Fantastic sounds will emanate from your walls

It sounds real enough, but don't worry. It's just your PSB CW28 speakers. PSB's bookshelf and floor-standing speakers have earned raves from reviewers for years, and you get the same high-performance, high-value design in their in-wall models.

It's not magic, it's science

PSB tested the CW28s in an anechoic chamber to fine-tune them for high performance and low resonance. Whether you're enjoying music or home theater you will appreciate PSB's commitment to high fideltity. An 8" woofer and 1" tweeter work in concert to deliver crisp dialog, captivating musical reproduction, and movie sound so real it will fool the dog. Its pivoting tweeter and dual adjustment switches let you customize the sound to your space and listening preferences. The CW28s work well as surround or main speakers, and are a close sonic match for PSB's other speakers. And a moisture-resistant design lets you use these speakers in damp areas like your laundry room or bath, as well as outdoors under eaves.

CW-28 In Wall Speakers

Written by: Jim A from San Diego, CA on September 23, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Reasonable price, high performance. Used to replace existing in-wall surround speakers that lacked dynamics. Install was typical for in-walls and not difficult. Sound was very good, excellent bass, particularly when drums were mixed towards the rear speakers. Exceptionally solid imaging behind the listening position when the sound was mixed that way. Movies that had surround effects were very realistic with sounds moving easily front to back and side to side. High and midrange contours helped to match the response of these speakers with my front speakers, getting a reasonably even sound all he way around the room.

Pros: Good price, good sound.

Mounting Options

Overview: The CW28 from PSB Speakers is a pair of high-performance wall-mount speakers. The CustomSound CW Series of in-wall/in-ceiling speakers incorporate the same speaker arrays as found in PSB's highly acclaimed Platinum-series speakers for true audiophile performance.

Drivers: The CW28 speakers employ an 8" fiberglass-textured polypropylene woofer, which has a higher cone mass and enhanced motor strength for higher power handling. The rubber surround damps resonance and provides exceptional durability. The low-resonance 1" aluminum dome tweeter delivers exceptional clarity in the high frequencies. The tweeter has a pivoting mount, allowing it to be aimed towards the listening area for best response.

Frequency Adjustment Switches: Because in-wall speakers are surrounded by hard surfaces that reflect the sound output, it may be necessary to adjust the high and midrange frequencies. The CW28 has two rotary switches mounted on the front baffle that allow you to independently adjust the treble and midrange frequencies by +/- 2dB. The switches can be adjusted using a flat-head screwdriver.

Frames: The white ABS plastic frames extend approximately 3/4" beyond the grilles on the finished side. The frames also extend about 5/8" beyond the rough opening cutout. The speaker requires a 9-1/4" x 13-5/16" wall cutout for mounting the speaker.

Grilles: The speakers are equipped with flush-mount aluminum grilles for a clean and unobtrusive look. The grilles have hundreds of precisely-sized perforations to make them acoustically transparent. The grilles and frames are paintable to match any decor.

Mounting Options

Mounting Clamps: The CW28s have 6 toggle-style mounting clamps for installing the speakers in the wall or ceiling. When a Phillips-head screwdriver is first applied to the mounting screws, the clamps "toggle" out from a rest position (out of the way for easy insertion), turning 90 degrees and into a position to clamp firmly against the wall.

Pre-construction Bracket: For new construction, the optional CK-28 pre-construction bracket (760CK28, sold separately) is recommended. The bracket is designed to be a "hole-saver" to indicate where the speaker should be installed before the drywall goes up. In addition, an optional BBX-88 Performance Enclosure (available from the manufacturer) defines the optimal enclosure volume for the CustomSound series speakers, and mounts between two studs behind drywall.

Weather Resistant: The CW28 is weather resistant to enable installation in moist environments, such as bathrooms or indoor pool areas, or outdoors in porch ceilings or under eaves. The polypropylene cones with rubber surrounds, stainless steel fasteners, aluminum grilles and ABS plastic frames can withstand moisture, but the back of the speaker should be protected. The speakers should not be installed in an area that is totally exposed to the weather.
