Kristen Schaub

Smooth-sounding bookshelf speakers

All Image speakers have heavy internal bracing and 1-1/8" thick MDF cabinets to ensure impressively solid, acoustically inert enclosures. The cabinets have a traditional look, but with slightly curved tops and fronts to soften it. This family of speakers also features attractive vinyl finishes, allowing the Image speakers to easily integrate into just about any décor.

Smooth-sounding bookshelf speakers

Experience dynamic, impactful sound with PSB's Image B6 bookshelf speakers. They provide impressive stereo sound in a 2.1 subwoofer/satellite system, or make excellent front-channel home theater speakers. The Image line borrows from driver technologies developed for PSB's sophisticated Imagine family, as well as their top-tier Synchrony speakers, giving you high-end sound at a budget-friendly price. The Image line also features a slightly different cabinet design than its predecessors, showcasing clean lines that won't clutter up your listening room.

Advanced drivers for clean, well-balanced sound

K2 Power crossover network

The tweeter uses a powerful neodymium magnet for crystal-clear highs.

The Image B6s each feature a 1" titanium dome tweeter that effortlessly dishes out smooth, uncolored highs. The long-excursion, high-output woofer uses the same proprietary ceramic-filled polypropylene cone as the Imagine line. The stiff, lightweight material helps it deliver midrange that's clean and balanced, with surprisingly deep bass. You'll also marvel at the detailed imaging, and wide soundstage produced by these compact speakers.

Driver Technology

Cone Design: The woofer cones are clay/ceramic filled polypropylene to optimize the combination of stiffness, internal damping, and low mass. The woofers' magnetically neutral polycarbonate basket contributes additional stiffness, and the bullet-shaped phase-plug enhances linearity at higher frequencies.

Tweeter: The 1" titanium dome, Ferrofluid cooled tweeters use a neodymium magnet structure to help extend the frequency response at both ends for effortless, airy top octaves and smooth, uncolored response.

Crossover Network: The crossover is a 2-way acoustical fourth order Linkwitz-Riley type with a 24 dB/octave slope. The tweeter and woofer are crossed over at 1,800 Hz.

Connections

Dual Binding Posts:The dual binding post input terminals are located on the lower rear of the speaker cabinet. The two sets of binding posts are shorted together by gold-plated jumpers. With the jumper removed the Image B6 can be bi-wired or bi-amplified. The binding posts will accept spade connectors, single banana plugs, pin connectors, and bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Customer Q&A

Q
Would this speaker be "too much" for a Yamaha VX475 AVR? We live in a condo and worry that a sub would be heard/felt in the unit below (as I hear the one above us). Looking for bookshelves that have enough bass so that we can do without sub. Had initially planned to get Alpha B1 but these look like they might be better suited (room is 25 x 15)

Sub to go with PSB image B6

Lattie, In my opinion, the Yamaha RX-V475 should pair very well with the PSB Image B6. I'm running mine from a Yamaha RX-497 stereo receiver rated at 75 watts into 2 channels, and I like the combination a lot. It's detailed, but still slightly warm, punchy and exhibits very little sibilance. I have really good bass extension without a subwoofer, but the space I'm in provides a lot of low end room gain and I don't listen to the popular bass heavy music we have so much of today. I suggest you try this combo in your space and see how you like it. If you need to add a subwoofer, the Yamaha YST-FSW150, also from Crutchfield, might be a good fit for you. It will give you some good complimentary bass extension for movies and music without disturbing other people. I'm using one in another system and I like it a lot. Hope this helps.

Lattie F In my opinion, there is more than enough bass in these speakers. They sound beautiful. The midrange and the highs are there as well. I auditioned these speakers and fell in love with the sound. I had them paired with a NAD 80 wpc integrated amp in a music only 2 channel system (no sub). I returned them because I thought I wanted hardwood veneer speakers. I have since discovered that to get the sound of these speakers in hardwood, I will have to spend at least twice as much. I am not familiar with the AVR that you want to use these with. Make sure that it has enough power to run them. My listening room is 11' X 19' and these speakers easily filled the space with wonderful sound and plenty of bass. I hope this helps you in your decision.

I'm very sure this speaker have enough bass, because I run this speaker with my Harman Karon AVR7300 but I have to turn treble up to +8 to balance it out. so I think this speaker 's good for your condo.

lattie, I have not received my speakers yet, they were on back order. I will let you know how the base sounds when I get them. Tim

I just bought these speakers in mid November and have liked them so far. I use them as part of a 5 channel system with PSB subwoofer, center channel and alpha a rear speakers. I haven't tried them without the subwoofer on so not able to really answer your question. I have a yamaha similar to the one you have and it seems to power the system well. I have owned psb speakers for a long team and really enjoy the sound they produce. We had a seven channel system in a media room with 2 subwoofers...and it was marvelous sound reproduction. Good luck

Lattie, I recently bought these speakers to replace my 91-year-old audiophile father's three-foot-tall speakers he built himself, so we could play his extensive LP (vinyl) collection. We have them up on the teak cabinet in our family room, and have been amazed at the sound quality. I'm a bass affecionado (am hypersensitive to high pitches, and always increase the bass on my amp), and have not been disappointed at all. In addition, the speaker cabinets are beautiful: black-stained wood grain, front curvature, and pleasing proportions. I am confident these speakers will satisfy your bass requirements, as well as help maintain good relations with your downstairs neighbors. (I am using them with a Yamaha A-S500 amp.)

Hi Lattie.I believe these speakers would make a great pairing for your Yamaha receiver. When I purchased these speakers, we too lived in a second-floor apartment and I worried about the same thing. However, i didn't want to go "too small" and sacrifice too much on the sound. These turned out to be just right, as these are so efficient and produced enough lower end/bass without the benefit of a sub. We used them primarily for movies and some for music. Never got any complaints from neighbors. We are in a house now and I have paired up a sub with them since I can now listen to my SACD's at a much louder volume. One thing that will really help is to put these speakers on a decent pair of stands that have the feet on the bottom that provide for minimal contact from the floor so the lower frequencies don't migrate into the structure itself. I got a nice pair from online for about $60.I continue to be very impressed with these speakers because they don't take up a lot of room and they sound amazing. I hope to one day get a larger pair of PSB's for my front speakers and move these to the surround positions.Good luck and I hope this helps.

This is a fantastic speaker! I also have a VX475, but not connected the PSB's. The combination should sound great, so long as you are not looking for deep bass. A room of 25 x 15 is pretty large for most bookshelves, but these are exceptional speakers. They are certainly worth trying.
