Acclaimed PSB sound goes undercover
PSB speakers have made real fans among those of us who've heard them. So we couldn't be happier to present the CW26 for the devotee who appreciates great sound but needs a speaker that can blend in with its surroundings. With 125 watts of power handling, a wide-range 6-1/2" woofer, and a 1" pivoting tweeter, the in-wall CW26 stands its ground and earns a level of respect that won't stay hidden for long beneath its dècor-friendly grilles. And a moisture-resistant design lets you use these speakers in damp areas like your laundry room or bath, as well as outdoors under eaves.

Great speakers play well together
The CW26 is well suited for stereo music, or for use as main left and right speakers in a home theater system. But if you're putting together a system with PSB towers or bookshelf models, the CW26 makes an excellent choice for your surround channels. Plus on-board controls let you tailor the tweeter and mid-range to your preferences. Anyway you set it up, get your ears ready for a delightful experience.

An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the CW26 in a home with new construction.

Nice speakers for a nice price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm a fan of PSB's sound, owning a pair of Synchrony Ones (recently discontinued) as well as in-ceiling speakers in 3 rooms. Looks like these are being discontinued, and currently on fire sale. So happy I bought these to bring audio into another room of my home. I considered the CW262, but decided they were bigger than needed for my application. The tweeter is aimable, but not like the CW180R or CW262.

Pros: Nice PSB sound, included templates for wall cut-out.

Cons: This generation of PSB wall/ceiling speakers have grilles that you must VERY CAREFULLY push in. I've damaged grilles before and had to buy new ones from PSB. In this case, I had issues with the speaker during installation, but Crutchfield made it right and sent me another pair of grilles at no charge. PRO TIP - if the grille isn't going on, consider loosening and retightening the wall clamps.

Does the Job

Nothing fancy, but does the job. Easy to install and pairs nicely with my PSB towers/center.

Mounting Options

Overview: The CW26 from PSB Speakers is a pair of high-performance wall-mount speakers. The CustomSound CW Series of in-wall/in-ceiling speakers incorporate the same speaker arrays as found in PSB's highly acclaimed Platinum-series speakers for true audiophile performance.

Drivers: The CW26 speakers employ a 6-1/2" fiberglass-textured polypropylene woofer, which has a higher cone mass and enhanced motor strength for higher power handling. The rubber surround damps resonance and provides exceptional durability. The low-resonance 1" aluminum dome tweeter delivers exceptional clarity in the high frequencies. The tweeter has a pivoting mount, allowing it to be aimed towards the listening area for best response.

Frequency Adjustment Switches: Because in-wall speakers are surrounded by hard surfaces that reflect the sound output, it may be necessary to adjust the high and midrange frequencies. The CW26 has two rotary switches mounted on the front baffle that allow you to independently adjust the treble and midrange frequencies by +/- 2dB. The switches can be adjusted using a flat-head screwdriver.

Frames: The white ABS plastic frames extend approximately 3/4" beyond the grilles on the finished side. The frames also extend about 5/8" beyond the rough opening cutout. The speaker requires a 7-11/16" x 11-3/8" wall cutout for mounting the speaker.

Grilles: The speakers are equipped with flush-mount aluminum grilles for a clean and unobtrusive look. The grilles have hundreds of precisely-sized perforations to make them acoustically transparent. The grilles and frames are paintable to match any decor.

Mounting Options

Mounting Clamps: The CW26s have 6 toggle-style mounting clamps for installing the speakers in the wall or ceiling. When a Phillips-head screwdriver is first applied to the mounting screws, the clamps "toggle" out from a rest position (out of the way for easy insertion), turning 90 degrees and into a position to clamp firmly against the wall.

Pre-construction Bracket: For new construction, the optional CK-26 pre-construction bracket (760CK26, sold separately) is recommended. The bracket is designed to be a "hole-saver" to indicate where the speaker should be installed before the drywall goes up. In addition, an optional BBX-88 Performance Enclosure (available from the manufacturer) defines the optimal enclosure volume for the CustomSound series speakers, and mounts between two studs behind drywall.

Weather Resistant: The CW26 is weather resistant to enable installation in moist environments, such as bathrooms or indoor pool areas, or outdoors in porch ceilings or under eaves. The polypropylene cones with rubber surrounds, stainless steel fasteners, aluminum grilles and ABS plastic frames can withstand moisture, but the back of the speaker should be protected. The speakers should not be installed in an area that is totally exposed to the weather.
