soundstage, and bass with the perfect balance of speed and low-end oomph. ...the Viso HP50 demonstrates how good a $299 full-size headphone can be."

Outstanding Sound, Average Comfort and Build Quality

Outstanding and accurate sound, excellent in all aspects, with great accurate bass, sparkly but not overdone treble, and wonderful mid range. Comfort is average, they are very lightweight and have a strange headband that does not in any way follow the contours of ones head, resulting in them resting on a small spot on the top of ones head, which can get annoying after awhile. Ear cups are smallish and my average size ears barely fit. Build utility is questionable, mostly plastic with flimsy cords, we'll see how well they hold up. If not for the sound I probably would have sent them back, I would rather spend a little more money and gotten the build quality of the PSB 7's with the NAD sound quality. Oh, and they are noisy in that if you are laying down against a pillow or your head is touching a cushion these cans will squeak and groan when moved or touched, way more that your average phones, might be a trade off for sound quality, but it's another little annoyance that I'd pay a little more to not have. I think if NAD incorporated fixes for these issues they could get 5 bills for these, easy.

Pros: Sound quality

Cons: Comfort and build are average, at best.

NAD's VISO headphones sound great to me. Their "Room Feel" technology really opens up the sounstage image directly in front of you making you feel as though you're listening to live music. Very open and lively.

Pros: Open, live-sounding, comfortable, quality build

Cons: None

Perfect without the pressure point

Excellent headphone build-wise and sound-wise for the price (and perhaps even if price was higher). Love the bells and whistles such as option to insert cable on either side, flat cable, microphone, etc. Ear pads are top-notch. Only gripe I have is that due to the shape of the headband, after a few minutes feels like someone is pushing his finger into top of your head. Trying to overlook final point, but I was really hoping for high comfort.

Pros: Sound, build, look, features, etc.

Cons: Uncomfortable headband

I haven't been satisfied with the research of professional and consumer reviews since I was looking to really compare these to the PSB M4U1s...

After sending back the PSBs, I took a high chance because I already thought the PSBs were awesome. Still the curiosity of the NADs existed. So far without proper burn-in time, UNBELIEVABLE!! Highs: Similar to M4U1s but a touch less harsh on certain songs. Mids: Vocals and instruments are MORE pronounced Lows: Perfect and tighter compared to PSB M4U1.

Music I once considered getting rid of because I thought they were bad recordings are now back in my collection. With the M4U1s, I felt I wasn't achieving the sound I REALLY was yearning for, these headphones nailed it better!!!!! M4U1s version 2.0!

The Roomfeel is WAY MORE APPARENT!!!

I can go days in end without fatigue!

Overall, personal taste in consideration of course, these I am MUCH MORE SATISFIED with compared an already excellent pair of headphones!

I hope this helps you in our decision!

PS: my wife, "Whoa, I NEVER HEARD THAT BEFORE!!!" While listening to a song she is VERY FAMILIAR WITH. This is from a person who doesn't normally care for stuff like this!

Pros: Sound Quality: 5 Stars and superb, clean, and clear Build Quality: 5 Stars Better than I thought based on review on PSB M4U1s here on Crutchfield Comfort: 5 Stars WAY more light weight than PSB M4U1s Noise Reduction: 4 Stars Just because... Compared to a mainstream brand

Cons: Coolness Factor: 2 Stars for looking dorky at moments. Still, I like the looks personally! - 5 Stars for the short cable. Needs a cable extension.
