All-weather resilience

PSB Canada knows as much about harsh weather as they do about high fidelity. The sturdy interior of the CS1000 cabinet features extensive bracing to put a damper on vibration. All materials are tough enough to withstand temperature and moisture extremes. Other protective measures include their UV resistant enclosure, rust-proof speaker terminals and rubber seals and gaskets. These speakers will provide years of music enjoyment whether you're out listening on your urban terrace, on the boat dock or just cooling off in your toddler's pool.

Features

Weatherproof Enclosure : The PSB CS1000 features a rugged, weatherproof design to bring high-end audio performance to any outdoor environment or commercial installation. The CS1000's durable build features a thick-walled UV-resistant polypropylene cabinet, an aluminum grille, and rustproof terminals with a rubber cover for protection from the elements. The speaker also comes with a removable aluminum (metal-mesh) grille.

  • Ported: The CS1000 utilizes a bass reflex cabinet with a front firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. A rubber phase plug is also provided for tighter, accurate bass reproduction.
  • Non-Resonant: The CS1000's cabinet utilizes extensive internal enclosure ribbing for extra stiffness to prevent resonance.

Note: The PSB CS1000 outdoor speaker is available in a black or white finish. The enclosure and grille are both paintable.

Two-Way Driver Design: The all-weather, outdoor PSB CS1000 loudspeaker is specially designed to bring PSB's renowned sonic performance to wide-open indoor or outdoor spaces. The CS1000 outdoor speaker's two-way system includes a 6.5"woofer with a clay/ceramic injection-filled polypropylene cone and rubber surround that complements a 1" titanium dome tweeter to deliver full-range music reproduction. The tweeter utilizes an acoustical waveguide to deliver, more even high frequency response. The tweeter and woofer are crossed over at 2,200 Hz.

  • 1" Tweeter: The CS1000 feature a single 1" titanium dome tweeter with a ferrofluid neodymium magnet.
  • 6.5" Woofer: The CS1000 features a 6.5" clay/ceramic filled injection-molded polypropylene woofer with a rubber surround.

Gold-Plated Binding Posts: The gold-plated  binding posts will accept bare wire (16-12-gauge), pin connectors, spade connectors, and banana plugs (single only). The speaker terminals are spaced to far apart to use dual banana plugs. The speaker's binding posts are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative. The CS1000 includes a rubber terminal protective cover to protect the speaker's gold-plated speaker terminals from the harsh elements of the outdoors.

Mounting Options: The PSB CS1000 is the ideal speaker for a range of residential and commercial environments, including decks and patios, retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and fitness centers. PSB engineers designed a fully adjustable, dual-rotational bracket system to allow for multiple mounting options, even in difficult places. Thanks to this highly flexible bracket, the CS1000 can be mounted vertically or horizontally and rotated up to 90 degrees on one axis and 170 degrees on the other axis.

Q
How do these compare with the Def Tech 6500s?

Before I made my purchase decision for new speakers I was lucky enough to do a head to head live test demo of: Def Tech 6500, PSB CS1000 & Boston Acostcis Voyager 70. All the speakers we tested & mounted in my open patio area which is about 500 sq. feet. Both Speakers were wall mounted 15 ft apart & just below the eve of the roof. The technical spec's of these speakers were about the same but not identical. Cost is a little less expensive than the CS1000 & BA Voyager 70 speakers. Def. Tech 6500 sound is solid but the base generates a very boomy sound which can become a distraction which may result in lose of music detail. However some people enjoy the boomy sound. Also, noticed the build quality of the speaker was not the same quality as the CS 1000 & BA 70. ( I was upgrading my BA 50's & 60s which I've had for over 12 years! Yes they show their age but they still work) The CS 1000 is by far a superior speaker in every way you can imagine. The sound & build quality will impress you. The speaker does require a little more power to operate but maybe worth it to you. The best speakers for the money IMO if you can find them on-sale are the BA 70 speakers. Build Quality & sound are both rock solid and will leave you impressed. Good Luck! George

Q
How will it sound with the port plugged?
jonah  Aug 10, 2017

A
I have one plugged that's a bit more exposed to weather, and one unplugged that's more protected. You get a bit more boom in the bass feel unplugged, but the difference is nominal in my opinion. I think these are great speakers.

