About the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1
Turn your desk into a musical oasis
Turn your desk into a musical oasis
Warm, rich guitar notes, a smooth, clear saxophone solo, and accurate vocals that place you in the middle of a concert hall. Bowers & Wilkins' MM-1 speakers take up very little room on your desktop but reproduce the music stored on your computer in lifelike detail. These speakers are a great choice for folks who enjoy high-fidelity lossless audio files.
Custom-tailored for computer use
These speakers connect to a USB port on your computer, bypassing its built-in sound card. That kind of direct digital output means there's less potential for noise and interference to degrade the sound quality. A built-in high-performance DAC (digital-to-analog converter) gives you far greater sonic fidelity than the DACs found most sound cards. A high-quality headphone output means you'll enjoy that sonic upgrade even when you're wearing a pair of headphones. Bower & Wilkins designed the MM-1s for "near-field" listening: the sweet spot (where the speakers sound their best) is just a few feet away, right where you'll sit at your computer.
Spectacular audio performance
Unlike many other desktop computer speakers, which rely on a single full-range driver to reproduce all the frequencies, each MM-1 features a carefully engineered 1" tweeter and a 3" woofer. The system has four separate amplifiers built in, one for each driver, for clarity and impact. Plus, digital signal processing keeps the bass sounding powerful and music sounding rich and detailed at any volume level.
From our hands-on review
"The separately powered speakers and built-in DAC helped each track live up to its full potential — whatever that was as determined by its bit rate. My lossless files sounded full and finely detailed. It was as if there was large sphere of sound encompassing the area around my laptop. My compressed MP3 files still had some detail, but tended to sound thinner and a little harsher — but much better than through the laptop's sound card."

MM-1 Powered Speakers: The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 powered speakers bring true hi-fi quality sound to your desktop or laptop computer, transforming your computer into a hi-fi stereo sound system. The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 powered speakers are ideal for enjoying music, video, and games from your computer.
Full-Range Sound: The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 is equipped with two drivers; one dedicated to bass and midrange frequencies, and another for the treble. Each speaker features a 3.0" woofer and 1.0" tweeter. The MM-1 is powered by an 18-watt x 4-channel integrated amplifier. This is how the MM-1 can reproduce sound with the accuracy of a true hi-fi speaker (38Hz to 22,000Hz).
Nautilus Tube-Loaded Tweeters: The MM-1's tweeters incorporate the tube-loaded design, Bowers & Wilkins first developed for their famous Nautilus speakers, which dampens resonance and produces purer high frequency sounds.
Near-Field Monitors: All hi-fi setups have a sweet spot, the area in the listening space where music sounds at its best. The MM-1 is designed primarily as a near-field monitor, ideal for listening to music while at your computer. The Bower's & Wilkins MM-1 speakers have been electronically adjusted to provide its best sound just a few feet away from your computer screen, so you have the best seat in the house.
Digital Signal Processing: Thanks to built-in Digital Signal Processing, the MM-1 can produce big sound from a small speaker. By adjusting the sound balance depending on the signal, DSP keeps bass effects powerful and music sounding rich and detailed; no matter how loud you play it.
Dynamic EQ: The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 speakers provide powerful bass thanks to its Dynamic EQ technology which maximizes bass output.
USB Audio Streaming: Computer speakers normally have to rely on the varying quality of the computer's analogue output signal. The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 is different. It streams audio directly from your computer via USB (2.0) and converts the signal from digital to analogue internally. So you will always get the best possible audio quality, independent of the computer output.
PC and Mac Compatible: The Bowers & Wilkins powered speakers perform equally well with either a Mac or Microsoft computer, through its USB 2.0 input. The MM-1 features a mini-USB type-B port, and comes with a mini-USB type-B to USB type-A cable to connect to your computer.
Auxiliary Input: The MM-1 speakers also features an 3.5mm auxiliary input, and comes with a stereo minijack cable to connect your digital music player or CD player.
Remote Control: Thanks to the MM-1's ergonomic, pebble-shaped IR remote, you will have complete control over your speakers, as well as iTunes or Windows Media Player, from anywhere in the room. The remote operates off of a single CR2032 3V lithium battery (included).
High-Quality Headphone Output: The MM-1 makes private listening also possible, thanks to its high-quality headphone output (3.5mm). When you plug your headphones directly into the speakers, the audio from your computer is enhanced by high quality DACs used in the MM-1, producing a sound that is a noticeable improvement over the standard PC or Mac headphone output.

These speakers are just the best real computer speakers out. The sound is awesome, the seperation is awesome and on some songs it sounds like the vocals are coming from a third speaker. If you have the money GET THEM.
