More details on the SoundCast™ iCast Transmitter
Product Research
Features
FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) Technology: The SoundCast iCast System is an interference free, wireless 2.4 GHz system. The SoundCast system uses frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology in which the SoundCast iCast transmitter constantly and automatically searches for open channels in the 2.4GHz band and jumps to them to avoid interference with other products (such as cordless telephones, radio controlled toys, cell phones, microwave ovens, remotes, and wireless routers), while telling the SoundCast iCast receiver which frequency to use, and ultimately sending your music wirelessly to your connected home stereo or powered speakers.
iCast Transmitter: The iCast Transmitter features an integrated iPod dock and a 3.5mm jack, which can be used as either an auxiliary input or headphone output. The iCast Transmitter allows you to wirelessly transmit audio from your docked iPod or connected audio device to a SoundCast iCast Receiver (sold separately).
Note: The iCast Transmitter is also compatible with the SoundCast OutCast, OutCast Junior, and SpeakerCast.
Wireless Range: The SoundCast iCast system has a wireless range of 150' from the iCast Transmitter to the iCast Receiver. Outdoors, the wireless signal may carry up to 350' depending on conditions.
Note: The iCast system is not weather-resistant and not designed to be placed outdoors.
iPod/iPhone Dock: The iCast Transmitter features a top-mounted 30-pin iPod/iPhone dock for wireless audio streaming to your iCast Receiver. The iCast Transmitter will also charge your iPod or iPhone while docked. Once linked to your iCast Receiver, the receiver will control basic controls of your iPod/iPhone (it does not offer iPod/iPhone text display).
Auxiliary Input: There is a 3.5mm jack on the rear-panel of the transmitter which can be used as an auxiliary input for connecting your computer other audio device.
Headphone Output: If you wish, you can connect the iCast Transmitter to a set of headphones for private listening, using the 3.5mm jack on the rear-panel of the unit.
Note: The volume control on the iPod does not function while in the dock, so you can only adjust the volume if the headphones speakers permit it.
Multi-Room Compatible: The iCast Transmitter can operate up to two iCast receivers. This means you can transmit audio to two different locations in your home (same source will be heard in each room). It is also possible to operate three entirely different iCast systems in the same house.
Note: You will need to make sure the channel selector switch (1-3) on the back of the iCast Transmitter and the iCast receiver are set to the same frequency within the same system.
RF Power Saving Mode: Soundcast's iCast Transmitter has a Power Saving Mode. The iCast transmitter will enter into a state where the RF power used by the iCast transmitter will be minimized whenever it does not detect an RF link with the iCast receiver. This RF power saving mode will be engaged if a SoundCast receiver it not in range or powered on within 30 seconds.
Power Supply: The iCast transmitter operate off of standard household AC current using the supplied AC power adapter.