A
The low end is not as defined or strong. You would definitely notice it if you compare before and after. Don't think it would make you think "These are awful" every time you listen to music. Also, not sure how important the plug is if the speakers are sheltered and angled down somewhat. I think the issue the plugs solve is wind-driven rain getting past the screens and into those cavities, not just moisture and humidity.

Is it not recommended to run 4 of these in parallel to the same amp? I noticed that the minimum impedance is 6 ohms in the detailed spec sheet pdf.

I have a pair with 3 other pairs of speakers all in one amp 100W and haven't had a problem - these are fantastic outdoor speakers

How is the grill removed?

A
There is a dimple at the bottom of the speaker that provides a leverage point to pull the cover. Works great to help clean the speaker and grill. Good luck. Great speakers.
brian  Aug 26, 2020
A
It came with a little hook/tool that you can hook the grille and pull it off. A paper clip would work too. Be careful, I bent mine.
david  Aug 25, 2020
A
It comes with a little pick to pull it out. There is a notch in the frame where you are supposed to use it. The directions are in the quick start guide.

What material is the mounting bracket made of? Want to install the system near the beach with high degree of corrosion.

The brace is painted metal, the wall plate is plastic. Had a pair for a few years now and they still look fine. Not near salt water though.
leiv erik  Jun 29, 2020
A
I can't say for sure but I believe it is a powder coated aluminum. The brackets are lightweight and easy to work with. This is my second pair of PSB outdoor speakers that I personally installed, the first set was set outside for over 5+ years without a single shred of finish degradation. I highly recommend the speakers for sound and reliability.
brian  Jun 26, 2020

I have theses speakers in white. I haven't scraped the paint off to see if they are aluminum brackets but they seem more substantial in weight so I'm guessing they are metal brackets because the speakers are heavy. I have them on my back patio and they see a lot of moisture. They have been out there for over a year and no signs of rust on the brackets. I do live in NC and not Florida so salt may be an issue over a long period of time on any painted surface.
christopher  Jun 26, 2020
A
It's a powder coated metal. Can't tell if aluminum or pressed steel.
andrew  Jun 26, 2020
A
The "square" piece that actually mounts to a surface is made of dense plastic. The "loop" that the speaker mounts to is a metal alloy (don't know any specifics about what kind of metal).

Q
I have a 20' x 45' outdoor pool area. Will one pair of these speakers provide enough sound or do I need more than one pair? Thanks!
justin  Mar 14, 2016

A
One pair will be enough unless you have more than 20 people in your pool at one time. I have one pair of speakers powered by an amp that is only 45w x 2, and they fill my back yard. Aprox 40' x 100'. They are great sounding outdoor full range speakers!
jason  Mar 15, 2016

We used a pair in a space that is bigger than this - and it's pretty good. Seems, the base becomes lost the larger the area. These replaced a set of Bose outdoor speakers and they're definitely an improvement. There is only so much you can do without infuriating the neighbors! Waiting for more wireless options.
jon  Mar 15, 2016
A
You shouldn't but it really depends on what you are driving them with and location. I am using a Niles 1230 with the speakers mounted against my house and they sound amazing. If I crank them everyone on my block can hear them.
jeffrey  Mar 15, 2016
A
Absolutely. One pair is all you will need. Make sure you have a good amp - I recommend NAD.
dale  Mar 15, 2016
A
Those speakers will be fine as long as you mount them 8-10' up on the house and point them both inward 40 degrees or so.
christopher  Mar 15, 2016
A
You will hear the sound across the length of the pool, but the sound will obviously be better at one end than the other. With 2 pairs it will be better and when you are in the middle of the pool you will enjoy music from both sides -similar to a concert.
peter  Mar 15, 2016
A
It depends on how high you play the music.. If your cranking heavy metal or Rap you might want 4. Or if you have big crowd, I have 6 but they are spread out over big area and pool. The sound quality is very good though
alfred  Mar 15, 2016
A
These speakers sound good half a block away from the deck I have them mounted on! One pair should be more than enough.

These should work fine with the EOS. You will connect from the speaker output on the EOS to the speaker inputs on these.

Q
I work at an exclusive Country Club. We need to replace our outdoor speakers which are connected to our house sound system. Our porch is 70 feet long. Would two of these be sufficient? Our current system for the Club is 5 zones, each powered by QSC ISA300Ti amplifiers. Also, we have live music outside once a week. We would like to be able to link into their sound system so that the music could be playing inside the club. How can we do this?
