Praise for the PSB Imagine T from The Absolute Sound

"Tonally neutral and dynamically turbocharged, this short two-and-a-half-way tower offers a balance of audio virtues that is classic PSB. From the vivid midrange to the powerful midbass, nothing seems out of joint-and that goes for the T's seamless curved enclosure. Not as nuanced as the Synchrony but more than good enough to make you feel like a big spender."

PSB Imagine T drivers

The drivers are mounted flush with the smooth front baffles, for improved sound dispersion.

Precise driver design for natural sound

The Imagine T features a highly accurate 1" titanium dome tweeter that produces smooth, sparkling highs. The 5-1/4" woofers use proprietary ceramic-filled polypropylene cones, which makes them very stiff and light. The resulting midrange is clean and balanced, with tight bass response. A highly efficient motor structure with a unique compound magnet helps reduce audible distortion.

PSB imagine T cabinet

PSB's Imagine speakers feature acoustically inert enclosures, with seamless, unbroken surfaces that are beautiful to look at.

Solid, elegantly curved cabinets with a real-wood veneer finish

All Imagine speakers have smooth, 1-1/2" thick front baffles that blend almost seamlessly with the seven-layer laminated MDF side, top, and bottom panels. Plus, the heavy internal bracing ensures an impressively solid, acoustically inert enclosure. The top, side, and bottom panels are clad in real wood veneer that's hand selected for its beauty and quality.

Beautiful sound and beautiful speakers!

Written by: Bob from North Carolina on November 22, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for an attractive pair of tower speakers with great sound and decided on PSB. The reviews were all outstanding and they had been recommended by some of the sales staff at Crutchfield. I couldn't decide between the Imagine T and the Imagine T2 because these would be my main speakers and I didn't want to add a subwoofer. I finally decided to let my budget make the decision and opted for the Imagine T. I paired them with a Peachtree Audio Nova 65 and Sonos Connect for streaming. I had read this in previous reviews, but when the speakers arrived the first thing I noticed was the finish. We went for gloss black because we have contemporary decor and a gloss black baby grand piano.. Wow! These speakers look fantastic. The quality of the finish is like furniture and the shape fits in nicely with our decor. I've not found anything that looks so high-end in any of the typical retail audio stores. They don't look like boxes and definitely don't sound like them either. We listen to a lot of classical, classical crossover, jazz, and singer-songwriter. Occasionally, we'll amp it up with pop or even light rock. One of the things that is apparent with all formats is the transparency. There doesn't seem to be any cabinet resonance at all. It's just music, and it's beautiful music. Vocals are realistic and crisp and the same can be said for strings, horns and percussion. Mid-range and high clarity is excellent. My sister was dining with us one evening and co

Pros: No cabinet resonance, fantastic tonality and realism. Fit and finish is awesome.

Cons: Requires a sub woofer for deep bass.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm quite pleased with these speakers. On great recordings they sound rich, clear, clean and accurate over the whole frequency spectrum. When I compare them to my old DCM time windows, I find that they seem to lack a little crispness and sparkle. I'm driving these with a Marantz PM8005 which is adequate to achieve moderately loud sound levels in a 16x18 ft room. It, too, is reputed to impart a little warmth to the sound. The combination makes cymbal strikes and crisp piano notes seem a little soft-edged. Listening to Mistislav Rostropovitch and Rudolf Sorkin play Dvorak's cello concerto in D minor, for example, I was struck with how rich the sound of the cello was. It really conveyed the sense that the tone of this instrument may be among the most beautiful and musical of all instruments. This is a sense I never got with the Time Windows. On the other hand, Sorkin's piano playing seemed a little muffled, muted, soft: still lovely, but not at all crisp. This balance was not what I was used to hearing in this recording; but I imagine that it is a great deal closer to the intent of the DG recording engineers. The clocks' chimes in Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon sound hyperrealistic. And the rest of the track sounds terrific. In a live recording of Eagle's Hotel California, the slightest nuance of the guitar strings' vibration was captured and delivered accurately.

Pros: Accurate, natural - sounding, slightly warm in sound color, compact, beautiful black piano finish, great build quality, nice binding posts,

Cons: Not quite as crisp and sharp as some.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the PSB Imagine T without every hearing them. A bit of a gamble on my part but after some soul searching and research made the leap. I was told at Crutchfield to allow a burn-in time to reach optimal sound. I was pleasantly surprised how rich the sound was out of the box. I like many generes of music. I love the way the highs, mid range and bass each remain clear without any loss in clarity in complex pieces of music. I purchased as a family gift in our household, as I wanted quailty sound and my wife a a piece of complimentary furniture to our room. Luckily these speakers fit both aspirations perfectly. RE

Pros: The cabinet in dark cherry matched our hard wood floors and other pieces of furniture in our living room. The tower design look great next to our big screen TV. The sound reroduction is clear and concise.

Cons: You will need to high power amp to bring full spectrum to music fully. The cleaner your amp the better you will reach the sweet spot. A tad bit pricey but if you enjoy music it is a good investment in your ears.

Image vs. Imagine

Written by: Romarin from California on September 17, 2011

Have not heard the synchrony line of PSB speakers but the Imagine is so much better than the Image that the smallest and cheapest Imagine is better than the the top of the line Image. And the image isn't a bad speaker but I couldn't see throwing good money after bad and that's what you'd be doing buying an Image. As soon as you heard the Imagine you'd regret the day you wasted your money on the lesser speaker. Of course if the Image is all you can afford then you could do a whole lot worse for the money.

Driver Technology

Cone Design: The woofer cones are ceramic filled polypropylene and use rubber surrounds. The aluminum phase plug mechanically smoothes the response and acts as a heat sink for the voice coil, reducing power compression.

Tweeter: The 1" titanium, Ferrofluid cooled dome tweeter's light yet rigid diaphragm and over hung voice coil, combined with a computer optimized magnetic circuit produce an extended high frequency response that remains distortion free even at extreme volume levels. The front baffle is designed to eliminate mid and high frequency diffractions, maximizing three dimensional realism.

Crossover Network: The crossover is a 2-way acoustical fourth order Linkwitz-Riley type with a 24 dB/octave slope. Tight tolerances were used when choosing the crossover components; heavy multi-laminated iron cores are used for large value inductors, high gauge wire air core inductors are used for medium and small values, all the capacitors are low loss and film capacitors are used for the midrange and treble frequencies. The tweeter and top woofer are crossed over at 1,800 Hz, the bottom woofer plays only 800 Hz and below.

Enclosure Design

Cabinet: The cabinet is an integral part of speaker design and has a dramatic effect on the overall sound of a speaker. PSB's 7-layer laminated construction results in a solid, acoustically inert enclosure. The side and top panels are curved for added stiffness, with a high-gloss lacquer exterior. Internally the cabinet has two separate chambers, each with its own port on the rear panel.

Port Cover: There are two ports on the rear panel, one for each of the internal chambers. One port cover is included to seal a port (if necessary), thereby changing the bass tuning characteristics of the speaker to correct the interaction with the room. If needed, additional port covers can be obtained from PSB for a nominal fee.

Connections

Binding Posts: The dual binding post input terminals are located on the lower rear of the speaker cabinet. The two sets of binding posts are shorted together by a gold-plated jumper. With the jumper removed the Imagine T can be bi-wired or bi-amplified. The binding posts will accept spade connectors, single banana plugs, pin connectors, and bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Mounting Options

Leveling Feet: The Imagine T includes two sets of leveling feet; the rubber covered feet are used on a hard surface and add approximately 1/2" to the height of the speaker, the carpet spikes add approximately 1" to the height.
