About the PSB CW260
You're surrounded!
You're surrounded!
The PSB recipe of sonic excellence carries into their in-wall/in-ceiling speaker series with these high-performance CW260 surrounds. You'll hear the guns blazing and the pounding hoofbeats of the rescuing cavalry because these speakers have got you covered.
Caught in the crossfire
Each CW260 has two wide-range 2" drivers firing away from each other at a 90-degree angle, positioned on a specially contoured mounting plate. This design provides an expansive soundfield, perfect for larger home theaters or for making smaller spaces sound bigger. PSB included a bipole/dipole switch to help optimize the sound for different speaker-mounting locations — dipole mode usually sounds best for side-wall placement, while bipole mode can work well for back-wall placement. A 6-1/2" mid/woofer handles midrange and bass sounds. Just play your favorite movie and you'll find yourself instantly immersed. And with their paintable grilles, these speakers blend right into your walls so when the dust of your favorite film skirmish settles, all you'll see is the good guys riding off into the sunset.

Features
Overview: The CW260 from PSB Speakers is a high-performance wall-mount surround speaker. It is designed to be used as a surround speaker in a 5.1- or 7.1-channel system. It has dual switchable radiation patterns to provide a more diffuse soundfield than conventional speakers. The CustomSound CW Series of in-wall/in-ceiling speakers incorporate the same speaker arrays as found in PSB's highly acclaimed Platinum-series speakers for true audiophile performance.
Note: The CW260 is a single speaker.
Drivers: The CW260 speaker employs a 6-1/2" fiberglass-textured polypropylene woofer, which has a higher cone mass and enhanced motor strength for higher power handling. The rubber surround damps resonance and provides exceptional durability. The speaker has dual 2" wide-range cone drivers, cross-firing at 90 degrees to each other (one 45 degrees right and the other 45 degrees left). The drivers are mounted on a contoured mounting plate to obtain a smooth response, and to allow their energy to appropriately fire away from the listening area. The mounting plate can be removed and rotated 90 degrees if the speaker is mounted horizontally on the wall instead of vertically.
Soundfield Adjustment Switch: The CW260 has dual switchable radiation patterns. With the switch in the "Dipole" position, a distinct null is created straight out from the speaker. Sound will be very diffuse, and will reach the listener only after several bounces off of the room's walls. With the switch in the "Bipole" position, a very diffuse soundfield is created by sending the majority of the sound away from the listening position. The effect is not as great as in the "Dipole" position.
Treble Level Switch: Because in-wall speakers are surrounded by hard surfaces that reflect the sound output, it may be necessary to adjust the high frequencies. The speaker features a 2-way switch. The "Treble +" position boosts the high frequencies, and will tend to flatten the power response when used in the dipole setting. The "Treble -" position gives a more flat direct soundfield, and may better suit the bipole setting. It may be necessary to experiment with the switches to see which position best suits your personal taste.
Frames: The white ABS plastic frame extends approximately 3/4" beyond the grille on the finished side. The frame also extends about 5/8" beyond the rough opening cutout. The speaker requires a 8-1/2" x 14-3/8" wall cutout for mounting the speaker.
Grille: The speaker is equipped with a flush-mount aluminum grille for a clean and unobtrusive look. The grille has hundreds of precisely-sized perforations to make them acoustically transparent. The grille and frame are paintable to match any decor.
Mounting Options
Mounting Clamps: The CW260 has 6 toggle-style mounting clamps for installing the speaker in the wall. When a Phillips-head screwdriver is first applied to the mounting screws, the clamps "toggle" out from a rest position (out of the way for easy insertion), turning 90 degrees and into a position to clamp firmly against the wall.
Pre-construction Bracket: For new construction, the optional CK-66 pre-construction bracket is recommended (available from the manufacturer). The bracket is designed to be a "hole-saver" to indicate where the speaker should be installed before the drywall goes up. In addition, an optional BBX-88 Performance Enclosure (available from the manufacturer) defines the optimal enclosure volume for the CustomSound series speakers, and mounts between two studs behind drywall.
