Thrilling home theater on a budget

Anchor the center of your home theater with the Alpha C1 center channel and reap the sonic rewards. Its excellent midrange and low frequency response allows it to easily handle the complex on-screen action and dialogue in all your movies, TV shows, and video games. You'll be amazed that a speaker of this size — and price point — can deliver such a wide soundstage filled with crisp, accurate detail. So sit back, relax, and let PSB show you what a home theater on a budget can really do.

Excellence by design

PSB's engineers began by designing each Alpha speaker from scratch to ensure that they'll deliver the same level of performance typically found on speakers twice their price. The Alpha C1 uses a 3/4" aluminum dome tweeter to deliver crisp, sparkling highs. The dual 5-1/4" woofers are made of metalized polypropylene, making them strong but lightweight. It means you'll hear excellent midrange detail and distinct bass without a trace of the listening fatigue that can happen with lesser speakers. The two woofers flank the tweeter in an array that increases the C1's on- and off-axis response, so everyone on your couch can enjoy the same, great PSB sound.

Build a complete Alpha system

Create a complete, budget-friendly Alpha home theater system using the C1 center channel and a combination of Alpha T1s floor-standing speakers in the front of your room and either the B1 bookshelf speakers or LR1 satellite speakers in the back of your room. And don't forget to add a PSB powered subwoofer (or two) for room-thumping bass.

Your home theater's most important speaker

The center channel speaker is the workhorse in a home theater system. It has to reproduce clear dialogue and special effects that keep your eyes and ears glued to the movie action. A high-quality center speaker is a great investment for any surround sound setup. Try to choose one that's as closely matched as possible to your front right and left speakers, so that as sound moves across the front stage, it stays seamlessly realistic.

Alpha C1 center channel

Written by: Josh from Alabama on December 24, 2014

Upgraded from the bose vcs10. The C1 is in a different league. I've owned many different center speakers like bose, klipsch, polk, etc. All are good and have different characteristics. The Alpha is one of my favorites. Sound is smooth and clear. Good off axis performance. Blends well with my klipsch sb2 bookshelf speakers. SO FAR it is handling THX levels beautifully. I am driving the speaker with an onkyo txnr818. Very happy I chose the alpha. I will consider psb on future speaker purchases.

Pros: Clear, good off axis performance, solid build

Cons: Rear port may not work well for wall mounting

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I found this center on sale, thinking it was a decent replacement for my old Jamo. First, it's very heavy and that's great because my LED TV sits on top (not very heavy). The finish was excellent, and the metal mesh cover is quite excellent since there is no reason to take it off. The sound projects very well, and much better than the Jamo. I think I'll use this one for a long time.

Pros: Built like a tank Twin 5.25" woofers and excellent metal tweeter Beautiful finish

Cons: It might be heavier than some people would want.

PSB Alpha C1

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well I have had this center for a few weeks now. I went back and forth over these and the PSB Image C4. I chose alpha's because they could handle a little more power. I'm very happy with this speaker. I have them matched with the PSB Image T5 for main and Mirage Omni 50's for my rears and Sony STR DN840 as my AV Receiver. I'm so happy with my set up and the C4 pushed to the top!

Pros: Sounds as good as it looks

Cons: nothing

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

PSB consistantly out does itself. I have now used the C1 for my center and front speaks and could not ask for anything more out of them! The clarity and sound is great! I have them paired with a Sony ES3400 which gives them all the power they want. I am still in the break in period but each time I turn them on I am impressed. The only thing I would recommend to anyone is pair them with a good sub to round out the round field, I currently have them with a Sunfire 10in dual firing!!

Budget Center Channel

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This center channel from PSB matches very well sonically to the PSB Alpha B1. I like the metal mesh grill because it protects the woofers. To me there is no better speaker in this price range than the PSBs for Home Theater. Blows away any "Theater in a Box" that I have heard. One caveat about the center channel is the cabinet is deeper than I expected. I am matching the the PSBs with the Denon AVR receiver and a Velodyne sub. The room is medium size and they are adequate. If you are looking to setup in the "man cave" I would recommend full rannge speaker for the fronts.

Pros: Sonically outstanding. Matches well with the PSB Alpha B1. I purchased all three and would highly recommend.

Cons: You'll need a center channel mount for your flat screen since the cabinet is deep.
