Here's a chance to get a great deal on an amazing Bowers & Wilkins computer speaker system. These factory-refurbished MM-1 speakers have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they meet Bowers & Wilkins' strict quality standards for both sonic performance and mechanical integrity. The unit is repacked in special packaging, complete with all documentation. Best of all, they come with a full 2-year factory warranty, so you can buy them with confidence.
Warm, rich guitar notes, a smooth, clear saxophone solo, and accurate vocals that place you in the middle of a concert hall. Bowers & Wilkins' MM-1 speakers take up very little room on your desktop but reproduce the music stored on your computer in lifelike detail. These speakers are a great choice for folks who enjoy high-fidelity lossless or high-bitrate audio files.
These speakers connect to a USB port on your computer, bypassing its built-in sound card. That kind of direct digital output means there's less potential for noise and interference to degrade the sound quality. A built-in high-performance DAC (digital-to-analog converter) gives you far greater sonic fidelity than the DACs found most sound cards. A high-quality headphone output means you'll enjoy that sonic upgrade even when you're wearing a pair of headphones. Bower & Wilkins designed the MM-1s for "near-field" listening: the sweet spot (where the speakers sound their best) is just a few feet away, right where you'll sit at your computer.
Unlike many other desktop computer speakers, which rely on a single full-range driver to reproduce all the frequencies, each MM-1 features a carefully engineered 1" tweeter and a 3" woofer. The system has four separate amplifiers built in, one for each driver, for clarity and impact. Plus, digital signal processing keeps the bass sounding powerful and music sounding rich and detailed at any volume level.
From the review Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 computer speakers -- A joy for the senses
"The separately powered speakers and built-in DAC helped each track live up to its full potential — whatever that was as determined by its bit rate. My lossless files sounded full and finely detailed. It was as if there was large sphere of sound encompassing the area around my laptop. My compressed MP3 files still had some detail, but tended to sound thinner and a little harsher — but much better than through the laptop's sound card."

This is an awesome product but price is pretty high so 4 star
Great service. Great sound
Pros: Sound very good for classical music
Cons: B & W could enclose instructions how to set up using Audio Midi Setup. I had to call tech Support @ your Company who walked me through the process - great service from him!
I spend so much time at my computer, I hardly ever listen to my "big rig" any longer. And you know what? The music sounds so much clearer to me as I listen to it over my computer using the Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) MM-1 than it does using the typical audiophile eight-feet-across-the-room setup. I enjoy listening to CDs I hadn't played in some time because I didn't like the sound. Whether it's distance or the absence of jitter that makes the difference, I couldn't say, but the joy of listening to music through the MM-1s is addictive. Plus they're cool-looking. B&W has made a commitment to speakers that look as good as they sound over the last decade.
Pros: Great sound. Great looks.
These are the best sounding computer speakers have had heard, especially when listening in the B&W sweet spot. They are computer speakers and not home theater speaker so understand that the sound is not earth shattering.
Pros: The quality of the sound is excellent with the internal DAC. Much better than the sound card in my Vaio laptop. There is a sweet spot where the sound field is enhanced and this is a pleasure to use.
Speakers works well.. I have no complaints at all
Excellent computer speakers with great range. I have a decent ear and have actually been impressed with the bass range of these speakers. It was good to buy them at 20% off list price because of being refurbished. There are no indications of any wear on the speakers or the supporting accessories. Only draw back is that the connecting speaker cord between the two speakers could be a bit longer. Free music downloads from the Society of Sound homepage was a great added bonus. My listening tastes range from Opera to Folk. In each category, the speakers have performed very well.
Pros: -Very good quality build -Nice form factor -Excellent sound for the size of the speakers
Cons: -Speaker connector cord could be longer by about 2 ft. to serve a larger desk arrangement
These little speakers have a delightful sound. Very musical. Even without a sub, the bass is tight, defined, and very clean. They are a great addition to my collection of audio gear.
Pros: Simple setup. Very good sound.
Cons: There is no selector for USB/audio in. Both are active all the time. This means you can be playing two sources simultaneously.
Well made, great looks and most important, absolutely brilliant sound. I have a Zeppelin as well and I think these sound even better. I also own KEF and Mission speakers and these small desktop marvels hold their own against much larger speakers. My desk is in a medium bedroom sized room and the MM-1's fill the room with well detailed, crystal clear music. I did think twice about the cost, and opted for the refurbished speakers, and they arrived looking as good as any of the new ones would.
I can see me enjoying these for years to come.
Pros: Great stylish looks, small desktop size, easy setup, wonderful build quality, brilliant sound
The speakers look and work as well as I'd hoped. Round, luscious sound, lots of wattage esp compared to my monitor's audio output. Love it!
Pros: sound quality, smart looking design
Cons: length of cord connecting the two speakers, wishing it were 5 feet and not 3 feet long
You get what you pay for.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: A little pricey
Cons:Crutchfield response on October 6, 2014 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Nothing comes close to these speakers! Simply the best!
Pros: Perfect sound!
Great clarity and depth of sound, including bass. Perfect for classical. Connections and controls are simple. A keeper through my next couple of Mac upgrades. Refurbished had no discernable difference from absolutely new.
Pros: Sound, appearance, design.
Cons: Remember to turn the unit off: heat collects in the right speaker after several hours.
