PSB Imagine W3 On-Wall speaker

Precise engineering for better performance

The PSB design team thoroughly tests all of its designs at Canada's National Research Council to ensure outstanding, real-world performance. The W3 uses three of PSB's 1" titanium dome tweeters, one each for the left, right, and center channels for smooth, detailed highs free from harshness and grain.  Each tweeter is paired with a long-throw woofer (two woofers for the center channel) featuring exceptionally light and stiff clay/ceramic-filled polypropylene cones to provide clear midrange and tight, articulate bass. Each channel includes a passive radiator (two for the center), which gives the W3 even stronger bass performance than you might expect from a slim, on-wall speaker. You'll  enjoy a large, seamless soundstage with pinpoint imaging that allows you to easily follow the direction of gunfire in an action movie shootout or the sound of cheering crowds from off-screen on your favorite concert disc.

A sturdy, space-saving aluminum enclosure minimizes the speaker's external dimensions while maximizing internal volume for deeper sound. All of the W3's drivers are optimally mounted to a non-resonant MDF baffle for ideal sound dispersion, and concealed behind an acoustically transparent, cloth-covered metal grille for stylish good looks.

Complete your PSB home theater speaker system

Use the W3 for your front left, right, and center channels, then match it with the PSB W1 on-wall speakers or other PSB bookshelf, surround, and in-ceiling models to create a killer home theater system that's customized to your room. And be sure to add a PSB powered subwoofer for deep, hard-hitting bass.

Driver Technology

LCR Soundbar Speaker: The PSB Imagine W3 is an on-wall or table-top mount soundbar speaker which combines the front left & right channels, as well as the center channel all in one streamlined enclosure. This on-wall/table-top soundbar speaker produces a large soundstage with true-to-nature sound. Engineered with highly acclaimed audio excellence and research, the Imagine W3 soundbar speaker will deliver wide frequency and dynamic range, natural tonal balance and precise spatial imaging needed to make both music and movies lifelike and enjoyable.

Note: The PSB Imagine W3 performs best when complemented with a powered subwoofer (sold separately). Check out these powered subs from PSB.

Multiple Drivers: The PSB Imagine W3 houses three 1" ferrofluid-cooled titanium dome tweeters with a neodymium magnet, and four 4" clay/ceramic filled polypropylene woofers with rubber surround. The result is startlingly big and commanding sound with fine detail and emotion.

  • Three 1" Titanium Dome Tweeters: The three 1" titanium dome, ferrofluid-cooled tweeters use a neodymium magnet structure to help extend the frequency response at both ends for effortless, airy top octaves and smooth, uncolored response. The tweeters feature a specially engineered "phase plug" or shield that extends the high frequency response by dampening the tweeter's resonance and preventing phase cancellation in the top musical octave. The clear delicate sounds produced by this remarkable tweeter accurately reproduce all the musical detail contained in your favorite movies and music.
  • Four 4" Clay/Ceramic Filled Polypropylene Woofers: Four 4" woofer cones are clay/ceramic filled polypropylene to optimize the combination of stiffness, internal damping, and low mass. The woofer's magnetically neutral polycarbonate basket contributes additional stiffness, and the bullet-shaped phase-plug enhances linearity at higher frequencies.

Passive Radiators: Bass is enhanced by four 4" passive bass radiators (PBRs) that extend the bass reach of the speaker by doubling the output of the woofers at the lowest frequencies.

Crossover Network: One of the most critical aspects of speaker is the crossover network, where the final voicing and integration of all the elements of the design are determined. Even proximity to the wall behind the speaker has an effect that must be considered when fine tuning the crossover. PSB engineers designed the crossover frequency very low relative to the woofer size in order to provide the same sound no matter where the speaker is placed. The center channel is crossed over at 2300Hz, while the left & right channels are crossed over a 2000Hz.

Enclosure Design

Aluminum Cabinet: To gain maximum internal volume (necessary for good sound and deep bass response) a special aluminum cabinet was developed that minimizes external bulk and maximizes strength and internal volume. A non-resonant MDF baffle mounts the driver units in carefully optimized positions for an ideal dispersion of sound to the listener. Attention-to-detail is extreme with soft rubber trim rings that not only give sleek look, but also control dispersion of sound and add further damping of spurious vibrations.

Cloth Grille: An attractive cloth covered metal grille is transparent to sound while serving to integrate the speaker with your home décor.

Connections

Spring-Loaded Posts: The Imagine W3 soundbar loudspeaker is fitted with three pair of spring-loaded posts (Front Left/Front Right/Center) that accept bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single/dual).

Color-Coded: The spring post speaker terminals are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.

Mounting Options

Applications: The Imagine W3 is a single soundbar speaker that combines the front left & right channels, as well as center channel. The Imagine W3 can be used either individually or combined with other PSB In-room or In-wall/In-ceiling speakers (all sold separately) to create a customize home theater solution.

Wall-Mount: The Imagine W3 includes is a sturdy wall-mount bracket. At only 3" deep this speaker hugs the wall, integrating perfectly with popular flat-panel TVs. The W3 can be oriented horizontally above or below the center of your TV screen. The mounting bracket provides various keyhole slots to mount the speaker to your wall (mounting screws not supplied). The wall-mount bracket adds 0.25" to the depth of the speakers.

Table-Top Placement: The provided feet allow for the speaker to be placed on a tabletop below your flat-panel television. Depending on the way you install the feet, this will set the speaker at 90-degrees or 75-degrees (tilted back 15-degrees) from the table surface. To install the tabletop feet, attach the feet to the threaded inserts on the back of the speaker using the provided 1/4"-20 threaded bolts. The table-top feet add 0.1875" to the height and 0.5" to the depth of the speaker.

Q
How on earth do you hold the rubber spacers in back of the plate and screw 8 screws in the wall? Spent an hour on this tonight -- only to fail.

Allan, I would love to be able to answer your question, but I did not wall-mount the speaker. I put it on a table in front of the lcd tv. Sorry I am not more help. Maybe you should call the PSB offices in Canada to get help. They should be able to figure it out.

Hi Allan, Sorry your installation on this sound bar has been challenging. I installed one back in December so my memory is a bit foggy. I'm not sure I used spacers behind it, however. I think I wanted it to connect fully with the sheet rock so it would resonate with the space behind it and add some bass. I think that was useful, in retrospect. I mostly got the plate to mount solidly and level using 6 screw in Mollies. I then mounted the speaker onto the felted edge of the metal frame and leveled it for optimal listening using some plastic Widgets under the bottom edge. The hardest part was getting the speaker cable (I used Kimber 8TC...) to hold tight in the spring clips while I rotated the speaker onto the metal plate. I had cut the sheet rock so all the cables could run behind the wall. Three sets of heavy cables can be a bit tricky, unfortunately. Not sure if this is helpful to your situation but if you write back I'll gladly try to coach. Cheers! Paul
