Great home theater sound, outstanding value

The Alpha T1s may be PSB's entry-level floor-standing speakers, but you'll hear more than just "entry-level" sound. Like every PSB speaker, they're designed to ensure you experience all the thrilling special effects and emotionally engaging sounds of your movies and music. You'll be amazed by their clear, focused sound, which boasts brilliant highs and mids, as well as pronounced bass. So sit back, relax, and discover what home theater is all about.

Excellence by design

PSB's engineers began by designing each Alpha speaker from scratch to ensure that they'll deliver the same level of performance typically found on speakers twice their price. The Alpha T1s use a 3/4" aluminum dome tweeter to deliver crisp, sparkling highs. The dual 5-1/4" woofers are made of metalized polypropylene, making them strong but lightweight. It means you'll hear excellent midrange detail and distinct bass without a trace of the listening fatigue that can happen with lesser speakers. The two woofers flank the tweeter in an array that increases the T1s' on- and off-axis response, so everyone on your couch can enjoy the same, great PSB sound.

Build a complete Alpha system

Create a complete, budget-friendly Alpha home theater system using a combination of Alpha T1s in the front of your room, the C1 center channel, and either the B1 bookshelf speakers or LR1 satellite speakers in the back of your room. And don't forget to add a PSB powered subwoofer (or two) for room-thumping bass.

Driver Technology

D'Appolito Array: The PSB Alpha Series T1 floor-standing speakers utilize a D'Appolito array design with dual 5.25" woofers paired with a 0.75" ferrofluid-cooled tweeter for increased on- and off-axis response while yielding wide dispersion.

Dual 5.25" Woofer: Each PSB Alpha Series T1 loudspeaker employs dual 5.25" injection molded metalized polypropylene woofers with rubber surrounds.

0.75" Tweeter: Each Alpha Series T1 tower speaker is equipped with a 0.75" aluminum dome, ferrofluid-cooled tweeter.

Waveguide: The T1's tweeters utilize an acoustical waveguide to deliver, more even high frequency response, no matter what part of the room you're in.

Crossover Network: The tweeter and woofers are crossed over at 3,300 Hz.

Magnetically Shielded: The T1 is magnetically shielded for safe placement adjacent to your television.

Enclosure Design

Wood Grain Vinyl Cabinet: The PSB Alpha Series T1 features a black wood grain vinyl cabinet that matches almost any decor.

Bass Reflex Design: The PSB T1 tower loudspeakers utilize a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response.

Aluminum Grille: The speakers come with removable aluminum (metal-mesh) black grilles.

Dual 5-way Binding Posts: The dual binding post input terminals are located on the lower rear of the speaker cabinet. The two sets of binding posts are shorted together by a gold-plated jumper. With the jumper removed the PSB T1 tower speaker can be bi-wired or bi-amplified. The dual 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 12-gauge), pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.

Color-Coded: The speaker's binding posts are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.

update on my previous review "good speakers"

Written By VicG, Jupiter Florida on Friday, January 30, 2015

Update to my previous 4-star review "good speakers". Have played these now with a wider range of music and agree with others that it takes a while to break in. Sound is even better and bass better. Have repositioned closer to wall and now have listened to bass-heavy music like modern R&B/HipHop and have to say the bass is very good, definitely no subwoofer needed. I use these for audio, so if you want butt-vibrating bass for video, games, or very loud bassy music, you might want a sub, but totally unnecessary for normal listening and I like bass. Had to turn the bass down on the bass-heavy music. Overall sound is awesome, very clear, great presence. Very satisfied. Again, build quality appears excellent and you won't have problems with the cat scratching the cover on this one! The covers are metal. Finish on tower seems tough. Great product and free shipping was wonderful.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good speakers. I have not compared to other similarly-priced or touted speakers, so I can't comment, but they are way better than the Polk bookshelf speakers that I had. Price was good, delivery free (great because these are about 40 lb each). Build quality seems excellent and they should hold up very well over time. Very open, spacious sound. Bass OK. Highs very good. Good "soundstage" as people call it.

Pros: Sound, build quality, price.

Cons: Relatively heavy. Somewhat wish that I'd bought equivalent PSB bookshelf speakers, because these are pretty much like a bookshelf speaker on top of a heavy stand to make an integrated tower... nice, but requires floor space that I don't have much of.

PSB Alpha T1 are awesome.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At $400 I stole these speakers from Crutchfield. In 2009 you could find them for $999 then years later being mass produced they dropped to $699 and now the Alpha T1 have been discontinued for a more expensive entry level tower speaker which is good for me and hence the $400 price tag. Get these speakers if this is your price range because at this price you will not do better. Set them a foot and a half from the wall to get the best results. They deliver superb definition, with brilliant highs and pronounced bass and enhanced dynamics in a two-way design. Imaging and clarity are outstanding. Bass is beautiful and tight. It`s like you`re at the concert. I have mine hooked to a Yamaha Stereo 200 Watt Amp(100 x 2). The Absolute Sound magazine honored the PSB Imagine T with a "Product of the Year Award" as the Entry-Level Loudspeaker of the Year category in its January 2009 issue. "Tonally neutral and dynamically supercharged, the Imagine T's balance of audio virtues is classic PSB." Stereophile magazine honored the PSB by including it in its "Recommended Components" list for 2013. "Superb measured performance. I can think of no other speaker in the $2000/pair price range that I'd rate higher," reported the magazine. "The PSB Imagine T is a wonderful loudspeaker. Set a pair of them up right, feed them some good recordings, and they'll deliver a clarity and a balance worthy of any music."

Pros: Awesome! Imaging and clarity are outstanding. Bass is beautiful and tight. It`s like you`re at the concert.

Cons: Takes some play time to break them in.

for there size and price they sound pretty good..

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am using them in a 2 channel system primarily for music, with some movies/TV. Onkyo TX-8050 receiver (as pre-amp only), NAD 320BEE (as power-amp only), Onkyo 7030 CD player (RCA analog audio to receiver), Sony Blu-ray player (digital coax audio to receiver), and comcast DVR (RCA analog audio to receiver). Everyone knows these speakers have sparkling highs and an excellent midrange, but I have been very impressed with their bass response and have felt no need for a sub. ( Hard core movie buffs or gamers may want a sub.) We have listened to everything from Beethoven to Etta James; from The Allman Brothers to Sinatra, and the sound is open, natural, and amazingly detailed. Listening to Chris Botti's very funky "Regroovable" from the CD Midnight Without You, his trumpet sounds like it is right there in the room with you. Of course the Cruthfield buying experience was flawless with super fast shipping.

Pros: Amazing sound quality. You can buy better speakers but you would have to spend a whole lot more $.

Cons: None for music, but some people may want a sub for movies.