I've had various speakers prior to the MM-1's. For example, the MM-1 delivers audio quality that's so exquisite, so pristine that it makes the mighty AudioEngine A-5's sound almost muddy in comparison. I was particularly impressed with the Bass response, even though there is no subwoofer! Sure, these may not rattle your floor joists, but the lows are absolutely clean, luscious and very well rounded and delivered. You have an extremely well rounded sound system with scintillating highs and midrange frequencies coupled with clear, crisp bass... not just bass for loudness sake. If you ever thought sheer power and woofers translates into great sound, you should give the MM-1's a listen. You'll have no trouble filling your home office or bedroom with remarkable sound quality, as opposed to loud, muddled, thumpy droning bass that seems to prevail in the audio industry today.
Pros: Clear, Concise, Authoritative sound deliver in a professional format
Cons: One always can argue price: But.... you get what you pay for in this world and these MM-1's are worth the investment.
These were my 3rd Bowers & Wilkins purchase, after the Zeppelin Air with 30-pin, not lightning connector) and the P7 headphones. I opted for the refurbished model because I was assured B&W issues the same 2-year warranty, and I feel very comfortable buying any product from Crutchfield.
When I first set them up, I ran into a snag - the header on the USB cable that connects from Speaker A -> PC was damaged, like someone stepped on it. A call to Crutchfield and a replacement was on the way. It arrived much sooner than expected (I had been told a week before shipping, which wasn't good news to hear but a call on Friday ended with the cable coming on Tuesday).
Once I had finally connected the speakers to the PC, I could enjoy using them. I rip all my CDs to ALAC for iTunes and despite their somewhat diminutive size the MM-1s can generate some appreciable "oomph". I listen to everything from classical to jazz, Deadmau5 to the Deftones, and I wasn't disappointed in any situation. The Air is my go-to for iTunes listening but I did want to test how the MM-1s handled music. I was worried how "Audiophile" computer speakers would handle gaming, but I've run through my Steam list, going from RPG to RTS and FPS and the sound quality is great, and despite being a 2.0 setup positional accuracy is pretty good. Overall. I would say 4 - 4.5 stars.
Pros: Size for quality of sound. Aesthetics - fits right in with my taste as well as sharing my desk with the ZepAir
Cons: I wish the cable connecting the slave -> master speakers was a bit longer. Speakers feel 'quality' but I wouldn't mind a little more heft to them. I'm happy I went refurb as the 20% discounted price-point is easier to justify.

MM-1 Powered Speakers: The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 powered speakers bring true hi-fi quality sound to your desktop or laptop computer, transforming your computer into a hi-fi stereo sound system. The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 powered speakers are ideal for enjoying music, video, and games from your computer.
Full-Range Sound: The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 is equipped with two drivers; one dedicated to bass and midrange frequencies, and another for the treble. Each speaker features a 3.0" woofer and 1.0" tweeter. The MM-1 is powered by an 18-watt x 4-channel integrated amplifier. This is how the MM-1 can reproduce sound with the accuracy of a true hi-fi speaker (38Hz to 22,000Hz).
Nautilus Tube-Loaded Tweeters: The MM-1's tweeters incorporate the tube-loaded design, Bowers & Wilkins first developed for their famous Nautilus speakers, which dampens resonance and produces purer high frequency sounds.
Near-Field Monitors: All hi-fi setups have a sweet spot, the area in the listening space where music sounds at its best. The MM-1 is designed primarily as a near-field monitor, ideal for listening to music while at your computer. The Bower's & Wilkins MM-1 speakers have been electronically adjusted to provide its best sound just a few feet away from your computer screen, so you have the best seat in the house.
Digital Signal Processing: Thanks to built-in Digital Signal Processing, the MM-1 can produce big sound from a small speaker. By adjusting the sound balance depending on the signal, DSP keeps bass effects powerful and music sounding rich and detailed; no matter how loud you play it.
Dynamic EQ: The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 speakers provide powerful bass thanks to its Dynamic EQ technology which maximizes bass output.
USB Audio Streaming: Computer speakers normally have to rely on the varying quality of the computer's analogue output signal. The Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 is different. It streams audio directly from your computer via USB (2.0) and converts the signal from digital to analogue internally. So you will always get the best possible audio quality, independent of the computer output.
PC and Mac Compatible: The Bowers & Wilkins powered speakers perform equally well with either a Mac or Microsoft computer, through its USB 2.0 input. The MM-1 features a mini-USB type-B port, and comes with a mini-USB type-B to USB type-A cable to connect to your computer.
Auxiliary Input: The MM-1 speakers also features an 3.5mm auxiliary input, and comes with a stereo minijack cable to connect your digital music player or CD player.
Remote Control: Thanks to the MM-1's ergonomic, pebble-shaped IR remote, you will have complete control over your speakers, as well as iTunes or Windows Media Player, from anywhere in the room. The remote operates off of a single CR2032 3V lithium battery (included).
High-Quality Headphone Output: The MM-1 makes private listening also possible, thanks to its high-quality headphone output (3.5mm). When you plug your headphones directly into the speakers, the audio from your computer is enhanced by high quality DACs used in the MM-1, producing a sound that is a noticeable improvement over the standard PC or Mac headphone output.
