Overview

Our take on the Hoya Alpha UV Filter

Protect your lens while filtering out the ultraviolet rays in outdoor photos that can contribute to haze. The Hoya Alpha UV filter's glass is precision-ground and polished, so you won't have surface imperfections that could distort your images. A rigid aluminum frame holds the filter steady in front of the lens.

This Hoya UV filter screws on easily and is an inexpensive and wise investment to protect your valuable lens.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had trouble screwing onto my lens. It wanted to cross-thread until I discovered the little wire that holds the glass in ring popped out. Will have to see if this lasts. I'm a little afraid to swap out for other filter. I expect better quality from Hoya. Too new to say anything about glass quality.

Pros: adequate for lens protection at low cost, especially if you don't expect to swap out filters.

Cons: poor quality

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Opened the plastic case only to find the filter in three pieces: ring, glass, wire. I put the glass in the ring and was able to snap the wire into the groove to hold the glass in place. First "do it yourself" filter I have ever received !!!

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Cheap

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Moderately priced filter purchased to protect my zoom lens while on vacation. Did a great job keeping Colorado river spray and red desert dust off of my lens. No noticeable impact to image quality.

Pros: Moderately priced 62mm filter, multicoated.

Features

Overview: Hoya Alpha-series multi-coated UV filters are designed specifically for digital cameras to absorb ultraviolet (UV) rays. Both surfaces of the optical glass are fully multi-coated to increase light transmission. Specialized UV glass absorbs almost the entire range of UV rays to give clear and sharper images with less haze.

Aluminum Filter Frame: Hoya Alpha-series filters are made with precision-milled aluminum frames. A rigid aluminum frame keeps the filter glass perfectly parallel to the plane of the image sensor for best results.

Lens Protection: UV filters are many times used to protect the lens from fingerprints, dirt, and scratches, and can be kept on the lens at all times.
